Caught in the Snow

Chapter 8

All's well that ends well



The next morning was the first time she opened her eyes again. She was still lying against InuYasha. His head was close to her own and she placed a kiss on his cheek. He opened his eyes and looked right into hers. She was still very weak but it wasn’t as live threatening as before. He pulled her close up to him, and just sat there with her in his protective arms. It felt good to her and she didn’t move she just lay against him. The others woke up too, they knew something was different but they couldn’t see if it was for the good or the bad. InuYasha looked up with little lights of relieve in his eyes. He released her a little, but she stayed close to him, he was so nice and warm.



“Kagome-sama you’re awake. Is everything okay?” Miroku asked her.

“I’m sorry I left you and Shippo here all by your own.” InuYasha said with remorseful eyes.

“I’m just glad you came back… InuYasha?”

“Hai?”

“Here look I have the Shikon shards.”

“How did you get those?” InuYasha asked in surprise.

“I woke up when he dropped me, after you gave him that final blow. And I saw a chance to grab them.” She proudly replied.

“You silly girl.” InuYasha said, with a compassion they weren’t used from him. “I’ll get you home don’t worry.”



With the storm now laying it was easy to get of the mountain. InuYasha hurried to the well and jumped in. He staid at Kagome’s side the days she had to stay in bed. One day she got a visit from her school friends. They where happy to see her. After all this was the first time her grandfather had allowed them to go see her when she was sick. They said that Houjo had said he wanted to visit her too, so he would be soon at her door. InuYasha, who hid in Kagome’s closet (he didn’t want to be seen), heard that and as soon as he could get out he asked her who that Houjo guy was.



“Don’t worry he’s just a guy I know from school, nothing you should be afraid of.”

“Me afraid of a simple human boy, keh. In your dreams”

“I don’t mean you should be literally scared of him. I’m just saying he isn’t a competition for you.”

“Yeah, yeah.” InuYasha still didn't look convinced of the guy's intentions.

“Well stop muttering then. You know I would like to get out of bed.”

“What? No way that doctor men said you had to stay in there it’s warm.”

“Well if you give me my dressing-gown I’ll be warm enough.” Kagome stubbornly said.



She tried to stand up but got pushed back to bed again by InuYasha. He didn’t want her to get up. While they were fighting Houjo walked in.



“Kagome-chan are you alright. Is this boy annoying you?” Houjo stood in the doorway but ready to pull InuYasha back.

“No no, it’s okay.” Caught by surprise she almost fell to the ground, but InuYasha was right in time to catch her. “Ehh, Hi Houjo-kun, ehh this is, ehh InuYasha and ehh.”

“What are you doing here?” InuYasha asked the surprised Houjo.

“I’m visiting Kagome-chan, are you her brother?” Houjo answered politely.

“Keh, if you need me, I’m going for a walk.”

“Okay but don’t stay away too long, okay?" She asked him as he walked through the doorway stomping Houjo out of the doorway with his shoulder.



“Sorry for his behaviour. He doesn’t feel so good.” Kagome apologized

“Oh it’s okay this is your house. How are you feeling?”



After Houjo went home, InuYasha re-appeared. He got into the room through the window and walked into the room. He sat down at the edge of Kagome’s bed. “So who was that Houjo guy?” he asked curiously.

“Oh, he’s just a guy from school. I told you he’s nothing for you to worry about.

Hatchi! She sneezed. “Oh gomen.”

“You’re sure? Why does ‘just a boy’ come all the way here to see you?” InuYasha questioned Kagome.

“Well probably because he wants to wish me well.”

“Feh, whatever.”

“InuYasha?”

“Hai.”

“Can I get up now?”

“Hmm?” InuYasha looked at her.

“Well I’m really tired from laying down all this time. And it’s beautiful weather outside. Can’t we just go for a little walk? Please?”

“You’re sure you can do that?” InuYasha asked still concerned for Kagome’s health.

“If you come with me I’m sure I’ll be ok. I just have to ask my mother or... can you do that for me?” She looked up to him sweetly.

“Oh, ok.” And he went down to ask.



It was ok so they took a little walk around the old shrine area. Kagome was still a little weak so she leaned against InuYasha while walking. He didn’t mind as long as she was happy.



“InuYasha?”

“Hmm, what’s wrong?”

“Uhm, nothing.”

InuYasha looked down to her. She looked troubled, was something wrong with her? Or was it just his imagination because he worried so much about her. He still did even though she was feeling much better. The doctor gave her something against the fever and told them that she had to drink enough, because all the sweating of the fever could make her dry out. He never thought of that, was that what she wanted to say, that he did wrong? But he didn’t know he did his best didn’t he? It wouldn’t be fare.



“Arigato.”

*Huh* Kagome got him out of his thinking. “For what?” He looked at her not really understanding what she had just said to him.

“For taking care of me when I was sick and for saving me from that Youkai. Without you I wouldn’t be here.” Kagome looked at the ground.

“You’re welcome. I was just glad that I could help you.”

“Can we go through the well? Please.”

“Huh?” He looked up. “You want to go back already? Well sorry but you can’t you’re still way to weak for that.”

“No, I just want to walk there. It’s so beautiful there and so peaceful, more than here at least.”

“Oh, ok. But not to long.”

“Arigato InuYasha.”



They walked over to the well. InuYasha picked Kagome of the ground and with her in his arms he jumped down. On the other side it was just like Kagome said, quite and peaceful. Miroku, Shippo and Sango where in the village of Kaede. They would re-assemble there when Kagome was recovered.



When they walked a while InuYasha slowed down.

“Just tell me what’s wrong.” He started calmly.

“Nothing! I already told you. Now leave me alone ok?”

“But what’s with that look on your face?” InuYasha tried again.

“What look? I don’t have a look at my face.” She yelled back.

While they where fighting InuYasha had let go of his grip on Kagome and just when she wanted to walk away her legs gave in and she was about to fall. InuYasha still trying to stay calm caught her just in time.



“Let me go!!” Kagome, now really angry because she looked stupid, yelled.

“No I won’t let you go. Not until you tell me what’s wrong.” He sat down at the foot of a tree. Kagome didn’t speak but struggled to get free. It was no use because was still very weak and InuYasha had control.



InuYasha hold her tight so she couldn’t get away, not that stopping her would be to difficult. But he also liked to have her close to him.



“Why can’t you just let me go?” Kagome looked sad.

“Because I want to know what’s wrong.”

”Nothing’s wrong. It’s just...” She fell silent. Tears rolled down her cheeks. InuYasha got her closer to him. He felt sorry for her and he didn’t want to be like this. He just had to know. It would be better if she just told it. Told him that he had screwed up. And that she didn’t want to have to do with him anymore.

“Gomen, I didn’t want to make you cry it’s just...” Now he fell silent as well.



“I want to know because I care for you. Don’t you know that?” InuYasha was the first to start again.

“You really do?” She looked up with wet eyes.

“Of course, I thought you knew that.”

“But why are you so silent since we’re back in my time.” She sniffled.

“Because I wanted you to get better, so I thought it was better not to speak to much.” He explained. “I wasn’t sure what to do because that doctor said you needed lots of rest. And I didn’t want to screw up again.”

“Screw up? What are you talking about?”

“Well the doctor said you needed to drink because you could dry out. He even putted a needle in your arm.” InuYasha looked remorseful.

“You where worried about that?”

“Hai.” He looked uncomfortable.

“But you couldn’t have known. It’s like you said the only one you looked ever after was yourself and you know what your body needs.” There was a small smile on her face. It was good to see that again.



“But why where you so sad.” InuYasha now asked.

“Ehm, I thought... no... never mind. It was something silly.”

“No, I want to know. Please tell me maybe I can help.” InuYasha looked at her

“But...It’s just that I thought you didn’t like me anymore. I mean I wasn’t exactly nice when I was sick.” Kagome blushed *Why did I told him that? Now he’s going to say that I’m right and that he just staid with me because I was sick*

“What can you remember of what happened in that little hut?”

“Huh, well not that much it’s all a little vague. I probably dreamed much of it.” She turned red again thinking of the dream she had about his love confession.

“You mean when I told you I was in love with you?”

*Huh how could he know, was I speaking in my dreams Oh no!!* Kagome started to panic.

“Well that wasn’t a dream. I really love you and I told you that when you where awake.” He looked to his side where Kagome was now sitting with a shock on her face.

“Really?”



He could tell from the looks in her eyes that she didn’t believe him. So he bend down and kissed her. He kissed her like never before. At first she was trying to push him back but it was no use, he wasn’t about to stop. So she gave in and kissed him back.

When they finally stopped InuYasha pulled her closer to him so she would lie against him. He stroked her hair and smelled her scent.



“You really smell good.”

“You thought different about that before. You...”

“I know what I said and I told you before, it was a lie.” He interrupted her.

“..InuYasha?..”

“Hmm?”

“What about you and...” She started but she didn’t know how to finish, she didn’t want to say that name. The name of Kikyo.

“I don’t know to be really honest.” InuYasha looked up at the sky. “I don’t want you to think that you’re a substitute.” Kagome was surprised by his honesty. “I love you because of who you are. You dare to live, while Kikyo, well she couldn’t live. That was because she had to protect the Shikon no Tama. But I just want you to know that you’re different. She was a hard person hard for herself and for others. Maybe she would have changed if we had used the Shikon but we will never know.” He ended his prologue.



“Gomen I started about it. I just thought about her and...”

“It’s ok. We would have got to that subject sooner or later. So why not now.” InuYasha relieved her of her concern. “We just have to wait and see what happens.”

“Uh not between you and me I mean, just what happens with Kikyo.” He quickly added. “I really love you, and as hard it is for me to say but Kikyo is dead. But I just don’t want to abandon her you see. I want to help her to get peace and we have to defeat Naraku for that. But that’s of later concern.” He looked at Kagome as he bend in to kiss her again.

So that's it people Kagome is better and she and InuYasha confessed their love! Yay!

This was really fun to write and I'm glad you all seem to like it :3
