Caught in the Snow

Chapter 5

A confession



When InuYasha sat down at the other end of the room Kagome calmed a bit. Why had she said that, she didn’t want to sit all alone. She didn’t mean to scare him of. Her eyes filled with tears, she got as far under the blanket as possible, so he wouldn’t see her crying. She felt alone, in this strange world without her family. And she missed Shippo, Miroku and Sango. They usually got her to laugh after she and InuYasha had one of their fights.



*Why did they fight anyway? Back in her world, and in this world too, they said that if two people fought each other a lot, they really liked each other but just wouldn’t admit it. Would this be true? That would mean she was in love with InuYasha. Was she? Well if he acted so caring she just might. But then they started arguing again she wasn’t so sure of that any more. Why was it so difficult?* Her head was still aching and she was feeling weak. Besides that her temperature was swinging from hot to cold because of her fever. All these factors combined with her thoughts made her really confused.



Her shoulders trembled, he saw it. Even in the other corner of the room he could see, he could hear it too though and she was really trying hard to hide it. That meant his sense came back it wouldn’t be to long before he would change back. *Good, then we can get this over with. The snow Youkai wouldn’t last long against me.* When he had killed the Youkai he would bring Kagome back to her time where she feels good and where she could get better. After they got everything back to normal she could just stay in her own time. He sighed, he didn’t want her to go back. He really started to like her.

*If she’d only knew how she is messing with my head.* He thought. But she didn’t because he didn’t tell her, afraid to be rejected. *Was that it? Am I, InuYasha, afraid to be rejected? It could be, after all I loved Kikyo too, and then she shot me. That was because of Naraku tricked her of course, but still. Is that the reason I won’t tell her?*



He looked at Kagome again. She was really crying now, she couldn’t deny it. She looked so miserable, he wished he could do something about that. Well he could comfort her, but that meant going to her again. He shook his head, she had insulted him. But he couldn’t leave her like that. Oh this was killing him, that stupid girl, but.... he loved her he couldn’t deny it any longer. It was stronger than himself.



He stood up, a long string of white hear fell down. *Hey, I’m Hanyou again!* He had known all along that Kagome was wrong about him. She didn’t know him long enough yet. That’s why she didn’t know that besides his appearance and strength nothing changed about him when he changed from his human form back to hanyou.



*I’ll prove her wrong about me* He walked up to her and for the fifth time he sat down next to her. He gently lifted her in his arms and tried to comfort her. She was crying out loud now. He felt sorry for her, and made sure she knew he was there for here. She lifted her head and looked to him. She got surprised by seeing he was a hanyou again.

“I’m s-s-sorry.” she muttered. “I had no right to say that I hurt you, and...and...”

“Shhh, it’s okay I don’t care what you said. You where wrong because my feelings don’t change when I become human or hanyou. But you couldn’t know that. You just don’t know me well enough yet. Shh it’s okay.” He comforted her.

“But I feel so bad about yelling at you.” She snivelled.

“It’s okay, really.” InuYasha reassured her.

Still sobbing she fell asleep again.



After a half hour she woke up and felt the warmth of InuYasha against her. It was comforting her. She noticed he had lain down on the ground. His soft heartbeat and his scent, they did something to her. She led her head against his chest and held him tight. He opened his eyes and, being caught by surprise, she loosened her grip. Ashamed of what she just did she looked down.



InuYasha hadn’t been asleep but opened his eyes because Kagome hold him in her arms. He opened his eyes, he shouldn’t have done that because she turned her head away. They both lay on the ground, she was in his arms, with the blanket covering them both. He looked back at the fire to check if it was still burning.



“Thanks.” He heard Kagome softly say.



He looked down. What did she say? On the same moment Kagome lifted her head to kiss him on the cheek. But because he looked down the kiss landed right on his mouth. They both looked at each other caught by surprise and turned red. Kagome put her face in his fire rat robe. She was so ashamed, what had just happen? She didn’t wanted to kiss him on the lips, she really didn’t.



“Kagome”

She looked up. InuYasha was looking at her. *Oh no, now he’s gonna shout at me.* She thought. But the expected didn’t came, instead Kagome got the greatest shock of her life. He bends his head towards her and...kissed her, fully on the lips. It was a gentle kiss, a kiss like that from a lover. But that couldn’t be, did HE love her. No way, that was impossible.



“I’m in love with you.”



His words got her back to reality. “Really?” she asked a little uncertain.

“Yes I do. I know it might sound stupid but I truly am.”

“Ehh, I don’t know what to say.” She whispered.

“Then don’t speak.” InuYasha whispered back and kissed her again. Shocked by his confession and his action she pushed him back.

“I’m sorry. It was nuts thinking you felt the same.” He was about to stand up, but Kagome pulled him back on his cloak.

“I-I’m in love with you too. I was just a bit shocked, I didn’t expect you to kiss me. Gomene.” She said sorrowful.



They lay in each others arms for a while. Kagome started to cough. “Hmm, your not totally better, are you?” InuYasha remarked.

“Guess not, do you mind?”

“No why should I, I was just thinking to go and find the others so we could go back and wait till you’re better and have better clothes before we go up here again.”

“You want to do that, wait for me?”

“Of course I do. What do you think girl, I just told you I’m in love with you. So of course I’ll wait.” He smirked “Just get a little better first.” He gently caressed her hair as he looked down on her.



She curled up against him. “InuYasha?”

“Hm, yes.”

“If I take some aspirins I’ll feel a lot better, then we can go.” Kagome told InuYasha

“Isn’t that bad for you?” He asked her.

“No, I always take aspirins to feel better, and they help to make you better.”

“Well then I’ll probably need them too, soon.” he grinned.

Kagome looked at him. “Why?”

“Well because we kissed and you’re still sick, I mean you just might have infected me.”

“Oh yes” Kagome hadn’t thought about that and was shocked. “Gomen I didn’t mean to.”

”Just quit with apologizing all the time. It’s all okay.” InuYasha said calming her.



They decided Kagome should take an aspirin so they could get out and find the others.

InuYasha cleaned their mess and wrapped Kagome in his coat. This way she didn’t have to hold on, and she would have no problem with the cold snowy air. Outside it was still raging, but they had to go or they would never find the rest. After half an hour they took a break in a small cave. Kagome was glad that he did take the blanket with them, although she insisted to leave it in the hut. They got warm again. But after a quarter or so they got up and travelled further.

English has always come easy to me and I must even say that my english is better then my native language (being dutch, don't bother trying to learn its a pain :P). But I still make errors sometimes especially in spelling, I don't mind to make mistakes but it's nice if I can correct them.
