What's A Dragon to Do?

Chapter 7

Shippou woke up and looked around him. He was in a bed with a human child. He looked closer at the girl and thought, Sesshoumaru's human child. How did he get here and where was Kagome. He reached over and lightly shook the girls shoulder rousing her from her slumber.

"Rin where is my Okaa-san?" Rin sat up and rubbed her eyes. Then she looked down at Shippou

"Your awake Shippou I was beginning to worry about you. You slept all day. What happened?"

"Okaa-san and I were on our way to take a bath and that is the last thing I remember. How did I get here and is Okaa-san here also?" Shippou looked around her room and didn't see any sign of Kagome in it.

"I have not seen Kagome. Ah Un brought you to the castle with a letter from Lord Sesshoumaru to take care of you till Kagome comes to retrieve you. I have not seen Sesshoumaru lately either. He has been gone for a long time. He usually returns before I eat dinner and it is much to late for that. I slept through dinner and now Jaken won't let me have anything till morning. He says if I am late I do not deserve any food because I must not be hungry." Rin brings her knees up to her chest and rocks herself back and forth.

Shippou watches the girl in front of him. Surely Sesshoumaru would not let the awful imp treat Rin in such a way.

"Sesshoumaru will be home shortly then he will let you get something to eat."

"I hope so because I am so hungry." Rin smiles at Shippou and stands up. "Would you like to see the toys Sesshoumaru bought me?"

Shippou nods his head and follows the girl to the room connected to her bedroom. It was full of every toy a child could possibly want. How could he give her these toys then let that imp mistreat her so much.

"Wow"

"Sesshoumaru said that many of these toys were his and his brothers when they were smaller and I was to be extra careful with them. They have been in his family for many years." Rin grabbed a doll off a shelf and showed it to Shippou "This one is my favorite. It reminds me of Kagome. Sesshoumaru said it belonged to his mother when she was little and since she died I was to take very good care of it."

Shippou walked over to another shelf and lifted a worn stuffed dog off the shelf. It had seen better years. He was almost afraid to touch it. But it reminded him of Sesshoumaru in his true form.

"Do you know who this belonged to Rin?"

"Sesshoumaru told me that it had belonged to his brother Inuyasha. I think that he wanted to laugh when I found that one. It was behind a shelf hidden from everyone but I found it." Rin smiled as Shippou looked at her in shock.

"Sesshoumaru laughing I just can't imagine that happening Rin." Not to mention imagining Inuyasha holding a stuffed dog toy. Shippou put the stuffed dog back on the shelf and looked at some other toys.

"Sesshoumaru is not always serious. If you know him like I do you can tell what he is feeling even if he does not always show it. You have to look at his eyes they show you what he is feeling. I know all his looks. I like his Jaken is going to die look best." Rin made her face to look like Sesshoumaru's as much as she could and watched as Shippou started laughing at her.

Shippou could almost see Sesshoumaru's face in Rin's. She was quite good at impersonating her lord. Shippou finally stopped laughing and stood up and went to look at some other toys.

"That was good Rin. What does Sesshoumaru think about you doing that?"

"Oh, I could never do that in front of Lord Sesshoumaru. I don't want to make him mad at me, because he might decide to get rid of me. I would be sad if Lord Sesshoumaru got rid of me." She placed the doll back on the shelf and turned to leave the room. "It is time to go to bed. If Jaken comes up and I am not in bed he will hit me with his staff. I don't like it when he does that." She turned and returned to her bedroom. "You can share my bed with me for now until Sesshoumaru returns and gives you your own." She grabbed Shippou's hand and dragged him to the bed and jumped on it with him. She covered them up and lay down. "We must be quiet now or Master Jaken will get really mad at us."

Shippou just nodded his head and lay down beside Rin. He would protect her from the imp while he was here and when he saw Sesshoumaru again he would give him a piece of his mind for letting that imp harm Rin.

He watched over her till she fell asleep and growled slightly when the imp entered the room and checked on her. He growled at the imp as he came closer to the bed and put a shield around the bed using his foxfire. The imp would not touch Rin.

Jaken entered the girl's room hoping she was not in bed asleep so he would have a reason to hit the worthless creature with his staff. Why Lord Sesshoumaru kept the human alive he had no idea. But as long as his lord was not home he would not treat her with respect. He entered the room and heard something growl at him. He saw the kitsune on the bed growling at him.

"Kitsune you will not growl at Lord Sesshoumaru's loyal servant. I will teach you some manners." Jaken brought his staff up and tried to hit the kitsune but the kitsune's barrier surrounded the human and himself. He brought his staff down and tried to destroy the barrier but it didn't work. He used the staff to shoot fire at the barrier. He could feel it weakening.

Suddenly the barrier was destroyed but before he could stop the flames Rin's bed was engulfed in them. He jumped back away from the bed. What had he done? Lord Sesshoumaru would surely kill him now. What was he going to do? He killed the kitsune and the human girl.

All he had meant to do was destroy the barrier. How was he to know it was so weak? I know I will make it seem like someone else attacked them. Then Sesshoumaru would not kill me. Jaken used the staff and blasted a hole in the wall going into the garden.

He started yelling and servants and guards came running. He watched them put the fire out and nothing but ashes were left in the room. He yelled at the guards for letting an intruder into the castle and soon had them all searching high and low for the assailant. So far his plan was going perfectly.
