A Moment Of Weakness

(A/N: Time to reply to reviews!!!

Selina: You apologize to your dog for squealing so loud!!! XD lol, jk! I’m so glad you liked it! And without a doubt, I’m making Kagome ten-times better than who I’m basing her off of—The original girl in Ikki Tousen is a DITZ to the max, but still pretty put together. Even still, I wanted to make Kagome such a badass! And Inuyasha was feeling…hmm…perhaps he was angry, or, perhaps he WAS mad after being left out in the dark…hmmm…lol! And I love Kagome having a dragon—It just gives her so much more coolness! Especially how she can use the dragon’s power! Ah, I’m talking WAY too much! Thanks for the warm welcome back!!!!)

Erin Night: You HAVE to read the series—I strongly advice reading the Manga as opposed to the anime, because the anime has some SERIOUS gaps in it, but it’s still pretty good to see all of the action from the pages in the anime, so it’s a win-win! Thanks for the luck! I’m trying not to base everything off of Ikki Tousen, lol! It’s kinda hard though! Thanks again!!!

Ai: Thanks for the advice! Notice the new summary? I wanted to try for something light and funny, but still action/drama based! Thanks for the suggestion! AND Kagome WILL BE SO MUCH SMARTER THAN HAKUFU. That girl is seriously dead-brained, even though she does have her moments! I’m trying to keep Kagome’s character AWAY from being based on Hakufu, with the exception of being leader and the whole dragon thing, lol. And Ai…ALL of my stories end happily!!!! ^_^ No worries and I can’t wait for another update on your story!!!!

Thanks for all of the reviews! Now, on with the story!!!!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The last rays of the dying sun were all that could be seen over the horizon as the two figures stood in front of the gates of Mizuryu high school. Had anyone been watching them, it would have been an easy assumption to say that the couple may have been breaking up—Or, she was confessing her love for him. She stood very modestly, one hand over the other and standing straight up. He was standing more casually, a single hand in his pocket. She bowed for a few seconds before raising her head with a smile. He could only half-smile in return—It was good to see her smiling, either way. Two eyes watched the scene unfold from the newly constructed computer lab. It had taken three, full days to get the school back up and running, and that included Saiyuri-X as well. Inuyasha turned away from the window and looked at Shippo who was furiously typing away on the computer. His girlfriend and main data bank for the school, Saiyuri, sat on a stool beside the main computer, a cord coming from her chest and plugging into the computer. Thanks to Yukiryu’s help, the damages to the school had been quickly repaired. The damages to the students…not so much.

“Well, how many casualties are we looking at here, Shippo?”

Saiyuri ‘dinged’ and looked at Inuyasha—Her eyes still had that freaky, lifeless glow to them, but only because she was accessing dating from her banks and the main computer.

“Twenty-nine dead, one-hundred-six wounded, forty-nine still able-bodied and healthy.” She replied with a monotone voice.

“Great…We’re in trouble. How is Sango?”

“She’s doing okay—There were no major injuries. Miroku has been checking on her for the past three days since she’s been at home. I got a call from him earlier this morning—He said he was taking the day off to keep Sango company.” Shippo sighed, taking his groggy eyes of off the screen. He’d been back up data almost nonstop for the past three days, including two, long, all-nighters to make sure Saiyuri-X was fully functional.

Inuyasha could only nod as he turned back to the scene outside of the window. That bastard Sesshoumaru had his hand on Kagome’s cheek, trying to wipe a few tears away from her eyes. It had been three days since Houryu’s assault on Mizuryu and in that time, Kagome had been taking fearsome charge—She led the whole reconstruction ordeal with the help of Sesshoumaru and the students from Yukiryu. Now, all that remained of the damages were the missing students. Almost thirty students dead was a massive blow and now, there were thirty less students to help defend Mizuryu. Nevermind the fact that he and Kagome had barely seen one another, even though they lived in the same house. Kagome had been busy with Sesshoumaru and building alliances with Yukiryu. He wouldn’t say he was jealous per se…But it did annoy him to no end.

“So, do you have that information on Kagome yet?”

“Yeah, I’ve had it for atleast an hour, but you were lost in space everytime I tried to bring it up to you.” Shippo sighed.

“Well, I’m here now. Let’s hear it.” Inuyasha said, crossing his arms over his chest.

With a few, quick keystrokes, Saiyuri was relying Shippo’s findings to Inuyasha from the information passed to her from the computer.

“Because of a divorce when they were children, their parents took up different family names—Kagome-Sama took upon her mother’s and naturally, Souta-Sama took upon his father’s. Kagome-Sama and Souta-Sama are only three years apart, so naturally when Kagome-Sama became a freshman, he’d be a senior here at Mizuryu.” Saiyuri concluded.

“But no one has seen that idiot Souta in almost seven months! And to add insult to injury, he sends Kagome here in his stead! That girl’s motives for being here keep changing and it’s really starting to piss me off!”

Shippo looked up from the monitor to glance at Inuyasha—He just hadn’t been the same since Kagome took over as the leader of Mizuryu. It was one hell of a save, but at this point, no one knew what Kagome’s true motives were. Inuyasha was more offended than anyone—First the little bitch comes here, claiming to want to be his wife and fulfill a promise to her dead parents, now she was claiming that Souta had sent for her to become the new leader! What exactly was missing from this puzzle? Inuyasha glanced out of the window once more. Now, walking by herself and back towards the school building was Kagome. She must have felt his eyes on her, because she stopped and glanced up in his direction. Inuyasha turned away from the window with a huff.

“Well, atleast the fucking school is still standing and we have an alliance, though I don’t trust that smug bastard, Sesshoumaru.”

“Why not? He’s known for his power and his cunning.” Shippo offered.

“And that’s exactly why I don’t like him—I can’t stand the way he looks at Kagome.”

A smirk worthy of a fox’s spread across Shippo’s lips before he broke into a full-blown grin.

“Inuyasha…you like her, don’t you?”

“The hell I do!” he bellowed in return.

“Well, even though I don’t believe you, rumor has it that he already has a girlfriend. A pretty attractive one at that, so you don’t have to worry.”

“Who said I was worrying?!” he yelled.

The door to the computer room slid open and Shippo could only grin. Speak of the devil…

“Hey, guys. Shippo, I hate to bother you when you’re busy, but do you mind pulling up some information for me?”

“Anything for you, Kagome-Sama!” replied energetically.

Inuyasha glared at Shippo—When Kagome was around, he acted like an obedient puppy. Kagome was far deserving of the title ‘Sama’ as well, even though that’s what all of the students called her now. While Kagome looked over Shippo’s shoulder as he began to search for the information she was looking for, Kagome glanced up at Inuyasha’s direction and smiled at him. It’d been a few days since they’d actually been able to have some alone time together. He was usually asleep when she got home and she was gone to school before he woke up. Judging by the small scowl on his face, he was still pretty angry at her. Kagome tried not to let it bother her…

“Nee, Inuyasha, I’m free if you want to walk home together.”

“Doesn’t the all-important leader have issues to attend to?” he bit back.

Inuyasha mentally chided himself—He didn’t mean for it to come out so nasty, but dammit, he was still frustrated. Mizuryu was turning around quickly than it had in the entire time he’d attended the school. Kagome replied with a very sad smile and shrugged.

“Well…we’re ahead of schedule, so I can take a small break…”

“No thanks. Anyway, since I need to relay all messages to you, I think you need to know that it’s my intention to form an alliance with Chikyuuryu very soon. We already have Yukiryu on our side, so…”

“I won’t approve of that.”

Inuyasha stared at her incredulously as she stood up straight and shook her head slightly.

“Not yet—It’s far too risky. Besides, I already have a meeting set up between Kikyou-Sama and I.”

“When did this happen?” Inuyasha growled.

“Yesterday, sometime. I’m going to Chikyuuryu to talk with Kikyou.”

“About what?”

“The future of the three schools that refuse to go belly-up because of all of the scare tactics that Naraku is putting into place. Don’t worry, Inuyasha, I’ve already gotten it taken care of.”

With a quick ding of the printer, Kagome walked over to it and looked at the information Shippo had printed. If it was accurate, she’d have no trouble winning over Kikyou.

“What’s that?” Inuyasha asked.

“Kikyou’s favorite food! I plan on taking it as a gift to her tomorrow. Kikyou doesn’t like many sweet things, but the one sweet she will eat is a delicious piece of cake from a bakery that only sells five pieces a day! I’ll be sure to get up really early to get one.” Kagome smiled.

A piece of cake? That’s what Kagome was going to take as a gift of peace to Kikyou? Obviously her brain was broken, but what could he do? Kagome was set on it.

“Are you going alone, Kagome-Sama?”

“Yep! It shouldn’t take me too long. Really, this isn’t about politics or anything, it’s just I’d like the chance to get to know Kikyou.”

“And this has nothing to do with Izayoi’s influence over you?” Inuyasha smirked.

Kagome shook her head earnestly as she folded up the piece of paper.

“No, I understand there’s bad blood between Izayoi and Kikyou, but that’s all in the past—I want to try and make peace if I can. I believe this war can be ended by talking and no more senseless violence.”

Inuyasha gave a huff, which showed he had his doubts. Kagome smiled slightly before thanking Shippo and heading out of the room. Once she was gone, Shippo turned to Inuyasha with a scowl on his face.

“Look, maybe you’re not happy with how Kagome is doing things and that’s fine, but you have to understand what she’s going through right now! A lot is on her shoulders!”

“A lot is on everyone’s shoulders…!” Inuyasha replied.

“You don’t get it, do you, Inuyasha? Or are you the only one not to hear about Kagome’s little moment of weakness when she went to see Sango?”

Inuyasha’s eyes widened in slight interest. He didn’t even know Kagome had seen Sango. Inuyasha watched Shippo sit back down at the computer with an exasperated sigh.

“Miroku told me all about it. Kagome went to see Sango yesterday and while he waited outside, he heard Kagome apologizing forever and she broke down and began crying. Kagome blamed herself for not being able to stop all of the death and destruction that happened. It really messed with Kagome big time. She wasn’t used to seeing all of that death and damage, Inuyasha. Can you imagine how Kagome must feel, knowing that she has to protect all of us? Can you imagine what Kagome would feel if she couldn’t?”

Inuyasha’s look softened slightly as he saw Kagome begin to head out of the schoolyard with her bag. He punched the wall for a second before muttering a curse and hurrying out of the computer lab. Shippo could only sigh to himself before chuckling. Inuyasha was such an idiot sometimes.

Kagome wasn’t sure what to think at this point as she walked down the twilighted streets of Tokyo. It was quiet at this hour, just the way she liked it, but without Inuyasha’s presence beside her, it was almost too quiet. It was almost five—If she made it home in time, she could help Momoeiko with dinner. Her new diplomatic status was beginning to affect her home and social status as well. As Kagome passed by the park, she noticed a few children playing at the nearby playground. She giggled to herself as they swung on the swings, slid down the slides and played in the sandbox. Kagome wondered if maybe she’d missed out on something fun in childhood, especially since her childhood consisted of rigorous training. She hadn’t any friends when she was younger and wasn’t allowed outside to play with the other children that lived near her. A sudden pain struck her heart as she realized that she may have just alienated the only friends she’d ever really known.

Including Inuyasha.

The thought made her crouch down to the ground and bury her hands in her face and cry. Everything was still happening so fast—Sango seemed to forgive her and Miroku seemed to be getting over everything quickly, but what about Inuyasha? What about Inuyasha…?

“Idiot, if you let anyone see you cry like that, they’re going to think it’s okay to take advantage of you.”

Kagome quickly looked up and saw Inuyasha standing there with two crepes in his hand. He huffed for a minute, turning his head away to hide his blush.

“Well, I don’t suppose one of these will make you feel better?”

Kagome stood up, trying to wipe away her tears. She reached for the crepe filled with strawberries and cream. Inuyasha was left with the chocolate filled one. After finding a quiet place to sit in the park, Kagome and Inuyasha sat on a bench and watched the moon slowly rise over the horizon. Kagome nibbled on the sweet crepe and smiled at Inuyasha.

“Thanks…I must look so stupid right now.”

“Well, I’m not denying that.”

Kagome tried to stifle a giggle, but it was hard—She felt the need to cry and feel better at the same time. As Inuyasha sat beside her with a little space between them, he stared at the moon rising over the horizon. The moon always made him feel calm for some reason.

“Inuyasha…you have to believe me when I say this…”

He glanced at her. She’d already finished the tasty snack and sat with her hands folded in her lap. She looked as if she were going to break into tears any second.

“I…I didn’t mean to lie to you. It’s true, I did get a letter for my Niisan, but, the only reason I even decided to take him upon his offer was because he promised I could be close to you. As long as I was close to you, I believed I could endure anything…”

Once more, Kagome buried her face in her hands as the onset of tears began to rack her body slightly.

“At first, I didn’t want to do anything to help the school, but when I learned that those who I love and want to protect risk being hurt in any way, I didn’t know what to do. Then you told me to go back to China and I just couldn’t…!” she cried.

She looked at him, almost helplessly as tears streamed down her face.

“As long as I could be by your side, Inuyasha, I’d take up my duties as Mizuryu’s leader…But I didn’t know it would cause you to hate me!”

Inuyasha almost seemed stunned when she gripped his uniform and buried her face in his chest.

“God, I’ll endure anything, just don’t hate me, Inuyasha! I can’t stand it!”

Inuyasha put his arms around her quickly and held her close. She cried for a long time before finally settling down so Inuyasha could talk.

“Look…I don’t hate you, I’m just annoyed right now. I mean, you have to understand that you being here has thrown everything and everyone out of whack. Especially me, dammit.”

Kagome looked up at him and he offered her a piece of cloth to wipe her tears with. He sighed and relaxed into the wooden bench, crossing one leg over the other. He turned his attention to a couple walking a dog along the cobblestone path and continued on.

“Kagome…you have to understand, when your brother left Mizuryu without a word, everyone thought we were pretty much fucked. Sango was crazy about him and me, Miroku and Shippo were all like brothers. So, when Souta just up and left one day, without so much of a ‘Goodbye’, we didn’t know what to think. Nevermind the fact that a school without its leader is in big trouble. That’s why Miroku said Souta abandoned us.”

Kagome looked at the ground with a small sigh. She didn’t know her brother’s motives for leaving, but she knew he wasn’t the coward everyone assumed him to be. That wasn’t the big brother she remembered. When she looked up, she saw Inuyasha’s piercing brown eyes staring at her.

“Then you showed up out of nowhere, came into Mizuryu like a breeze and pretty much made your mark. You made your mark on Miroku, Sango, Shippo…Me. The entire damn school cares about you and it’s only been, what, three days? I’ll admit, Souta was a hell of a leader, but…he’s not quite you.”

He turned to her and gave her a small wink. Kagome’s cheeks reddened at the gesture, but she couldn’t help but wonder if he was just trying to make her feel better.

“As far as you accepting Izayoi’s Shikon Tama, I’m not sure how to feel about that. You appear to be in complete, physical health, which is something you have over Izayoi. It just pissed me off to no end you decided to accept your part in this war.”

“What?! I wouldn’t run away from it…!” she replied.

“Then tell me—Why did you wait so long before accepting it?”

Kagome’s cheeks reddened a little more and she looked away from him.

“I…wanted to make sure my feelings for you were legit.”

Inuyasha’s eyes widened. That wasn’t the response he was expecting. She looked at her lap and smoothed out the light blue skirt.

“Inuyasha…I really love you, y’know? But everyone is talking about the Shikon Tama and saying that the emotions that they have about something or for someone is all because of it’s influence. But that’s not true…even after accepting it, I realized my feelings for you stayed the same. My feelings about my friends and wanting to protect Mizuryu stayed the same…”

Kagome looked at him and noticed his complete focus on her. Atleast he was listening to what she had to say in a serious light.

“Of course I’m afraid of dying young, but I believe we all have the power to change our fate. Besides…”

She mustered one of her honest-to-goodness smiles.

“…If I die young, I won’t be able to have your children.”

Inuyasha’s eyes widened in panic and he moved back from her by several inches. Kagome giggled at his reaction—After all, what guy wanted to have kids when he was still in high school? Inuyasha was just amazed by her one-track mind.

“Is that all that’s on your brain right now?! Marrying me and having kids?!”

“Yes. If I can be with you, raise a family and be happy…I’ll ask for nothing else.”

It amazed him how serious and earnest she looked as well. Inuyasha sighed and leaned back into the bench.

“But…” Kagome began.

He watched as she began to clench her school skirt. Suddenly, her entire body began to shake.

“I…don’t know if I have what it takes to be a leader…All of the death I saw that day…all of the wounded I visited…Did you know Sango’s eye is wounded beyond repair? She has to wear an eyepatch now!”

“She was wearing an eyepatch before, baka.”

“No! That was because of a small scratch! Now she’s wearing one full-time! All because I didn’t act fast enough...Inuyasha, I’m scared. S…Sesshoumaru told me to be strong and that I can’t show any weakness, but inside…”

She clutched the material of her skirt tighter and clenched her eyes tightly shut as tears began to flow down her face.

“I’m so scared! I’m so weak…! I hate myself for even thinking this way, but…! It’s so true! I’m so fucking weak!” she sobbed.

When she suddenly felt Inuyasha’s hand on the back of her head, she opened her eyes and turned her head in time to have him force her face towards his. When his lips met hers in a domineering kiss, Kagome wasn’t sure what to think. When Inuyasha broke the kiss some seconds later, he saw he’d obviously shocked her, but huffed.

“Dammit, stop saying you’re weak! Mizuryu was damn near demolished and in just three days, you’ve helped rebuild it! You’ve raised everyone’s spirits, even those who are wounded and even those who gave their lives to defend it! Everyone is looking to you now, Kagome! Don’t dare let them down!”

Fresh tears began to bathe under her cheeks and she gave a small nod.

“And…”

She glanced up at Inuyasha as a small blush stained his cheeks.

“If you ever have another moment of weakness…just let me know. I’m not really good with emotions and shit, but…I’ll try and make you feel better.”

“Inuyasha…” she sighed softly.

Inuyasha’s mind reeled at how she sounded when she said his name like that. He wondered if she sounded like that in bed. He smirked slightly as he watched her put her fingers to her lips and blush.

“Let me guess—That was your first kiss? How stupid…”

“I’m…just glad that…it was you.” She admitted with a smile.

“Yeah, well, better me than Sesshoumaru.” He huffed.

Kagome’s eyes widened a bit and she couldn’t help but giggle.

“Are you jealous of Sesshoumaru?”

“Like hell I am!” he raged.

Kagome giggled a little more and he growled at her.

“I’m sorry, it’s just so silly! You don’t need to be, Inuyasha.”

She turned and put her hands on the bench and leaned towards him. It was her turn to do the startling as she leaned forward and placed a small kiss on his lips. He hadn’t even had time to blink. She pulled away with another smile.

“You’re the only guy I’ll ever look at romantically.”

“Feh…whatever.”

He stood up and scratched the back of his head. It was a little after seven…His mom was probably pissed off that they were late getting home, but whatever. He looked at Kagome who was still sitting on the bench and extended his hand, but turned his head away from her.

“Let’s go, stupid girl.”

While Kagome didn’t like being called ‘stupid’, she did enjoy the fact that his name-calling officially meant he was no longer mad at her. She took his hand and was simply giddy when he held her hand the entire way home. Kagome looked up at the night scenery with a small smile.

“Inuyasha,”

“What now?” he looked at her.

“I can continue to be a leader as long as you’re by my side.”

Inuyasha blushed slightly and yanked her hand a little harder as he quickened his pace.

“Don’t say such stupid things. I’m not going anywhere…Mizuryu will probably fall if I do.”

“Inuyasha…” she giggled.

Kagome was probably the happiest girl on the face of the earth.
