Chapter One: I Quit!

Kagome Higurashi woke up to the smell of fresh cinnamon buns cooking in the kitchen of her mother’s home, and smiled to herself. She got up and stretched and wondered why she had fallen asleep on her mother’s couch instead of going home to her 3 bedroom apartment downtown. When she remembered why she had come here in the first place she cursed her stupid boss at the Riva Del Fiume, the restaurant where she worked as head chef. “Idiot.”, she mumbled to herself as she headed to the kitchen to greet her mother.

“Morning mom, something smells super yummy.”

”It’s your favorite dear, home made cinnamon buns. How are you feeling? You were highly upset last night about work.”

”Yea, I’m alright now, I just wish that stupid baka would pull the stick out from his ass.”

”Kagome!”

”Sorry, he is just so…so...so stubborn! Everything has to be his way or it’s not good enough. I’m one of the best chefs in Japan and he can’t even let me do things my way! He just makes me so mad.”

”I know dear, but maybe things just aren’t meant to be. Maybe you should find somewhere else to cook.”

”Maybe….” Kagome said and then sighed.

Kagome stared out of the kitchen window from the kitchen table and remembered how she had come to work at the Riva Del Fiume, the place that meant River Side in Italian.

*Flashback*

Come on Kagome! Let’s go, or we are going to be late!” Sango said, Kagome’s long time friend.

“So what? Why is this such a big deal to you anyway?” Kagome said back, annoyed.

”Hey, I’m trying to get you a job here at one of the best restaurants in town! You could be a little more grateful!”

”You? I thought Miroku was friends with this guy?”

”Well he is, but I didn’t have to tell you that he told me about the job opening.”

”I guess…” Kagome said, and tried to be little more cheerful.

Kagome and Sango where almost to the restaurant, when Kagome bumped into something or someone while she was walking. When she looked up, she noticed she had run into a man in a black suit. “Sorry, I didn’t mean…”
”Watch where you’re going!” the man in the suit said, as he rushed by Kagome.

Kagome stared on at the man in a daze, when Sango came up to her and had asked her if she was okay, she snapped out of it.

”What a jerk.” Sango said.

“Yea, well let’s get going.” Kagome said back.

Kagome and Sango walked in silence, but Kagome’s mind went back to the man she had run into. ‘He was so handsome. I’ve never seen anyone like him before.’ Kagome remembered what the man had looked like, and was getting hot just thinking about it. ‘Those eyes, they were like the sun or melted gold, and that hair, so silver and shiny I could just run my hands thr….’

”Kagome we’re here!” Sango said looking at her friend.

Kagome snapped out of what she was thinking and looked up at the sign above them.

”Yea, I guess we are.”

As Kagome and Sango entered the Riva Del Fiume Kagome took in the scenery around her. The place was modern and the main color scheme was black and white, with hints of silver and red. There were also some exotic plants around as well. She noticed that the restaurant was set up like almost any other restaurant in town, with some booths and tables and chairs. The lighting in the place was good too, not to bright, just right to set the mood.

”Hey Sango, what’s up?”

Kagome turned in the direction of the unfamiliar voice and was shocked at what she saw.
”Hey Inuyasha, nothing too much. How’s business been?”
”Ah, it’s been good I guess. A little hectic since I got rid of that ridiculous chef.” Inuyasha said, getting a little irritated that he hadn’t found a new one yet.

”Yea I heard from Miroku. That’s actually why I’m here.” Sango said looking in Kagome’s direction.

”What you take up cooking or something Sango, because I’ve tried your cooking before and if you haven’t practiced then sorry but I ain’t gonna hire you?”

”Haha, you’re funny. No, I actually brought a friend with me, and she’s very good at what she does.” Sango said sticking out her tongue at her boyfriend’s long time friend.

Kagome stared in amazement. She swore she was looking at the man she bumped into not long ago, but it couldn’t be him. They had most of the same features, the eyes, the hair, though this Inuyasha’s was a little rougher and not as long and was more white than silver, she swore they had to be brothers or at least related. She knew they were both demons, being from a long line of priestesses, she could sense it. Inuyasha was half demon though, while the other man had been full.

”Kagome, are you listening?” Sango said, trying to get her friend’s attention.

”What?” Kagome said snapping out of her daze.

”You have been in a daze ever since you bumped into that guy? What are you thinking about?” Sango looked at her friend with a smile.

Kagome blushed, but said nothing in response.

”Anyway…Kagome, this is Inuyasha, the guy I told you about. He owns this place, and is looking for a new cook.”

”Yes, I remember.” Kagome looked in the direction of Inuyasha and greeted him with a smile. “Hello Inuyasha, I’m Kagome; it’s nice to meet you.”

”Likewise. So Sango here says you can cook. If you would come to the kitchen with me, I’d like to see what you can do.” Inuyasha said, leading both Sango and Kagome to the back of the restaurant where the kitchen was located.

Inuyasha had told Kagome to go ahead and make anything she wanted, as long as it was an Italian dish, and she could use any of the ingredients found in his kitchen, and she had to make a dessert as well.

Kagome looked around a little and found all the ingredients she needed. She was going to make fruta mare ensalata for the main course and was going to make tiramisu for the dessert, but she was going to but a little twist on that. With all the ingredients in hand, she got to work.

When Kagome was finished she brought both dishes out to Inuyasha and Sango, and sat them down.

”I hope you like it.” Kagome smiled, and knew they would.

Inuyasha looked up at her and grabbed a fork and took a bite. Sango did the same.

”Mmmm, so delicious Kagome! I could eat this all the time!” Sango said as she took another bite.

Kagome smiled. “Thanks Sango, I’m glad you liked it.”

Kagome then looked at Inuyasha and waited for a response.

”Sango is right, this is good.” Inuyasha said.

After they were done with the main course, Inuyasha and Sango dug into dessert, and both loved it. Inuyasha had noticed the twist in the tiramisu, and thought it was a great idea.

”I think I found myself a new cook.” Inuyasha smiled, glad that he finally had found a new cook.

Kagome smiled.

*End Flashback*

Kagome smiled as she remembered. She had been hired on the spot, and had been hired that night. Inuyasha had even put her tiramisu on the menu and had said that it was the chef’s twist on the traditional tiramisu, and Kagome had received countless compliments on it. People had told her that they had tried tiramisu from all over the world, and had never had anything quite as good as hers.

”Kagome dear, the buns are ready. Are you going to have one before you leave?” Kagome’s mom said.

Kagome looked up at her mom, and smiled. She loved her mom’s cooking.

”Yea mom, but I think I’m gonna take it with me. I need to go back to my apartment and get ready for work.”

”Okay dear. Take care, and try not to let Inuyasha bother you too much.”

”I’ll try! Love you!” Kagome said as she grabbed a cinnamon bun and headed for the door.

”Love you too dear!” Kagome’s mother shouted as Kagome headed out the door.

Kagome was almost home, when she saw a little girl staring into a window of a store.

”But Sesshomaru-sama, why can’t I have one?” the little girl whined.

”I already told you Rin, we have to get going. We’ll come back some other time.” The man said to the little girl.

”Awe fine.” The little girl Rin said.

Kagome stared on as she saw the man who had taken the little girl by the hand and started walking to a near by car.

’That’s the same guy that I ran into a few months ago.’ Kagome thought.

She watched as the both got into the car and drove away.

’I guess he’s married, that must be his daughter, but I didn’t sense her being a demon, not even a half demon. Hmmm…..oh well.' Kagome thought and started walking again. When she got home she took a shower, did her hair in an up-do style with chopsticks. She examined herself in her bedroom mirror and when she was satisfied with her appearance she left for work.

”Where the hell is that woman!?” Inuyasha yelled at himself, and was growing angrier by the minute. The restaurant was busy as hell today, and they were already running behind.
Inuyasha heard the back door to the kitchen swing open and was relieved when he saw Kagome walk in.

”Where the heck have you been?!” Inuyasha yelled in Kagome’s direction.

Kagome looked in the direction of Inuyasha with an annoyed look on her face.

”Why the heck does it matter!? I’m not late or anything!” Kagome yelled back.

”Whatever! Just get to cooking! We are already behind! I have better things to do than to stand here and argue with you!”

Kagome was fuming. How dare he talk to her like that. She had done nothing wrong, she was early as far as she knew. Kagome stormed out of the kitchen and into the main dining area. She was about to walk out the door, when Inuyasha came out the kitchen door and started yelling at her.

”Where the hell are you going!? Get back here and do your job!?” Inuyasha screamed.

“Find yourself a new cook Inuyasha, because I quit!” Kagome screamed untying her apron and throwing it on the ground before heading out the door.

Inuyasha looked on dumbfounded. “Ah, to hell with it!” he screamed before returning to the kitchen.

“Sesshomaru-sama, why does Uncle Inuyasha look so mad?” The little girl Rin said sitting at a booth across from her adopted father.

”I think he’s mad because his head cook just quit.” Sesshomaru said, looking at the door the women who had been the cook just left out of.

”Oh.” Rin said and went back to her food.

Sesshomaru looked on and was amused at the scene he had just saw take place.

’That was the women who ran into me a few months ago.’ He thought to himself. ‘She seems to have some fire in her, and she cooks. Hmm…’ He wondered to himself.

”Maybe….” He said to himself.

”What was that Sesshomaru-sama?” Rin looked up and asked when she heard Sesshomaru speak.

Sesshomaru looked down at the girl. “Nothing Rin, make sure you finish your food, or you don’t get any dessert okay.”

”Okay.” Rin said once again returning to her food.

Sesshomaru smiled to himself. He had some plans for that woman, but first he had to find out her name.
