Chapter One: Storm
It blasted its icy winds across the land. An unnatural ice storm, beautiful
but deadly in its ferocity. It had come upon the forested countryside so quickly
that many barely had enough time to run for shelter.
Sesshoumaru looked up to the bleak sky above which was a mix of gray and white,
blotting out everything in a void of cold, wet sleet and feezing snow.
This was not a natural storm. Oh no, a youkai was behind this. A very powerful
one.
But he really had no time to ponder over the unusual turn of weather. He needed to
get Rin and leave for his estate as her weak human body would surely freeze in this
blistering cold wind.
The dog demon turned around to pick up his ward who had been following
close behind him. He could barely see through the thick downpour of snow that
pounded the very air but what he did see nearly made his heart stop. His ward
was not there. He looked down to her ghostly tracks that were rapidly fading with the
rising drifts of powdery white.
Trying his best to follow the disappearing tracks,
he sloshed in the cold muck which had now begun to creep up to his knees.
The inu youkai sniffed, reaching for her scent but the storm stole it away.
He stopped, letting one word escape his lips in a whisper before shouting
it into the white haze that surrounded him.
The storm ate the word, drowning it with a roaring icy gale.
Sesshoumaru whispered the name again, a useless gesture against his rising
apprehension, "Rin."

It had caught her off guard. Her feather fluttered violently in the icy gale that
blasted all around. Dark clouds let loose a torrent of sleet and snow.
The storm blacked out the sky, the land, the air. She could barely see anything.
The downpour weighted down the white feather she was riding, causing it
to tremble and descend quickly.
Kagura cursed her bad luck. She had been heading to get another jewel shard for
Naraku. If her task could not be completed, the damn bastard would squeeze her
heart until she screamed for mercy. Kagura grimaced. She hated him with a passion.
The heartless hanyou held her life in the palm of his hand. Using his
insurance to make her do his dirty work. She could tell he enjoyed making her
grovel at his feet. Bastard.
Lower, she fell, dropping from the darkening
sky. The unnatural wind tumbling her back and forth as the
thick, heavy snow and ice dropped her to the ground.
Landing in a pile of powdery white, Kagura reduced the feather she had been
riding and placed it back in her hair. Shivering, the wind user cursed while
wrapping both arms around her body. No, this storm would not get the best of her.
She was an elemental demon, a wind user. This pitiful excuse for an early
winter storm was no match for her powers. Flipping out her fan,
she raised it above her head then brought it down in one single arc, directing
the clash of wind to the sky, trying to force the storm to its knees.
But the cutting shards of ice and stabbing gusts of wind did not heed
her call. Instead, the storm only increased in intensity, blowing
a thickening cold blanket to encircle and anchor her to the forest floor.
Kagura sighed and folded her fan. She would have to walk. But in what
direction she had no idea for the white surrounding her stole all
land marks from her view. She would be walking blind.

Rin huddled in the cold darkness, shivering. When the snow had
started falling, she had walked a few steps away from her Sesshoumaru-sama
to pick a small flower before the tiny flakes covered it.
When she looked back, her Sesshoumaru-sama had vanished. A wall of
white snow barred her way. Then a sudden howling
gust of wind pushed her, causing her to tumble down a steep hill. It
happened so fast, she forgot to scream. When she found her voice, she called
out for him but her yell died in the storm's raging gale.
By that time, the snow was so thick she could not see anything at all.
It was only by some miracle that she stumbled through the thick wet snow
and tripped, falling into a rock cave.
A tear fell from her eye and dropped to the rocky floor, freezing instantly into
a glittering bead of ice.
Her bottom lip trembled. A warm whisper fell from her quivering
lips, misting into cold, cloudy puffs. "Sesshoumaru-sama, please find me."
