Sesshomaru...a moment in time

Chapter 6

I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters in this story. I just enjoy creating my own stories of what they should be doing.

I am sorry about this chapter for a few reasons.
1 there's no smut v.v
2. It's really short
3. It's also a bit sad. I'm really sorry I was listening to sad music and I kept thinking of Sesshomaru and I couldnt help it my demon keyboard made me do it. Please forgive OOCness. It is neccessary to the story

Please Read and Review. I truly only feel motivated to write when people leave comments. Trust me its a good story. You'll see when it's complete. I promise that you will love it

The quiet surrounded. Lying handcuffed to a bed, Sesshomaru could do nothing but ponder the turns that his life had made. It was true that he was a great lord. Not many could challenge him and live. Yet with that power came the fact that he would never be happy. A demon of his stature had always been taught to hold in his emotions. There were too many people in his world who would gladly use those emotions against him.

He did not know when the façade had become who he was. As he lay there, exposed to all the world, on sheets as cool as the night which surrounded them, distant memories invaded. Had there never been a time when he could smile freely? His childish face flashed in his memory. In those days when his mother had been alive they were the only times he could remember being free of fear and worry.

Candles flickered and his eyes drifted to the sleeping boy absently, as Inuyasha sighed, holding his brother closer in sleep. A ghostly smile played on his lips. It wasn’t a happy smile, for his mind was assailed with memories of the time when the façade of cold civility had first emerged. In those years as a child when his mother had gone and his father had disgraced their honourable name.

Even so long ago he still remembered that day when he’d found out about Inuyasha. His heart had broken then. Caught in the sorrow of his beloved mother’s death, he’d been in eternal mourning. He still remembered the smile on his father’s face as he’d introduced his new son. Heart broken, Sesshomaru had looked up into his father’s smiling face feeling betrayed that his mother was so easily forgotten. Again he looked at the boy holding him so close. He was the reason for it all. It was all his fault. Even now he still blamed Inuyasha.

He found himself wondering how life would have been different if he’d been able to feel the happiness his father felt upon first meeting his second born. Would I have been able to continue to laugh and smile? It hurt thinking about what could have been. But alas he knew that this was the path destiny had chosen for him. He was the Lord of the West Lands. A powerful demon. This was all how it had to be. Too many depended on him to retain the order. He could not let his guard down. He knew that many would have considered the things he missed so much, laughter and happiness, to be a weakness and he would have spent his life fighting off would be assassins.

Still…

He sighed again letting the silence surround him. He knew deep down that his resentment for his brother resided in the envy he held for him. Why did Inuyasha get to be the one who was so happy? Why did he get the trusted friends and the respect from mortals and fear from demons? Why did he get to be in love… twice? He was only a half-breed after all?

“Why did he have our father’s love?” this he whispered.

Eyes drifting over the boy’s face, he saw a sorrow there, a true emotion that could only show up when in the relaxing grip of sleep. He felt those arms tighten around him again, causing a slight tightening in his heart. He wondered what could have made the boy feel so sorrowful.

Sesshomaru...” the breathy sleep ridden voice whispered. The sound do filled with pain. “Why can’t you love me…” Shock caused his heart to trip. The pounding increased. Inuyasha wanted him to care. He found himself thinking that the boy was indeed greedy, but he stopped that train of thought. He was beginning to realise that all Inuyasha wanted was his love.

He didn’t think he could give it and that caused his face to soften into sorrow at the turn of events. The one who had ruined his life was asking so much from him. And he found himself wanting to give it. What is wrong with me? He was conflicted and he did not like what was going on inside him. He shifted a bit and closed his eyes letting sleep over come him. Can I give him what he wants? His last thought echoed through his mind as the welcoming darkness surrounded him...
