Returning To You

Chapter Thirty-Four


Yusuke blocked the blows as the fire youkai went for him. He wasn't sure what all entailed him marking the girl meant but Hiei seemed pissed. A punch landed across his jaw knocking him back, he swung at his friend. His punch landed in Hiei's stomach but didn't seem to faze him.

Kurama came in with the staff wrapped in the cloth Koenma had given him. He was shocked to see Hiei attacking the other man. Naturally he assumed it was due to the near rape. He glanced over, the girl appeared to be fine. He sent vines up wrapping them around the shorter man's legs. "Hiei, stop now."

Hiei turned and scowled at the fox. "Don't interfere."

"The girl is fine, Yusuke had no control over his actions." Kurama tried to calm him down.

"Really? And will you feel the same way once you've taken a better look at your woman?"

Kurama stopped to examine everything more closely. First his eyes took in Kagome, then he saw what had made Hiei angry. In his possessed state Yusuke had marked the girl as his. His stomach fell but he still turned to look at Sango. She had her head down looking at the ground, his feet carried him over. His hand grabbed her chin forcing her head up giving him a clear view of the mark. Anger filled him at seeing it placed on her. His mind tried to tell him that the man hadn't known what he was doing, that he hadn't done it intentionally.

He could sense her despair and fear. He pulled her into his embrace and held her against him. "Are you injured in any way besides that?"

She shook her head no, words failed her. His hand was placed on the top of her head, his head lowered. Her arms came around him, her fear eased. He placed a kiss on the top of her head.

"Um what's going on?" Kuwabara was stunned. First Hiei attacks Yusuke and now Kurama was making out with one of the pretty girls. "Hey I thought you guys said they were lesbians. I know Kurama looks like a girl but doesn't he have a penis."

"Shut up fool." Hiei burnt the vines restraining him. Seemed the fox didn't care if his partner had marked the girl. He looked at the boy watching him, "Know this, touch her and you will die."

A portal opened up beside Kuwabara causing him to jump. Koenma stepped out now that the danger was over. "Great job." A few people turned to glare at him. "Yes, well lets get out of here." He retrieved the staff off the ground were Kurama had dropped it. He gasped. "I told you to retrieve it, not break the damn thing."

"You are lucky you got it back at all."


Kuronue sat against the tree tensing when he saw Kurama walking towards him. He knew it was coming and had came out to be alone. Better to get the confrontation done with now. Two hours ago Koenma had sent the girls and the houshi back home to the shrine, while the others had come here for a meeting. Not having anywhere else to go he had come here. Plus, this needed to be done. So he had hung around waiting for the man to finish with his talk and get it over with. Now he stood up waiting for the confrontation to begin.

"I have one question."

"What is it?" He folded his arms across his chest.

"Did you know Sango before? When was the first time you saw her?"

Kuronue wasn't sure why he was asking but he answered. "The first time I saw her was when I watched you two together with the staff. I didn't see her in person until she'd been taken and brought to me. Why?"

"Very well. A misunderstanding that I had that is now cleared up." Kurama felt his heart lighten at the fact that she hadn't known him before. Which meant the day she spoke of losing someone she had to been refering to himself. He secretly hoped that the words of love she had spoken had been for himself. Which meant he was about to hurt her for a short time but it had to be done. "I will accept the fact that you had no control over your actions when you marked her. I will be leaving for awhile to head into the Makai. I'm not sure how long I will be gone. I will not touch her while she carries your mark out of respect of the relationship we once had and I hope still share. But I will give you only one warning; If I find that you consumated the mark in my absence I will erase it another way. I have every intention of claiming her for my own and I have no wish to kill you if it can be avoided."

"I see. So are you going to abandon her now?"

"I will leave, I have to. I cannot be around her if I can't have her, it will be too much." He turned and walked away. His feet carried him over to Yusuke, he spoke to the boy for several minutes. He walked to the edge of the property where Hiei was waiting for him.

"Hn. Are you done?"

"Yes, we can leave now." He saw Hiei leave and he quickly followed.


Kagome walked out into the yard to spot Sango standing in front of the large tree watching the wind blow the branches. She sighed to herself and tried to smile. Yesterday, Yusuke had stopped by informing them of both men taking off. No one had any idea when they'd be back. He had delivered a package to Sango from Kurama.

Sango had her hand resting on the locket that was once again resting around her throat. She turned and saw Kagome standing beside her. "Hey."

"How you doing?"

"Okay." She stared up at the tree letting her thoughts wonder. She wasn't sure what to think about Kurama taking off without saying goodbye. He hadn't seemed upset over the fact that Kuronue had marked her. Yet he was gone, he'd left her once more. If it didn't matter then why wasn't her with her? A tear slid down her cheek.

Kagome felt her pain but didn't know how to comfort her. She reached out and grabbed her hand giving it a squeeze. They would make it through this. Maybe the guys would return one day, maybe they would never come back in their lifetime. She looked up into the blue sky and sighed. No matter what happened they would always have each other.
