Possiblities
The Queen of Misunderstandings sat proudly on her throne thinking to herself. Was she living up to her reputation? She reached into the box in her lap and hands a Hiei shaped cookie over to her silent partner in crime. "Here. Tell me what you think about this next chapter."
"Not bad, got some good angst going." The Queen of Darkness shoved the cookie in her mouth devoring the little Hiei replica in one bite. "I think you need some more blood. Someone should atleast lose an eye."
"Maybe, I'll think on it. Here have another cookie."
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Kurama tensed at her words, what had she said? Again? His eyes fell to the man laying on the ground, the man he had trusted more than anyone at one time. Could it even be possible? Was that why she was so quick to forgive him, to protect him? Had they known each other before? She had known that he would want the pendant back, that it was important to him. How had she known? He doubted that while Kuronue was raping her he'd let something personal slip.
Was it possible that on the many occasions Kuronue had slipped into the human world by himself he had been going to see her? Was that why she hadn't been happy with her husband because she harbored feelings for another man? No, Kuronue hadn't recognized the village that he'd taken them to. Yet, he had no idea how long they had been living there either. But he hadn't reacted when the houshi had told them that she was dead.
A gasp tore through his throat, the houshi had said Kaede was dead. Not Sango. Was it possible? Then he remembered the kiss. At first Kuronue had been brutal until she had removed the pendant. Then it had softend even he had seen that, what had the man whispered to her? Had it been his old partner she'd been thinking of when she'd spoken her words of love? Anyone could see that she wasn't in love with the houshi.
It couldn't be true! Was that why she'd been so upset when he'd stepped out? He'd never known Kuronue to let someone strike him without retaliating but he'd stood there and tried to comfort her. His mind didn't want to accept it. Hadn't she held on to him as soon as the spell had been broken, he remembered seeing her arm latch around his neck. Had she been glad to finally have her old lover back? Was that why he looked so remorseful because he had hurt her?
All the facts pointed to it and her words had just condemned her. He felt like a fool, he fallen for someone that had been lost to him before he'd even met her. If anyone had reason to be upset it was Kuronue, he'd slept with Sango. But he hadn't known, she hadn't said anything. Then again why would she? She had no idea that him and Kuronue had known each other. Nor that the other man was alive.
Sango watched the emotions going through his eyes, most of them she didn't recognize. He wasn't even looking at her, his eyes were glued to the man on the ground. Why wouldn't he look at her? Instead he continued to ignore her presence. A look of being defeated entered his eyes and he pried her arms from around his waist. "Kurama?"
"Don't touch me."
His harsh words caused a block of lead to form in her chest. Why? She'd just admited to not wanting to lose him and yet he would still push her away. "But."
"Get away." He took a step back. "You need not worry, I will not try to harm him again."
Sango was glad to hear it but she'd hadn't been worried about the other man. He hadn't even entered her mind truth be told. Her only thoughts had been for the man she'd been holding. True she didn't want the other man to die but she could live if he did.
"I'd hate to break this up but I believe we have an important matter to attend to." Koenma knew it could wait but the situation was getting too intense for his liking. "I ask that you all come inside for the time being, we have the location of the staff."
Sango tried to listen as Koenma told them of the plan to go get the artifact back. Her eyes kept falling on the red head with his back turned to her. He hadn't even looked in her direction again, they would be going to fight this guy soon.
Koenma wanted them all to head out in the morning to retrieve the staff. They were to meet back here in the morning to regroup and head out. The toddler informed the humans that it would be best if they stayed behind.
Sango and Kagome both had something to say about that. They started screaming at the poor man at the same time. He jumped back at the verbal attack, finally he gave in to let them go. They chose the groups carefully; First group would be Kagome, Sango, Kuronue and Yusuke. The second group was Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara and Miroku. They decided each group should have someone with holy powers. Also Koenma though it best to split up Kurama and Kuronue for the time being. It wouldn't be well for them to start fighting while on enemy territory.
Sango and Kagome had to go back to Kurama's since their weapons and belongings were there. Miroku and Kuronue decided to stay at Genkai's. Sango was sure Miroku's reasons had something to do with the blue haired woman that had arrived with Koenma.
Kagome asked Kurama for the keys so they could get in, night had already fallen. They would need some rest for tomorrow. So both girls jumped on Kirara and headed on over.
