Prologue:
Jumping back quickly at the sound of splintering wood, and wiping the sweat from his brow as he watched the tree begin it slow descent to the earth. The woodcutter smiled happily with himself for this tree would sure bring a fine price from the craftsmen in the city, as the tree thumped heavily into the earth ,he caught a fleeting flash of white just beyond the now fallen tree. Gripping his axe tightly in caution, he moved toward the white, half curious a and half frightened as he made his way around the fallen tree and into the brush.
His lips cracked ito a smile as he looked on the thing he has sought, she was a small child of 12 or so with the most startling pure white hair. He licked his lips as he looked over the strange child not only was her hair white but everything about her seemed to lack any color at all from the blossom in her hair to her alabaster skin. Smiling as he moved quietly closer glad the child had her back to him .
* hmmm the child must be a princess lost surely there will be a reward for finding her. And if not perhaps I will take another reward from the child*
The girl turned just as he entered the clearing and looked up at him, her face looked sweet and innocent save her eyes with there deep blackness. Without thought he shudder and hiart art raced as his instincts told him to take flight, but sadly like most men he ignored his animals side and moved closer though with more caution “ his eyes flickering to a cloth the girl was holding and he wondered what it covered.
Hello child are you lost ?” Do you have a name child?” he smiled a gape toothed grin to try and reassure the girl or perhaps to reassure himself.
“ I am Kanna”
The girls voice made a shiver run down the woodcutters back and his hands gripped the axe tighter. The chilling monotone of the girls voice did not fit with the girls body .
Y..y..your not human”
The woodcutters heart pound as he realized he was standing before a disguised youki. Even as He began to turn to flee his eyes watch as the cloth fluttered from the mirror she had been holding and landed on the ground. In a heartbeat he felt himself sucked at as if by some great wind then a great silvery lake engulfed him in its oblivion.
Kanna watched as the mans soul slipped from its body a disappeared into her mirror, perhaps another youki might have smiled or laughed but not her she looked at it as a plant looks at the sun a source of nourishment and warmth. She moved to the tree and seated herself on the fallen trunk and gazed into her mirror searching as she had since the final battle of Naraku and Inuyasha. The sun had set before she looked up ,ending her search
.
“father where are you , are you truly dead?”
Her thoughts wandered over the battle and how she and Kagrua had managed to escape ,part of her wished she had died with Naraku. She was feeling lost a new experience to the youkli of nothingness. She even pondered on the fact that she was feeling anything. She realized that since the day she had been separafromfrom Naraku’s body she had purpose in her life and this was also new to her.
“what have you done father why have you made me so?” her soft voice whispered to the empty mirror
“ Now who shall give my life meaning, father?”
She turned back into the Mirror and then she smiled a odd sight if anyone had been there to see her beyond the soulless woodcutter. She looked on now at the camp of Inuyasha and his band her dark eyes studying them before she spoke again.
“ you are strong , I shall follow you and prove my devotion as I did with father”
Standing up she moved through the forest without a sound of her passing the woodcutter forgotten standing there without direction, like a childs toys forgotten after play.
