Strange Happenings
Chapter Seven
The night was cold and frigid as Kagome and Sango huddled under the covers staring at the television set. They were watching some type of action movie. Even with the cental heat going it was still cold. Which was odd for this time of year. There was no snow outside but the temperature was freezing.
Souta was snoring softly on the couch, he'd fallen asleep about an hour ago. He had two blankets on him, one eletric. Kagome took a sip of her hot chocolate. "I hate when that happens. They're going to kill the cute one."
"Spare me. When someone is trying to kill you they don't care how you look."
"That's not the point, they always kill the cute guy off on these movies. Why not let the ugly cop get cut in half." Kagome sipped on the hot liquid.
"You're horrible."
"Yeah, I know. I hope it warms up so we can go out tomorrow. I'm tired of being stuck in this house. It's been a month since we've gone anywhere." She placed the cup down.
"Don't remind me. I swore that day I'd never go anywhere else with you and I meant it." Sango grabbed her own cup, holding it between her hands.
"So who was it?" Kagome asked again. She asked everyday, the same question over and over again.
"You are relentless you know. Fine, it was a fox youkai. Don't ask me his name, I never got it. He was only there for a bit, I saved his life, helped him get better that is all." She blushed giving herself away.
"Spill." Kagome squirmed waiting to hear the good part.
"Okay, he kissed me once. He left early that morning I was attacked."
"So you have no idea what happened to him?" Kagome sighed, she'd been hoping for more.
"No, more than likely the ones that attacked me found him also." Sango didn't want to think that he had died that day. "But now you know."
"What was the kiss like?"
"Jeez. It was alright."
Kagome looked disappointed at that. "Just alright, must have been something better than alright. Since you are keeping that little paper with you."
"It has sentimental value for me okay."
"Sure it does, bet he made your toes curl." Kagome leapt up and ran into the kitchen to fix another cup of hot chocolate. Sango was right behind her.
"This weather isn't natural." Kurama was looking out his living room window, Hiei was planted in front of the fire. "Something is about to happen I can sense it."
"Why worry about it. Let it happen."
"Yes, I guess you are right." He took a seat on his couch and looked around. His eyes landed on the painting he'd decided to place above his fireplace. He wondered about the odds of running into a girl that reminded him so much of her the same he'd bought a painting that reminded him of her. Was it coincedence or fate? He really didn't believe in fate. So it had to just be a fluke, one of those strange things that happen. Yet she had been the spitting image of the dead girl, exactly like the day he had left her. Part of him wondered what would have happened if he hadn't left that morning.
He had seen to the revenge of her death. The wolf had died in enough pain to accompany him to hell and back. He should have been there that day, she died because she had helped him.
"Snap out of it." Hiei barked at him.
"Sorry, was thinking. I'm going to head to bed now. I'll see you in the morning." He got up giving the painting one last look.
Kagome shoved the covers off her, why was she so hot? She got up off the floor and looked around. Sango was still sleeping beside her, her covers were discarded on the floor beside her. Kagome stood up, it was hot in the house. Her mother was in the kitchen already.
"Morning mom."
"Morning dear, shhh we are listening to the radio." She waved her hands signalling for her to hush.
The announcer spoke, "Just in the temp is now at sixty-five degrees. It rose over fourty degrees in a matter of three hours. Local scientest are baffled at the dramatic change in the temperature. Stay tuned for more updates."
"No wonder I woke up hot. What's going on?" Kagome sat down at the table reaching for a muffin. She took a bite waiting for her mother to answer.
"They don't know, its weird."
"What is?" Sango stretched as she came inside to sit next to the miko. "Why is it so hot in here?"
"The heater is still on and its a lot warmer outside. Probably feels nice outside but the sky is probably falling." Kagome laughed.
"That's not funny girl. This is serious. With this happening I can guarantee evil spirits are at work." Grandpa slammed his hand down on the table.
"Shhh, another broadcast."
Kagome watched her mom turn the volume up. The announcer came back on, "This just in. There are reports of strange creatures roaming the streets. This is not a hoax. Local authorities are being sent to the scene as we speak. We advice everyone to stay in doors until this crisis has been taken care of. Wait, I'm being handed something. People are being attacked, stay inside for your own safety." The station went dead.
"Was that a show?" Sango asked.
"No, that was a broadcast. I wonder what's happening?" Kagome stood up making a decision. "I'm going out. Sango?"
"You mean the city is really being attacked?"
"Yes, lets go check it out." Kagome ran upstairs to change.
Gramps stood up, "You two aren't going anywhere. You heard the man it's dangerous out there. I will go, I'm a trained priest."
Sango followed Kagome up the stairs. She saw Kagome changing into pants and a tight sweater. If she was going to fight there was only one thing she was going to wear. She grabbed her old garment out the closet where it hung. Hiriakotsu was shoved back in the corner. The outfit went on along with her weapons. She placed the locket inside, it landed in between her breasts.
"Ready?" Kagome grabbed her bow. "Wow, its nice seeing you like that again."
"Yeah, now change into some miko robes."
"I don't think so."
