The thunderous crack could be heard echoing throughout the woods, sending a nearby flock of birds to take to the sky in fright, abandoning their resting places in the red and gold speckled trees. A soothing breeze that could only come from it being autumn carrying them on their journey.

Miroku lay on the ground in a disheveled heap, a pulsating red palm print painted on his cheek, which seemed to be so hot it was giving off steam. A look of pure bliss on his face was accompanied by a satisfied grin. Sango stood above Miroku, her cheeks a bright shade of red and her eyes narrowed into an ominous glare as she looked into his dark, loving eyes.

She turned her back to him and raised her right hand into a clutched fist in front of her. “What do you call yourself doing monk!? We’re not even alone and yet you still can’t control those hands of yours. Does your hentai conscience know any self restraint?” Sango hissed through clenched teeth. The hand holding Hiraikotsu beginning to violently shake, making Miroku give a nervous gulp.

He slowly rose to his feet before casually dusting his robes of leaves and dirt before facing her with a serious look on his face. He grabbed her free hand in both of his, squeezing gently. “My dear Sango, all I was merely doing was showing those two travelers we passed our deep affection for each other and that you are to be my wife. I honestly had no lecherous intentions. Can you blame me for wanting to proclaim my love for you to the world? I’m married to the most beautiful woman in the –.” He was cut off as Hiraikotsu came slamming down into his head, causing him to crash down to the ground once more, leaving him with a sightly bump on his head. He let out another sigh before rolling onto his back to look up at her, that same mischievous grin flashing at her.

At the sight of his devious grin, Sango only became more enraged and the small vein protruding from her forehead only began to pulse even harder. She screamed in his face,” Monk…I’m curious…please tell me why you felt the need to express our engagement to each other by simultaneously groping both my breast and my ass!!! Did you ever stop to think that holding my hand would have been just as effective?” She raised her free hand to her mouth to hide a small giggle as Miroku smacked his palm to his forehead.

She turned to look back down the road to see the two passersby look back as well. Soft snickers and snorts came from them before breaking out in hysterical laughter, clutching their sides and slapping their knees as they faded out of view. Her face slowly became an even brighter shade of red.

Kagome’s and Inuyasha’s cheeks were both tinged a deep shade of red as well as they attempted to pretend to be looking around and acting as though nothing had ever happened. Inuyasha’s mind had already been in overdrive from the events of the night before, but the sight of Miroku passionately embracing Sango from behind as he tenderly kissed the nape of her neck while he gently cupped a breast with his cursed hand and her ass cheek with the other, was still quite vivid in both their minds. This was affecting Inuyasha in a very peculiar way, as he could smell Sango’s arousal from Miroku’s attentions and the fact it had taken her so long for her to return to her senses and had even allowed a soft moan to escape her throat was starting to push him over the edge.

He started to fidget as he felt his hakama become increasingly uncomfortable and tight. Inuyasha turned his back to them as he tried to hide his throbbing manhood from his friends. He would resist his urges no matter how much his body screamed for release.

Just when he thought he was going to be able to suppress his urges so they could continue on their way to Kaede’s village, Kagome’s scent suddenly flooded his nostrils and the very evident spike in her own arousal made him start to abandon his resolve. He turned slightly to look over his shoulder, his fuzzy white ears beginning to twitch ever so slightly, to see her staring at him, a look of pure lust and burning passion roaring behind her eyes. In that very moment, he wanted nothing more than to take her right then and there and make her his mate. He had always had these feelings for her. He’d felt the need to proclaim his love for her present itself stronger then ever recently. He knew she shared the same feelings for him as he did she, but the same damn thoughts always hindered him from following his heart. His mental anguish from the fact that he was a half demon, a hanyou, was what always stopped him. He felt like she was too good for him, too pure even. Why would she want to truly spend the rest of her life with someone that was considered an abomination by both humans and demons alike? He would never deserve her love, no matter what he did or became. Then there was also….

“Inuyasha?”

Kagome’s soft voice quickly brought him from his train of thought to focus back on her. He turned completely to find her face merely inches from his. His face instantly blushing furiously, turning a shade of red not unlike that of his fire-rat robes. Her sexy brown passion-flooded eyes stared right into his golden orbs. The urge for him to dive in and save her from drowning at the back of his mind as he whispered, ”Kagome…” A small hand slowly rose up to his face, caressing his cheek. Her soft touch filling his body with a sense of peace and belonging.

“Are you feeling okay Inuyasha?”, Kagome asked softly, her facial expression showing concern while her eyes showed an unmet need in them. A need for him! “Is something wrong?”, she asked again. Inuyasha merely stood there, looking deep into her eyes, the passion of them overwhelming him as he felt the last of his resolve fade away. Forgetting to answer, he pulled her into a rough embrace before crushing his lips to hers. Her eyes widened in shock, a small muffled gasp escaping her lips as she felt his tongue thrust into her surprised mouth. Her eyes slowly fluttered shut and she began to gently massage his tongue with her own as she allowed him to explore the inside of her mouth.

“Oh Kami, I’m kissing Kagome again! This feeling is so incredible, I wish that it would never have to come to an end,” was the only thought going through Inuyasha’s mind as the world slowly began to fade away around them and he began to kiss her even more passionately. He raised a clawed hand behind her head and pulled her in closer. Their tongues fighting furiously in a battle for dominance. Their mouths trying to devour the others. He could feel her tongue starting to push his back. Kagome’s small hand fisting in his silver mane as she drew him in closer still. He let his tongue retreat into his mouth where hers pursued it. Her tongue thrust in his mouth roughly as she took her time exploring, being gentle as she grazed across his fangs. He let out a deep groan as her soft hand started to gently rub one of the small white triangle that were his ears, pleasure flooding his body. How did she know how to rub him in just the right way? They were oblivious to the world around them as they continued to kiss…including their traveling companions for that matter.

The forced sound of a throat being cleared brought him out of what Inuyasha could only have described as Nirvana. He broke off the kiss with Kagome to look to his side to see Miroku, Sango, and Shippo staring wide-eyed with a look of utter shock on their faces. Miroku of course, recovered first, flashing an almost devilish grin at him. Shippo was such a shade a red from what his underage eyes saw, he could have easily been mistaken for Inuyasha’s fire-rat. The young kit clasped his hands over his eyes and turned around. Sango merely stood there awestruck and motionless, looking from Inuyasha to Kagome and back again. Her cheeks slowly flushed a small shade of red as well.

Inuyasha looked over all of them, a deep shade of embarrassment coloring his face. He looked back down at the perfection that was Kagome held against him with his arms around her. She was looking up at him, a small mischievous smile on her face as she bit down on her reddened lips, an underlying sense of unbridled joy in her eyes.

“Oh Inuyasha!” Kagome exclaimed as the feelings of immense joy overwhelmed her and she pulled him to her and hugged him tightly around his chest. Was he finally going to confess his love for her? Would the feelings she had for him for so long going to be finally reciprocated back? “I Love You Inuyasha!” Kagome sighed as she buried her face into his haori, enjoying the warmth he gave her.

Inuyasha’s eyes flew open in shock as he felt his heart skip a beat from the utterance of those four words. He should have been happy. He should have jumped for joy and given her a deep kiss before telling her how much she meant to him and how much he loved her, but the same sickening feeling hit him again. A sudden chill ran down his spine again as he thought about what she said. “I Love You Inuyasha…” The feelings of despair and self-loathing returned in an instant. He had given in to his urges again! The feeling he had made another terrible mistake accompanying the others. Was he really this powerless when it came to Kagome? He was supposed to be pushing her away, for her own good. Protecting her from not only physical harm, but from his emotions as well. He loved her but he felt he didn’t deserve her, deserve her love. He felt he’d need to keep her away, no matter how much it hurt the both of them. He would not allow her to go through that… what his mother had. She deserved better then that as well!

“I’m sorry Kagome…. I…. I…. I need to be alone for a little while…”. He slowly pushed her away as his ears flattened to his skull; he bowed his head, his long silver hair covering his face, obscuring his pained face from Kagome and the others. His fist began trembling violently at his sides, his tone as he spoke becoming almost pleading,” I can’t Kagome, I just…can’t.” He lowered his head even further as he struggled to contain his emotions. His whole body began to shake with grief as Kagome’s scent became flooded with hurt and confusion. He wanted to kill himself for causing her so much pain. Then he could smell her unshed tears forming and his heart sank lower then he’d ever felt it sink before.

Kagome couldn’t even begin to describe the hurt from his rejection to her love. All those times she’d felt as if her heart had been ripped out whenever he ran off to see Kikyo combined couldn’t compare to this feeling of utter despair. She looked at the ground as she could feel the salty tears beginning to trickle down her face. Would he never love her like she loved him? Would she be left waiting in futility for the rest of her life for him to love her? She began to contemplate yelling at him, trying to pressure him into telling her why she wasn’t worthy of his love, why would she never be good enough him, when she noticed the way he shook after pushing her away. Was he…crying?

“Inuyasha…”, Kagome whispered through her intensifying heartache. “Please Inuyasha…. tell me what’s wrong…please…” She slowly raised her hand up to his face through his hair, still obscured by his massive flowing silver locks. When she cupped his cheek in her hand, he flinched and pulled away from her. He snarled in a deep pained voice,” Stay away from me you bitch!” Inuyasha quickly turned his back to her and leapt into the nearby trees and out of sight, leaving the small party on the side of the road.

Kagome fell to her knees clutching her chest as she fought to hold back the new waves of stinging tears. She brought her hand up in front of her face to look at it in disbelief. The entire inside of her palm was wet. The only indication of her hanyou’s distress. It was apparent now more then ever that something was tormenting him horribly, and if she didn’t help him overcome it, if she didn’t prove to him just how deep her love ran and her unconditional acceptance of who he was, she risked losing him forever. She quickly wiped her tears away from her face with the back of her hands before rising to her feet and turning to her friends. She flashed a small insincere smile trying to cover her own distress and rising dread in her eyes.

“Something’s wrong with Inuyasha! I’m going to go after him. We’re only a half-day away from Kaede’s village, you guys go on ahead. Inuyasha and I will catch up with you eventually.” Kagome gathered her backpack and bow and quiver of arrows before hastily running into the woods with her head bowed, vanishing into the dense foliage.

Sango made to follow her, her face full of concern and hurt when she felt Miroku’s hand on her shoulder and felt him give her a gentle squeeze. She turned to him to see him shaking his head. His eyes showing a somewhat forced determination.

“No Sango. This is something Inuyasha and Kagome need to work out on their own. We’d only be making things worse if we interfered,” Miroku stated, followed by a deep sigh. “Believe me, I want to help them as much as you do.” It took a great deal of self-restraint himself to keep from pursuing them into the woods as well, but for less noble reasons of course.

Sango gave him a pleading look as she half-heartedly tried to pull away from him. “But what if she gets hurt? We can’t just let her go off by herself! What if a demon attacks? What if Naraku-!” She was cut off as Miroku placed a finger gently to her lips to silence her. He leaned in giving her a soft kiss on her lips. It had the desired effect.

“I know, but Kagome’s a lot stronger then we normally take her for. She can handle herself. We’ll let them try to work out their differences, for both their sakes. If they don’t arrive within the next day or two we will come retrieve them. Have faith in me Sango, this is for the best. Shippo lets go.” Miroku said firmly as they began back down the path to Kaede’s village. Much to Sango’s delight, Miroku took her advice and held her hand the whole way as well as resisting the urge to grope her for the entire trip.

Sango silently thought to herself, “So maybe there’s hope for you yet my lecherous husband.”

The sun was beginning to set as they arrived at Kaede’s hut. She was outside the hut holding a bucket filled with warm water. Shippo launched from Miroku’s shoulder to run up to the elderly priestess. “Kaede!!! We missed you so much!” squeaked the young fox demon. Kaede merely gave a soft smile before patting him on the head, her old features seeming slightly less noticeable. She nodded to the monk and demon slayer as they neared her. She formally greeted them when she noticed neither Kagome nor Inuyasha were anywhere to be found. Her face instantly grew stiff and serious. They went inside the tiny home and sat around the inviting fire, eating a warm stew that Kaede had prepared upon their arrival. Things began to feel awkward as no one muttered a word while they ate.

When Kaede’s patience finally evaporated, she spoke up, effectively breaking the silence, “So friends, might this old woman ask why Kagome and Inuyasha are not presently here with you all?” Kaede’s eye staring at them as she could sense something was wrong. When she saw Sango blush then look up at Miroku, whom nodded with a concerned expression on his face, she knew something was definitely amiss. “Did something happen?” Her single-eyed glare becoming more and more intense as she waited for an answer. Finally Sango softly answered, “Well…uh…were not quite sure ourselves actually….”

-----------------

A young man wearing a full black set of robes including an oversized hood walked through a beautiful field of several assorted types of extravagant flowers with his head bowed, his black hood obscuring every feature of his face from view except for his mouth which was set in a tight frown. He’d have normally laid down to relax in the bed of flowers, letting the waves of soothing aromas wash over him as he gazed into the endless sky, basking in the sun’s warmth until sleep would inevitably come to claim him. It had been something he had always enjoyed doing since he was a little boy…back during his days of innocence…before his life was turned upside down…those days he feared he would never have the pleasure of experiencing again…

The young man kneeled down to pick a particularly exuberant white rose. After holding it for a moment in his hand, the rose suddenly burst into a bright green flame and burned to ashes within seconds, vanishing from his hand as a small breeze carried what remained away. He merely looked at his palm, his mouth forming a somewhat exasperated scowl as he let a depressed sigh out. The young man got to his feet and slowly continued through the meadow in the same direction toward his unknown location. Even he didn’t know where he was headed. All he felt was a deep pull on his very being to continue in this straight path, hoping where ever he was supposed to go was close and that when he got there, he would finally have some answers to some of the questions that were beginning to make him become more and more upset and frustrated as he tried to figure out what had happened to him…

The man reached inside the collar of his robes to pull out a breath taking, beautifully crafted golden necklace with what appeared to be ancient inscriptions expertly carved onto it with an amulet attached to the necklace as well. Embedded within the small amulet was a priceless looking jade colored gemstone which constantly emitted a soft green glow, even in broad daylight.

The man simply held it in his palm as he stared into the mystic glow of the gemstone as if in a trance. Memories suddenly flooded his mind as images of the happier times during his childhood and his mother’s smiling face danced around in his head. The memories of his mother caused him to clutch the gemstone fiercely in his trembling hand as his head hung even lower and a soft green light flashed from under the hood. The man released his hold on the amulet, allowing it to once again, rest against his chest. He inhaled deeply a few times, allowing the flowers pleasant smells to fill his nostrils as he slowly felt his calm returning.

After letting out another sigh, he lifted his head up, his face still hidden under his hood, but a small smile had replaced his scowl, indicating he was happy about something. He gazed out over the field, looking for something, before calling out in a loud, yet friendly voice, “Toraneko…Toraneko where are you? Its time to go!” He then resumed on his path in the straight line toward his unknown destination as a soft meow greeted his ears.

Out of the vast ocean of flowers emerged a tiny brown, three-tailed cat with black jagged stripes down its back and legs and a black star in the middle of its forehead. The cat ran up to him and jumped onto his shoulder, giving off another low meow before giving the young man a soft kiss on his cheek with its tongue. This caused the man to let out a soft laugh. He gently rubbed the strange, yet exotic looking cat on its forehead and behind its ears, earning him a soft purring which vibrated through his whole shoulder.

“Ah Toraneko, you’ve been my best friend since I can even begin to remember. I’m most fortunate to have you as my companion. “ He looked into the small cats piercing green eyes before saying, “That’s a good girl. Come on, I have a feeling we are nearing our destination.”

After continuing on his way walking in the same direction for a little while, a feeling hit him as if he had ran straight into a wall. Someone or something was in front of him a little further down in the direction he had been blindly traveling. He pushed out with his aura to try and identify the nature of the potential threat in front of him that was just out of his sight. His aura brushed against that of the unknown obstacle in his path. He sensed this person had immense spiritual powers…most likely a priest or a monk…but something was different about it. There felt like there was something missing from it…something that every aura should possess…but what could it be? He slowly began to walk up the side of a hill, the presence of whoever was ahead of him, drawing nearer and nearer with each step. He would meet whomever this person was when he came down the other side of the hill.

When he reached the top of the hill, his eyes jerked open, as he stood frozen. Standing there, no more then twenty-five feet away or less was a woman wearing priestess garbs, her bow drawn and an arrow knocked and ready to fire, the arrow emitting a brilliant pink glow. He immediately noticed by the way she aimed, she meant to kill him at a moments notice. Her waist length ponytail flailing around at the mercy of the wind. Her dark eyes staring a hole through him as she pulled the arrow back a bit more. Her voice was thick with hostility as she shouted, “State your name and your business or you shall find yourself spending the rest of eternity in hell. I would answer with the utmost haste if I were you…” pulling the arrow as far back as she could. The pink light radiating from her arrow becoming blinding…

Toraneko sensing the priestess’ threatening tone and her master’s discomfort quickly leapt down in front of the black clad man. She stood protectively in front of him letting out an almost precious little warning growl before she was engulfed in green roaring flames. The flames spread wide in front of the young man and when they dissipated, instead of the tiny, cute little cat, there now stood a massive cat; with long fangs bared, acidic saliva dripping from them, burning away the grass from under her, huge claws extended, digging into the soft earth as she lowered her head to a defensive position in front of the young man. Her three tails flailing behind her wildly. The once adorable growls of warning had now been replaced with the bone chilling shrieks of a massive feral demon cat out for blood.

The priestess was taken aback for a split second as she stared at the massive demon cat poised to lunge at her. She quickly recovered and reaffirmed her hold on her bow and drew the arrow back as far as she could once again. She could easily kill the cat should it attack it. She was seconds from firing, when the hooded man merely shook his head.

“Honestly now, there is no need for all this. I’m not here to cause any trouble.” He said as sincerely as he could. He walked up to the massive feral cat and rubbed its head. “Toraneko, its ok girl. There’s no need for us to fight. Back down!” He whispered to the enraged cat. The cat looked up at him, her green eyes clouded with uncertainty. The man nodded once more and the cat gave a soft meow before being engulfed in green flames, which shrank to a small blaze before dissipating. Where the flames had once been, now sat the tiny brown three-tailed cat again. Toraneko merely looked up at him before starting to clean herself. The man smiled at the tiny demon cat before turning back towards the apprehensive priestess. The small smile still on his face.

The priestess slowly lowered the bow, but did not return the arrow to the quiver on her back, an obvious sign that she did not fully trust him. She watched as the man’s smile became a sly grin.

The man slowly began to lift his hood as he spoke softly, “What’s my purpose for being here? That I can’t answer honestly myself, I feel as if something has commanded my very soul to venture down this path. I don’t even know where I’m headed myself my lady.” His hood was now high enough to reveal his nose and cheeks, which began to turn from a pale white to a warm blush. “My name…fair priestess…Is Zanshi.”

The man wearing nothing but black robes who was now known as Zanshi slowly pulled his hood completely off as he smiled brightly. The priestess’s mouth fell agape as she looked upon his features and gasped when she had a most disturbing recollection of his name…

Zanshi politely asked, “May I asked for your name in return?”

The priestess still too shocked by what she saw, failed to answer as a long forgotten memory flashed before her eyes…

A/N: Hey everyone! This is my first Fanfiction story and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did writing it; I will have the next chapter up soon. What will happen if and when Kagome finds Inuyasha? What does Zanshi look like that has the priestess so speechless? What is Zanshi exactly and what is the priestess remembering about him? What happened the night before when Miroku proposed to Sango? You’ll have to read and find out! (Hehe) Please review if you found my story the slightest bit interesting. Some reviews would motivate me to write like a madman. (It might seem short because of the thick paragraphs, but it really isn’t lol) Thank you and please keep reading!

Translations:

Zanshi: Translates to “Tragic Death”

Toraneko: Translates to “Tabby Cat”…I know…why name a badass demon cat after a normal tabby? Cause I have a tabby named Angel whom I love dearly. I just had to add her in! Plus “Angel” in Japanese feels like it’s too long to use as a name, LOL.

Higeki: Translates to “Tragedy”…No, I’m not Emo or anything, its just that I’ve used Tragedy as my name for many years for everything. Yahoo, Msn, Aim, Skype, Everquest, WoW, Xbox Live, the list goes on.

“Tatsujin Higeki”: Translates to “Master Tragedy” (which is my current X-box Live Gamertag!!!) ^-^

Oh yeah, If someone would mind helping me w/ betas, proper suffixes such as when to use “Chan”, “Sama”, exc; please holla at me. Oh and the Japanese names for weapon/moves from the Inuyasha Universe would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
