Questions and Revelations

“He is acting strange.” A soft whisper was hidden by the sound of the crackling campfire. It was hidden by the happy singing of the kitsune who was holding out a stick of impaled marshmallows. This wasn’t the first time Kagome brought marshmallows to this world, but it was the first time Inuyasha didn’t seem interested. Kagome glanced back up to Inuyasha after expressing her concern. In a tree again, what else did she expect? Sango brought Kagome’s attention back to their conversation with a soft sound of agreement.

“It seems to me that he has been spending a lot of time thinking,” Sango said softly, “I mean it was very sweet of him to bring all those heart nuts to you the other day. He seemed really sincere when he apologized.”

Kagome blushed. It was romantic, unexpected, and unlike Inuyasha. A few days ago she was crying her eyes out, convinced that Inuyasha really was avoiding her. She was convinced that he really was just rejecting her shy stumbling motions of love.

Pushing her to the ground certainly did seem like a big rejection at the time. It was the kind of rejection that made Kagome long to go home, watch mindless television, and eat as much ice cream as possible. Preferably she would eat as much chocolate ice cream as possible, and meanly remind herself that Inuyasha couldn't have any. She learned very fast that Inuyasha was, just as any dog, allergic to chocolate. She had been just about ready to leave with the well wishes and condolences of her friends, who were also convinced that Inuyasha was sloppily wavering between making her think that he had feelings for her and being an ass.

Kagome thought it was worse than unfair. It was devastating. It sunk her spirits so low that she could only feel the pain of deep sadness in her body. It made her nauseous, and the abundance of tears she cried made her face sore and her head ache.

Then Inuyasha burst into the hut as rough and blazingly transparent as ever with his arms filled with heart nuts. He was carrying so many that he was struggling to hold onto them. The pile towered up to under his chin and it seemed impossible that he could have gathered all of them by himself. She imagined that the only way he could have done it was to kick the nuts up into the air with his feet, and catch them into the ever growing pile in his strong arms.

At first Kagome indignantly tried to ignore him and push by him to head home. Despite being mad at him she had been embarrassed for him to see her frazzled, face red from crying, inky hair untidy. But then he spoke which caused all of the nuts to tumble out of his arms onto the floor. He managed to hold onto one and grab her hand forcing her to take the smooth shelled nut.

“I brought these for you, Kagome. I hope you can forgive me for earlier.”

That was the first time Inuyasha ever asked her to forgive him. Sure he asked, well commanded really, her to forget about “it” before. “It” was varying and Kagome was having a hard time forgetting about some things.

“I think Inuyasha is waiting for something.” Miroku said licking his fingers which had half melted marshmallows all over them. He had melted his marshmallow too much forcing him to use his fingers to save the sweet morsel.

“What do you mean Miroku?” Kagome asked. Now that he said it Kagome felt he was right. Inuyasha was more alert since they left Kaede’s village earlier that day. He acted like he was looking for something, or expecting something.

“Well,” Miroku began, “He is a man who said sorry. I would think he is waiting for some validation that what he said was accepted.” Kagome paused for a moment listening to the crackling of the fire and grasshoppers in the night. Validation, she worried for a moment that her happy smile and cheerful thanks wasn’t enough to show Inuyasha that she truly appreciated his apology. Then Miroku spoke again, mischievously, “I would want a kiss or maybe some company for the night.”

Sango pushed Miroku and Kagome felt a little stupid for having listened to the monk. It was as if he didn’t have enough perversion for himself, he had to go and spread it around to others.

Yet part of it rang true. Miroku was a wise man for his age even if he did undercut it with his uncalled for sexual comments. Maybe Kagome did need to give Inuyasha something in return. She absently handed Shippo another marshmallow when he bounced up by her side for more.

She wondered if a kiss was appropriate. Flushing Kagome felt her heart beat a little louder. Just thinking about it made her feel like warm wax was dripping down into the space of her hips. Her breasts tingled as she imagined what it would be like to kiss Inuyasha, and that hot feeling intensified making her short of breath.

“Kagome are you alright?” Sango asked. Nervous and embarrassed Kagome hugged herself. She had no right to think of Miroku as a pervert with the way her imagination ran her about.

“I’m just tired. I think I’ll go to bed.” Kagome mumbled abandoning her spot at the campfire to retire to the silkiness of her sleeping bag. She slid in with the whishing sound of the shiny material filling her ears. She turned away from her friends and curled up into a ball closing her shadowy russet eyes as tight as she could. The ground was hard and cold, but she was heating up rather fast.

Biting her lower lip Kagome pressed one hand between her legs. She didn’t worry about her friends finding out that she was pushing her fingers into her underwear in response to the scorching heat inside of her. She had done this before. Chewing her lip harder Kagome thought of Inuyasha again. She imagined that it was his fingertips rubbing so slowly over her clit. She imagined it was his hand squeezing her breast, and not her own.

Kagome forced herself to hold her breath instead of moaning. She couldn’t move her fingers very fast without it being noticeable. That was alright though. This slow wet pace was perfect for the summer night. Kagome imagined what it might be like to lay with Inuyasha. Her imagination wasn’t very clear because she had never been with a man, but it didn’t stop her from knowing what she wanted.

Inuyasha, she said in her mind, I’ll be yours forever.

And like the great swell of a wave Kagome let her secret thoughts bring her to climax. She shivered hard retracting her hand from her underwear quickly because her flesh was so sensitive it almost hurt to touch it.

“Are you sure you’re alright Kagome?” Sango called out to her. Kagome opened her eyes to the dim light of the campfire reflecting off trees.

“Just cold,” Kagome lied as she lay drenched in sweat.

*Spiel Mit Mir*

He found her in the garden. She was sitting up in the gnarled branches of the old apple tree that stood in the center. Rin was staring at the moon and swinging her legs under her.

“Rin,” Sesshomaru spoke her name in the dark. She looked toward him and smiled. That expression was always radiant on her. He did not return the gesture, but he did walk towards her, “It is late.”

“I couldn’t sleep without you here.” She whispered. She was tired though, he could see it. She tried to cover her yawn and to keep her eyes open. She leaned forward as if to kiss his face, but instead she fell out of the tree and Sesshomaru was forced to catch her. He wondered if she slept at all while he was gone. It had been a little over a week so he assumed she must have. He didn’t think humans could live without sleeping, not like his kind.

Sesshomaru let her soft arms wrap around him. Her breath warmed him through his clothes. Looking up to the rear side of his home, his great castle that he inherited alongside tensaiga, Sesshomaru admitted that it couldn’t be said that his father left him with nothing. However, he would have rather been homeless and wandering with the might of tetsusaiga in his possession than bound by the responsibilities he had as a lord. Without pomp Sesshomaru propelled himself from the green grass of the garden, holding Rin close to him as he touched down briefly on the tawny clay shingling of the awning that shaded the balcony of the first floor. The recoil of the land was slight, and then he pushed off again landing with slightly more force on the balcony that lead to his rooms.

“Rin, open the door.” He commanded in a soft whisper unwilling to let her go. The night time always seemed dangerous to her, and that was especially true inside of his home.

There was always treachery abound in the lives of those with power. And it seemed that as ones power grew the amount of deceitful greedy hands in ones life increased exponentially.

That was why his father died.

Rin leaned forward in his arms and slid the shoji screen open with both small hands.

Sesshomaru stepped into the darkness of the room and turned allowing for Rin to shut the door. She was so unquestioningly trusting, and he was so very bold. Releasing her just enough so that the dirty soles of her feet touched the floor, Sesshomaru leaned over to see the shadows of her face in the night.

“Undress, Rin. You need to sleep tonight and your kimono is dirty from the garden.”

She obeyed instantly. He could see the dark curve of her shoulder, and the perk of her small breasts. He could see the flat expanse of her belly, and the slight curve to her hips. His eyes roamed to the dark patch of hair between her legs. She was deceptively petite, the only people that might know she was mature would have to see her nude. Sesshomaru made sure that he was the only one with that privilege.

“Sesshomaru,” She sounded a little breathless. She could not see in the darkness of the room. Her human eyes were too weak, but she was becoming aware in a way that no other human could. “Will you sleep with me tonight?”

“I will lay with you.” Sesshomaru conceded in a whisper before he licked her jaw. Her pulse grew steadily faster in his ears.

There was manifested between them a spark, a bond.

If someone had told Sesshomaru that he would collapse from cursed weakness like his father when he was faced with the decision to use tensaiga to pull Rin’s soul back from the land of the dead, he would have let her rot no matter how much his sword cried. He would have let her flesh feed the earth, even if his father’s sword refused him after.

Now he couldn’t stand the thought of her death, no matter how inevitable it was.

She whispered his name again, and he guided her towards his bed, which he never used unless he was sick of thinking or seeking pleasure. He laid her down in the softness and kissed her.

This bond between them, Bokusenoh explained it well. It was a bond of dual strength and weakness.

“We can’t expect to be invincible forever, Sesshomaru.” The old tree demon said the wise words of an adult. Maybe Sesshomaru wasn’t an adult yet, at least not then. He fought the bond, and hurt himself and Rin in the process.

Rin moaned into his mouth and clenched her fingers into the material of his kimono. Sesshomaru moved quickly laying in the bed and pulling Rin up onto his lap so that he could explore her body with his one hand. Certainly only having one arm had its disadvantages; like not being able to grab both of Rin’s breasts at the same time.

She squirmed on him and then dropped her hands to splay out perfectly on his chest. Her dull little human nails scratched into the silk of his shirt and the movements of her hips steadied. It was unstoppable. This fall, his gasp of pleasure as she pulled his clothed erection up and let his tip press against the warmth of her virgin skin; none of this was within his control. Rin caught him there rocking as if she was trying to sheath him inside of her. He wanted it so bad he thought he was going to die.

That must have been Rin’s feeling, he assessed the ridiculousness of it. He certainly wasn’t going to die if he didn’t plunge into her virgin cavern. That he most definitely knew. After all, they had been doing this kind of thing for a year. Sesshomaru still had yet to die.

“Sesshomaru, I… I need you.” She was gasping at her pace and boldly pulling her fingers into the ties of his hakama loosening them.

She said the same thing the first time he tried to destroy the bond. Although then her words were accompanied by tears and begging as he attempted to leave her in a human village near his home. It was the same village he originally abandoned Inuyasha at.

Inuyasha cried when he was abandoned too.

The thought was so upsetting that Sesshomaru growled, knocked Rin off of him and crossed his arms in indignant anger as he stared up to the ceiling of his room. He thought he solved that problem! Sesshomaru fumed as he closed his eyes this time remembering the way Inuyasha looked the last time he saw his brother.

Inuyasha blushed when he was aroused, that was now just one more thing Sesshomaru knew about his brother. It was just one more thing that could potentially clutter up his thoughts when he should be thinking, and enjoying other things! He closed his eyes remembering that in the last moments of their first heated kiss Inuyasha had thrust his hips up rubbing himself on Sesshomaru’s ass.

Of course the half-breed denied it and screamed at Sesshomaru that he was just trying to get away because Sesshomaru was being “a weirdo pervert monster”. Inuyasha’s creativity with insults went down a notch when he was flustered.

Inuyasha must have been so surprised when Sesshomaru lifted him up off the forest floor and began stacking heart nuts in his arms. He instructed Inuyasha to say sorry for his actions, and to offer a gift. Sesshomaru said that the gift had to be something of value to Inuyasha, and that was why he was piling heart nuts into his brother’s arms. In apologies the most valuable things were not always those bought with money.

It was not unexpected that his little brother had to be difficult about things. One would think that he didn’t appreciate that Sesshomaru decided to be as generous as to not take his life during their little encounter on the forest floor. Inuyasha cynically questioned his grounds for this kind of knowledge.

“What would you know about apologizing? I doubt you’ve ever even tried it.” He accused. Sesshomaru remembered pausing and in a moment of blunt honesty he showed humility.

“I have done a lot of things to apologize for.”

“Then why aint you apologizing to me?” Inuyasha asked as if he expected those kinds of words to flow freely from Sesshomaru.

“Because, little brother, you don’t mean anything to me.”

He was reevaluating that statement now, because this continual problem obviously indicated that Inuyasha meant something to him. Sesshomaru was willing to bet that something was a manure cart full of miscellaneous annoyances.

“Sesshomaru,” Rin’s voice inspired him to leave his thoughts behind and ground himself in the present. He didn’t admit it to Inuyasha, but a lot of the things he had to be sorry for related to his bond with Rin. “Do you want to talk?” She asked tentatively.

Sesshomaru snorted. She should know better. He wasn’t the type to talk.

“Go to bed.”

“You thought of Inuyasha again, didn’t you?” Her words should have sounded accusing, but they were not. He was glad that his anger with the situation did not affect her. He knew she could feel it. She was so attuned to his emotions that she sometimes seemed like a little flute crying out his every mood. Rin was very much like himself though, she was about the present. She lived for the moment and cherished the moment. Sesshomaru suspected it was because she knew death that she was able to appreciate the seconds of her life with depth. So even though she felt his anger, felt when he was sad, when he was amused, tired, aroused… she did not make those emotions her own unless it was her will to do so.

“Sleep.” Sesshomaru said again. He didn’t want to converse.

“I think I know why,” Rin whispered. The way she spoke so quietly it could barely be caught by his superb hearing made him think that she was afraid of her theory, whatever it might be.

Rin was always coming up with theories, and many of them were startlingly insightful.

He felt like talking now.

“Why?” Sesshomaru turned to her in the darkness. She was lying on her back with her fingers laced behind her head to make a pillow. She was looking to the ceiling even though it was doubtful she could see much of anything. He could see her forehead wrinkle up and her pretty little teeth gently bite her lower lip. She was thinking about her answer. That meant she was taking this very seriously. She thought about her words more when she wanted their weight to sink into Sesshomaru’s mind.

“Do you know what your servants say to me when you are gone?” She finally asked unstringing her fingers and reaching one hand blindly to touch him in the dark. She found his arm and let her fingers trail along it until she discovered his hand. She wove their fingers together and sighed, “They tease me. They say they can smell that I am left unsatisfied, and that you don’t have sex with me the way men should do with their wives. I didn’t know what they meant at first because I am always happy to be with you, but I was curious. I tried asking Jakin what that meant, but he practically fell over dead. You told me before that if I seek knowledge I can go into your study and look through your library. I didn’t find anything there. When your servants found out what knowledge I was seeking they teased me more. They said it was so sad that I was so stupid and it was no wonder that you didn’t do anything more with me. One of them threw a book at me, and that’s where I found out.” Rin got silent and Sesshomaru wondered if she would say more. He was more upset than angered by her words. He didn’t know what went on in his own home when he was gone. “I am not as stupid as they think I am. Even though I didn’t understand it before I have known for a long time how women come to be pregnant.”

“What does this have to do with your theory?” Sesshomaru asked impatiently. He didn’t see where she was going with this explanation.

“Sesshomaru, you should understand this by now.” Rin chided. He didn’t think her point was so obvious. “You told me many moons ago that your father was a great demon and that he let himself become weak by taking a human mate. Isn’t that what you are doing now?”

Cringing Sesshomaru disliked hearing his own words being tossed so haphazardly back to him.

“I have said that.” He admitted, and then in pride tried to rectify his words so that he didn’t have to take them with humility. “I am smarter than my father. I have learned from his mistakes.”

“Haven’t you said many times that you hate Inuyasha, that you want him dead because he is a stain on your house? Because he was born half human? I know you Sesshomaru, I can feel that you feel guilty. I couldn’t connect it until now, because the guilt seemed like a peach mixed in with a barrel of apples. Did you ever stop to think that our children will be half human too?”

That sat in the hollow of his stomach with worse weight than Rin’s previous words of enlightenment. Wouldn’t that be a slap in the face? He thought; if all these intruding, annoying thoughts of Inuyasha were feelings of repressed guilt? There was sound logic behind Rin’s words. And like with most things that were out of his control he wanted to fight it. He wanted to retort that it didn’t matter because when he had children with Rin they wouldn’t be so uncultured, but he knew it was his fault that Inuyasha was the way he was.

Unable to refute, retort, or brush those words aside Sesshomaru kept silent until Rin whispered that she loved him and fell asleep.
