Returning To You

Chapter Eight


Kagome ran along the pavement, sirens could be heard in the distance. "I was right, the sky is falling." She pointed to the sky. A black mist covered the whole area, starting to block out most of the sun. So far they hadn't run into anything. They were in town also, maybe it had been a hoax. But that didn't explain the sky or the weather.

A scream was heard and the girl's took off towards the sound. A woman was in her car, a large creature was sitting pounding on the hood. The tires popped as it beat on the car. Sango threw her weapon, tearing the creature in half. The top half landed on the car. Kagome sighed in relief, so much for it being a hoax.

She ran to the car door, "Sango behind you." Another one of the creatures came running down the street aiming right for the car. They appeared to be eight feet tall, resembling walking lizards but black in color. It was looking at the woman sitting in the car.

Sango released her weapon again, killing it. "They don't seem to be too smart."

Kagome opened the door and talked to the woman inside. "Are you okay? Why are they after you?"

She nodded her head, "I'm fine. What's going on? I was heading home when that thing jumped me. I got here and no one was here so I decided to go home."

"We aren't sure, maybe you should come with us until we can get you somewhere safe." Kagome extended her hand, the lady took it. She looked to be in her early fourties. "I'm Kagome, that is Sango."

"Shiori on the account of the situation." The older lady got out the car grabbing her purse.

A few more lizards came running down the street going for the woman. Sango saw them coming. "Kagome it's her. I'll take care of them, keep her safe."

"Right." Kagome knew Sango would be able to handle them.

The taijiya tore through the creatures easily. "Let's get her out of here. Stay behind me."


"What the hell is going on? Where are they coming from?" Yusuke punched another one of the creatures coming for him. Keiko was standing behind him. At seeing the drastic weather change and the sky, the two had decided to head to Kurama's to consult the fox. Yusuke couldn't get in touch with anyone from spirit world.

He grabbed the girl, they made it to Kurama's apartment and banged on the door. It was only a little after seven a.m., a sleepy eyed Kurama answered the door.

"Yusuke?"

"Where the hell have you been. Where's Hiei?"

"Right here if you must know, trying to sleep." The fire youkai yawned.

"Are you serious, don't you two have any idea what is going on outside?" Yusuke grabbed the fox's shirt hauling him outside. "Look up."

Kurama looked into the sky, "What is that?"

"That's what we'd like to know. To make matter's worse there's creatures attacking the whole damn city. They are looking for something, or someone."

"Hn. Seems we have another problem. Have you heard from Koenma?" Kurama asked.

"No, I can't even find Botan." The harsh ring of the phone interrupted them. The fox walked over and snatched up the reciever. "Hello." He got a fallen look on his face. He dropped the phone, "My mother went to work, my stepfather can't get in touch with her. She's out there somewhere."

"Let's go." Hiei stepped outside. He tried to locate the woman for the fox. "She's alive but I can't pin her down, something is interfering."

Kagome released the arrow, hitting the creature in the chest. It exploded as it landed. Sango was cutting through them as they ran. The woman stood beside her, trying not to panic. There was no doubt they seemed to be coming after the woman.

"Where to Kagome?"

"Can you take me to my son? He lives near here, please. I'd feel safe with him." Shiori asked.

Sango launched the weapon again, taking the few coming at them out. "Which way?"

"Right at this corner."

They took the right, Kagome had ahold of the woman's hand the whole way.

Kurama cut through the lizards, landing next to Hiei. "What are they doing here?"

"My guess it has something to do with the black sky." The little man commented.

"That's not what I meant Hiei." He lashed out at another creature. He pulled his whip up short. "Look up there." There was a large lizard type creature with wings hovering near, he turned around and glared.

"Kill Shiori."

Hiei and Kurama both gasped as they heard it speak. "Mother." The lizard took off down the street. They took off after it.

Kagome screamed when she saw the large thing coming for them. "Sango up there." It flew past Sango's head and made a dive at the older woman. Kagome shoved her down, placing a barrier over both of them. The talons on its feet hit the barrier it came up smoking.

It screeched and flew off the way it came. It stopped down the road, when it saw the two men coming for him. He only had one more chance to kill the woman. It turned around and took off, it picked up speed.

Sango knew that it planned on hitting the barrier full force hoping to knock the women over. Time to clip it's wings. "Hiriakotsu," She threw the large weapon, she watched as it ripped through the wings. The creature fell to the ground full force.

Both men stopped when they heard the yell and saw the creature fall to the ground. The large weapon turned around, back towards the girl standing down the street. She caught the weapon with ease.

Sango watched the creature get up, his eyes to the woman. He charged the two women, Sango called out. "Don't drop it Kagome."

She nodded. Her aura flared making the barrier stronger, she held onto the woman. "Don't worry, it can't touch us."

Sango jumped in front of the thing as it charged them, it's claws raked across Hiraikotsu. It knocked the large weapon aside, it was stronger than the other's had been. The taijiya blocked it's next attack with her sword. "Kagome, shot the damn thing."

She shoved the woman behind her and notched an arrow. "On the count of three. One, Two, Three." Sango hit the ground rolling away. The creature smiled thinking the girl had given up. It turned in time to see the arrow flying at his face. It hit him between the eyes. The head exploded on impact.

Sango went for her weapon when she sensed the two auras. She had the weapon over her shoulder ready to launch it.

Shiori called out, "Don't that's my son." She ran forward and threw her arms around the red head.

"Sango behind you." As Kagome called out the girl was already releasing her weapon. Dozens of the lizards were coming down the street almost like a parade.

"Kagome, do it." Sango grabbed the weapon on it's return.

"Right, you two might want to stand back." She stood in front of everyone and notched an arrow. 'Please let this work.' She focused her energy into the shot, hoping it would be enough to take them all out. It burst into a bright pink light as soon as it left her hand, it grew as it traveled. It hit the one in middle of the front line. It exploded into a bright ball of energy, taking them all out. It was like watching firecrackers going off. As soon as one blew up the energy would hit the next causing it to have the same reaction. "Ha, got em."

"Mother are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm fine thanks to these two girls."

Kurama couldn't stop his gasp when he finally stopped to take a good look at the two girls.
