Chapter Eight

3:26am

Rin stared at the clock. The walls were thick, but not that thick. Why did she insist on having the room next to her mother’s? She rolled out of bed and went downstairs. There was a glow coming from the living room. Going in she saw Yura sitting on the couch, the remote in her hand clicking through channels.

“They woke up too,” Yura said without looking at her.

“Yeah,” she took a seat at the opposite end of the couch.

“I don’t know about you, but their constant humping is getting on my nerves.”

“I thought you were okay with it.”

“Not when it’s messing with my beauty sleep.”

“Funny,” I thought it was your lullaby.” That was very sarcastic of her, Rin thought.

“Nice come back little sis.”

This was different they were bonding or at least getting along. But why were Naraku and Yura staying the night? They were staying over a lot lately. Yura continue to flip through the channels.

“What are you looking for,” she asked.

“The only thing that comes on this time of day.”

Rin’s eyes widen when Yura finally settle on a channel, “Porn!” she slapped her hands over her eyes. “Turn. Turn!”

“You’re gonna have to learn about this one day.”

“Not today I don’t!”

Tuesday Morning

“Bye!” Said Rin as she walked out the front door, not waiting for answer.

She had gotten back to sleep at about five when they finally stopped. And got about an hour worth of sleep, then got up showered, dressed, did her English homework (She originally wanted to do it after dinner, but that didn’t work out as planned) packed her bag and grabbed a pear from the fridge. She hadn’t seen her mother or Naraku at all. She was at school about a couple of minutes before the bell.

“Rin.”

“Hi Kagome.” She said turning towards her.

“How’s it going?”

How’s it going? She mentally echoed. Kagome must have read her expression, “That bad.”

“Not bad, just-

“Hey Kagome, Rin.”

“Hey” “Sango,” they said in unison as Sango came towards them.

“Did you guys do the English homework, I didn’t have time.”

“Yeah,” Rin and Kagome said, but Kagome beat her to the punch and give Sango the homework.

“Thanks.”

“Why is Ms Mang giving homework so close to semester finals, making it hard to study for our classes,” Rin complained.

Kagome and Sango just looked at each with knowing expressions. It took Rin a couple of seconds to catch on. “Wait a minute this doesn’t have to do with what you said. She punishing the entire class just to get back at you, just what did you say to her Sango?” She asked.

“Ladies.” The girls turned around to see Miroku and Inuyasha.

“Little sis!” Yura came up behind Rin and put her arm around her. “You left in a hurry I thought we could have walked together.”

“Don’t call me that,” she said as she took Yura’s arm off. “And you don’t walk you always get a ride from some guy.”

“I know, but I would have walked for you we have to bond little sis,” Yura said with a childish pout.

“Don’t call me that,” She said again.

Kagome and the others just stared at her. Just before they came to their senses to ask what the hell was going on. Well that was Kagome and Sango’s expression read, Inuyasha’s looked like what in fuck is going on here. Plus more, but she didn’t want to interpret that. Miroku looked the lease threatening, but anyone could he want to know too. But the bell rang the savior.

School seemed to go by with a nice breeze, but slowed to a crawl came time for English. Every teacher was giving review lessons and study guides in preparation for the final that would start Wednesday. But not Ms. Mang, she was trying to cram more lessons into her student’s heads. Also giving last minute tests. And five page essays. That pissed Inuyasha off to no end and landed him another detention for cursing out the teacher.

Is the second hand moving thought Rin as she stared at the clock? Her hand moved over the paper, writing the words to the essay. She had limited research, but it was going well. Her eyes scanned the classroom Inuyasha was slumped over his desk asleep. Kagome stared down at her paper, looking at it in
intense thought. Sango slowly writing hers, her eyebrows pushed together. And Miroku she couldn’t tell what he was doing, but he had an odd smile on his face. That couldn’t be a good thing, she concluded.

The room was so quiet with the exception of the moving pens and the ticking of the clock. Rin turned the paper over and started writing on the back. Her eyes went back to the clock she heard the ticking, but the second hand wasn’t moving. Please don’t tell me, I’m stuck in the twilight zone doomed to be here with this eerily silence and writing this dumb paper forever! Of course she let her imagination got out of control again, but it was warn tented. She felt like she been here for hours.

Fifteen minutes later the bell rung and everyone practically ran out the room.

“Freedom!” She heard someone say.

“Yeah,” Inuyasha said agreeing.

“What are you talking about Inuyasha, you slept through the whole class,” said Kagome.

“No only half the class I was being bitched at the other half.”

“Oh yeah like that makes a difference.”

“It does.”

Time was back to it’s normal flow Ms. Mang must have done something to slow down time in order to torture Sango, and everyone got pulled in too. She wondered what Sango said to the woman. It must have been really bad if she was willing to torture all of her students just to get to one person. A teacher has to give out the same amount of points to all the classes that the teacher is teaching. Teachers can’t play favorite so that means Ms. Mang was doing this to all of her classes. And she always makes her work worth a lot, it all ways makes or breaks your grade. Rin made a note to ask Sango about it later.

Finally the last class of the day.

Mikobabe: ok shy talk

Shychild: what
Hoping that they got the touch of innocence.

Inu-tetsusaiga: little sis

Well she’ll just have to say it.

Shychild: her dad and my mom are dating

Noblemonk: is it serious

Shychild: My mom and I moved here just to be near him, plus he brought our house we live in.

Noblemonk: that’s serious

Shychild: but Yura isn’t that bad

Why was she defending her?

Slayer: really?

Mikobabe: yeah I got to hear this

Mikobabe: err… read

Shychild: I mean at 1st she was but now she isn’t that bad or worse

Slayer: word of advice

Mikobabe: nice on the outside bitch on the inside

Slayer: she just hasn’t shown her true colors yet

Rin didn’t like all the warning she was getting, was Yura that awful? She had to admit it felt like Yura was setting her up for something. With what happen in her room a while ago and also the all knowing smile. Yura always had on her face, but she hasn’t done anything.

I guess I better not let my guard just in case Rin thought.

Noblemonk: the only woman I wouldn’t touch

Inu-tetsusaiga: now that’s saying something

Slayer: yes that’s very comforting

Inu-tetsusaiga: it should last 2 girls in the world he’ll have to choose u slayer

Slayer: I wouldn’t let him touch me with a 10 foot pole

Noblemonk: really what about that time at my house

Slayer: SHUT UP!

Mikobabe: what time

Shychild: what time

Inu-tetsusaiga: I know about that

“You told him!” Sango said as she stood and yelled across the room.

“Ms. Shino is there something you want to share with the class?” Asked the teacher.

Sango realized what she done, “Um nothing sorry,” she sat down embarrassed. Some of the students laughed.

Slayer: U WILL PAY!

Shychild: monk I think u should run home as soon as class is over

Noblemonk: no I will face my punishment with dignity plus she’ll just catch me

Noblemonk: probably won’t be at school for a while through

Mikobabe: in the hospital

Shychild: in a coma

Slayer: that sounds about right

Noblemonk: don’t give her ideas

Inu-tetsusaiga: LOL

The rest of the week wasn’t that eventful as finals started, but that’s not important. The weekend that started winter break is. Yura and Naraku were officially moved in. It was a slow thing; they ate dinner together everyday and ate out too. In the morning she would see Naraku in the kitchen with a cup of coffee and her mother near by with a goofy smile on her face. Rin would say ‘Good morning’ before getting something from the fridge, and then going back upstairs. The closest spare bedroom to the stairs was filled with Yura. But it looked like she been there for years, the room was a mess cloths and things of the floor. Postures of bands, singers, and famous people hung from the walls. It was only a one-minute sight because as soon as Yura saw her looking in, she walked up to the door and slammed in her face. Their moving in was so slow-moving that she didn’t feel a change of their present in the house.

Friday 11:21 pm

Rin open the door to the house. She turned around and wave to Kouga then went inside. He honked is horn and drove away. Ayame had called in sick. Instead of calling the usual replacement she called her saying. “I want you to guard Kouga against that wannbe man-stealer. You got to do this for me Rin, cough. Rin you got to cough, cough protect Kouga. cough” And she agreed and wished Ayame to get better soon. Kouga offered to drive her home after they close up the café. Just because this was a safe neighborhood, you still can’t be too careful, he said. So she agreed.

“I’m home,” she announced closing the door and locking it. No answer. She put her coat in the closet. “Mom.” She went into the living room no was there. “Yura, Naraku.” Geez she must be really use to their being here if she can call out their names like it was normal. No it is normal. They were going to be here that was all it was to it.

In the kitchen she found a note on the counter.

Rin
Left dinner in the microwave, heat it up on a minute.
We’ll be back around 1 or 2am at the latest.

Love
Mom Naraku and Yura XOXO

“One or two am!” She set the paper down. Where could they have gone to keep them out so late? Oh well, she had the house to herself, but not like she going to do anything anyway. Going over to the microwave she punched in one minute and press start. Rin pulled the tie from her hair letting it bounce free from the ponytail it was in for the day.

Rin let out a long exhale of breath as she went and got a fork from the draw. “Wonder where they went,” she absently asked herself, it’s just she felt kind of left out. “I’m letting myself get depressed over this.” The microwave beeped its completion.

She took the plate out, “Oh my favorite.” Now, feeling rebellious nobody’s home to get caught by Rin was going to eat in the living room.

Okay that was sad.

So instead she ate silently in the kitchen. After finishing eating she washed the dishes. There were already some dirties dishes in the sink, she washed them too and than put them away. If they didn’t go out to eat to dinner, then where did they go? Before she felt alone in the outside world, however, never at home. Because her mother was always there, there were days where it seemed the world was against them. When their tiny apartment was robbed and the savings gone or when they were about to put out on the street. It was hard, but she and her mother managed it. Times were tough but then her mother would say, “As long as we are together we are home, just us together and that’s my happiness.”

“But your not here now!” She said angrily.

Rin paused then took another deep breath and exhale it slowly. She was depressed, angry and bitter not a good combination. Realizing that was said a long time ago and this is a different situation from what their life was before. Things change, people change she has to realize that. Her mother had sacrificed so much to raise her. And she couldn’t give anything back. The least she could do was make sure her mother was happy.

Rin went upstairs to her room and took a shower, hoping to let the mental conflict wash away and be left with only the solution. When she got out the bathroom she got dressed in her pajamas and towel on her head. “That feels better,” she smiled, rustling the towel through her wet hair.

Than something hit her square on the cheek. It hit her hard enough to knock to the floor, she laid face down. She lay there in a daze in her eyes before it snapped in her what happen. Skip that she didn’t know, only knew that her face hurt like someone threw a brick at her head. Slowly she started to get up, but was push down. A something heavy pressed down on her back holding her immobile. Rin opened her mouth to scream, but never got the chance. Because another blow was dealt to the back of her head, and her vision went black.

“Sorry, but I need to check something.”
