~~A game~~
The pale morning light drifted through the window as Kagome stirred slightly in her sleep. She curled herself into a ball under the covers and then yawned. She wasn’t ready to get up. Maybe just a few more hours... But she knew that she was never going to really fall back to sleep. Sighing she half rolled out of bed onto her still tired legs, and opened her window. Gods it was early. The earliest she had waken up in a long time. It seemed like the sun had just risen not more than 20 minutes ago. To prove her point there was one lone star still shining in the pale sky. She smiled and watched it until it finally disappeared. She couldn’t help but think someone else was doing the same thing somewhere. She giggled at the thought banishing it from her mind as she turned from her window and moved toward her closet. Sometimes she was such a hopeless romantic, and besides today was the day she returned to the sengoku no jidai, Sango-chan, Miroku-sama, and Inuyasha. ' I wonder what he’s up to now..if he’s even awake?'
Inuyasha slowly opened his golden eyes to see the sunlight slowly melting through the leaves and branches of the tree he was sleeping in. He sighed softly, looking up at the new morning sky, still pale. There was still one star twinkling in the distance and it seemed to burn so brightly in its small place in the sky. ' I wonder what she’ doing now...' The star seemed to remind him of Kagome now matter how much he denied it. It was so bright; it seemed like a lifeline somehow, just like Kagome. It was also so small but could stand out in such a huge place. Also like Kagome. She could stand out anywhere, with her beauty, intelligence, and personality. He yawned, his fangs glinting in the weak sunlight and then stretched slightly before jumping down off of his branch onto then ground below. Kagome was coming back today, and he thought he would go to the well and wait. As he always did when she went away. Whenever he missed her when she was away he would go to he well. ‘ Gods I’m soft in the morning..’ he thought to himself. Although he had to admit all of the revelations were safe in his mind. No one could find them there, and he could let them be known when he needed them to be. It was his choice after all right? He looked around before he set off to the well. As he ran down the path through the forest he smiled. Sometimes he loved this feeling, running fast through the chilly morning air, his hair blown out behind him like a sliver sheet. As the clearing holding the well came into view he started to slow himself down until he finally stopped. He walked over to the well and peered down into its black depths. The black depths that could send him 500 years forward in time and Kagome 500 years back in time. He shook his head, trying outwardly and inwardly to shake the almost impossible thought of it all from his mind. But he knew it was possible. He had used the well many times. He sighed and turned away, going to sit under the goshinboku tree. Before he lowered himself down onto the grass around its roots, he couldn’t help but look up at the small puncture in the tree. He winced at the thought. He had pinned there, right on that spot. For 50 years. Until Kagome had saved him. And he had almost killed her for it.
“ I’m leaving mom!!!!!!” yelled kagome as she hurried through the house quickly grabbing random objects and cramming them into her backpack. “ I don’t know when ill be back! “
“ All right dear! Take care! And tell that sweet young man I said hello!” came the rather cheerful reply from upstairs.
“ Bye mom!!” was Kagome's hurried answer as she ran out the front door. Her backpack seemed a whole lot lighter now that she had removed her math book. Although she couldn’t say much. She still had all her other books, not to mention some stupid things that’ she could have done without. She continued as fast as she could until she reached the shrine steps. Here she paused to catch her breath before she continued on her way down the stairs. As she took her time getting down the large amount of stairs an odd thought passed through her head. She had never bothered to count the steps before. She had already gone down about 20. She started from there. " 20, 21, 22, 23..." she giggled slightly as she continued. Finally at the bottom she paused once again this time because her legs and knees where killing her. " wow...... 112. That’s a lot.....of stairs." After saying this wat watched her breath fade into the chilly morning air. She was now very glad she hadn’t worn her school outfit today. Instead she had pulled out a long sleeved light blue sweater, and a pair of jeans. It felt sort of weird not wearing her uniform but she couldn’t help it. She would freeze. Once again she set off for the well house, which was now only a couple hundred yards away. She smiled as she reached its doors, and flung them open. Once inside she set her schoolbag down and closed the door behind her. Thanks to the cracks in the door, some light shone through into the dark and dusty well house, so it wasn't completely dark as she picked up her bag once again and jumped into the well. The familiar warm blue light she was so used to now enveloped her as it had done so many times before as she fell through time and space. 500 years into the past.....
Inuyasha's ear twitched slightly as a shock of blue light appeared and disappeared around the rim of the well. Kagome was back. He chuckled inwardly with amusement as he watched her climb out of the well. It seemed like it was taking up most of her energy just to get out of the damn thing. As she finally pulled herself and her backpack out of the well Inuyasha stood and walked over to her. " For once your on time wench."
Kagome smiled. " Don’t get used to it!" she teased back smiling. She was in a very good mood today, and she didn’t feel like hiding it.
Inuyasha just purposely stared at her blankly, folding his arms across his chest and blinking.
Kagome rolled her eyes. " You have such a sense of humor Inuyasha." she mumbled as she picked up her pack and started to walk towards the village.
" H-hey kagome!" he called after her, quickly removing his hands form across his chest a scrambling to catch up to her. Then an idea flashed through his mind and he smirked mischievously.
Kagome smiled inwardly, and closed her eyes fro a moment. She had left him standing there like an idiot. She was about to open her eyes when suddenly she was swept off the ground by Inuyasha and was being carried against his chest as he ran almost as fast as he could down the path. " inu-inuyasha!" she yelped surprised, a blush forming on her cheeks. She couldn’t focus on anything around her. It was all a blur. Although she could look up at him, and see his golden eyes flash with merriment as he shot her a triumphant smirk. Her heart seemed to melt with that smile. He rarely smiled but when he did, she always felt weak in the knees. who wouldn’t? But In a matter of seconds it seemed he was putting her down in the village and looking around for Miroku and Sango.
Inuyasha looked around for his other two friends, but was also just using this as just a distraction to hide his blush from Kagome. He had noticed her scent had changed when he had played his little trick if that is what you could call it. And her scent always affected him, no matter what mood she was in. Except when she was mad... but that even affected him slightly. Although not in a good matter. Finally he spotted Sango walking towards them, with Miroku following her.
" Sango-chan!" kagome called out happily
"Kagome-Chan!" the older girl replied just as enthusiastically. " Your back!"
Miroku soon came to stand next to Sango as he nodded to Kagome. " Its nice to see your back Kagome-sama" he said cheerfully as his hand wandered to Sango's backside.
~SLAP~ The sound seemed to echo in the cold morning air as Sango moved away from the monk, glaring at him as she did so.
Miroku winced slightly as he looked after her, a red handprint slowly but surely forming on the side of his face.
Inuyasha shook his head. It happened every tiMiroMiroku would grope her, sango would slap him, but not after her scent would spike to the slightly aroused side of things, and then she would walk away like nothing happened covering it all up. Inuyasha knew how they both felt. He had overheard many of Sango and Kagome's girl talks concerning Miroku, and he had talked to miroku about his feelings before. But due to continuous events it seemed that little more action was in order if the two were to reveal to the other how they felt.
Kagome glared at the monk as Sango moved over to her friend.
“ Come on lets go to Kaedes..uyasuyasha growled as he moved towards Kaede’s hut. The old woman had been away for a day or two and she had said she wasn’t going to be back for a week or so. They were asked to look after things while she was gone. Naturally Inuyasha had protested, but Kaede, kagome, sango and miroku had won in the end.
Kagome and Sango nodded and followed Inuyasha through the village to Kaedes hut, chatting idly, a silent Miroku behind them.
Miroku sighed inwardly. As of late ( lol! I have beenchinching too much lord of the rings this weekend! They said that sometime when fordo Sam Merry and Pippin are at the prancing pony! ß- madness @.@) he had been feeling worse and worse about groping her, and he just seemed to get more depressed every time she slapped him. He just wanted to be close to her. Tell her how he felt. But it seemed to scare him every time he even considered telling her. The thought of denial was always looming in his thoughts. And he couldn’t take much more of them. Every time he slapped her he got a bigger dose of it it seemed. Three month ago he could have dealt with it, but now it just seemed to be breaking him down more and more. And it scared him tndernder what reaching his breaking point would mean. Suddenly he was snapped out of his thoughts by the group reaching their destination. ( sounds like a video game. * in android voice* you have reached your destination)
Inuyasha slowly opened the door and walked inside, immediately sitting himself down in his favorite corner of the rather square room. Kagome walked in and also sat down, but randomly, Sango and Miroku following suit.
Miroku had slowly drifted back into his thoughts, thus becoming very.. out of it. To someone looking at him he looked to be sorrowful or sad.
“Houshi-sama? Are you all right?” asked Sango asked quietly.
Miroku shook his head slightly, snapping himself back to current matters. He silently decided her would think about it later. " Yes, yes I’m fine Sango-san." he answered, faking a smile.
Kagome looked at her friend, becoming slightly worried. He didn’t seem his normal self. He hadn’t been talking much, and he seemed to be very concerned with his thoughts. She also noticed his strained smile. ' I'll have to talk to him later...maybe something’s wrong..or has been wrong since I left that Inuyasha doesn’t know about.'
" How was your te-ists Kagome-Chan?" Sango, changing the subject.
" Tests," Kagome corrected almost without thinking. " I, as always, still think I have more studying to do. But they were defiantly better than last time." she said adding a bit more or a cheerful tone to her voice. ( ^-^ Weeeeeeeeeeeee!)
" Ts gos good." Miroku replied, once again faking a smile. 'Come on, they are gonna figure out sometime that something's up with you! At least try to act cheerful.' He sighed inwardly. It was like he didn’t much care at the moment, though he knew he had to make an effort. If he acted as bad as he felt he knew the others would ask him about it again, but this time expecting more of an answer. And he didn’t really want that. ( awwwwww poor depressed Miroku-kun ::huggles::)
~~ The day quickly passed, as the group pretty much relaxed, knowing there wasn’t going to be much to do until Keade came back. Soon, it was getting dark, and everyone in the village was receding to their homes~~ (...........::blink:: that was a little rushed, but I really didn’t want to think of anything at the moment..ill probably re write it later.... I like to do that don’t I ^-^;;)
Miroku sighed and started to head for the door of the hut. " I'm gona take a short walk..i'll be back before it gets extremely dark." he said, no real tone in his voice.
Kagome slowly stood up as well, deciding this was her best chance to talk to her friend. " Would you mind if I joined you Miroku?" asked Kagome.
Miroku shrugged. " Sure," he answered, and headed outside, Kagome behind him.
"You try anything monk, and you’ll deal with me later." they heard Inuyasha growl from inside as they started to walk away.
Kagome couldn’t help but laugh at this comment, though her mind soon turned to more serious matters. Miroku. " Miroku-sama..." she started slowly, looking over at him.
Miroku turned his head, as he turned to take the path into the forest, the one that lead to the well. " yes Kagome-sama?" he asked her.
"Earlier you said you were fine-.but are you sure? You seem like something is really wrong. What’s wrong?"
Miroku bit his lip, turning his gaze to the darkening sky. " Kagome..can I talk to you about something?" he asked quietly, rninrning his gaze to Kagome, knowing at this point in time there was no one better than her to talk about this to. He had already talked to Inuyasha about it a many a times, and he hadn’t gotten much advice out of him.
Kagome nodded.
"Well Kagome..its..sango-san.." he started quietly.
Kagome couldn’t help but smile at him. She had guessed that it may have something to do with her. But what could it be that made him act so depressed?
"I've, I've started to feel horribly whenever i..well you know.. and whenever she slaps me it seems to make me feel horrible, like a piece of me is taken away for some reason. And it’s breaking me down, piece by piece...and i'm afraid to see what is going to happen when I reach..reach the point where she’s broken me down entirely." He cast his eyes at the ground, not knowing what her reaction to this odd confession of feelings would be. ' She must think i’m mad or something...'
Kagome looked up at the man in pure amazement. ' He is becoming...quite dedicated to her...or it looks like it anyway,' she couldn’t help but think, was there a chance he would change his ways." Miroku-sama...you, you are becoming attached to her. You just want to be close to her." she answered. ' God..i sound like one of those physiatrist...where did all that come from?' Noticing that Miroku's gaze was directed to the ground and guessing it was because of shame she couldn’t help but add, " Miroku..you shouldn't be ashamed about it, it’s only the way things are..."
Miiroku scuffed the ground slightly with his foot before replying to her little bit of wisdom. " But Kagome..I don’t know what i’m going to do! I'm getting attached to her, but for what reason! She'll never return that feelings I have for her! And..And ill never be able to push these feelings away!"
Kagome smiled. She could tell him how Sango felt in return, but she felt that would be like cheating. She then firmly decided she would let Sango do that on her won. She also decided that she would have a little talk with Inuyasha. She had a feeling she could help her with this little 'game'. And she had a feeling that was exactly what it was going to be. " Miroku, I wouldn’t dwell on it now. Just forget about it for a little while. I promise we can talk about it later alright>" she asked looking over at him and offering him a reassuring and friendly smile.
Miroku couldn’t help but smile back and nod at her. She was right. What was the use of dwelling on it now? There waslly lly no purpose in it. and if she said she would talk again with him, then that would make him feel a bit better. For the time being anyway.
A/N: WHOOT! There it is, one chapter down. No clue how many more to go! Well hope you enjoyed it! Please oh please please read and review! Thankies and on with the story!!!
