Illusions
. With Naraku defeated and being back in her time permanently, things are looking up for Kagome Higurashi. Then she falls in love. Again. Or so she thinks. IY/YYH crossover
This is the first of a series of one shots that I am going to be writing based on a mood and some creative juices that hit me randomly. None of these stories will have anything to do with each other and one can merely guess the mood of the story from the title and summary. If I get enough requests though, I may make in into a story if I feel enough plot can be derived from it. That being said, enjoy.
Kagome Higurashi was an average adult who lived at an average shrine. She had an average mom, grandpa and little brother. She had an average job and an average social life. At least, that’s what the rest of the world saw.
Kagome Higurashi was not, in fact, an average adult who lived at an average shrine with her family. Kagome Higurashi had lived through a tale so frightening and wonderful, even she was surprised she hadn’t had an absurd dream caused by the ‘incense’ her grandfather burned from time to time. From feudal lords and monsters to allies and love. So many friends, so many people. So many battles fought and so many losses. A second family had lived in Kagome’s fantasy world. Now they were all lost to her.
Kagome was strong though, when the well stopped working for her, she cried. Actually, she had wailed until the combined efforts of her mom and brother had finally gotten her in the house. Four years have passed since the permanent closing of the well and four years had passed since the permanent death of Kagome’s childhood, along with her childhood dreams.
A sigh escaped from Kagome’s mouth. She had been able to navigate the dense forests of Feudal Japan, but she had been having troubles navigating the roads around the modern Era, her own home! Well, that was to be expected since when you were being chased by a ruthless monster one had to know their way around the terrain, no matter what. Kagome sighed again, knowing she had to stop this line of thought before thoughts of him could make her cry in public. Again.
Unfortunately for Kagome, those thoughts wanted to come forth and make her miserable. His face suddenly appeared in her mind, with those smoldering amber orbs called eyes, beautiful white hair and adorable little triangular and fuzzy ears on top of his head, constantly flickering and moving, making him cute even when he wanted to look angry. Inuyasha, her badass with a heart of gold, that is what she referred to him as. Or used to, anyways.
The day of the win came into her mind.
Naraku was little more than a pile of ashes thanks to Kagome with Kikyo’s help. Kikyo’s body finally gave out on her after the explosive use of both of their powers. Inuyasha did not seem to mind though, he ran up to Kagome and hugged her, laughing and spinning her in the air. Sango and Miroku looked at each other and laughed as they watched the spectacle. No one had really been hurt, the worst damage that occurred was a few stings from poisonous insects and cuts and bruises. Truly, the Kami themselves must have been helping with this fight.
Kagome reluctantly released herself from Inuyasha’s strong arms and picked up the almost whole Shikon Jewel. Kouga had given the group his shards earlier in the week, so all that had to be done now was combine the meager few shards in Kagome’s possession with the almost complete one that had once been in Naraku’s clutches. Some weeks ago, Naraku had taken out Kohaku, much to Sango’s horror, but all knew it would have happened sooner or later.
A little bit of apprehensiveness began to cloud her vision as Kagome began to fuse the broken jewel together. A brilliant aura of pink began to cover the clearing and everyone watched in awe as the jewel floated in air above Kagome’s hand. Suddenly, it flew into her chest and disappeared, not even leaving a mark. For the first time in years, Kagome felt whole. Inuyasha ran foward and brought his face in and kissed her. Well, he tried to anyways, but his lips went right through her. He grabbed at her frantically trying to keep her with him, but she slowly faded from sight. Her fading tears didn’t even reach the ground.
Kagome wiped the tear from her eye. Dammit! She had to stop thinking about that day, so many long years ago. The jewel was kinda nice to have in her body though, because as everyone in her family grew older, she seemed to stay the same. Even so, she hated the damned thing. Why had it taken her away from the people that she had grown to love so much? Why had it taken her away from her family? Her adopted son, her sister, her lecherous brother, the wonderful and guiding grandmother Kaede and of course Inuyasha. Of all of those people Inuyasha was the one she missed the most. Some days it was hard to get up knowing that she would never see his face again. She had to concentrate on things other than the past, such as where was this shop that Kazuma wanted to meet her at?
Kagome had been at work for most of the day, small chores around the shrine and then some practicing her archery. Using her more reformed powers that she got back from the portion of her soul that Kikyo had been using, Kagome had begun to sense demons, even in her era. Many were much more powerful than a lot of the ones that she had encountered in the feudal era, but none had come near her so far. It seems that the Shikon Jewel does not warrant or attract as much attention in this era.
Kagome had made several dummies and painted targets on all of the best areas for a kill. She had shot several arrows on one target when she heard someone run up the stairs. A rather tall man with the weirdest hair cut that Kagome had ever seen ran up to her.
“What the hell was that!” The orange haired man yelled rather loudly as Kagome stared at him. “You shot something! It was all pink and it was really strong spirit energy!” He went on.
“Well, since I can see that you are just a human I think I’ll tell you. There is really no point in denying what I am anyway since you have seen my arrows.” Kagome began as the man nodded dumbly at her. “I am a miko, a person with strong holy and purifying powers. I used to use my powers to kill evil Youkai, but I have not come across the need to recently.”
“Wow, thats pretty cool. Oh, eheh, silly me. My name is Kazuma. Kazuma Kuwabara. Nice to meet you pretty lady!”
Kagome giggled at the man, she didnt know if she should be flattered by his remark or be repulsed. He didnt seem to be hitting on her and he seemed sweetso she decided to be flattered. “My name is Kagome. It is nice to meet you, Kazuma.”
Since that day, the two of them talked of adventures they had gone on. Kagome conveniently left out the fact that she had traveled to the past and Kuwabara had left out that he used to work for the ruler of Spirit World. They had become fast friends and were meeting each other at a small shop, then going to a surprise that Kazuma had set up for her.
Kagome smiled as she saw his tall shape and bright orange hair by a shop near the street. She ran up to him and gave him a hug as he began to lead her to the destination. After an hours walk (which was nothing to Kagome) filled with small talk and jokes, they reached seemingly endless stairs up to a place that Kagome could feel strong energies, demon and spirit, coming from the top. She tensed up upon realizing this.
Kuwabara noticed her tense so he put a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, I personally know every single person in there. You will be fine.”
“Thanks.” said Kagome. It was a relief to know that she was not going to have to kick any demon butt. Perhaps not all the demons in this era were bad.
That day Kagome’s life changed. For a long time she thought that life had changed for the better. He had just reminded her of Inuyasha so much. She dated him and within six months married him. Within the next five years they had a small house, good friends and memories and a daughter. So many of Kagome’s and Yusuke’s friends envied them. They looked so happy together, always holding hands, giving each other sweet kisses and calling each other just to say hi. They were the perfect couple that you just knew would end up growing old with each other.
From the outside, anyways.
The wedding had been nice. Not nothing fancy, just a small ceremony for family and friends at Kagome’s shrine. Kagome looked beautiful in her dress as she walked down the isle escorted by her grandfather. With them not having to pay money for the location, Yusuke and Kagome splurged on the decorations and dress. The pearl white dress went just past Kagome’s knees, showing off her legs. A white ribbon had been tied around her middle with the ends almost touching the ground. A large red rose had been fastened to the middle of the ribbon’s bow. The top of the dress clung a bit to Kagome’s skin and showed off just the right amount of cleavage. The arms of the dress went just before the bend of her elbows. Beautiful lace gloves covered the rest, covering the hand only partly, going up in a triangle shape towards the index finger and looping around to keep them in place. A thin silk veil of white hid her from the world. Her shoes were white open toed and had thin pearl white lace criss-crossing up her legs. All and all she was very beautiful.
Yusuke looked very dashing in his tuxedo, for once not having his hair greaced back he decided to leave it down for the occasion. He stood standing at the alter smiling his best smile at the woman he loved so much. His dream was coming true, he was going to marry a woman who could love him for what he was and didnt just want him for his power, as most Youkai women did. He could only imagine what the rest of their long life together would hold in store for them.
Five years since that ceremony. Their daughter, Akiri had grown into such a beautiful little girl. At four years old she dazzled her parents wither her strength and her wit. She multi colored eyes, one of sapphire blue and the other a warm hazelnut. She had chocolate brown hair that curled into little ringlets on the end. Her favorite activities were practicing archery with mommy and watching daddy wrestle uncle Kuwabara.
Yusuke sat in the drivers seat of his car, smiling at the woman looking out the window next to him. In the five years they had been married, Kagome only looked to be twenty two, but he knew she was thirty. He didn’t understand how she did it but he was not going to complain, he knew that he still looked like he was twenty. He knew it had something to do with the jewel that was inside of her, but he would love her even if she looked like Genkai. Ok, maybe not Genkai.... but if she looked older. She was just so accepting. She hadn’t cared that he was part demon. Hell, she seemed to like him more because she knew that he would live longer. They both just got along so well. She said it seemed like she had known him for years.
The girl in question was leaning her forehead against the window, staring at the street lights that were streaked by rain. The coolness of the glass felt wonderful, she had been feeling fairly warm for the last week and the cool glass was a welcome change. Akiri had been playing with the cooking utensils this morning, causing her a much unwelcome headache. Then the little girl had decided to cook up some chocolate covered cheese snacks with marshmallow, tooth paste, crushed apple cereal and sour cream sauce. Needless to say the smell made Kagome run from the room and lose her breakfast. She could not even enter the room again for her stomach would hear no such thing. Yusuke had to go and clean up the ‘cooking’ and tell Akiri not to play in the kitchen any more.
The little rascal that they called a daughter was asleep a car seat in the seats behind Kagome and Yusuke. A little snore could be heard every once and a while causing Yusuke to smile and Kagome to giggle. Two of the three in the were completely content and happy with their lives, while a third one was questioning her choices.
Yusuke pulled into their little driveway and carefully picked his daughter up as to not wake her up. He shielded her from the rain and cold as best as he could and went inside as Kagome held the door open for him. He carefully set his daughter down in her cream colored bed and went into his room. He heard the shower running and feel the heat from the shower even though he was several feet from the door. ‘Man! She likes it hot!’ thought Yusuke to himself. His original plan had been to go join her but not if it meant scalding himself in the process. He would just wait for her to return from the bathroom.
Kagome sat in the corner of her bathtub, not caring at all that her skin was being turned an angry red by the scalding hot water. The water helped to wash her guilt away. How could she have done this to Yusuke? She had never cheated on him and never would but she was hurting him just the same. He may not realize it now, or maybe ever but their relationship was false. Everyday she would put on a mask to make him happy. She knew he loved her and she loved him back but not in the way that he would want. Yusuke was a good friend to her, her best confidant but she could not even tell him her dark secret. It would break his heart and she did not have the power to do that to someone, let alone Yusuke.
But she still had to keep on kicking herself for marrying him. She put him in a false world by consenting to be his living wife (props to anyone who guesses where it is from before reading my little blurb at the end). She tucked her face into her legs and sighed. She had married him from a childish memory, a dream of being with Inuyasha for the rest of her life. Yusuke was just so loudmouthed, hot headed and strong she instantly fell for him. Because of her old love she made the mistake of marrying one she was not meant to be with be with. She finally understood that she was not meant to be with a cocky bad boy but she would never be able to hurt Yusuke.
About four months after the marriage was when she noticed this was not what she wanted. Yusuke had not changed at all since they married, he was still brash and rude, yet tender when the time called for it but Kagome found that her needs were changing. She still loved Yusuke but to her horror she found the attraction from before to be lust, a feeling that she was not all that used too. Now Yusuke held her heart in a friendly way but she still held all of his and with the wrong move she could crush it to dust, just as Inuyasha had done with hers several times. She could never do that to someone.
She wanted to talk to him about it though. After a couple of weeks she built up the courage to talk with him, knowing he could never get really angry at her. She returned from a midmorning walk and opened the door, mentally preparing herself for one of the hardest conversations she would ever have. Unfortunately for Kagome, Kurama paid an unexpected visit to their home just before she could find him. She answered the door and he looked surprised for a second, then felt her stomach. Kagome ‘eeped’ and then jumped away from him, his hands were cold!
Kurama shook his head a little bit and then called out. “Yusuke, Yusuke! Come here, I have some news for the both of you!” He smiled at Kagome as she looked at him a little confused.
Yusuke walked out of the master bedroom still wiping the sleep from his eyes. He was only clad in boxers, proving to Kurama and Kagome he had just woken up. “What do you want, fox boy?” Asked a sleepy Yusuke.
“I had come here to tell you that Genkai had requested to have you two help Yukina take care of the shrine grounds, but as it seems, I have much better news as well. To make it short, Kagome is with child.”
Kagome looked at both men and turned white, then promptly fainted. Yusuke quickly caught her and carried her bridal style to their bedroom where he layed her down and smoothed her hair out of her face. He went over to Kurama who was now sitting on his couch and began laughing in joy. Soon he was doubled over and even Kurama was laughing a little.
Kagome rested her head in her arms, the hot jets of water did not even feel warm anymore. They were just there. Kagome stretched and shut the water off. She toweled herself dry and stepped out of the steamy bathroom.
“Wow Kagome, you could start your own little spa in there, with all that heat and steam. People will be lining up for hours!” Yusuke laughed after this statement. It was always good to jest.
Kagome narrowed her eyes and threw her slipper at his face. He narrowly avoided it and gave her a wolfish grin that instantly reminded her of Kouga. He scooted over in the bed a little more and made some room for her. He pulled the blanked back revealing that he was not wearing anything and began to pat on the spot next to him. She pulled off the towel in her hair and tossed it in the close bin in the corner. She curled up under the covers and started to drift off to sleep when he started to caress her.
She scooted away and mumbled quietly. “Not tonight Yusuke, I’m tired and my breasts hurt. You were too rough with them last time.” she complained as he started to nuzzle her back.
“Fine, you win, but I’m going to cuddle you!” he said as he grabbed her and pulled her against him with no warning. He sighed being content just having her close to him when he felt something odd.
He began to rub her stomach and more towards her nether regions when she complained again. “I already told you no! I-”
“It’s not that Kagome!” Yusuke exclaimed as he sniffed her. Suddenly he jumped up and started yipping and jumping.
“Yusuke stop! Your going to wake Akiri!” said Kagome. Really, he got to be too much at times.
“No, its not that, your pregnant again!!” He said as he dashed on the bed and squeezed her against his chest. “I’m so happy! I cant wait to tell everyone!”
About an hour later after he had calmed down he fell asleep holding her tighter than usual. Kagome tried to slip from his grasp but his hold became like iron. “Where are you going?” Yusuke mumbled sleepily.
“I’ve got to pee.” Kagome whispered back. Instantly his hold on her was let loose and he turned around and went back to sleep.
Kagome tiptoed to the bathroom and only turned the light back on when the door was shut. Pregnant! How wonderful! Akiri had been such a joy to raise. Perhaps Akiri would have a brother, or maybe another sister. Kagome ran her hands up and down her stomach, feeling a tiny glow that was her baby.
Oh what fun she and Yusuke would have choosing the new toys, a crib, new paint for the baby’s new room. Curtains... she would have to choose those with Kurama... What would the first words be, hopefully not damn, like Akiri’s. Yusuke got a good talking too from that one. Would the baby walk at a very early age like Akiri? Would he or she prefer sneakers or dress shoes... Perhaps the baby would have a sweet tooth like Hiei... Would he or she be a fighter like daddy? Or would they be more willing to talk first....
Suddenly, a dark voice from the back of her mind came forth. ‘Or maybe this baby is just another chain keeping you attached to Yusuke.’ Kagome froze at that thought. Suddenly, she was reminded of a book she had to read for high school. The name had long since been lost on her, but a quote leapt out at her mind. ‘Destiny has chained you to me!’. Was this new child really helping to seal her in her misery? She had just been so happy a minute ago...
Kagome quickly got out of the bathroom to leave those evil thoughts behind and shut off the light. She stumbled into the bed and curled up, thoughts leaving her shaking in shame of herself for thinking that. Yusuke, sensing her return, rolled back over and pulled her back to his chest. He nuzzled his nose into her hair and kept his soft but strong grip on her.
Kagome sighed. Now she had two chains and an iron lock keeping her in this relationship that was nothing more than lies and illusions.
Can you tell at the beginning I just wanted to get it to when she was married to Yusuke? I was kinda feeling lazy, so I didnt really get into the surprise thingy that Kuwabara had thrown. It was a party, but I bet you kinda figured that out. I planned it to be quick but as most authors know, a story will take on its own mind It was almost five pages long on size ten font! *sighs* Well, I don’t know what the next one will be, that one just randomly came to me in the shower! See you next time!
You may have noticed some... odd quotes in that story, those are from one of my favorite books, Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera. I read it back when I was in high school and I loved it... I have quite a few lines memorized from it as well. The musical movie made me mad, Erik was not supposed to be pretty! The rain thing was inspired from where I come from. Seattle, it rains all the time, so its weird reading stories with constant good weather. In my little corner of the world, a good day is dancing in a field with hubby when its raining its hardest. Is there anything else to ask for? Aside from revews....
This is the first of a series of one shots that I am going to be writing based on a mood and some creative juices that hit me randomly. None of these stories will have anything to do with each other and one can merely guess the mood of the story from the title and summary.
