When the worlds collide

Chapter 8



"Let...her...go..." breathed Inuyasha, flexing his claws again to put emphasis on what would happen if the two police officers didn't comply with his request.



"This girl is in police custody. You would be wise to let us proceed on our way." replied Lieutenant Sakanami, pulling his gun free of his holster now. With a flick of a finger, he released the safety, although he did not yet aim the nine millimeter Beretta at Inuyasha.



"Inuyasha...don't..." said Kagome, concern flooding her eyes as she watched the standoff from behind the Lieutenant, the deputy still holding onto her sore arm with a tight grip.



"Last warning." said Inuyasha, a little more redness coloring his normally white and gold eyes. He began to walk forward, torwards the police officer.



"One step closer, and I'll be forced to fire." Sakanami almost yelled, now aiming the Beretta straight at Inuyasha. The hanyou did not stop, but continued straight torwards the police officer. Sakanami let him approach to within five feet, then let Inuyasha have it.



"Noooo!" yelled Kagome, and she tried to lunge forward as the Lieutenant opened fire with his pistol, the noise defeaning in the enclosed space of the parking garage. Deputy Saji though roughly pulled her back and with a quick kick of his leg knocked Kagome's feet out from under her, and proceeded to pin her to the ground.



The first bullet hit Inuyasha in the chest, stopping him dead in his tracks. To his suprise, the thing penetrated his firerat robe, and lodged into his chest, next to his heart. The next two bullets also hit him in the chest, one piercing his lungs, the other cracking a rib. The fourth bullet hit his left arm, lodging painfully in the elbow socket. The fifth and last bullet the Lieutenant fired sailed past Inuyasha's head, nicking one of his dog ears, as the hanyou collapsed to his knees in suprise and pain.



"Inuyasha..." Kagome sobbed pitifully, tears staining her eyes as she looked at her beloved. As she watched, he telescoped forwards into the ground and lay there, blood spreading out from his lifeless body.



"Damn fool." said Sakanami, his voice heavy with regret. He lowered his pistol and re-engaged the safety, since it still had two bullets left in the magazine. The Lieutenant turned around headed back torwards the hospital.



"You stay here and keep an eye on the kid, I'll go get some paramedics to help him." said Sakanami, although he knew that the kid, Inuyasha was his name?, must surely be dead by now, judging by the blood flow on the ground and how many times he had been hit in the chest.



"You aren't going anywhere..." came the kid's voice from behind him. Sakanami heard Deputy Saji and Kagome both gasp, and turned around to see what was going on.



The boy had risen from the ground, his hair whipping about his face as a mysterious breeze had somehow entered into the garage. As the wind blew over Sakanami, he shivered as he thought how cold it was, which was unusual for a summer day.



"Don't move dammit, your too heavily injured. Just stay there, and I'll go get help." said Sakanami, starting to turn away, when the Lieutenant saw his eyes, and he gasped as a chill ran up his spine.



The boy's eyes were no longer white and gold. Now they were totally red, with dark blue pupils. He also had strange stripes on his face, purple in color, where none had been before.



"Feh." said the boy, before leaping forward with startling speed. The Lieutenant quickly drew his pistol again, but it was too late.



The hanyou was upon him before he could level the pistol at Inuyasha and flick the safety off. With a single swipe of his claws, the now fully transformed demon sliced through Lieutenant Sakanami's kevlar body armour and pierced the skin on his chest, leaving three shallow gouges running across it. With a gasp the officer flew through the air before landing on the concrete, gasping in suprise and pain.



"Officer down, officer down, first floor parking garage Tokyo general hospital..." came the voice from behind Inuyasha. The demon turned to see the other officer rapidly speaking into his radio, still pinning Kagome to the ground with one of his knees.



"Inuyasha..." Kagome breathed, afriad of what he was going to do next.



Deputy Saji was fumbling to retrieve the pistol from his holster with one hand as he talked into his radio with the other hand and continued to pin Kagome to the ground. Inuyasha smiled at him, the upturning of the lips seeming in no way to be a sign of happiness, just pure pleasure of what he was about to do. With a single leap, the demon landed right next to the deputy.



Saji looked up into the eyes of death himself, and gulped, just as Inuyasha beheaded the deputy with a single swipe of the claws. Kagome's eyes grew round as his head bounced onto the concrete a few feet away, his eyes wide open in suprise. The torso collapsed to the ground next to free, freeing her from it's restraints. She rolled to her left, getting away from the body and expanding pool of blood around it, gagging in an attempt to prevent from throwing up.



"Nooo! SAJI!" yelled Sakanami, the Lieutenant propping himself up on one elbow with his other hand covering his chest wounds. A wailing sound filled the air as other police cars approached the parking garage at full speed.



"You need to go." said Kagome, looking up at Inuyasha. He looked down at her, and a little of the red color faded from his eyes. He shook his head.



"No. We go...together." he said slowly, before picking her up into his arms. He ran, then jumped into the air, clearing out of the parking garage just ahead of the police cars.



Lieutenant Sakanami stared after them, tears staining his eyes, although they contained only the look of pure hatred.

Inuyasha continued to leap through the air, hopping from building to building, and for the most part Kagome clutched onto him tightly. When he had first transformed, she had been in too much pain to use the "sit" command to subdue his demon state, and now she didn't do it out of the fear of the fall that would ensue, to her death if not his too.



Finally, they arrived at the shrine. Grandpa was sitting outside, smoking a hookah pipe, his eyes scrunched in thought. Kagome glanced over to see him sitting there, and yelled out to him.



"Grandpa! Tell mom Inuyasha is taking me back to the past." said Kagome. At least, she's pretty sure that that is where Inuyasha was taking her. He looked up suprise, to see the hanyou carrying her, then nodded his head in affirmation. Setting down his pipe, he walked in the direction of the house.



The hanyou tore apart the doors to the wellhouse rather than opening them, then jumped down into the well with a single bound. With a flash of light, they were back in the Feudel era of Japan, and the half demon leaped clear out the well, before taking off running into the forest, Kagome still clutching tightly to him.



He wasn't running in the direction of the village, that much was certain. Soon they came to a creek, and he switched paths, running up the creek torwards a mountian. Kagome wondered where they were headed to, and was about to ask him, when she heard the sounds of a waterfall. Soon she saw it up ahead, a cascading waterfall some fifty feet high.



She gasped when he jumped straight into the waterfall, warm water splashing over the both of them, slightly soaking her and him. They had emerged into a cave, and at this point, Inuyasha finally set her down.



He did not release her though, and leaned down to sit next to her. She finally looked up into his eyes again, gasping as she noticed that they had changed from their usual red color of a transformed demon into eyes she had never seen before. His pupils were still blue, but now they were surrounded by orange color rather than red color.



"Inuyas..." she started to tell him to sit, and she was afraid of this new Inuyasha, but before she could continue, he leaned over and kissed her, softly on the lips, taking advantage of her speaking to let his tongue enter into her mouth. Her eyes opened wide, before she returned the kiss, hesitantly at first, slowly closing her eyes as her fear was replaced, again slowly, by her love and acceptance of him.



When he broke away, she gasped in a lungful of air, and opened her eyes. His eyes were still orange, and he gently laid her back onto the cave floor, crawling over to a position where he was on top of her. She blushed slightly, then gaped when she realized what was going on. The orangeness in his eyes must of meant desire, while the rendess meant killing.



Was he going to make love to her on the cave floor? Her cheeks flushed scarlet at this thought, then she remembered the 'incident' that had occured earlier in the day, and another sudden fear entered into her. She didn't want another man inside of her, and she began crying.



"Inuyasha, please...don't..." she whimpered as tears began to run down her throat.



As he looked down at her, the orangeness from his eyes faded, leaving them his normal white color, and his blue eyes also disappeared, leaving them gold.



"Kagome..." he said, before hugging her in a tight embrace. Tears leaked from his own eyes, tears of joy of finding her still alive, and she was now safe within his own arms. Together the two of them continued to cry into the night, before eventually falling asleep.

"Telephone call for Miss Higurashi." said the receptionist at the desk. Miss Suji walked over to her and took the phone, recognzing the voice of her father as soon as he started speaking.



"I saw Inuyasha carrying Kagome a moment ago. She said to tell you that Inuyasha was taking her back into the Feudal era." said Grandpa.



"Well that can't be, Kagome was taken into custody by the police a few minutes ago." replied Miss Suji, suprise in her voice.



"The girl I saw being carried by Inuyasha was definitly Kagome." responded grandpa, his voice firm.



"But..." started Miss Higurashi again, before the elevator chimed and several nurses rushed through, pushing a gourney into the waiting area. Miss Higurashi looked over, and gasped when she saw Lieutenant Sakanami on the stretcher, an oxygen mask on his face, with one of the nurse's holding a towel stained in blood on his chest.



"Is something wrong?" asked Grandpa.



"It appears that Inuyasha assaulted the police officers that took Kagome into custody. They just wheeled one of them through here on the way to the emergency room." said Miss Higurashi, worry and a little bit of fear in her voice now.



"Hmm this is not good. You should come back home." replied Grandpa after a moment of thought.



"I can't leave. How would that look? I'm going to stay by this officer's side until he awakens. It's the proper thing to do." said Miss Higurashi, her voice firm.



"Perchance did you see his partner?" asked Grandpa.



"No, no sign of him." said Suji. At this moment, several other officers entered into the waiting room, and some of them started pacing while others took seats.



"Okay, well if you need me you know where to find me." said grandpa, before hanging up.



"Yes...I do..." she said into the dead phone, before handing it back to the receptionist.



Sighing, she walked back to the waiting room and sat down, in between two officers. She placed a hand over her eyes, and only then did she start to weep, silently doing so.
