Chapter 5.

A few days past before Inu-Yasha and the gang to track down Naraku's palace but they arrived eventually. Kagome followed closely behind Inu-Yasha for protection, Sango and Miroku walked behind them all were ready to fight. Shippo had been forced to stay in Kaede's village, though the fox was rather displeased. Kagome was terrified of facing Naraku, she worried about she and her friends not being prepared for the battle. The miko ignored her fears, however as Inu-Yasha's safety from his brother was of lasting importance, besides Kagura did not deserve to be a prisoner to Naraku. No one deserved that.

It was Kanna who first noticed the gangs approach, in loyalty to her sister she told Kagura first. Kanna walked down one of the many palace hallways until she came to Kagura's room. Because of her disobedience to Naraku Kagura had been consistently beaten by him for the past several day since her return from Sesshomaru, thankfully he had not raped her again. Kanna held little emotion on the subject but that was only because she had little emotion on any sut. Tt. The void demon found her sister laying on her bed mat with bruises still evident on Kagura's face and arms. Kagura woke when Kanna touched her shoulder. Kanna needed no words to communicate, from sisterly instinct alone, Kagura knew what Kanna had come to tell her, Inu-Yasha was at the palace. Now Kanna ran to tell Naraku and Kagura applied makeup to hide the bruises. She would certainly be facing the hanyou, there was no way that she would allow him to see what she had suffered at Naraku's hand, there was no way that she would look weak in front of that hanyou.

It did not take long for Naraku to order Kagura into battle. Kagome was not at all surprised at seeing Kagura come out of the palace, how could she have known that they were here to free her. Inu-Yasha growled and prepared to fight, Kagura may have been Sesshomaru's bitch but that did not mean that he was not ready to fight her if she attack them. Inu-Yasha had no intention of killing the Wind Witch, but he might injure her if she put up too much of a fight. Kagura did not wait for Inu-Yasha to attack first, she opened her fan and used the Wind against the hanyou. Sango and Miroku got out of the way and now tried to sneak into the castle. Inu-Yasha blocked the Wind with Tetsusaiga and Kagome hides behind him. Once the Wind dissipated and Inu-Yasha prepared to attack Kagome darted out from behind him and Inu-Yasha charged at Kagura. The Wind User was distracted by Inu-Yasha's charge and did not notice Kagome, Kagura sent out another gust of wind, she and Inu-Yasha were now locked in battle.

The plan was in place, Sango and Miroku set out to engage Naraku. If they could just keep in distracted for a few minutes than maybe Kagome could get the heart, as disturbing as that was, and they could all leave in a hurry. No sense getting into a drawn out battle that could end up killing them. The pair got their wish, Naraku attacked them with tree like limbs, this was nothing knew, he had attacked them like this so many times before. Sango attacked with the Hiraikotsu and Miroku with his staff, it seemed that Naraku was bored today so he did not seem to notice the parameter of his chambers being breached. Kohaku was nowhere in site, nor was Kanna, though that could be because her mirror had yet to be successfully mended after it shattered in her only real encounter with Inu-Yasha and Kagome.

Kagome looked desperately around the room wanting to get the heart and to get out of there as fast as she could. After a few moments Kagome noticed something seeming to beat a reddish light and realized that the pulse was coming from to jars. Using her miko intuition Kagome guessed which jar contained Kagura's heart and took it from the shelf. Because of her miko powers the wards on the jar were lost, Naraku would be unable to squeeze Kagura's heart now on command. In the battle with Sango and Miroku, Naraku still did not seem to notice the change in the jar, or Kagome's presence at all. The young girl raced from the palace and was soon waiting by Kirara, she released an arrow into the air as a signal to her friends. Miroku saw the signal first and directed Sango to its presence. They job was done so the pair quickly retreated. Inu-Yasha saw the signal too and was about to disengage from Kagura when Naraku came up from behind the Wind User and grabbed her by the throat. Kagura opened her mouth to gasp but no air could escape, she clawed at Naraku's hand but he would not let go. The Wind User's arms became heavy, she could not breathe, she could not think, he sight was become blurred. 'Is this show I am to die?'

"Oh no you don't Naraku!" An arrow flew through the sky and hit Naraku in the shoulder. The evil youkai was forced to drop Kagura, he and his castle began to fall apart. Once again, Kagome's purifying arrow had beaten him. Kagura did note the the strength to move quite yet and the castle crumbled around her. Kagome yelled for the Wind Witch to move, what was the purpose of stealing her heart for Sesshomaru if she died? Some how Kagome was certain the Sesshomaru would be angry if Kagura died. He would probably go after Inu-Yasha for vengeance!

Out the sky Sesshomaru came from his chariot. He leapt down just as Kagura was dragging herself to her feet. The Dog youkai looked rather irritated and immediately set to reprimanding Kagura for disobeying him: "I told you to stay in camp!" The Wind User looked almost angry had Sesshomaru. "You baka if I had stayed Naraku would have killed me! He still will now!" Sesshomaru gestured to Kagome who with the help of Inu-Yasha lifted the jar up high for all to see. Kagura practically fell over with surprise. Her heart…. They had successfully stolen her heart from Naraku? "No not disobey me again Wind Witch, I have everything under control," Sesshomaru simply did not like being disobeyed. "Why you…" Kagura was not allowed to finish her sentence for Sesshomaru tossed Kagura over his shoulder and he leapt back up onto his chariot. Jaken retrieved Kagura's heart from Kagome and the chariot flew off.

From below Kagome snickered at the expression on Kagura's face: "I think they make a cute couple."
"That's disgusting," much like before, Inu-Yasha looked ill. Miroku and Sango laughed.

Kagura fumed the entire ride back to Sesshomaru's camp. How dare he treat hike ike she was subservient to him? When they did arrive at the camp he directed Jaken to build one fire where they stood and another a good ways away from the camp. Jaken did not disobey. Rin hugged Kagura around the legs once Sesshomaru had placed her on the ground. Kagura padded Rin on the head gently, she was a bit awe struck and at the same time, kind of liked the human child. Sesshomaru told Rin to go to make food and then go to bed once the fire was lit. Rin did as she was told, as usual and Sesshomaru took Kagura to the second fire he had had lit. The Wind Witch saw no reason to argue, although he was obnoxious, she did like Sesshomaru and it seemed he had had Inu-Yasha and his friends steal her heart. This was as close to freedom as Kagura had ever gotten. It was close enough for now.

A blanket lay ready by the fire, Sesshomaru was pleased that Jaken had actually done so without being ordered. The Lord of the Western Lands wrapped his arm around Kagura and claimed her mouth with his own. Kagura melted into the kiss.
