A/N: I apologize now for Kagome’s poor memory &
stupidity…

style='color:red'>Chapter Five:

style='color:red'>A Few Surprises

“Would you mind if I called you that?”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Tora asked.

Kagome turned to look at him, “No, I wouldn’t mind at all.”

“You know, if you want Kyo-sama to do something, all you have
to do is ask him. I’m sure he’d bend
himself into a pretzel for you, K-chan.”

Glad that it was dark enough to hide her blush, Kagome smiled
nervously, “No, he wouldn’t do that.”

Tora smiled, “Oh yes he would. He’s been calling you K-chan since before he rescued you
yesterday. It took me awhile before I
realized who he was talking about. I
finally had to ask him and he said, ‘Higurashi Kagome, stupid!’.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Believe me, K-chan, he would bend
over backwards for you. Just like your
friend Inu-Yasha would.”

Kagome laughed, “What do you know about Inu-Yasha?”

“Well, I know that he and Kyo-sama act alike.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> You can’t tell me you haven’t noticed it?”

“No, no, I’ve noticed.
Believe me, I’ve noticed. It’s
hard not to.”

“Then you should know that Kyo-sama is just as loyal.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> A little more so, though, I must admit.”

“What makes you think that?”

Kagome saw Tora raise an eyebrow, “He doesn’t even put his
arm around your shoulder for goodness sakes.
Kyo-sama would, whether he were dating you or not.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> That’s just how he is.”

Just then, Inu-Yasha came back inside, his face hidden by his
hair. Kagome knew that he had heard
most of the ending of that conversation, so she didn’t even bother with
it. She took the talismans from
Inu-Yasha’s hand and showed them each to Tora.

“Do any of these look like the ones Kyo-kun has?”

Tora looked at them and finally pointed, “That’s the
one. Kyo-kun showed me one just like it
not too long ago.”

“Yeah, well, if Kagome’s grandfather gave it to her, it
probably won’t work.”

“But if Tora says that Kyo-kun has one just like it, well, I
know that Kyo-kun wouldn’t keep anything if it were worthless.”

“That’s right,” Tora agreed, “now all we have to do is figure
out how they work.”

“You mean you don’t know?”
Kagome asked.

“No. I told you, I
didn’t want to know anything about them, thinking that I’d never have to use
them.”

Kagome exchanged a nervous glance with Inu-Yasha, “Kaede
might know how to work it.”

“Yeah, but what about your friend? The one you were going to take for her and Sango?”

“Well, I decided last night that I was going to take Kyo-kun
with me, not even thinking that Sango and Kaede would be expecting a girl.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> But he needs help.style="mso-spacerun: ye We can’t just let him suffer.”

“What are you two talking about? Do you know someone that could heal him?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> If you do, then why are we still sitting
around here for?” Tora demanded as he
rose from the floor.

“Tora, calm down,” Kagome said softly, “we’re going to have
to carry Kyo-kun to my house.”

“All right, but I’m coming with you wherever this Kaede
person is.”

Kagome looked to Inu-Yasha as she said, “You can’t.”

“What do you mean I can’t?
I told you, Kagome-san, that wherever Ookami-sama goes I go, and
I’m not about to change that now.
Ookami-sama may be two years younger than I am, but he’s a hell
of a lot more experienced than I am.
He’s like an older brother to me that just happens to be younger
instead. I’m going with you,
dammit!”

Kagome opened her mouth to protest but Inu-Yasha stopped her
with a look, “He’s right, Kagome. These
two are like Kouga and those twmblimbling idiots he calls friends.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He doesn’t care that they’re not as fast as
he is, all he cares about is that they’re what’s left of his family.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Don’t worry, Tora, I know how you
feel, and I don’t think it matters if we bring one more person with us.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kagome just has to remember to bring lots of
Ramen like she promised.”

Resisting the urge to sit him right there, Kagome nearly bit
her tongue in half.

“All right, all right, he can come. Let’s just get Kyo-kun out of here.” Kagome said as Tora helped to get Kyo over Inu-Yasha’s back, with
Kagome being carried by Tora.

Inu-Yasha made sure to take it easy as he, once again, raced
down the alleyways to get to Kagome’s house.
As he ran past a crosswalk, and nearly toppled an elderly woman,
Inu-Yasha noticed that Tora was easily keeping up with him.

Heh, not bad for a human,” Inu-Yasha thought, “but
how long will either of them last on the other side of the well?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> If they’re as trained as they look, then
they should have no problems. Besides,
if Kagome can manage
...”

A small warning light went off in his head, for it was not
wise to think of Kagome when she was so close to him. Surely if he started thinking about her now, he’d start thinking
about Kikyo as well, and the whole issue of which one of them to choose.

But things were different when he thought of Kagome.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Thoughts of her seemed to make him nearly
run into things, and the last thing he needed was to completely bypass her
house only to be stopped by a stone wall or some other object of the sort.

He reached Kagome’s front door and stopped, his thoughts
almost becoming true as he nearly ran into the door. Tora arrived a few seconds later.

“What are you two standing around for?!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Open the door and head on inside!”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Kagome commanded as she grabbed her shoes,
tugged them off, opened the door, dropped her shoes, and ran towards her room.

Blinking, Tora and Insha sha looked at each other.

“Is she always like this?”

“Yep.”

“Goody.” Tora said as
he, too, removed his shoes and stepped inside.

Never having worn shoes in his life, Inu-Yasha walked in and
shut the door. Kagome soon came racing
down the stairs, her already-large yellow backpack in her hands.

Paying the boys no attention, Kagome started packing food,
medicine, first aid items, and plenty of Ramen... just as she had promised.

“Got enough stuff?”
Inu-Yasha asked.

Kagome glared at him, “Would you rather I left your precious
Ramen behind?”

Gulping, Inu-Yasha shook his head, “Who does she think she
is, anyway? Blackmailing me with those
futuristic noodles
.”

Finished with his thoughts, Inu-Yasha looked around to see
Kagome standing in front of a large white box-like object.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> On it were pictures of Kagome and Sota, and
some other pieces of paper that Inu-Yasha couldn’t read.

Tora went up beside her, reading the same note that she had
been reading.

“Well if this were my house, and I were in your place,
K-chan, I’d invite a few girls over, get drunk, and some other things that I
won’t name because you would then think of me as a perverted drunk.” Tora said as he grinned, which was an exact
replica of the smile Miroku wore after having been placed in a coma by Sango.

Inu-Yasha stepped next to Kagome, trying to step in between
she and Tora.

“What’s he talkin’ about?”
He asked, still trying to pry the two apart.

“My mom is out grocery shopping and my grandfather took Sota
and some of his friends to go see a movie.”

“So? That just means
we don’t have to say our goodbyes before we leave. Which also means your friend can get healed faster.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Inu-Yasha said, trying to get Kagome’s
attention refocused on her still-bleeding friend.

“Oh! I al
co
completely forgot about him!” Kagome exclaimed as she covered her mouth with
her hands, “I feel so awful! Come on,
we’ve got to hurry!”

Stuffing the talismans, which she had been holding in her
hand, into her yellow backpack, Kagome ran outside towards the well house.

Shutting the door behind them, Tora followed Kagome and
Inu-Yasha quietly, wondering why Kagome was heading towards an old well house.

“Tora, come on! Hurry
up!” Kagome called as Inu-Yasha
disappeared into the small wooden building.

As soon as he entered, Tora was led down the steps to an old
well.

Tora ed aed at it, “What the hell is this?!”

“It’s a well, and if you don’t jump in, Inu-Yasha will
throw you in.” Kagome warned.

Still looking at the well skeptically, Tora got onto it,
glared at it some more, and then jumped in.

Kagome breathed a sigh of relief and then caught her breath
again.

“K-chan…”

“Kagome…” That was
Inu-Yasha.

“Yes, Inuha, ha, you can take the hat off now,” Kagome heard
the aforementioned hat drop to the ground, “well, I’m sure Tora’s already worn
a rut in the ground from pacing, so we should go now.”

Nodding, Inu-Yasha stepped towards the well, holding Kyo
bridal style so as not to hurt him any further. He looked at Kagome one last time before also disappearing into
the well.

Kagome hauled her backpack up to her shoulders before sighing
and jumping in.

When she climbed out, Kagome felt Tora’s strong hand pull her
out and begin running towards Kaede’s hut.

“Inu-Yasha already took Ookami-sama to your Kaede, he told me
to wait for you here,” he said, jumping over a rock, “where are we
anyway?”

“This is the Feudal Era, five hundred years in the past.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It’s a long story.”

Upon reaching Kaede’s hut, Kagome let go and dropped down
from Tora’s back. She stopped when he
grabbed her wrist.

“He’s gonna be okay, right?”
Tora asked, sadness coating his words.

Kagome forced a smile, “Of course he is.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> If anyone can heal him, Kaede can.”

A darkness seeped into Tora’s light brown eyes as his hand
tightened on her wrist, “You’d better not be lying to me.”

Her breath caught slightly as he let her go and sat right
outside the hut.

“Aren’t you going to go in?”

“No. I don’t want to see
Ookami-sama in any more pain.”

Kagome nodded, understanding what he meant, and went inside.

When she didn’t see Kyo in the main portion of the hut, she
walked towards a section that had been curtained off. She knocked on one of the hut’s walls.

“Yes?”

“Kaede, it’s me. Is
it all right to come in?”

“Yes, Child. Ye may
enter.”

Pushing the curtain aside, Kagome went inside, talismans in
hand.

“How is he doing?”

Kagome could have sworn she saw something resembling surprise
in Kaede’s eyes, but whatever the emotion was it was quickly concealed, “H-His
wounds are fine, Kagome. Do ye not
notice anything different?”

Kagome looked for the difference Kaede spoke of, and that’s
when she saw it, “The cuts on his face…”

“Are already healed,” it was Inu-Yasha that now spoke, “not
only that, but the rest of him is healing faster than any demon I’ve
ever met.”

A/N: Sorry, but the next chapter is
“Kyo’s Little Secret”, not “Kyo’s Deception”… sorry! I’m thinking that “Kyo’s Deception” will be in chapter 7 instead.
