Chapter 1 (beta)

Kagome stared out of her bedroom window without focusing on anything in particular. Her entire being was focused on her thoughts instead. Those were centered on one being with silver hair and irresistible dog-ears.

She was hoping that Inuyahsa had not gone back to his time without her.

She sighed only to gasp when she was spooked out of her ponderings. Inu Yasha bounded into her room rather loudly.

“ Inuyasha, I thought that you’d…” Her words were cut off when he silenced her by placing his finger over her lips lightly.

“ Kagome, you thought I’d leave you here?" he question curiously and cockily. “You ought to know better."

He smirked before boosting her to his shoulder and jumping out of the window rather than going through the house. He was ready to go back to the feudal era and didn’t intend to waste any time with stairs or doors.

After going through the portal between times, they found their way to the campsite.

Sango and Shippo were sitting on a log, looking comfortable and content. There was one member missing from their party.

“Where is Miroku?” asked Inyasha.

“He went to looks for some fruits or berries so that we can eat. We were still a bit hungry," Shippo said while he enthusiastically greeted Kagome. When he finished expressing how much he missed her loudly and physically, he returned to the log and reclined against the side that Kirara wasn’t taking up.

The neko was sprawled along the top of the log and looked to the world to be in la la land, although all knew that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Inuyasha grabbed a staff that was used as a spear.

“I’ll get some fish from the creek that we passed on the way.” His tone was confident as he turned and took off, using the trees to gain momentum.

The last statement they heard from him before he was out of view had them laughing and really reflected his over confident nature. It made him seem boyish. "I’ll bring back the biggest fish that you all have ever seen.”

“Okay," replied his friends before dissolving into a fit of giggles. They did love it when he acted carefree and allowed them the same privilage.

Kagome sat down next to Sango and Shippo.

Inuyasha strolled to the edge of the stream, holding his spear high. He waited patiently still before jabbing into the running water. He reacted with shocked surprise when a multicolored Hydra slithered its way gracefully onto the bank, moving toward him.

“ Hey! You with the spear! Be careful! You almost got me”.

Inuyasha stared in disbelief. That fish was talking to him. And, it wasn’t just talking, it was grouching him out for nearly killing it.

“Have you never seen a talking Hydra before?” The fish exploded at him as if talking fish were a part of his everyday life. Well, it may be a part of the fish’s everyday life, but it was most definitely not a part of Inu Yasha’s unless if those fish happened to be demonic. This fish did not have the slightest bit of a demonic aura.

“No,” said Inuyasha, looking at the incredible species. “At least, not a regular talking fish. I’ve met plenty of demonic sea life before.” He gaped in wonder until he voiced his first thought out loud. “You don’t look like any Hydra I’ve ever seen.” That was it. Nothing more than that statement. The fish looked oddly at the hanyou in front of him. To the fish, he definitely didn’t seem to the brightest star out there, but as long as he quit trying to stick a stick in him, who was he to fuss?

“I’m a special Hydra.” The fish decided to brag just a bit and inform the dog-eared creature that he wasn’t just any old ordinary fish.

“Once, long ago, I ruled over my kingdom with stern force. I was a great king.”

“Well, one day I made a local witch mad, and she turned me into this.” The fish appeared to reflect on that time in his life.

“That was over a hundred years.” That statement held what had to be a thousand tears in it when uttered by that fish. He seemed to snap out of his melancholy mood and told him something that he didn’t expect to hear from the fish. “I know how to break the spell, but nobody has ever been to this section of the stream to search me out. You have been the first. I didn’t wish to wander toward the villages because then my people would know what had become of me. That did not sit well with my conscience. I can grant you one wish, and that should break this spell.”

Inuyasha still could not believe that he was talking to a Hydra. When what the fish had just said finally registered, his eyes grew large. He could have a wish granted.

“I will grant any wish you want”.

“Any wish?”

“Yes any wish.”.

Inuyasha did not take long to make up his mind. He was surprised that he was going to use a wish to finally do this, but he just couldn’t go any longer with this quandary that he was in.

"Okay. I wish I had the courage to tell a friend of my how much I love her.”

“Your wish is granted,” stated the hydra rather bored before slithering back in the water.

After a few minutes of staring where the hydra had disappeared, Inuyasha held back his spear once more jabbing it into a pretty big fish.

When he got back to the campsite, he noticed Kagome sitting close to the fire. This was it. It was now or never.

He walked over and sat down.

Once they had all finished eating and completed the chores that they were required to do afterward, he asked Kagome in his normal churlish way if she would like to take a walk by the creek.

“I’d love to, Inuyasha.” She stood and sped over to him with eager exuberance.

He took her hand, trying to be nonchalant about it.

The rippling water was so tranquil that it captured their attention, as they walked quietly together, neither recognizing their fingers intwining.

He embraced her in his arms and looked into her eyes.

“Kagome, I have something to tell you,” he began timidly.

“I love you.” The words were blurted out and now couldn’t be called back no matter what he may wish now.

She felt her heart beating erratically after those words.

“I love you too.” The words stole Inuyasha’s breath from his chest. He longed for them, and now, he possessed them.
