Returning To You

Chapter Thirty-Two

Kagome woke up alone. She rolled over and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. Her senses told her that Hiei wasn't in the room with her either. He wasn't even in the apartment any longer. A knock on the door forced her to get up and hastily put some clothes on. "Morning Sango."

"They left without us, lets go." Sango was already dressed in her taijiya outfit with weapons equipped.

"Right." Kagome quickly got dressed and grabbed her bow. "Why did they leave without telling us?"

"Why do you think? They don't mean for us to go. Let's hurry they will be leaving in about five minutes." Sango called for Kirara who was sleeping on the couch. The neko ran for the door and waited. As soon as the door opened she transformed.

"I can't believe those two." Kagome blushed at recalling the night's events. She jumped on behind Sango and they were off. "Why don't they want us to go?"

"You're guess is as good as mine."


They arrived at the temple a little late. Koenma had already closed the portal sending the guys straight infront of the castle. He looked suprised to see them land. Kurama had just informed him that the girls wouldn't be going. "I take it you two are going anyway. I have already closed the portal, they have been gone for over ten minutes."

"Try and stop us. Now open it." Sango demanded, she was going to give Kurama an ear full. Those two were about to get a suprise. "Let's go Kirara." The neko jumped through the portal and into the Makai.

They looked around at the strange place. A large castle sat some distance away, it looked dark and gloomy. A large black mist hung over head enclosing the area in darkness. Not much different from the time they'd been after Shiori. Sango could barely make out the outline of the guys up ahead. They were being surrounded by thousands of the creatures.

"Sango look." Kagome saw it also. "They are surrounded. We have to do something."

"Last time taking the cloud out stopped it. Think we should try it?"

"Yeah, have Kirara get us as close as she can. You'll have to take care of any interference but I'll try."

"Right, Kirara take us to the center of that cloud as close as you can." Sango took Hiraikotsu off her back, they were sure to meet resistance. The neko took off in the air at top speed. "Here they come, get ready. Try taking out that large group to their left."

Kagome looked down to see the large group. She notched an arrow, took careful aim and released.

"Dammit, theres too many of them." Yusuke knocked one that was about to tear off the houshi's head.

"I agree," Miroku silently thanked the man. They were quickly being over run, the small group couldn't kill them fast enough. He suddenly wished he had his kazaana, it would have came in handy.

"Stop your whining and kill." Hiei sliced through another. His senses suddenly told him to back up, he landed several feet away in time to see the creatures start exploding.

"Look." Kuwabara pointed high in the air.


Kagome watched as her arrow hit one in the chest causing him to explode. The purification energy exploded, it hit the one standing next to the fallen one. Within a second it exploded as well starting a chain, "Got them." They watched as the chain continued and the creatures burst one by one. They seemed to stupid to move out of the blast range.

Kirara dodged to the left as one of the ones with wings appeared before them. Sango struck out slicing him in two, "Get us up there now." They shot straight up trying to get Kagome within shooting distance.

Hiei growled, "I'm going to kill him." They'd informed the little bastard not to let the females through if they showed up.

"They are going for the source." Kurama felt his heart plummet seeing the remaining ones heading straight for the girls. "Dammit, they aren't going to make it."

Sango was trying to strike them down as they came but they were becoming relentless. Kagome fired another arrow taking out one. "Shit, we need to hurry. I'm not going to be able to keep them off for much longer."

"Look out." Kagome screamed as one suddenly appeared beside them claws raised. Blood sprayed across their faces before it fell to the ground. He fell to show the bat youkai behind him weapon in hand.

"Go, I'll keep them off you." Kuronue flew beside them taking out the approaching creatures. He hovered near them when they were in place.

Kagome took aim at what she considered the center. It struck and began to pulse, "Its working, lets get down."

Kirara headed towards the group on the ground as the cloud began to disappear in a bright light. The neko landed next to Miroku who greeted them warmly.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Hiei lashed out at them. "We left you at Kurama's for a reason."

"We don't need your permission." Kagome yelled at him before Sango had a chance to. "You had no right to try and stop us from coming. Besides we just saved your ass."

"You did no such thing."

"We did to, I somehow doubt even you can fight forever." She pointed out the obvious which he didn't appreciate. He scowled at her, so she extended her middle finger.

"I for one am grateful of your arrival." Miroku stated.

"Shut up monk." Hiei wasn't about to admit that they had needed the girl's help.

"Enough you two we need to get inside." Kurama looked over at Kuronue who was standing right next to Sango. The man had his eyes on her not looking away. "Let's go."

Sango jumped off Kirara, Kagome followed her. The group started their run into the large castle. They entered a large courtyard that was littered with bones. There was two doors before them leading off into different sections of the castle.

"I guess this is where we split up." Kuwabara got a bad feeling about it.

"Yes. We will take the door on the right, the others take the left." Kurama looked over at the two girls.

"Kirara, go with Miroku." Sango sent the neko to watch over the houshi. She looked towards the door they'd be heading into.

Kurama walked next to Yusuke and spoke loud enough for only him to hear. "Don't let anything happen to either of them."

"Right. Or you and Hiei will kill me, I know." He threw his hands behind his head. What were they worried about seemed both girls could defend themselves. He walked over to his so called team, "Lets go." The bat youkai took off first, the two girls followed behind him leaving Yusuke behind. "Dammit wait for me."


Kagome and Sango ran behind the two males weapons ready, prepared for anything. They got to another courtyard and looked around. So far there was nothing but grass, it was almost peaceful. A large statue of a bird was in the middle looking down on them.

"Something isn't right." Sango felt the hair on her arms begin to stand up and a shiver went down her spine. The statue was begining to emit some type of magic into the air.

Kagome felt it also but nothing seemed to be happening. Suddenly a beam came out the bird's eyes headed straight for her and Sango. Yusuke grabbed her around the waist moving her out the way in time. She turned her head to see Sango in Kuronue's arms. Then her view of them was cut off by the appearance of a wall.

Yusuke looked around as they were quickly surrounded on all sides by some type of wall. "Dammit, I don't suppose you can fly?"

Sango saw the walls go up surrounding her and Kuronue. They were up before they could move in time, he took to the air only to hit a barrier. They came back down suddenly, she rolled out his arms.

He growled at her, "Get away from me." He was squatting on the ground with his hands fisted. Something was working it's way into his skin, he felt the magic caressing him.

Sango took a few steps back, she could feel it also. Yet it didn't seem to be attacking her only the man on the ground.

Growling was coming from him as they magic became thicker. Whatever was happening he was trying to fight it and losing.

Kagome looked around, Yusuke still had his arm around her waist. She looked down, "Hey you can let me go now." Still he didn't move, his grip tightened. She grabbed his fingers and tried to pry them off. "Yusuke." She screamed when she felt something sharp pierce her neck.
