Prologue
The grass was still wet from the dew as the sun has already forced the moon to get invisible and to warm the surface of the earth. A lone figure was sitting leaned against an old well in a clearing near the famous Goshinboku. It was a young woman with waist length raven hair and unusual blue eyes. She wore a dark blue kimono with white leaves on the sleeves and matching slippers. This young womans name is Kagome Higurashi and she is from another time. A time she could never return to. She was now twenty years old. The well lost its magic three years ago. She lost everything on this day, her life her family and above all …her love. It happened so fast she was sure it was just a nightmare. Yet the warm blood from her hanyou on her hands and body said something else on that fateful day.
It was the night of the new moon as Naraku attacked the village where they always returned to rest and get more supplies. He knew it, somehow the monster knew of Inuyashas human night. The gleam in his eyes confirmed it. Her group had no chance against the hordes of demons and Miroku couldn´t use his Kazaana because of the Saimyoushous. Kaede was slaughtered by a bear youkai, Miroku and Sango had serious cuts on their legs and arms as they fought side by side. Even in his human form Inuyasha fought bravely and never left her side. Shippo was on the sidelines and helped with his foxfire as Kirara tried to protect him and Sango at the same time. She herself could do nothing but fire one arrow after the other until she had no more left. But she was not helpless yet because she channeled her miko powers into the bow and repeled the vicious attackes of many youkai that night. That was until Naraku get bored and decided to send his tentacles directly into her direction. She was too slow to dodge but not her companion. Three of four tentacles pierced through his torso and the last one through her left shoulder. It was as if time had stilled as she watched how her love hunched down in pain only to fall back into her arms as the appendages retreated. His weight forced her on her knees where she cradled his head in her lap.
Numb to her own pain she smoothed his bangs out of his face and kissed his eyes, cheeks, nose and finally his mouth. She could vaguely remember how she confessed her love to him, how she begged him not to leave her, to wait for her. He revealed his violet orbs to her and smiled, a smile she never saw on him before. It was quiet and peaceful. He tried to say something and to wipe off her tears but he had no strength left and the arm he had tried to lift fell back as the light in his eyes expired. At the same time her heart died. Even as the blood in her veins still flowed, Kagome Higurashi died with Inuyasha on this day. After this everything was a complete blur. Miroku told her that she had lost it and screamed so loud that the next village had surely heard her. Somehow she unleashed her power as the whole area was surrounded in holy energy. Naraku was seriously injured but was able to escape but no other foe had survived. Her power was always more intense if she was under emotional stress. And yet it didn´t matter anymore. She was just not fast nor strong enough. She had failed to protect her loved one.
Never would she forget Inuyashas beautiful face with that smile but she would never forget Narakus face either. How his long dark hair was billowing behind him. How everything around them was under fire and the sparks gave him an ethereal appearance. His crimson eyes were flashing with satisfaction and that cruel, smug smirk. What she would have given to kill him with her bare hands but she couldn´t, not yet.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
She was dying. Three weeks had passed and she was in some kind of coma. Why should she wake up? Shippo was big enough, he didn´t need her so much anymore. There was just no reason to live on without Inuyasha, he was everything to her. Until Miroku spoke to her while he was meditating. If Mirokus voice hadn´t reached her she would be dead now. He was the one who gave her the reason to live: revenge. She had to find the bastard and avenge Inuyashas death. She had to stop him before he killed more innocent people, before it would be too late for Miroku.
Kagome woke up but everythin had changed. Many villagers had died that day including Kaede. Shippos childhood had reached an abrupt end. The young kitsune had seen many deaths before but Inuyasha and Kaede were like family to him as well. The only family he had left after his parents death. Kirara, Sango and Miroku were physically allright but emotionally drained.
Time passed and they trained together but she was not able to control her miko power fully. Miroku couldn´t help her anymore, his energy was too different from her own. She was forced to leave and find someone who could help her. Naraku was still hiding and probably planning something. Sango and Miroku had married and she was already expecting. There was no other choice because his Kazaana was getting bigger and Sango was afraid of losing him. She didn´t want to have any regrets. Like Kagome had. If she had known she would lose Inuyasha so soon she would have mated with him instead of always fighting about stupid things. And maybe she would have a pup now instead of being all alone.

The miko sighed and stood up. Yes, she was standing in the clearing were everything began. She walked slowly to the Goshinboku and remembered the day, as if it was only yesterday, how she had found Inuyasha pinned to it. How young and peaceful he appeared to be. A sad smile graced her lips as she left the clearing and walked on the familiar path through the forest to her new destiny.
