Looking up as the door to her small, plain white room opened,
the raven haired girl smiled. She watched expectantly as the elderly woman’s
head popped in just past the frame. The warmth in her voice made the young girl
miss what had been said. Blinking as the words spoken sunk in, she shook her
head slightly then she went back to staring out the Plexiglas window.

“Did you hear me? You have a visitor, Kagome-chan.” The nurse
repeated, a frown tugging slightly at the corner of her lips. Letting out a
small sigh she turned to the man waiting patiently to be called over. “You can
go in. Visiting hours are over soon, so please keep it short. Should you want
to leave, simply press the buzzer near the door.
Eying the man, she added, “I must warn you though, she isn’t going to speak
today.” Stepping aside she shivered as the man walked passed her into the room.
What an eerie feeling.’ She thought
before closing the door and locking it behind her.

Looking at the being before him, he had to quell the feeling of
disgust. This was not the woman he remembered at all. The once proud, vibrant
girl who had been so full of life was gone. Replaced by something he could not
quite place a finger on. She was living but was not alive, her fire had long
since burned out it seemed. Clearing his throat he watched as she turned her
eyes from the window to him. The look of indifference schooled into his
features faltered slightly before returning to normal. The bright blue eyes
that had once been were now sunk in causing the dark circles around them to
stand out and making the dull grey hue seem all the more lifeless. Her face was
sickly thin, looking as though someone had taken a bleached hide and stretched
it across a human skull. Pulling himself out of his thoughts on how she came to
be like this, he moved then quickly sat down on the end of the bed next to her.
“Higurashi, Kagome.”

She turned away from him and looked back out the window as his
rich baritone voice filled the room. Something about his voice seemed familiar
to her, pulling at her memories. Images of a red clad half demon with white
triangular ears perched on top of his head, of times spent with her second
family in a different time, danced within her head. Things that everyone had
said hadn’t happened. Bringing her hands to her head she began to shake it
violently to rid herself of the vile images that had cost her, her life. A
strong hand on her shoulder caused her to scream and jump back, knocking the
chair she had been sitting on over. Looking up to the man she continued to
scream as she watched his long black hair turn silver and his hazel eyes
dissolve into a golden honey.

He released his hold on her before the door burst open. Turning
he watched as the elderly nurse who had shown him in run over to the screaming
girl, followed by two larger males. He could hear the nurse whispering soothing
words to her as one would to a child.

Turning her eyes from Kagome, the nurse glared at the stranger
still standing in the room as if nothing were happening. “Get out of here.”
When he didn’t make a move to leave she stood upright, one hand still on the
girl. “I said get out of here.” Nodding with satisfaction as the man made his
way to the door she turned her full attention back to her patient. She didn’t
even look back as she called over her shoulder to the two men standing in the
room. “I think we’re going to have to strap her down.”

Strolling up to the desk near the elevators, he looked to the
young nurse who was staring at the computer screen in front of her. “You will
get me copies of the Higurashi file.” He watched as the lady looked up, class=GramE>then
cut her off as she opened her mouth to speak. “You will
get me the files now. Or I will cease funding this hospital.” He smiled
inwardly as her eyes widened and she scurried off to get the documents.

Yuko stepped out of Kagome’s room and sighed heavily. She hated
having to strap the young woman down; it broke her heart every time she had to
do it. The girl rarely opened up as it was and after incidents where this had
to happen it took weeks to even get her to speak a single word. The nurse
didn’t blame her though; she had lost everything at such a young age. Hearing
the cause of this problem from down the hall she squared her shoulders. Making
her way to him she poked him in the chest hard with her index finger as he
turned to look at her. “I don’t care who you are Mister. You have no right
barging in here and upsetting her like that!” Her anger flared even more as he
turned away from her and took the folder that had been placed on the desk then
walked out. “If he thinks I’m going to let him back in to see her again…” She
let her words trail off as her boss walked up next to her, gave her a stern
look then shook his head. ‘Fine, if I
can’t keep him from coming. I’ll make sure he doesn’t want to come back.

She thought as she jerked away from her employer and stomped off.
