Caught in the Snow

Chapter 4

The sweet side of the moon



With Kagome now asleep in his lap with her head gently laid to his chest he watched her sleep. She looked so peacefully, so fragile he was almost scared she would break if he would move. He caressed her long black hear. He was moved by her asking to join her under the blanket. She didn’t want him to get cold and she hadn’t gotten angry with him for lying next to her. Looking at the sleeping girl he thought *Ah well, I guess I can use some sleep as well.* While thinking that InuYasha fell asleep.



He woke up because Kagome had moved, her forehead was covered with sweat. He pulled his arm up and placed his hand on her forehead. It felt like she was burning.

*This isn’t good she must have a fever or something* InuYasha worried. Suddenly Kagome started hitting around her. InuYasha decided to wake her, so he gently patted her on her face. The moving didn’t stop, in fact it grew worse. She started to sweat again, little rivers of liquid ran down her face. He patted her a little harder. Her movements got calmer, and she opened her eyes a little.



“How are you feeling” InuYasha asked her.

Kagome vaguely heard something. She was confused *Where am I what is going on? I feel so strange.* She felt a hand on her forehead and noticed that someone was stroking her. Was that InuYasha? It couldn’t be he was never so gentle.

*Ai that hurts* Her hand went to her head *I’m probably having a headache, I’m feeling terrible* she thought



“Are you awake? Kagome?” InuYasha voice came to her from far.

“Hmmm” She moaned

“Ah you’re awake, good” He started to wipe the sweat off her forehead by using a piece of the blanket. He stood up, making sure Kagome stayed under the blanket, and laid her on the floor.

“Where are you going” She sounded very weakly from under the blanket. “Don’t worry I’m just getting you some water. I’d make you some tea but I don’t know how to.” He replied walking out of the door to get some snow. He came back with a bucket full of snow, and set it near the fire. “We have to wait until it’s melted.” He looked up and saw Kagome was trying to get up, he walked over to her and softly pushed her shoulders back at the ground.



“You have to stay there, under that blanket.”

“But I want to help you.”

“You don’t need to, I can melt snow by myself.” He told her irritated *Why can’t she just listen to what I am saying, she so darn stubborn.*

“But...”

“Listen baka, you’re sick, you should be in a bed. I know we don’t have one here so you have to stay under the blanket instead and I don’t want to argue with you about that.”

“...” Kagome’s eyes got teary again.

“Gomen I didn’t mean it so hard, I’m ... I’m just worried about you. I mean, you could die here, and I don’t want that to happen” InuYasha apologized.

“Of course you don’t want that to happen, because then you’ll be stuck with a dead body.” Kagome got angry.

“That’s not the reason. You shouldn’t get so angry it isn’t good for you.” He replied.

“I’ll decide if I get angry or not or what’s good for me. Thank you.”

“No you don’t, I decide what’s good for you.” Now it was his turn to get angry.

“You’re sick and you need someone to take care of you. And I can’t help it if you don’t like being stuck with me, but you have to listen to me. Here have some water.” InuYasha held out a spoon filled with water in front of her. He looked bad tempered.

“I-inuyasha?” She silently said.

“Keh, what do you want?”

“Gomene, I didn’t mean it but I feel so terrible.” Her eyes glistened with tears again.

“Then you should stop being so stubborn because I’m trying my best to help you. I never had to take care of a sick person before. Only myself, and it hard enough without you yelling at me.” He told her.

“I know, I’ll try to not be such a bitch. Okay?”



InuYasha sat down again next to Kagome and placed her head on his lap. Then he lifted her head a little so she could drink some of the water he had melted for her.



“Have you brought those little white thingies?” He suddenly asked her.

“Do you mean aspirins?”

“Well I don’t know, you use them when you don’t feel good.”

“How do you know that?” She asked him in surprise.

“I can feel it when you’re not that well.” He simply said.

“You never told me that.”

“Well if you wanted me to know you would have told me, so I didn’t want to bother you.”

“Oh..., yes I brought them, their in my backpack. Kinda stupid to bring the little one wasn’t it. Then both of us would have a blanket and some other stuff.” She said with a sorry look on her face.

“I didn’t mind sharing one with you. At least it kept you warm. And that was all that mattered.”

“Arigato.”

“...?” He looked at her with surprise on his face.

“For taking such good care of me.” She said before she fell asleep again.



InuYasha awoke again after a few hours. *Did I hear something or was it just a dream? It sounded so real.* He listened carefully, there it was again. It could just be the wind, but he had a feeling this was something else. *Why am I just an ordinary human now, now I’m not sure about what I’m hearing, damn it!* And again he heard a sound, it was close now. Meanwhile Kagome woke up as well, when she moved InuYasha immediately reacted and putted a hand on her mouth so she couldn’t make a sound. With his other arm he pulled her close to him. She tried to get out but even in human form he was far stronger then her.



*What’s going on? Why is he doing this?* She got frightened, she wasn’t even awake for a few seconds and he tried to get her silent. What was going on?

It surprised her but even though his grip on her was firm, it wasn’t meant to hurt her. She looked up at him and tried to make eye contact with him. InuYasha looked down straight into her asking eyes. The hand which had covered her mouth moved to his lips to show she had to be quiet, after that he pointed to the door as if he wanted to say something was there. Kagome relaxed a little, there was something outside that got him worried, but he was with her and he would protect her. She relaxed her muscles and lied back against him. A little curious about what was going on she looked at InuYasha again. He didn’t look back, his eyes where fixed at some point at the wall.



All of a sudden they heard a loud noise and the hut trembled. Now she got scared, she moved closer to InuYasha. He tightened his grasp on her. After a few seconds the trembling stopped and it became silent again. InuYasha stayed silent for another few minutes before he looked at her again.



“How are you feeling?” InuYasha whispered.

“What was going on?”

“Shh not so loud I’m not sure it’s away.”

“You know what that was?” She asked him.

“I believe it’s the Youkai of this mountain. It’s probably looking for a nice meal. I hate to frighten you but that’s probably us if we don’t keep silent.”

“You really think he’ll eat us” The thought of it made her feel even worse.

“Of course he will. There aren’t that many humans on this mountain so if he smells one or two he jumps at it. So keep still and don’t move.” He warned her.

“But why shouldn’t I move?”

“Because then he’ll smell you, if you keep still your scent won’t spread as much. Keh, why is this happening now I’m a human. I’m sorry but I’m afraid I’m not able to protect you if he finds us. Unless its morning soon I don’t stand a chance. Do you know how far morning is? Don’t you have some device to tell that?” He had just remembered the little device she wore around her wrist. She seemed to be able to tell the time with that little thing.

”No, my watch doesn’t work because there’s water in it. Gomen.”

“It’s okay.”

“You’re not mad about it?” She asked him.

“No of course not.” He looked at her in surprise. “Well let’s take a look at your temperature.” He said to change the subject placing his hand on her forehead. “Your asperthingy is working I guess, you’re not that hot. That’s good, but you’re still sick.”



InuYasha got from under the blanket and got some water for Kagome. She curled up in the blanket, she looked sad. *Poor girl she’s in another time, on a mountain she didn’t want to be, and stuck with me, the one person she doesn’t like plus she’s sick.* He thought while looking at her.

“Eh, how do I make tea?” He asked her, wanting to please her a little.

“Huh? Kagome looked up in surprise. “Eh, you have to boil the water above the fire, you pour it in a cup and put a teabag in it for a few minutes. Then it should be good.”

“Oh, okay.”



He went closer to the fire in order to boil the water, with his back to Kagome.

*Why am I so worried about her? I mean I know I promised to protect her but I never felt so worried about her before. I can’t start having feelings for her. She only has me sticking around for protection while she is looking for the shards and besides that, I’m a hanyou and she’s a human from another time. She’ll probably go back to her own time when we found all of the shards. Where does that leave me? Arrgh this is confusing.* These thoughts where racing through his head as he waited for the water to boil.



The water started to boil so he got the kettle off the fire, and poured the water in the mugs. After he added tea bags to the mugs he went back to Kagome and sad down next to her. He gave her a mug and drank some of his own.



“Itai!!!” He yelled “That’s hot.”

“You should wait a little before you drink it, it’s hot.” She explained to InuYasha.

”I know that, I just forgot.” He muttered.



An ice wind blew over the ground, Kagome shivered and InuYasha held her closer so she would be warm. It soon would be morning again, that meant that InuYasha became a hanyou again. It would be safer for the both of them, but what would happen then? *He probably got back to his grumpy self again. To bad, I like him when he’s so caring for me.* Kagome thought.



“Something wrong?” He asked her.

“No everything is alright.” Kagome said.

“Are you sure?”

“YES, I’m fine.” Kagome replied agitated.

“Well sorry to be so concerned. I’m only trying to help you know.” InuYasha looked away.

“Yes I know, but do you really have to go on about that.”



She knew she was going over the line now, he didn’t went on about it he was only concerned and she actually liked it. Why did she have to say that?



“If you think about it that way, fine, then I don’t bother you with my stupid questions. See for your self, if you know better.” He said furiously

“Fine, you don’t mean it anyway. When you’re a Hanyou again you don’t care what happens to me anymore, so just drop the act okay.” She went raging on.



The last thing she had said had really hurt him. How could she say it was just an act, didn’t she see that he really meant all of it. It wasn’t just a silly act, he really cared about her and he was on the point to tell her, but now it was no use. When she was feeling better he would leave her in the hut and kill the Youkai. Then they would go down and he would bring her back to the well so she could go home to get better. When she got back they could continue the search for the shards and finish it as quick as possible. After collecting all the jewel shards got it whole again and killing Naraku, Kagome could go back to her time for good. He would go back to his old lifestyle and everything would be fine. He walked over to his coat and pulled it over his shoulders. Luckily it was dry again, now he didn’t have to share the blanket with that stupid girl. Not that she would allow it anyways.

Just to clarify the story a bit. This story takes place somewhere in the beginning of the series. They gathered the whole group and are now looking for the shards, they are still spread throughout the country.



This is the first story I ever wrote and I would like comments on how to improve it. Especially since I'm currently working on an OS (being posted on deviantArt) suggestions on how to improve my writing would be nice. So if there is something you want to point out to me feel free to comment :D
