Dinner and An Escort

Chapter Six

"There is someone here to see you."

Kagome looked up from her fake meditating position and stretched the sore muscles. Sitting on the hard floor always left her butt sore. The idea of sitting on one of the pillows crossed her mind but wasn't sure how they'd take it. Her hands ached to rub the tender flesh, no need to give them heart failure. They already found some of her ways odd. Was it so strange that she liked to bathe everyday? Who wanted to walk around with a funky ass? Most of the houshi only bathed once a week, that almost made her cringe.

She walked down the hall wondering who'd come to see her. Only a few people knew she was here. If they only knew what she was really like, they'd throw her out on the street. Good thing they couldn't read her mind, specially for the last few days. The image of that man's firm yet round bottom kept popping up in her mind. Didn't matter that he had tried to kill her, had to give the man his credit. He had a really nice tush, what woman wouldn't notice?

Being around nothing but houshi all the time was slowly killing her sanity. They weren't too bad but there was more to live than praying and meditating all the time. What she wouldn't give for some excitement, something to get the blood flowing. Playing the part of some grand holy woman wasn't for her, she sucked on stage.

The simple truth was she was just an average teenage girl from the future that happened to be the reincarnation of a powerful miko. A series of mishaps had brought her to where she was today, she was nothing special. She longed to live the life of a normal person, she groaned realizing that she sounded like Kikyou. Not that she could blame the woman for how she had felt. Being expected to act a certain way was tedious at best. It was easy to see where the woman had been coming from. Miko's were suppose to be virtious, pure women and meant to do their duties.

Kaede was a big example, she'd died alone. She had done her duty as the village miko, never to know love. Kikyou had fallen in love with someone and had wanted to be with him. She believed that the only way for her to do so was to get rid of the jewel. Things had went bad for them in the end but that was in the past.

Kagome made a promise to herself; jewel or no jewel, she wasn't going to live her life that way. If she could find love again then she'd take it. She'd still do her duty and protect the jewel but fuck the so called image she was suppose to maintain. Happiness was too hard to find, she wouldn't give it up because someone thought she should live her life a certain way. Right century, wrong fucking girl! After everything she'd been through she dared someone to try and tell her what to do.

She was suprised to see the man with the nice tush standing in the main room. Her eyes landed on the bow in his hand, had she left it? That's what she got for being so preoccupied. Okay, there had been the fear that he'd recognize her then try to fix the small oversight. She tried to smile as she approached, it was difficult. "Hello again."

He turned his head to look at her, "Evening, you left something the other day. I thought I'd return it while I had the chance." The few houshi in the room stopped what they were doing to watch the interaction. He was sure they all knew who he was, his presence probably wasn't welcomed. The one in charge had come to him demanding that he state his business. He hadn't missed the look of suprise on his face when the girl's name was mentioned.

Kagome thanked him for bringing it back to her. The stares were begining to unnerve her, she turned to the men. "May we have a few minutes alone please?" She felt like she was home from her first date and her mother was staring out the window to see what would happen.

"Of course, my lady." They got up and quickly left the room, bowing to her as they left. It caused her to flush in embarrassment.

"I was hoping to talk but I believe the walls have ears." Even if they had left when she asked they were still trying to listen in. They seemed to have great respect for the girl atleast. It said alot about her character, also meant she was out of his league. "Would you care to accompany me to dinner?"

Was he serious? He probably just wanted someone to talk to and she was a miko after all. What would it hurt? The most he could do was stab her again. Would he go to jail then for killing a defenseless woman of the cloth? She didn't think he'd attack her in public at the least. It would mean a meal where she could put salt on her food. "That'd be great, let me go put this in my room and I'll be right back." The food here was edible but the cook was very picky. He didn't believe in adding all the good stuff, which meant it wasn't kept here either.

Kagome tried to ignore the stares they were recieving as they sat down at a table. She wasn't sure if it was because of her or him. True seeing a miko was very rare these days but she felt like she'd grown a second head. Some were being rude not caring that it was obvious that they were staring. Thoughts of giving them the finger crossed her mind. Show them how they treated rude people in her era.

Aoshi was sitting across from her, he could see her fidgeting under the stares. He knew it was because she was sitting with him. Someone like her was to be highly respected, she was lowering herself by dining with him. "We can leave if it bothers you."

"Nah, just contemplating. Think they'd freak out if I threw my feet up on the table? We could always give them something to stare at. A belching contest always worked back home." She saw the look he was giving her at the suggestion and laughed. "Don't worry, I don't belch. Atleast not on the first date."

A girl came up to see what they'd be having this evening. Kagome let him order for her since she wasn't too familiar with what was good in this era. The girl smiled at him, Kagome rolled her eyes at the display she was making of herself. Maybe she should tell the girl she was going to rot in hell for her behavior. Then she'd take her ass into the kitchen so they'd be able to eat sometime tonight.

Kagome almost laughed when the girl placed a hand on Aoshi's shoulder touching him intimately. "Laying it on thick aren't we dear." She spoke loud enough for the girl to hear her. Two sets of eyes landed on her, she merely smiled. Well it was the truth, and the truth was the light of the world. The girl should just go ahead and ask him to meet her when she got off work. Seemed they had those types in this era as well. Really what man would want something that everyone else done had? Then again she may be in the wrong, the girl could be his lover. Even if she was, she hadn't come here to watch the two flirt. She'd been offered a meal and she wanted it dammit.

The girl left in a hurry, her cheeks red from embarrassment. Aoshi couldn't believe how outspoken the miko was. The only woman he'd known to be remotely similiar was Misao. He had a feeling that this girl would put even her to shame. "Where did you learn to be so outspoken?"

"Call it a bad habit of mine. I'm suprised she didn't just sit down in your lap, she could have been more subtle about it. Even if I am a miko, I know when a woman is trying to get a man's attention. It was rude of her to do so in my presence, let her stew. Maybe it will teach her some manners." Not that she couldn't understand the girl's attraction. He was extremely goodlooking and very sexually appealing. She could have atleast waited until he was alone. Of course she was stating herself as a miko, so the woman probably assumed that she wouldn't get offended.

"What other bad habits do you have?" He asked curious about her. He was finding her to be entertaining company. He found most women to be borish and dull. The only woman he found he could be around for a period of time without wanting to gnaw his arm off was Misao. But she was like a sister to him and not exactly ladylike.

"I don't think you really wanna know, you might get scared." She took a sip of her tea looking at his face. Did he ever show any emotion? He was starting to remind her of Sesshoumaru, maybe a distant relative. If he started licking his own balls then she'd know for certain.

"Highly doubtful, I don't get scared."

"You don't smile either it seems. You should try it sometime, bet you don't laugh much either." Kagome saw the girl give her a hateful look as she walked past.

"I don't have a reason to laugh." Aoshi watched the many emotions cross her face, it stopped on one of astonishment.

"You can't be serious! Let me guess you have no reason to smile either. You're alive aren't you, I for one am very happy to be alive." She held up her finger mocking Miroku, "One should enjoy the blessing that is life."

"What would you know of it? Someone like you probably hasn't seen much of it. What it's really like out there."

She slapped her hand on the table, getting his attention. "Excuse me, I'm willing to bet that in my few short years I've seen just about as much death as you have. Don't let the outfit fool you, I've seen my share. I got introduced at an early age and against my wishes. I've seen stuff the likes of you will never see or know. You couldn't even imagine what I have been through, so don't you dare preach to me. I have lost people that I loved, even watched them die. I have recently lost my friends, my family, and everything that was important to me. Not to mention I was almost killed by some stupid asshole that jumped to conclusions before he acted. So don't you dare lecture me!"

The girl came back carrying their plates, she smiled sweetly at Kagome. Then winked at Aoshi as she placed the food down. Kagome watched her walk off anger still making her tremble. Before anything could be said she reached over and took his plate. She exchanged it with hers, he stared at her. "She probably spit in mine. "

His laughter echoed throughout the small building causing everyone to look. Kagome flinched at the sound and backed up. Everyone was staring at the display, looking at the man like he'd lost his mind. Kagome gawked at him, "You're laughing, it's not funny. You can eat it, I refuse to."

Aoshi couldn't remember the last time he'd smiled, much less laughed. The look on her face had been priceless. He tried to calm down feeling the eyes peering at him in astonishment. He stopped when he saw the look on her face. "Sorry." He straightened up enough to try and eat his dinner.

Kagome felt like throwing something at him, he was laughing at her. She hoped the little tart had spit in it, would serve him right. They ate their dinner in silence, both lost in their thoughts. Kagome was ready to leave when they were done. The tart smiled at her as they walked past, a smug look on her face. Finally giving in to the urge she flipped the girl the finger, causing several people to gasp.

"What kind of miko are you?" He asked.

"Not a very good one, I guess." She sighed as he escorted her out the building leaving others in shock.

Minoru was waiting for her when they arrived back at the temple. He ran up to her, anxiety written all over his large features. "There you are, thank the heavens. We have some urgent business to discuss with you."

Kagome followed him inside noticing that the other man came as well. She saw the a few others standing along with the head houshi, next to them an elderly man. "What's going on?"

"There you are my lady, we have some grave news. This man is from a village three days north of here.
He brings news of something plaquing their home, he has asked for our assistance."

"Why don't you ask the law for assistance?" Aoshi chimed in. What could a bunch of houshi do?

"We need spiritual guidance, we are being plaqued by a evil spirit. Those that have seen it say it is hideous, a monster. Our village needs to be blessed, this thing stopped. Please, I beg for your help." The man got to his knees in front of her. "Please, spare our village from this evil creature. I have been told of your extraordinary abilities. We can pay you with what we can spare."

"That's okay, keep your money." Kagome almost sighed with resentment. Another quest to save others, now she was getting tired of it. These people needed to stop talking about her like she was a great savior. "I'll go, where is it?"

"You can't be serious. You would send her that far on her own? There has been news of bandits roaming the hills. That man was lucky to have gotten here without being killed." Aoshi stated, eyeing the pathetic man on his knees.

"Actually, I was robbed on the way here. But I promise we could pay you if you'd like once the deed is done."

"Great, nothing like pretending to be Little Red Ridinghood." Kagome smirked at the questioning looks she got. "Oh nevermind, where is this place?"

"You can't go alone, you'll be asking for trouble." Aoshi informed her. If she did the bandits would take more than her belongings.

"He's right," Minoru had to agree with him. She'd need a bodyguard atleast to see her safely there. "Let us hire you an escort, a bodyguard per say. I hear the Oniwabanshu are for hire, we could go to them. Do you think they would take this mission?"

Aoshi looked at the bald man, "Yes, they would for a price. Don't ask me how much they charge, I don't know."

"Well, could you do it?" The village man asked him, "You look like a strong strapping lad, surely you wouldn't want her going off alone."

"You can't be serious!" Kagome almost turned down the job then. She couldn't go off alone with him. Her luck he'd have a sudden memory surge and try to kill her. Not too mention he was a sexy man, he'd be alone with her for three days.

"Fine but I expect to be paid for my time and services. I'll be back in the morning, be ready then Kagome."

"Don't do me any favors." She yelled at his departing back. What a jerkass! How the hell was she going to deal with him for that long? What had she just gotten herself into?
