Ch. 6 The beginning
Staring at the door for a split second, the young woman remember that she needed her breakfast. Willing her feet to turn around she grabbed the counter and and swung her body with the her weight and landed in front of the ever ready ingredients. She placed the frying pan on the pilot light and waited for the flame to click on.
Three eggs, and 2 cups of cheese along with some ham - negative on the bacon - the omelet was done. For the whole time it took to make it took a fraction to for her to consume it and place the dishes in the sink.
Glaring at the microwave clock she stormed into her room and rummaged for clothes. “Got ta do the laundry some time, I suppose.” She noted absently as she kept looking for a bra. Any bra, well mostly a clean bra was best for times that consisted at work. She looked over the clothes she wanted and sighed, still not bra.
The mood in the apartment changed. “Well that scraps that idea.” She mumbled as she tossed back into the draws and looked in her closet for the dark blue and pink striped halter top and a pair of short jean shorts. Grabbing a pair of bright red chucks she went to the living room and sat on her flea market, blue checkered couch and sat down to begin the lacing and tying of her sneakers.
Turning to the small utility closet, she grabbed her dark blue zip up hoodie and her electric guitar still in its zebra striped case, curiosity of Souta and his odd ball idea’s. His idea rang in her head, “It will set you apart from other people so your fans will remember you.” She shrugged her shoulders, the way she thought about it was well FREE!
She pulled the hoodie over her head and reached in the pocket and found a random scrunchie. Hair tied she than reached for the guitar case and pulled the strap over her shoulder and let the guitar rest on her back upside down.
Grabbing her key’s of the hook next to the front door. She flicked the lights, from the switch, on in front of her door and put her wallet in her back pocket and placing her walkman in her pocket followed by the placing of her head phones on. Cranking it to loud, she spaced out as she did the ritual of the closing and locking of the front door.
Kagome looked at the turbulent gray sky and sighed. Pulling the hood over her head she started her walk to the bar. The splashing of water on the sidewalk only encourage the female to hurry her pace to her job as she kept her head low. The drops were big along with hard as they pelted her in the back and soaking her hoodie and already wet, showered head.
She sighed aloud again as she gave up on the hood and let it drop to her already soaked back. Her walking only went to a brisker pace as she felt the rain start to enter the front of her of her jacket and slowly wet her bra less breasts. Yikes!
As she walked a beat began to play in her head, and she started to pat her legs as she made her way to work. After being looked at like a weirdo in the feudal era, this era was no different in her odd mannerisms. The song, was anonymous to her. She didn’t know the band or the song. She did that for a reason, she just wanted to listen to music regardless of of popularity or what have you.
She started to nod her head in time to the heavy beat that was playing in her ear drums. Like clock work, almost six to seven songs later, she was in front of the bar, Highway 21.
Granted there was no highway near the bar, or any streets with numbers, she asked her boss, Yoshi once why the bar was named such. He looked at her and sighed, apparently he lost a bet to an old friend. She asked him what kind of bet, but Yoshi just turned to her and said it was time for her set up.
Yoshi was a middle aged bat demon of three hundred, with eerie gray eyes and blond black hair that ran down the length of his back. He ran into the miko through her younger brother, after he got thrown out of the bar for yelling after the bouncer and bar owner about the entertainment. “My sister is ten times better than these tin men!” Well for Yoshi that sealed the deal, as he help the youth back up and got some more info out of him.
“Hey, Yoshi! Bart! Michi! I’m here.” As Kagome pushed the door open she bellowed her greeting to the quite bar and the few attending it tonight. After all it was a Tuesday so it wouldn’t be that busy as to get the part time waitresses, a total of three, just to waste their time on nothing that Kagome couldn’t handle from the bar.
Bart was an american from Las Vegas. No one knows why he came to Japan, but once he got here he never left. His gray short hair cut sat shaggily on his head along with a pair of brown eyes that could look at your soul. Well the miko swears by that any ways.
“You better hurry up and tally that drawer there, Missy.” Bart pointed to the bartenders register and continued, “The place is gonna open in fifteen minutes. Get yer butt in gear!”
“Sheesh. Bart, your acting like you care.” Michi chimed in as he turned back from the storage area to greet his second in their band. “’Sup boss?” The chameleon youkai turned to the miko with a blazing five watt smile and gave her a brotherly hug.
“Michi. Stop calling me that. We are equals, remember. Souta’s gonna stop by after he does a favor for me. So let’s get this shindig ready guys.” The female rubbed her froze hands together and went to the stereo system near the register to turned up the techno random beat and start the count down. “So Bart, why you here today any ways?”
Michi, he was the funny guy. Always trying to score on a chick, with his constant changing eye color. He was the player to the very core of his being. His name meant little to him in this young stage of his life. At the age of only one hundred and fifty seven, the green spiky haired demon seemed at the top of his game when it came to the opposite sex.
“Yoshi is gonna be late and he wanted to see some other guy about the a new position. And the new bouncer is sick. So’s as you can imagine, I am all that is man right now.” He winked at Kagome and turned from the bar going to the open sign and flicking it on.
As Kagome finished her count she waved for Bart to come back. “I need to tune the beast.” Taking her hoodie off, she jerked her thumb towards the zebra case and waited for Bart to change sides with her.
“Ok. But I can’t stay back here for long. Play that song for me.” Bart said as he started to make Kagome a Skinny Pirate, as she tuned her bright red guitar (yes it matched the shoe’s).
“To me, coming from you,” As she sang the crowd started to form and clap along to the beat.
Clap!
“Friend is a four letter word. End is the only part of the word that I heard. Call me morbid or absurd. But to me, coming from you, Friend is a four letter word.” As she started the song, she couldn’t help but think why Bart loved this song so much. Maybe, she thought, he’s just a Cake fan?
“Sing out to me Kagome! Sing strong.” Yelled Michi as he walked around and held the door open for some patrons to enter, encouraging them to clap along with the small star as he greeted them in.
“To me, coming from you,” the crowd was in a frenzy as she started the second stanza.
Clap!
“Friend is a four letter word. End is the only part of the word That I heard. Call me morbid or absurd. But to me, coming from you, Friend is a four letter word.” Kagome eyes were closed as she sang. She felt Souta’s return as she kept her cords going.
“When I go fishing for the words I am wishing you would say to me, I’m really only praying That the words you’ll soon be saying Might betray,” she paused and waited on baited breath, “The way you feel about me.” That got Kagome’s attention. She opened her eyes and looked at Bart. So maybe this was an old love song for someone, or maybe it was for her. Nah, Bart was like the dad she never had. That didn’t make sense.
“Oh shot!” The music was flowing tonight, she mused. This time the part of the song didn’t faze her. “Oh.. Come right, now.” This was her favorite part cause you never know what they meant. It was always open for interpretation really, well with her and Bart, along with Souta. “But to me,” she paused and searched for Bart in the crowd and wagged her eye brows, “Coming from you, Friend is a four letter word.”
As Kagome came out of her stupor she found Souta sitting at a bar stool, waving like an idiot at her. Michi was whistling like a mad man. She just shook her head and climbed off the stage. The bar looked moderately full. She must have brought extra people in, she thought as she hopped the bar over and gave Bart a pat on the shoulder.
“Here ya' go, Missy!” Bart handed her the well sought after rum and diet coke and hopped out.

Where in the seven fucking layers of hell were these flyers coming from, he thought to himself as he pulled one from the door knob and out of his mail pile ready to crunch up and trash six more copies of the same thing when a familiar name flashed in his eyes giving him pause.
He looked down at the bright, damaging to the eye, orange paper and started to read the black typed print. Only to let the paper float out of his hands and hear the mail drop on the floor with a thump!
Chancing a look at the clock that hung on the wall in the living room and rushed to his own room to change. He had time if he hurried. They open at eight and it was seven fifteen now.
Tonight is your night, he coached himself as he looked in the mirror, nodding as he thought. Tonight.

“Hey hottie, I’ll have what your having.” A red haired demon said as he brushed up against the bar. Confidence leaked out of him along with his ego making the miko want to yak all over his painted leather shoes.
Instead, she let the techno take her as she started to wait for more orders to come. Once five of the same drink came she set to work on her flair. She grabbed the Captain Morgan and filled five shots and spun the bottle in the air only to catch it behind her back. She filled five glasses with ice and poured the shots in and grabbed the fountain dispenser and filled them with diet. Before she dished out she put her hand out for the money and waited.
Fifty dollars total, fell in her outstretched hand with all the patrons shouting to “KEEP THE CHANGE!”
Now who could object to that?
Pretty soon Kagome found her rhythm and started to make drinks left and right. She sipped on her rum and coke and looked around the bar. Not bad for a tuesday, she thought. Than she looked at Souta and waved him to hop the bar. As soon as his feet touched the ground she was asking her question with a hopeful gleam in her eyes. “So, um... How did it go?”
“Eager, eh?” Souta chided with his sister, noticing the gleam returning to her eyes.
Before she could get a word in Michi was on stage holding the microphone. “All right everyone. You all ready for some more of Higurashi!?!” He yelled at the crowed and pointed to the bar at Kagome. “Let’s Go! Higurashi, get up here.”
As she approached the stage she could hear the cat calls and whistles being tossed at her. She was in her element, minus her lack of bra. “Hi guys.” She waited for the yellings of ‘I love you’ and ‘Will you marry me’ to die down before she gazed at the crowed. “So what’ll it be tonight?”
“Daddy Daddy!!” The crowd screamed as one.
The miko turned towards Michi and asked him while on the microphone, “Well Michi, can you get me my acoustic, please?” The crowd only roared louder. As he handed her the prized white fender guitar, he turned the spotlight on and waited on the side of the stage.
“Daddy, Daddy. Will you come and get me? It’s so cold out tonight. My sweater is gone My pants are ripped, I’m feeling so out of it. I’ll wait for you, Outside.” The regulars started to sing along with the mini rock star as she sang her heart out for her friends.
“Daddy, Daddy. Will you come and get me? It’s so cold out tonight. I’ve been waiting here, I stopped drinking beer. It’s been an hour. But I’m still Outside.” She remember that night that her friend from school called and said that her father got in an accident trying to get her from a college party.
Her sadness was Kagome’s as well.
Funny though, she couldn’t remember the girls name now.
A slight pain in her chest warned Kagome to hurry. She looked at Michi and gestured with her eyes what she needed, never loosing a beat as she continued. Only a few people in the bar understood or even noticed what was going on as her aura started to change. It started to caress the as it spread only to touch a large youkai, snapping her head up she scanned the crowd. It felt so familiar. Like a long lost friend.
“Daddy Daddy. Where did you go? I’m home, All alone.” She played her solo and let the remorse wash over her in waves. “Oh, no. Daddy Daddy. I’m all alone.” She closed with her head bowed and letting the vibrations from the acoustic lead her to silence. Then the bar exploded!
Clapping, whistling, cheering. Praise all around, but the little lady didn’t hear it. The clench in her chest started to twist painfully, she placed her hand to her heart and breathed. She calmed and went to the microphone. “All right people. We’ll be back after a break.” She hopped off the stage and waited with her hand outstretched, Souta handed her drink and Michi gave her the pills. “Michi, can I bum one?” She went out the back and turned back in calling, “and some timber?”
She sat on some crates out side and took her pills and downed her drink. Than she just started to wait for Michi. “Michi!” She yelled out her impatience to her band mate.
He popped his head out the door way and tossed her his cig’s along with the lighter she requested. “I got the bar. Lemme know when your break is done.” He turned around starting to walk back towards the bar and bodies.
“I’ll be back in a moment, ok Souta? Stop hovering.” She was starting to get annoyed with his teasing.
When nothing but silence greeted her than she took a drag from her lit stick and turned around to the door.
Nothing.
Ok, she thought as she blew out the smoke, so maybe.. Her thoughts trailed off as she turned towards the dead and alley. She felt something tickle on her sense’s as she knew, just knew, something was there. At least its not threatening, she mused.
“Hey,” she started, “you wanna join me for a smoke, or you just gonna sit out there and watch me?” She took another drag and held the box and lighter out for the stranger.
“What’s wrong with your aura?” The smooth, baritone voice asked from the dark alley way.
“I get pains in my chest.” The miko started with a sigh. “I’ve got a heart condition and it effects my reiki.” She shook the box again trying to coax the shadow out to smoke with her.
“I don’t smoke.” He state again, as he slowly started to leave the shadows. “Please,” he started in a calm tone, “do not get excited.”
Kagome noticed something twinkling on the person as he entered her section of the alley. “You can’t hide from me. Take off the concealment and I’ll flow out. Deal?” She gradually got to her feet, pulling another drag from her cigarette and relaxed her body.
“Miko, it has been a long time, neh?” He took in her appearance, the sneakers where different. To say the least. “Still dressing just as indecent as ever,” he said with a small, crooked smirk on his lips.
Sesshomaru emerged then charm dangling in his hand. His only hand, from his only arm. This didn’t make sense at all. “What happened to your arm Sesshomaru?” A puzzled look crossed the onna features.
“Another time, perhaps, Miko. Will you be here all night?” The once demon lord asked with a hint of anxiety.
“Yea, I work the night sift at the bar. You wanna come in. We can have a drink or two?” She had so many questions to ask him, but his anxiety grew with the thought of going back inside, especially at the bar. His airs* screamed out some sort of discomfort to the miko. “Or better yet, you can be with me. Can you mix?”
That took him by surprise. Huh? “Mix what?”
“Drinks.” Stated the bartender with a small hint of worry now. Taking the last drag of her cigarette she stomped it out and waited. Maybe this was a bad idea, pondered Kagome.
“Oh. Oh, I’ll get the hang of it,” he said with a smile, quickly he continued. “Behind the bar is good.”
“Ok. Well let’s go. Just follow me.” She started to go back in the building, turning around to make sure the taiyoukai was still trailing behind.
He was though, strangely, a bit nervous.
The bar came into view with a very large crowd hold money at Michi. “Hey guys!” The crowd as one turned to the girl. “Let us pass so we can get ya' started, huh?”
With that said Sesshomaru watched as the miko was like Moses parting the red sea, or in this case a very large crowd so they could get to the bar. She hopped over and he followed suite and watched her in her element. He was confused when all she did was turn up the music and wait. He watched her hands as she silently counted out the drink orders and gave him a wink.
“Hey, beautiful. How come Whitey,” indicating with his thumb jerking towards the taiyoukai, “over there gets to stand behind the bar and watch?” The cocky red haired demon from earlier asked. A smug look crossed his face as he waited for her to answer.
“Because, he’s not a jerk who just wants to get into my panties.” With that she motioned for Bart to come and get rid of the asshole near her bar. “Don’t worry. Just watched, k?” She winked at him and she started her flair on 3 martini's and six shots of vodka.
One word came to the dog demon as he watched her mix and pour and serve and drink along with her patrons.
Wow.
Turning to her guest she gave him a shot and clinked glasses. “To good health and good fortune.” She said out loud and downed her drink never showing a grimace as it burned going down.
Oh, wow! This is going to be a great night.
