Scene 5 ------------------------------------------- Inuyasha's Forest

* Nearby, a small tornado comes to a sudden halt. Kouga stops to test the winds for the scents that catch his nose. With the wolves' mating season now in full swing Kouga's nose picks up the scent of heat immediately since it's so close. He takes another deep sniff. Wait, two... There's two entities in heat in that direction. He snarls with excitement as he makes his way closer. This should be fun, his inner animal thinks. He is nearly upon the two when he recognizes one of the scents and halts. Under the mikan tree Inuyasha lets the kit hop down to the ground from his shoulder as he gazes up at the beautiful, small round orbs above them. He takes a deep whiff of the gloriously citrus smell then catches another scent. Shippo looks up startled when Inuyasha suddenly looks off to his left and snarls viciously.

Inuyasha - Kouga!!

* An answering snarl from the woods confirms his finding and makes Shippo yelp.

Kouga - Inuyasha!!

* Shippo presses himself over against the trunk of the mikan tree as the wolf leader charges into the clearing. The kitsune looks up when the hanyou places himself in an alert stance between Kouga and himself. Kouga takes up his own stance as he raises his head to take in the swirling scents of the two before him that swirls around the small clearing.

Kouga - Umm... What a find... Two doggies ready to play...

* Just after Kouga speaks, Shippo instinctively raises his head to test the winds himself. The scent of Inuyasha's onset of heat, triggered by his own heat, is now obvious. As is the muskier s scent of Kouga.

Shippo - Oh no... Oh man... I-I got to... get out of... here...

* Inuyasha glances back at Shippo whose eyes are beginning to cloud over.

Inuyasha - No! Don't you move!!
Shippo - But I can't... handle being around... two... uhhh...
Inuyasha - I said don't move... I'll chase this mongrel away then we can...

* In the 'heat' of the moment, the hanyou's instincts nearly take over, but he catches himself before finishing the promise that his brain knows he shouldn't make. Kouga stalks closer and gets his full attention once again.

Kouga - So... The kit's in the mood, is he?
Inuyasha - Stay back!!

* Kouga moves around to where he can get a better look at Shippo. His lips pull back into a feral grin.

Kouga - Ummm... I see he's not claimed yet... Maybe a little young for my tastes, but I've been known to do worse...
Inuyasha - Shippo won't...

* Kouga chuckles when he sees the look in the kit's eyes.

Kouga - Oh, you don't think so?? I always thought you were a little slow upstairs, mutt...

* Inuyasha hesitates, then turns to look down at Shippo. The little fox demon is nearly beyond hope as their two heated scents assault his nose incessantly because of their closeness. Inuyasha glares at Kouga.

Inuyasha - Stay back, I said!!
Kouga - Who's going to stop me??

* Kouga moves down into a crouch and wiggles a finger toward Shippo.

Kouga - Come here, little demon...

* With a renewed snarl Inuyasha leaps to intercept Shippo when the kit stands.

Inuyasha - No, Shippo, I said stay down!!

* Inuyasha whirls to attack Kouga. As the two struggle Shippo shakes his head. It clears just as Kouga throws Inuyasha to the ground and pins him. The wolf leader snarls in the hanyou's face.

Kouga - Well, Mutt, it's either him or you... Either way, I plan to have some fun here...

* Before Kouga can finish the threat Shippo flies over to squirm onto Inuyasha's chest between them and flashes up a quick ball 'foxfire!' that tosses Kouga backward a couple feet.

Shippo - Not because of me!!

* Seizing the moment, Inuyasha snatches a good hold on Shippo, gets to his feet, and leaps up into the trees to beat a hasty retreat. Kouga's tornado follows them but the trees help Inuyasha's escape while they hinder the wolf leader's pursuit. Soon Inuyasha looks back to realize that the tornado is no longer in sight. He pauses on a branch long enough to feel Shippo's heart pounding and hear the kit panting. Slowly, Inuyasha realizes that he is panting himself and knows that it's not from their flight. He drops to the ground and forces himself to set Shippo down. Shippo looks up at Inuyasha as he takes a couple steps back until their eyes meet.

Inuyasha - Sh-Shippo,...
Shippo - Kouga s-said... two...

* Inuyasha nods slightly, clenching his jaws.

Shippo - Inuyasha, are y-you... in...?
Inuyasha - Yes... I felt it... starting this m-morning... Your... your scent yes-yesterday... ummm...

* Inuyasha closes his eyes to fight for control as that confession causes Shippo's tail to reflexively bush out, putting more musk into the air. Then, for several minutes, the two remain still just watching each other. It is finally Shippo that breaks the silence.

Shippo - It... it's obvious that you... you don't want me... I mean, not really...

* With considerable effort, the kit sighs and forces himself to lower his eyes and turn away.

Shippo - I-I guess I... should've known better than to think...
Inuyasha - You can't think...

* Shippo flashes an honestly hurt look at Inuyasha, then stands, and moves toward the woods before Inuyasha can catch his breath to finish the sentence.

Inuyasha - Shippo,...
Shippo - Go back home, half breed!!
Inuyasha - Wait, kit...

* In a bound Inuyasha intercepts the fleeing fox demon.

Inuyasha - I didn't finish my... You took it wrong... I meant you can't think during heat... I know what it's like...

* Shippo just shakes his head and brings up his anger to try to overpower the hanyou's closeness.

Shippo - If you're in your heat, too, then that means that you don't really care about me... You never have before... You don't need me, none of you do... Not even Kagome...
Inuyasha - Will you shut up talking like that!! Kagome loves you... She'll sit me to
h--- if I just let you...

* Before he can finish talking, they both hear the snarling chuckle from the other side of the treeline. Inuyasha turns, bristling, to face Kouga who is leaning against a tree watching them.

Kouga - Thought you lost me?
Inuyasha - Why don't you just go away, ya d--- wolf!!

* Fearlessly Kouga moves right up to face Inuyasha.

Kouga - You're in my territory, that gives me the right to be here... But I've had some time to clear my thoughts while I trailed you here... You say my woman loves this kit??
Inuyasha - Yes, I did... So I'm not letting you touch him, you'll hurt him!!

* Kouga sighs as Inuyasha snarls. Shippo edges back away from them.

Kouga - Then you need to get him out of the open... I can smell his musk from miles away... How long will it take till every demon in the area catches it??

* Now Inuyasha curses and glances around. Shippo feels his tail twitch and tries to force it to stop. Kouga takes a deep whiff once again.

Kouga - Ohhh, this kit smells sooo...

* Kouga catches himself and meets Inuyasha's eyes.

Kouga - There's only one way to get him back to your village in one piece now, mutt... So if you're not going to claim him, step aside...

* Shippo looks up again when Inuyasha shoves Kouga back with an angry growl.

Inuyasha - I said you're not touching him!!
Kouga - You haven't claimed him...
Inuyasha - He belongs to my pack!
Kouga - But he's in my territory!!

* In the next instant, the two males are shoving each other and posturing. Shippo tries in vain to get their attention. Finally he decides to give up and get out of there, fearful that Kouga would perhaps best Inuyasha in this struggle for dominance. 'I need to just find a hole somewhere', he thinks as he dashes away. When he pauses to catch his breath he suddenly realizes that he really has no clue where he's going. As he turns around to scan his surroundings he is suddenly pounced upon. He lets out a startled yelp as he is pinned to the ground on his back too fast to respond. His eyes grow large as he looks up into the very ugly face of a hyena demoness.

Shippo - Oh... no...

* The demoness clamps a hand over Shippo's mouth with a snicker. Then she begins to laugh as she lowers her nose to snuffle Shippo's body so thoroughly the kit blushes.

Hysha - Ummm... You smell... tasty... My name's Hysha...

* Her head snaps up when they hear Inuyasha calling for Shippo a short distance away. Hysha looks back down at Shippo grinning.

Hysha - Very nice to meet you, Shippo... I have a lot of sisters that would love to meet you, too...

* When Inuyasha and Kouga's next calls are closer, Hysha gathers Shippo up roughly and takes off. Shippo cries out and tries to struggle free.

Shippo - Help!! Put me... down, you... old... hag!! Help me, Inu...!!

* In the next instant, Hysha is slammed into from the side by Kouga. She releases her hold on Shippo as she meets a tree rather intimately. The kitsune tumbles head over heels a few feet until he comes to a stop against some thick bushes. Shippo shakes his head and looks up to watch Kouga and Inuyasha both battle the hyena demoness. Now the kit sighs and just decides to stay put for fear that more of her sisters might be in the area. His tail inadvertantly ruffles as he becomes caught up in the battle before him. Three strong beings battling over him. He's actually being defended by those two handsome, virile males. The scuffle attracts more than just his attention now, however. A lone coyote demon moves closer to investigate the commotion. It doesn't take him long to catch Shippo's scent. Shippo is too caught up in watching Kouga and Inuyasha defeating Hysha to notice the coyote peeking over the bushes. As soon as the coyote sees Shippo he ducks back, grins ferally, then reaches through the bushes to drag Shippo back against him. Quicker than the kit can make a sound, the strange demon has his clawed hand over his mouth and is streaking away.

In case you aren't aware, or haven't noticed, I'm not fond of cursing. I don't even care to type the words. So as not to detract from these characters that do display colorful language now and then, I compensate by typing the first letter and let your imagination fill in the blanks. :o)
