Coming upon a river a scent crosses Sesshomaru’s sensitive noise; human. The scent was headed directly towards him. The river rushed behind him and he waited, the wind rustled the leaves around him making them shiver with glee. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes when the faint sound of footsteps faltered then began again.
Soon a human emerged from the bushes across from Sesshomaru; a young women black hair wearing nothing, she was carrying a small bucket.
When the women caught sight of Sesshomaru she let out a very small oh, and froze her abnormal blue eyes going wide in surprise, maybe fear.
Sesshomaru stared at the women with icy indifference; he gave out signs that she was not welcome here, in his presence. Her scent was slightly different then most humans, but whatever the difference was it was being covered well. Maybe a disguised half demon, He thought, not likely but not impossible either. He also wondered why she was here, there weren't any villages for miles, this was all very suspicious, but the thought vanished when the women spoke.
"Can you help me? I think I'm lost," The women said softly.
He smelt no fear on this human and that annoyed him, she just stared at him expectantly after she had asked for his help.
Sesshomaru turned from the human and began to walk away, but was stopped when the women said something else.
"Did you not hear me, I asked for your help?" Her voice was low; confused.
Sesshomaru had stopped and thinking did this women not understand who he was, his back to her he continued walking again. The human should be happy he spared her life today.
"I'm talking to you Lord Sesshomaru!" The women shouted.
Sesshomaru was on the women in seconds; however, only to figure out a second later she wasn't in the spot she had been only seconds before. Sesshomaru standing looked at the women who now stood ten feet away from him. Sesshomaru guard went up this wasn't a human.
The women composed setting down her bucket; she looked at Sesshomaru who was now looking at her with his full attention. That's exactly what she wanted.
"Sesshomaru of the west, why wouldn't you help this lowly human?" she asks. A gust of wind blew past them and made the green leaves on the trees dance in delight and amusement.
Sesshomaru who hadn't spoken before this point finally spoke, "Why would this Sesshomaru help a lowly human?"
The women nodded, "as I thought." She mumbled.
A moment of silence passed through them, and the only the sounds of laughing leaves and the silently amused river that rushed.
"I have heard of your hatred towards humans," she paused. "I guess I should fix that."
Only silence fallowed as Sesshomaru only stared at the women trying to figure out who she was better yet what she was. She smelled human enough except for a lingering smell he couldn't figure out it wasn't demon, it smelled like plain nature itself.
The women bent over her bucket, and Sesshomaru watched her in interest, his guard was up but he was sure she couldn't hurt him.
Out of the bucket the women pulled a small yellow leaf that began to get lighter into it turned a piercing white as the women held it. Sesshomaru moved towards the women sensing the danger from the leaf, but found he couldn't move, he was frozen in place.
The women looked up from her leaf looking at Sesshomaru with a very serious expression, her eyes locking with his.
"How would you like being a human Sesshomaru?" she asked with a soft smile.
Sesshomaru didn't have long to figure out what that meant before his vision melted into inky darkness.
When Sesshomaru finally open his eyes his body was so cold it was numb and he was wet he found himself shivering.
When he only saw darkness he thought the witch had turned him blind, but soon his eyes adjusted to the darkness and he realized it was only night. The thought relived him just as much as it frightened. Relived he wasn't blind, and frightened as he wondered what exactly had she done to him.
Sesshomaru was flat on his back beside the river he had stood in front of just before the witch had showed up. He stared up into the lightening sky, the starry night being replaced by a pink dawn. He sat up head swimming; a tumble of dark hair fell over his shoulder. He stared at it; with trembling fingers he touched it with his clawless fingers.
Getting to his feet as fast as he could, he only to fell over again when a wave of nausea hit him. Instead he rolled over onto his belly, and crawled to the edge of the river bank and stared at his reflection the rising sun did give him enough light to see the deep chestnut colored eyes and the jet black hair that framed the completely different face.
Sesshomaru stared back at himself, and for the first time in a long time he was truly horrified at what he saw, and a loss of word of what to say.
His markings,
Gone
His golden eyes,
Gone
His silver hair,
Gone
His Claws,
Gone
Bawl filled Sesshomaru's mouth and he threw up right over the reflection of himself. He couldn't believe this, how weak he felt, Lord Sesshomaru of the western lands was human.
Felling weaker than he had ever been before he stood slowly he stood on wobbly legs that shook like a leaf. Looking down at himself his cloths were still the same, yet he felt small in them like they were not his.
Sesshomaru staggered in some direction he had to find the wench that had done this to him. Leaning heavily against a tree Sesshomaru tired to catch his breath, a gust of wind made him shiver, and made him lose his balance. His black hair whipped around him blinding his vision for a moment, he turned quickly peering into the shadowy wood around him, and he thought he heard a laugh. Tucking the long strains behind him he continued forward his body weak and anything but graceful.
A growl erupted from behind him he turned to find a weak demon, whatever kind it may be, the demon would have been taken care of quickly if he were still a demon, but he was human. He did the only thing he could.
He ran
As fast as his weak human body would allow, he ran blindly through the forest the chilly morning air biting threw his thin clothing as he ran but he barely noticed. The fear that he had never felt before had entered him and took control. He could hear the demon behind him; he could almost feel its teeth nibbling at heels.
Then the worst thing that could possible happened while you’re running from something happened, he fell. Tripping over a root that seemed to come from air, he smacked hard into the ground. The sound of an arrow being released a quick zipping noise and a loud howl as the demon behind him was turned into dust.
Sesshomaru lifted his head to find a familiar girl standing only a few feet away from him holding shaking bow. She wore a filthy school uniform the tie was missing so was one of the sleeves. Around her waist was Inuyasha's red fire rat.
She was breathing heavily staring at Sesshomaru with a soft frown on her shoulder sat a small fox demon also staring at him.
Sesshomaru recognized the girl right away; he quickly got to his feet, a little pride still left in him.
Kagome stared at Sesshomaru she was surprised to see him; she hadn’t seen another human in days.
She had no idea who he was, yet she had recognized him, she had no clue that he was. When she had seen him burst through forest into the clearing were her and Shippo were resting falling flat on his face. Kagome hadn't wasted anytime scooping up her bow and shooting the arrow at the easy target chasing the unknown man. Almost a month of fighting every demon Naraku had sent after them had taught her and Shippo that the quickest reaction saves your life.
Back to the real world she made her way over to Sesshomaru as Shippo jumped from her shoulder. She walked towards him wanting to ask were his village was for she could stock up on supplies.
Sesshomaru winced. "You recognized me?" he asks threw clinched teeth trying to ignore the pain coming from his ankle.
Kagome didn't answer; she wondered was she supposed to recognize him.
"Is anything coming Shippo?" she asked the small demon as she passed him.
"No"
"Can you go get some water and bring my backpack closer?" Shippo left with one more glance at Sesshomaru.
"Is Inuyasha here?" Sesshomaru asked threw half lidded eyes. He didn’t catch the surprised look Kagome gave him
“What did you say?” Kagome asks frowning at the man.
“Inuyasha, is he around?” Sesshomaru asked again.
“No,” Kagome said slowly. “Inuyasha hasn’t been around for months.” Kagome says answering half truthfully. Inuyasha hadn’t been around because he had defeated Naraku but sacrificed himself along with her other comrades. After that the well had closed, and demons for some reason started to attack her relentlessly. She wasn’t safe and constantly on the run. Anyone around would also be relentlessly attacked, Shippo was also attacked by the demons none stop. Kagome had changed in the few months on the run, forced to become a hermit.
“I do not understand.” Sesshomaru says, annoyed with the girl’s mysterious behavior.
"He isn’t around" She roughly pulled up the pants leg of his hurt ankle causing him to wince. “Who are you?”
Sesshomaru remembered than, that he had a face of another, he thought of how he could make her believe.
“I’m Sesshomaru.” Sesshomaru answered.
A moment of silence fallowed which included; Shippo returning with water, and Kagome staring at Sesshomaru with the blankest look she could muster.
Then she laughed long and hard, one of the best laughs she had had in months. She laughed so hard her stomach began to ach.
Sesshomaru watched her laugh at him, his glare turning icy. “You can stop laughing now.”
Kagome stopped laughing once she noticed the serious look on Sesshomaru’s face.
“You’re serious?” She asked and glanced at Shippo who shrugged.
“Yes,” He said.
Kagome looked at the dark haired, chestnut colored eyed man, this looked nothing like the Sesshomaru she remembered. Even facial features were different, but somehow Kagome did make a resemblance.
“Prove it,” the young miko says crossing her arms.
Annoyed Sesshomaru thought of a way to prove to this girl that he was Sesshomaru. He thought about not telling her anything and moving on. It didn’t really matter if she believed him; however, he was in a weakened state right now and who else he could go to that wouldn’t use the information against him.
“We met for the first time in the tomb of my father, which was located in the eye of my brother. You released my brother’s sword resulting in the lost of my arm.” He said blankly.
Kagome wasn’t impressed; this didn’t mean he was Sesshomaru.
“How did you become like this?” Kagome asked.
“A witch did this,” Sesshomaru says.
“I believe you.” Kagome lies. She didn’t believe him; it didn’t really matter if she did.
“Shippo, start packing we’re moving out.” Kagome says. Starting to pack up, she ignored Sesshomaru, she had bigger problems to worry about.
Kagome walked through the forest keeping her senses sharp for things around her. She could feel Shippo some place scoping out as they walked. This was their life now, always on guard, always ready to fight. Kagome turned a little to look at the man fallowing them he had for hours now. It didn’t bother Kagome, as long as he stayed out of their way. The man was weak and slow, and Kagome was sure soon he would take a rest, and they would move on. He was panting heavily and limping from his sprained ankle. Kagome smiled, it was no way this was Sesshomaru. The blank look on his face however gave no sign that he would give up.
Sesshomaru glared at the back of the miko’s head annoyed that she dare ignore him in such a way. He was tired and he ached all over, he silently cursed all humans. He had no idea how to handle so many emotions. Why did they have to be so weak?
Kagome turned quickly facing Sesshomaru, and Shippo appeared from the trees growling. Sesshomaru was about to speak when he realized they weren’t looking at him. He turned slowly to face the demon behind him.
The tall, silver haired demon looked at them coldly.
“Do you still think your Sesshomaru?” Kagome asked amused at his shocked expression.
