Rin walked into her bedroom
and flopped face down onto her bed. She
kicked off her shoes and lay there for w miw minutes. She was just about to get up to take a shower when the doorbell
rang. Cursing the whole way, she went
to the door.
"'s m's midnight.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Go away."
"It's Kohaku."
A smile spread across her face
as she heard her friend's voice.
"What are you doing here
so late?" she asked as she opened
the door.
"Do I need a reason to
come see you? Especially seeing as I
got food." he said as he indicated the bags in his arms.
Rin took one and moved so he
could come in. They went to the kitchen
and sat the bags down.
"The food smells
good. Let me go take a shower and then
we'll eat."
"Okay."
Rin stripped off her clothes
as she walked to the bathroom. She then
got in the shower. Once she was done,
she threw on a robe and went back into the living room where Kohaku had already
sat the food out. Rin took a carton of
food from Kohaku and flopped down on the couch to begin eating.
"Hungry?"style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kohaku asked.
"Starving.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I just didn't realize it until I smelled
this." she said.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "There's nothing much here."
"Going shopping would
solve that problem."
"I never seem to find
time. Besides, I prefer to eat
out." she said.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "By any chance did you get
any...."
"Oreos are in the fridge,
Snicker's ice cream bars in the freezer."
he answered before she could finish.
"You're too good to
me." she said with a bright
smile. "You always seem to know
what I need."
"That's my duty as a
friend."
Rin sighed happily and leaned
against Kohaku as she ate.
"Let's see if there's
anything on television."
Kohaku begun flipping through
the channels. As he went through, Rin
thought she saw a familiar face go by.
"Turn back to that
channel." she said quickly as she
sat up.
"What channel?"
"The news station."
Rin grabbed the remote from
him and began going through the channels until she found the one she was
looking for. She stared at the face she
thought she had seen. Hiten Thunder.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Her blood ran cold as she watched him
smile.
"I've said it from the
beginning that those fucking cops set me up.
And it's only taken a few years in jail for everyone to figure that
out." he said sarcastically.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "But I'm glad to finally be free."
The fork slipped out of Rin's
hands.
"No."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> she whispered.
"What's wrong?"style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kohaku asked.
"H-h-h-e's free."
"Who's free?"
"Him." she said pointing
to the television. "Oh god,
Sesshomaru."
Kohaku, who had turned to look
at the television, stiffened. He should
have known that this had to do with Sesshomaru. Anytime Rin truly got upset it usually had something to do with
him. She got off the couch, ran into
her bedroom and begun getting dressed.
Kohaku followed behind her.
"Where are you
going?"
"I have to go to
him."
"No."
"Yes.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He's already has to know and probably not
taking it well."
"All the more reason for
you not to go. Doesn't he have someone
else who can go to him?"
Rin stopped putting on her
shoe and looked up at Kohaku.
"No.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Even if he did, I'd still go."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> she said.
"Look, it's...we're...."
"Complicated."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kohaku finished.
"Yes.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Thanks for understanding."
Rin gave him a quick kiss on
the cheek and left. Kohaku sighed.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
"But I don't
understand. Not really."
In record time Rin made it to
Sesshomaru's apartment. She knocked on
the door.
"Open up.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It's Rin."
When he didn't respond, she
knocked again and used her key to get in.
She walked in and quickly covered her nose. The apartment smelled like a disgusting mixture of alcohol,
cigarettes, and something else that she didn't want to think about.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> The place looked as bad as it smelled.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
"What are you doing
here?"
Rin jumped at the sound of his
voice. She turned around to face
him. He looked terrible.style="mso-erunerun: yes"> His clothes looked like he had slept in it
and his gorgeous golden eyes were dead.
Normally neat and shining silver hair was limp and plastered to his head
in odd places. Worst of all, he smelled
like the apartment. The cologne he
usually wore was now mingled with smoke, and alcohol.
"I came to see how you
were doing."
"I'm fine."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> he slurred.
"Of course."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> she said sarcastically as she glanced over
him again. "Sessru, ru, I saw the
news report. I know Hiten’s out."
Sesshomaru stiffened and
glared at her.
"Go home Rin."
"No.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Why didn't you call me?"
"Because it's none of
your fucking business." he said
angrily.
"Sess...."
"Leave it alone
Rin."
"I only want to
help."
"Why would I need help
from someone like you."
"What do you mean someone
like me?"
Rin knew she wasn't going to
like his answer but she had to ask.
"A whore."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> he replied with a smirk.
"Fuck you."
"Why so
defensive?" he asked.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "You are Koga's whore aren't you?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He pays you for services rendered."
"Yes."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> she said as she plastered a smile on her
face. "Why do you care?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Are you jealous?"
A real smile replaced her fake
one when she saw him frown. He hated to
be accused of being jealous. Before she
realized what he was going to do, Sesshomaru pushed her against the nearest
wall and pinned her arms to her side.
"Now why would I be
jealous when I can get what he buys for free?"
Rin didn't even try to deny
it. It wasn't a secret that she wanted
him more than anything. That was
obvious even now as she was ready and willing to sleep with him despite him
being drunk and insulting her.
Sesshomaru inched his face closer to hers. Just as it seemed like he was going to kiss her, he shifted his
head and placed a kiss on her neck.
"Poor little
Rin." he whispered.
A shiver ran through her as
she felt his tongue brush across her ear.
Rin looked at him out the corner of her eye when he began sniffing
her.
What the hell?
Before she could ask him what
his problem was, he pulled back.
"You smell like
cologne."
"And you smell like a
brewery." she replied.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "What's the problem?"
"Men's
cologne." he added icily.
He closed his eyes slightly
and took what she hoped was a calming breath.
Unfortunately when he opened his eyes, she could see that he was
furious.
"You let me touch you
after you've been with someone." he asked with barely concealed anger.
"No."
"Explain the
cologne."
She couldn't.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It had to be Kohaku's but she couldn't tell
him that. For some strange reason,
Sesshomaru loathed Kohaku even more than Koga. If it was possible, the temperature in the room seemed to
drop. Rin knew that he was taking her
hesitation as an answer.
"You're hurting me."
she said as his hand began tightening against her arms. style="mso-spacerun: yes">
She tried to pull away but he
tightened his grip.
"In your line of work, I
hardly think this ie fie first time."
he said with a small chuckle.
"I know about the black room."
Rin's eyes widened in
shock.
NO!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He can't.
Not that. Anything but that.
But he did otherwise he
wouldn't have mentioned it. Sesshomaru
let her go and stumbled away. Rin,
whose legs suddenly felt like rubber, quickly lowered herself to the ground before
she fell. She stared down at her hands
which were turning white because she was squeezing the together tightly.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She knew she should get up and leave, but
her body refused to listen. A few
moments later, Sesshomaru came back and stood over her.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
"Maybe you need this to
finish our little game."
Rin didn't make a move to see
what he was talking about. She didn't
have to because something was thrown at her.
Being hit didn't hurt but seeing what actually hit her did.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Money.
Sesshomaru was throwing money at her.
Like a whore, she thought miserably.
Her heart stopped pounding and she went cold all over.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> If it was possible she was past wanting to
cry. Nothing he said or done could've
hurt her more.
I always knew that's how he
saw me.
Rin sighed deeply and looked
up at him. It cut her deeply to see the satisfied smirk on his face.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He was deliberately trying to hurt her.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He was staring at her intensely, waiting
for her reaction. Rin just gave him a blank
look. She knew that he wanted her to do
and say what she really wanted to say.
But she wouldn't. Like him, Rin
had a temper. And if she lost hers then
he would completely lose his. From
there, things would go from bad to horrible quickly.
"I don't want to look at
you. Get out."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> he said pointing toward the door.
Rin shook her head no.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She wasn't going anywhere and he knew
that. Underneath the anger and
insults she knew that he was hurting.
Sesshomaru sighed deeply and Rin noticed him relax.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> All the anger seemed to drain out of him and
he looked exhausted. Rin reached out
and grabbed his hand. Sesshomaru looked
down at their hands as she laced their fingers together.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> After a few minutes of staring at them, he
knelt down next to her and looked at her.
She shivered slightly as his golden eyes seemed to stare straight
through her.
"From the beginning I knew
you'd ruin me." he muttered
darkly.
Rin didn't get a chance to
respond because Sesshomaru closed his eyes and fell forward into her lap.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
Rin walked in the door with
groceries bags in her hand and a ice pop hanging out of her mouth.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kohaku, who had waited for her, watched as
she sat the bags down on the table.
"Rin, it's six- thirty in
the morning."
"I know.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I went to that all night grocery store.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I didn't have any food to cook you
breakfast." she said quickly.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "And I really wanted to cook you a
nice breakfast. Some eggs,
bacon...."
Kohaku tuned her out and
studied her. She was deathly pale and
her hands were shaking slightly. His eyes narrowed when he noticed that shasn\asn't wearing the clothes that she had left in. Rin noticed him staring at her clothes and shook her head
slightly.
"I know what you're
thinking." she said softly.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> "I didn't sleep with him."
"It's not my business if
you did."
"I didn't.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He threw up on me."style="mso-spacerun: yes"> she said laughing. "Kohaku, he actually threw up on me."
Saying it again made Rin laugh
even harder. Kohaku looked at her and
shook his head slightly. He knew her
well enough to know that she wasn't laughing because she found it humorous.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She was laughing to keep from crying.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
"God Rin."
The compassion and tenderness in
his voice and eyes smashed what was left of Rin's control.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Her laughter immediately turned to
sobs. Rin gasped and dropped down to
her knees. In an instant, Kohaku was
next to her with his arms around her.
She buried her face in his chest and cried harder.style="mso-spacerun: yes">
"Why does it always have
to hurt?"
