The Lost

Chapter Five

Youko stopped on the outskirts of the village a week later with Kuronue in tow. He wasn't sure why he was back. He had went back to the Makai to find his partner waiting for him. Kuronue had asked what had happened to him, so he informed him of the fucked robbery down to the human girl that had nursed him back to health. His friend had picked on him to no end, saying he had come smitten with a human female. He denied it, he just appreciated the help he had recieved.

"Let me guess this is her village. What's that smell?" Kuronue sniffed the air. "Smells like old blood and burnt wood.

Youko took off into the village, his eyes widened. Most of the huts were gone including the one he had stayed in. What had happened here? He spotted several people eyeing him warily, his eyes landed on a hoshi standing next to a bunch of graves. Hadn't she said her husband was one.

The man turned around with red eyes, glaring at him. "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

"I am a friend of Kaede's, what happened here?"

"I see, the village was attacked while I was away. I was told it was the wolf lord that resides up north. I plan on going to avenge my wife." The hoshi's eyes became sad.

"Where is Kaede?" Youko got a bad feeling in his gut.

Miroku picked up his head suddenly, "I'm sorry but Kaede is dead." The fox youkai took off suddenly.

Kuronue caught up with his partner who was heading north. "Wanna fill me in? Where are we going?"

"To get revenge."

Sango woke up when she heard Kagome moving around in the small room. "Is it even dawn yet?" The taijiya rolled over and groaned.

"It's after noon actually. How do you feel?" Kagome went and sat on the bed beside her.

"Like hell chilled over ice. What are you doing?" Sango sat up and peered at her. "That's the last time I accept any saki you offer."

"Hmmm, I already puked a few times this morning. Go take a shower so we can head out already."

Sango stood up and walked into the bathroom. She turned the water on and leaned against the wall. Two months ago she'd been taking a cold bath in a stream. Now she was stuck in this era. She remembered the attack on herself, she only hoped that they had left the village alone. Kagome's mother had nursed her back to health. Both she and Kagome tried to get back but the well refused to work for either of them. Neither was sure how Sango had gotten through. She should of have died that day.

Sango had to accept the fact that she wasn't going back and deal with her loss. Kagome had asked about everyone else, so Sango had told her. The girl had gotten upset knowing that Inuyasha was dead. Sango wondered if Miroku thought her to be dead. Was Shippo okay? Both girls managed to pull themselves together and the taijiya was slowly adjusting to her new life. Knowing that you should be dead left one feeling grateful to be alive, regardless of where you were.

Sango had taken off the rosary from around her wrist and given it to Kagome. The miko now wore it around her neck. They were falling into an everyday routine now.

Kagome waited in the room, she put on her jeans and sweater. Winter had kicked in, leaving the days cold and the nights frozen. She pulled out some clothes for Sango. Maybe life would perk up some soon. Being around her old friend made her ache for some adventure again. The last exciting thing to happen to Kagome was that day when those thugs had tried to jump her.

Sango came out the bathroom looking a little bit better. "I'm not sure going to this thing is worth it. I'd rather be sleeping."

"Yeah but I have to drive gramps, so you are coming with me. We will just look around until he is ready to go." Kagome waited for her to get dressed knowing gramps was treading holes in the carpet downstairs. He wanted to be there when the convention opened in two hours. She herself didn't see what was so exciting about a bunch of merchants all gathering in one place trying to rob people of their hard earned cash.

"Okay, let's go. I can hear the old man talking to himself already." Sango leaned over and grabbed her locket off the dresser. Kagome had bought it for her two weeks after she arrived. The locket was rather large, inside was a folded piece of paper. The only thing that she'd had on her the day she should have died.

"When are you going to tell me who wrote you that note anyways?" Kagome asked her. "Had to be more than just someone you took care of."

"That's exactly who gave it to me." Sango frowned. She wondered what had ever become of the fox youkai. She'd never even gotten his name.

"Alright, I'm bored already. Why are we here again?" Yusuke glared at the fox.

"Looking for a present I told you. Isn't Keiko's birthday coming up soon also, you might find something for her as well." Kurama stopped to look at a table. There was different kinds of necklaces and assorted jewelry placed around.

"I think it's all pointless." Hiei looked around. He didn't like being surrounded by some many ningens. It was hard to even walk without brushing against someone you didn't know. "How long are we going to stay here?" The fox had said something about getting food afterwards.

"We will leave as soon as I find something. Have patience Hiei." Kurama picked up one of the necklaces. No, that wouldn't do. He wanted to get his mother something special. He moved to the next table over, this one had paintings. Most were nice, nothing special. One in particular caught his eye. The background was of a woman, her face hiden by her long black hair. Her body was covered by a butterfly. The painting looked alive, you could almost see the wind from the butterfly's wings moving the girl's hair.

"See something you like?" The woman smiled at the red head.

"Yes, I'd like to get that painting there."

"Excellent choice." The woman wrapped it up for him and he payed her for it. It was no more than two x three feet, it would go in his bedroom.

"You getting her a painting?" Yusuke looked at him.

"No, this is for me." Kurama placed it under his arm and walked off.

Kagome held Sango's hand as they walked, so they wouldn't become seperated. She hadn't expected this place to be so crowded. It was hard to move and it was iritating. "Let's go get something to drink."

"Alright." Sango followed behind her, more like being dragged. Her hangover was finally gone, she was thankful. Kagome handed her a drink and pulled her to a table. It was messy, had food all over it. "That's disgusting."

Kagome looked at the table. There was ketchup and mustard, some type of brown stuff and smashed food on the table. "Eww, it is. Let's go find grandpa and let him know we will be at the car waiting. Kagome stood up and bumped into someone, well he had backed up into her. "Shit." Her drink went forward right into Sango's lap.

Sango groaned at feeling the sticky drink go all over her. "Great."

"Hey shithead you could atleast apologize." Kagome screamed at the back of the head that had yet to turn around. The guy was wearing a red jacket and jeans.

He barely glanced her way. "Yeah right sorry."

"Forget about it Kagome." Sango stood up placing her drink on the table.

"Like hell I will." She reached for Sango's drink and tapped the boy on the shoulder. He turned around to see what she wanted. The drink went in his face. "Next time watch where you are going." She grabbed Sango by the hand and walked off.

Yusuke started to wipe the sticky mess off his face. He heard Hiei chuckling behind him. "Shut up that wasn't funny."

"What isn't funny?" Kurama came walking up to them carrying three drinks. "What happened?"

"The detective just got taught a lesson in manners." Hiei smirked.

"By whom?"

"That same bitch from two months ago. The one that got in the fight with us. Kuwabara's damsel in distress." Yusuke recognized her as soon as he had turned around.

"Really, are we ready to go?" Kurama had both items in a large bag. The three started walking towards the parking lot. Yusuke stopped along the way when he spotted a necklace he decided to buy for Keiko. Fifteen minutes later they were out in the parking lot.

Please read and review. So far looks like Hiei is leading.
