I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story.
Desperately Wanting
Kagome walked around her house. It was empty and cold. Gone were the days when she walked in and it was always warm.
She had been doing her best at living her dual life with little success after the first few months.
Homework, class work and other school related items that she had missed built up and up, towering her capabilities.
Her mother finally pulled her out and enrolled her in home school, which allowed her to carry her work with her in much lighter and portable workbooks. That made it easier, and to make Inu Yasha even happier, she didn’t have to come back as often because her tests were online and she was upheld to the honor system.
She did, however, have to take an exam in person at the end of each grade. She was actually getting ahead, much to her surprise and amazement.
She was here to drop off her workbook for math and pick up a new one.
Her surprise to find that her mom was out taking her grandfather for a physical at the doctor’s while Souta was in school. Ahhh, school… Sometimes, she really missed it, and others, she was happy to have the chance to be with her friends and fall in love in the past.
She sighed as she walked out after leaving a note to her mom and family.
The dark house just wasn’t the same.
Past the road to your house
That you never called home
Where they turned out the lights
Though they say you'll never know
She headed toward the well, gaining a spring in her step as she neared the portal that took her back to her love and life.
She loved the crisp, clean air and the wide-open fields. The forests that never seemed to end held their own wonder to her senses.
Such a contrast to the crowded, smelly and uncomfortable feeling Tokyo now left her with.
A grin came to her mind as she pictured the open meadow around the well as she jumped down. She had just been out there playing with Shippo and even Inu Yasha that morning. The dew on the grass had felt so cleansing. Sango and Miroku had stayed back at the village to rest while they were on their short hiatus.
I remember running through the wet grass
And falling a step behind
Both of us never tiring
Desperately Wanting
Although the modern era had its conveniences that had proven to be life saving.
They had allied themselves to Sesshomaru lately, and he even trained with her some. She had accidentally been poisoned by his claws. Inu Yasha had scooped her up faster than anybody could comprehend, his panic making him faster than most demons and surprising his half brother.
He had gotten her to the well and over to her time. He had jumped through time itself to save her then.
After that, he had stayed in the hospital while the doctors did their best to save her, and thankfully, they were successful.
When they pumped out your guts
And filled you full of those pills
You were never quite right
Deserving all the chills
They say the worst is over
Kicked it over and ran
Then they ask what went wrong
When they turn you on again
They turn you on again.
She suffered for a while after that, but she had finally triumphed and had even developed immunity to the poison, allowing her to keep practicing and fighting without so much worry.
The practicing was paying off, and she was getting stronger as well as better.
She was developing into a formidable foe.
Kagome relished her newfound confidence and often sparred with Sango. Their little group was growing in ways they never could have imagined.
Inu Yasha was being extra careful with her after the hospital incident. He was constantly standing guard and stopping her training whenever he felt that it was becoming too intense.
Kagome felt her tension rising every time he insisted on taking care of her and treating her like an untouchable porcelain doll that needed to be kept in a glass, air tight shelf, high above everybody and their reach.
Although, right now, he was merely standing to the side, yelling at her and in his own way, encouraging her to push herself further and further with Sango.
Kick them right in the face
Make them wish they weren't born
And if they bring up your name
Well they'll say you won the war.
She continued to practice with her heart’s sister until they both stopped, gasping for their next breath.
Sango was pleased with her improvement in battle. She was pleased that now they didn’t have to worry excessively that something would happen to her in battle.
Even though she was a more capable fighter, love wouldn’t allow them to be worry-free when they were fighting.
Kagome ran into the woods after the match ended, needing to escape and feel free. She couldn’t explain what pushed her. She was happy with her heart’s family on this side of the well. A belongingness that had long been denied her was so present that it slapped her in the face every time she went back to her own time.
Friends long forgotten had stopped calling except for the occasional inquiry to her health when they saw her mom in the store or out in other public situations. Hojo had moved on; his crush was all but forgotten when he started to date other girls that weren’t foisted upon him by push friends.
She felt odd thinking that she probably never had a chance to really feel alive in her old life, but that was how she felt.
Here she felt free: free to live, love and roam around. There was room for her to explore and get out. There was air to breath. There was even love for her, despite her differences. Perhaps those differences were what made it easier for all to fall instantly in love with her.
Baby burst in the world
Never given a chance
Then they ask what went wrong
When you never had it right
Oh the letters they have dropped off
Though they say you got them all
I finally figured out some things you'll never know.
Take back your life and let me inside
We'll find the door if you care to anymore.
Inu Yasha watched as she ran off. He had to chase her.
His instincts were screaming for him to speed up and put her in her rightful place-his arms.
He had been pleased beyond even his comprehension when she was able to spend nearly all of her time with him. Even if it was with the whole pack, she was with him. His happiness was immeasurable.
Now, he had to make sure he was in her heart just as she was in his.
He gave chase, catching up to her as she ran through a grassy plain that smelt so strongly of sunshine and the oncoming rain.
The air was thick and heady as it engulfed them, just as his arms engulfed her form. His greedy nose pressed closer to the juncture of her neck and shoulder, trying to take in as much of her teasingly erotic scent as it could.
His eyes had never really turned as they had watched her grow and mature into the enticing young woman that she was now.
He was proud to have been there in the beginning of her life here. She had advanced and adapted not seamlessly, but overwhelmingly well. Her struggles were paying off in her achievements. She even tried to keep up a pretense at another life from her original start.
He knew that she didn’t belong there anymore.
She was his.
He also knew that if she felt the need to be in her other life that he would be right there with her because she was not leaving him and he was no longer leaving her. Their bond was too precious for that.
He kissed her and teased her before telling her to run.
He let her go with a light kiss to her cheek to reassure her.
He wanted to chase her and catch her; he needed to.
She ran, laughing, as he gleefully followed her before finally tackling her down and swaying her into a lover’s kiss.

Hey all. I just could not get this song out of my head today. It has been going through over and over, so I decided to use it.
I finally finished up on my last chapter to JALR earlier and was feeling a little sad about it. (Well, I hope you all enjoyed it. I don’t usually get into song fics that much, but I was just in the mood for a good short one.
Take care. Please review and let me know how I did. Please, please, pretty please!
