Chapter VI
Chapter VI:
"Hello, Tokyo Police Department?" asked the young man in a gruff voice.
"This is Tokyo Police Department. May I ask who is calling?" asked the receptionist who had answered the phone in an impatient voice.
"My name is Takeo Yusuke. I'd like to report a crime." replied the high school junior.
"Okay Mr. Yusuke, can you tell me where the crime took place?" asked the staff member.
"In front of the Higurashi family shrine." replied the high school student.
"Can you tell me exactly what happened? And please, don't leave out any details. Be as complete in your description as possible." stated the staff member, the phone sounding scruffed as she prepared to begin typing on her computer.
"Well, you see, there was this young girl. She lives at the shrine with her parents. Anyways, I saw her out front, and was well...going to talk with her about..aw geez, I dunno, about going on a date or something-like-that..." he stuttered, injecting some fake embarrasement into his voice, "and anyways, she was talking with another young girl, and I saw them exchange something, a bag with white powder in it. I think it was drugs of some kind." he finished.
"When did this occur, exactly?" the staff member asked.
"Yesterday morning. I was on my way to school at the time." Yusuke said.
"And which student recieved the drugs?" asked the staff member.
"The one that lives at the shrine. Kagome, I think her name was." he informed her.
"Okay, thank you for your report, Mr. Yusuke. We will call you if we need anything else." said the receptionist, before hanging up.
"Your welcome." he said into the dead phone, his voice returning to normal as a sneer crossed his lips.
'Little bitch. Your gonna get what's coming to you now.'

The official looking car pulled up to the curb, and two men exited the vehicle, one of them looking up to the stairway that led up to the shrine, before sighing. The other one looked at his partner before speaking.
"Lieutenant Sakanami, are you sure about this phone call we recieved?" asked deputy Saji, his voice sounding a little forlorn.
"I don't like this anymore than you do, but we must follow up this lead. Although I have no doubt that this something happened to this girl, if she comitted a crime then it cannot go unpunished. We must verify what we heard." replied Sakanami, glancing at his partner with hard eyes.
The sun was starting to set into the evening sky as the two of them ascended the stairway back to the shrine. The two uniformed officers approached the doorway and rang the bell, waiting to see if anyone was home.
The old man answered the door, and his eyes gained recognition in them as he remembered the two officers from earlier.
"Gentleman, come in, come in." said Sako, motioning to the living room behind him.
"Thank you kind sir. May I ask though, is either Miss Higurashi or Kagome about?" asked Deputy Saji.
"No, I'm afraid not. Miss Higurashi accompanied Kagome to the hospital. I imagine they'll want to keep her overnight." replied Grandfather Sako.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. In that case, may I speak to you about the case?" asked the deputy.
"Why certainly, have you made any progress?" asked Sako.
"My good man, may I use your restroom?" interjected Lieutenant Sakanami.
"Certainly Lieutenant. Down the hallway to your left." replied Sako, almost shooing him away as he settled down to listen to the deputy speak.
Sakanami headed down the hallway, but instead of entering the bathroom, he quietly ascended up the stairs, careful not to make any noise while doing so. He knew, based on intelligence that he had gathered, which room belonged to the little girl. In fact, he had called Miss Higurashi, informing her of the hosptial's decision and whether or not he could bring anything for her. The Miss had requested a change of clothes and a few other things.
Entering into the poor girl's room, Sakanami was struck by how innocent it appear. He couldn't imagine that this girl would be abusing substances, not with the way she kept everything clean. But still, he had to search around. And the most likely place for the girl to have hidden a stash...
He opened her dresser, and began leafing through the piles of underwear and brassiers within. It took him less than a minute to find what he was looking for. With a grim look on his lips, he pulled out the described bag of white powder.
Cautiously, he opened the bag, gently sniffing at the contents within. He quickly sealed it, snorting his nose to rid the smell of what he now knew was cocaine.
'Dammit, I didn't want to believe it. But it's true.'
The Lieutenant's eyes were smoldering now, thinking of how the girl had lied to him, lied through her teeth. No wonder she didn't want to speak to him, the girl must of been afraid of giving away her little secret.
'And I felt pity for the little wench too.'
It's not that he no longer did feel pity for her, but it was for no longer just being attacked. He pitied her for what he was going to have to do to her, and how her parents would react when he arrived at the hospital and carried out his duty.
Descending downstairs, again quietly, he entered into the living room and gave his partner an eye signal.
"Okay, Mr. Higurashi, if we learn anything else, we will contact you." wrapped up deputy Saji.
"Sure thing deputy, lieutenant. Have a safe trip home." said Sako, showing them to the door.
Outside, the two officers descended down the stairway, not speaking until they got seated into the squad car.
"Well?" asked deputy Saji.
"The call was right on the money. Several grams of street Cocaine." replied Lieutenant Sakanami.
"I guess that settles that." said Saji.
"Not quite. I am not looking forward to what we're going to have to do next." said Sakanami grimly, pulling out of the parking space. Together they headed to the hospital.

Just as the officers left, a sheen of blue light enveloped the darkness of the well house, before it faded again into blackness. Out the well house emerged Inuyasha, taking in the scents nearby.
He detected several, belonging to Kagome and her family members, and to several other people, all men. His ears twitched. Wherever Kagome was now, she wasn't here. He could only detect three scents, one belonging to the old man, and two he didn't recognize, the two scents fading as they apparently had just left.
The half dog demon walked to the front door and rang the bell. Grandpa Soka answered, recognizing Inuyasha and letting him in immediatly.
"Inuyasha." the old man greeted him gravelly.
"Where is Kagome?" the young demon asked, looking around the home.
"There's...been an incident, my boy." said Grandpa, heading into the living room.
"An incident? Something happend? Where is Kagome? Is she okay?" asked Inuyasha, a flurry of questions pouring out of his mouth as his ears flattened to his skull, his voice laced with concern and worry.
"You'd better sit down. I'll tell you everything that's happened." informed Grandpa, taking a seat and looking down at the ground.
Inuyasha was feeling uncomfortable by the amount of emotion swirling through the old man's eyes, and the amount of grief he could detect in his emotions.
Then the old man began to speak, and as he continued to explain what happened, Inuyasha could feel his heart start to shatter.
To be replaced by hard, cold anger.
