I'm a Different Person

“Taisho,” stated a calm shadowed voice, “please explain your encounter.” Not offered a place to sit he stood and looked at the party of man at the shadowed table. Four total, sitting around looking bored and aggravated to no end. War effects everyone differently.

The finality in the voice made the hidden taiyoukai’s hackles rise in annoyance, but he pretended to clear his throat and told them the edited version of their grueling tail followed by the double crossing pilot befitting death.

Hours passed as the party of officials drilled and picked apart the story, making sure there was no holes or other traitors to be found. Sess wasn’t going to leave or sit down, it would seem, anytime soon.

-------------------

Pain. Through her body, pain.

“No, Sesshomaru! Don’t!” He laid down and looked at her. Than sighed out..

She shot out of her bed, drenched in a night sweat so intense that her body was seething with adrenaline and violent shivers. Her back was like a rod straight and cold. She wore nothing but a pair of plane cotton panties and socks. Since the night terrors came every night and soaked her sheets and any shirt she wore she gave up on sleeping attire altogether.

A.. dream again, she pondered. It was the same as the last one and the one before that. He looked at a group of people, all men wearing the same green camies and carrying guns, in some sort of jungle area with over grown vegetation. Than he looked up to the sky, looking at her - it felt like he was-, than he nodded to his group of misfits and transformed. That, unfortunately was not the worst part of the dream. What scared her the most was the sound of gun fire and the liquid fire she felt as it pierced his body almost like she was feeling the pain as well.

Her heart started to clench and unclench in agonizing pain, absentmindedly she put her hand to her chest and scrunched into a tight ball on her small simple futon. She figured the smaller she was the less the pains intensity would cover her body. It did help, a small amount though.

A groan escaped her lips and she rose to her trembling feet to stumble a few small steps to her small kitchen. She side glanced at the black microwave to its digital clock and saw the time was 2:33 PM. Oh, where does the time fly? She thought sarcastically as she turned her stove light on and began to rummaged her cabinets for a plastic cup.

Successful in her search of her prized plastic she pivoted to the refrigerator and poured water into her cup from the reverse osmosis set up in her fridge. Placing that on her counter she went to the other cabinet above her sink and grumbled about her short stature before she groped for her life saver; her sleeping aide, prescriptions.

Glancing around her she looked at her reflection in her microwave and sighed. She looked like that long, lost snowball in hell. A very sweaty snowball, and just as pale. Her hair was in total disarray and smunched here and straggly there. A slight indication of drool was still present on her lower lip and cheek. Going lower she saw her body looked far too pale, her breasts looked larger in the awkward lighting of her stove. She wasn’t a girl anymore, that's for damn sure. Minus the men asking for her number at work, she felt confident and sexy. Just something about not sleeping with a shirt that makes you feel so womanly, she thought.

Taking the two light green pills in one hand and her cup in the other she downed them in one loud gulp. “Ah, crap. I gotta wake up in three friggen hours,” she looked up at the ceiling and yelled. “Are you kidding me!”

She worked in a small bar as part time bartender and in a small band.

Very small. Like her with her guitar and a drummer small.

Yeah.

But at least she was happy. She pointed that out to her mother quite often, for her defense of course. Her mother wanted her to go to college and get a degree, in something. What was the point though? Her grades were.. Well lets face it, shit. She would have to take more school just to go to school. Plus, she explained that she did go to school, Bartending School. Duh!

That never really went very well in the argument, but she did try to make her point. At least her mother stopped with college. Now, its men. “I’m not trying to run your life honey,” Kagome and Souta both rolled their eyes at each other as their mother continued ignoring their faces, “but I think its about time you started to look for.. Well I’m not getting any younger.” Than after the rant she had about a month before the next rant started up again.

As a plus though, her and Souta were getting allot closer. Best friends, you could say, plus the sibling part. She told Souta about Inuyasha. He looked shocked at first, but than who wouldn’t, he remembered though that it was his sister. She was always different, special. He told her about his problems with girls and other high school things. They confided in each other when they needed to vent. For as close as they were they were complete opposites. Granted he was going to college, but that was his choice. He did have the grades after all. She would rather be in a more mellow scene.

It has been three long grueling years since she destroyed Naraku followed by her faze back to her own time, which she proptly vomited afterwards. The ultimate of many problems though were these horrible dreams. She slowly started to turn into an insomniac, because of the pains the jewel caused her body. The pains were connected to the dreams she noticed, cause on those rare moments she didn’t have a night terror she slept. Rare and few those moments.

She never saw the demons from the feudal time, or felt them. Inuyasha never bothered to look for her, personally she didn’t really care. She tried to search for Sesshomaru, but that wasn’t getting her very far. It always led to a dead end.

Always trying though, she always dedicated her songs to him and made sure to share it out loud with the crowd every time. Sighing anew, she decided that train of thought needed to end.

The pains were starting to dull in her chest, or she was getting use to them. A sign it was nearing to return to her bed.

The family knew of her pains. The first time she slept at home from getting thrown into her time she screamed from the pains that the cursed jewel caused to her body. It only got worse as the days turned into weeks with no sign of a reprieve. Her mother sent her to doctors to see if they were treatable. The jewel never came up in scans, or x-rays. Nothing. But her heart beat was.. off. To say it plainly. Her heart had an irregular beat, which caused it to pump twice as hard trying to give blood to her body. The wanted to put a defibrillator in to shock it back into place, but there was no point when the family knew why it was occurring.

The pains only intensified as the family all waited together to come with a plan. The miko was at her wits end. She could feel it slowly draining her of energy; siphoning into the jewel of four souls. “Damn this a-cursed jewel.” She whispered through clenched teeth to no one in the small doctors office, at that moment a decision was made.

Together, they opted for something not surgery related. Pills. Green at night, and blue in the morning. It made her life more colorful to say the least.

So for all the modern science she talked about to her old friends from the feudal era, there wasn’t crap the science of today could do for her now.

Kagome, the Shikon Priestess, Time traveling heroin of old - had to return to sleep.

Closing the fridge along with placing her cup back in the cabinet and slowly walked back to her futon. The pains gradually started to fade as pulled the covers up to her ear on her side, finally she let her thoughts turned back to Sesshomaru. She prayed for any God to watch him and keep him safe.

Fuck anyone else, those were the last thoughts of the once Shikon Miko as she drifted back sleep.

-------------------------

Beep.

“Huh? Wha?” Disorder and confusion aroused out of bed as one that evening.

BEEP! The noise maker grew in impatience and let loose its fury on sensitive bewildered ears.

“Snooze button,” she grabbed and searched with her eyes closed for the source, the clock. “Well, where the hell is that damn clock now?” To aggravated to find the snooze she just wanted to turn the bastard off and grab a shower. She sat up and looked at her naked night stand, only look down and see it on the floor. STILL beeping its little clock heart out.

She snatched it up and turned it around. Searching frantically, as to stop the insufferable beeping, she found and flipped the switched to reset. A relieved sigh squeezed past her, only to add to her annoyance.

Rising, she folded her futon and placed in her closet on the designated shelf, along with her pillow. She grabbed her towel from a shelf below her bed and placed it on the floor. The sheets she threw in the hamper for washing. She took off what little clothes she had and tossed them in the hamper as she passed it on her way to the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, feeling refreshed and slightly less grumpy, she ventured to her kitchen and searched for something easy for breakfast, er dinner. Maybe that will make me less irritable, stupid alarm.

She looked at her fridge and took stock of her findings. Milk, eggs, bacon, cheese, scallions, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, apple juice, cola, root beer, sandwich meat, bread.

“Oh decisions, decisions.” Than she remember a cartoon from long ago and it was like an epiphany. “Omelet du Flamage!” She pondered aloud with a finger on her lips tap tap tapping. Yes, she thought, cheese omelet with bacon and lunch meat. And a root beer. Perfection.

As she gathered her ingredients: cheese, eggs, and reached below her sink for her red frying pan, a stabbing pain came upon her in her ever present chest where the jewel feasts on her life energy. She dropped her cooking instrument and pressed her hand to her breasts. Moaning out loud, “This isn’t my day.” As the last words left her lips a knock came at her front door.

“Not now,” she groaned aloud. “Come back later.” As she walked to her door to tell them again to not knock, the pain grew and spread from her chest to her lungs with ever step she took to the door.

Like the jewel didn’t want her to answer the door or something. Ok Kagome, she coached herself like every time it got bad- granted not this bad, just stay calm. Think calm. You can’t die. It was becoming a mantra to her. You can’t die.

The pain in her lungs started to have side effects such as having the air taken from her lungs. Wheezing, she unlocked the door and turned around back to her kitchen to her pan on the ground and set it on the counter. She felt no threat from them and she needed her blue’s.

Right now!

“Who ever you are, you’re gonna have to wait a minute. It’s that time of the day.” She croaked out, as she went back to her medicine cabinet and groped for her pills.. Where are they? She kept feeling and feeling. Searching with her hands as her eyes didn't seem to be working for her right now. Maybe the urgency in her search. She glanced at her small table and bumbling to the chair she grabbed for it only to see her guest went to her cupboard and looked at her expectantly.

Oh, was all she thought. And..

“Man your tall.” Those words escaped their leash before she could rein them in. She slapped a hand to her forehead. “Blue pills. Red bottle.” She croaked again as she went to her cup cabinet for her worn green plastic cup and scooted to the fridge.

He gave her the bottle and took the cup to fill it with water from the fridge. He watched her gather eight pills and shoved her hand out, waiting for the cup to be placed back in her hand. Watching her down all those pills and in one gulp along with the entire cup of water. “Whoa.” Was all that he managed to come out of his mouth for a moment.

Once Kagome’s breathing was under control, she looked up at her guest only to roll her eyes. “Souta,” she drawled out his name slowly,” aren’t you suppose to be studying or something?” She waved her hand when she said the last world with a little flip.

“I have news.” He stated. Excitement leaking out of him, like her sweat from last night. “We found him.”

“Him who?” Kagome looked slightly skeptical at her younger sibling.

“Sesshomaru.” He breathed out the name and looked at his sister waiting for some a reaction. And he got one.

“Souta, I’ve been up for an hour and I still had an attack.” She waited for that information to sink in before she voiced her idea to him. It sounded crazy, but well she’s had a crazy life so far. “I think it didn’t want me to answer the door cause you had.. Well your news. What fantastic news you have for me little brother.” She started to dance around her small apartment. Acting like a twenty two year old immature woman should, not like a woman with a heart condition.

Souta watched his sister danced and smiled. He wondered about what she said, and as weird as it was, it did kinda make sense for his family and for Kagome. He nodded his head and cleared his throat to bring her back to the now.

She twirled to a stop in front of him breathing labored, but with a generous smile on her face. Than she noticed the serious smile on his face. “What’s wrong?”

“Inuyasha is there too.” All play gone from her face at that statement.

A light bulb went off in her head as she got a great idea and blurted it out. “Get a flyer from the bar and put it in their mailbox for me. I don’t wanna know where they live. Just give them a thing about the bar. But allot or everywhere, I suppose. I don’t care if they have my name or not on them.” She didn’t really care about the fact that Inuyasha would be there. As long as he, Sesshomaru was there, than nothing else mattered. “I don’t care about him, Souta. So don’t worry, ok?”

It did make sense. His sister always had the odd ball idea’s that made sense. “Ok. I’ll do that.” He started towards the front door after glancing at her microwave. Yup, he’ll have enough time to get that done. “I’ll go do that now and be at the bar when I’m done. Later sis!”

“Later...” The door slammed shut before she could finish her goodbye. “Souta.”
