One Over the Other

Chapter 3: Her Return



Kagome had been gone little over a year, living in America in New York with an old friend for her senior year of high school. Kagome pulled her thoughts from the last year and how much she'd changed as she pulled up in front of her old home. Deciding against going inside she headed to her favorite bar for a drink. Walking toward the bar she ordered three shots of vodka all of them doubles. She sat on her stool surveying the small crowd of people crowding the tables. Sango, an old friend, and Ayame were sitting talking to two males at a table in the back. Getting up she snuck up behind Sango wrapping her arms around her and kissing her neck. Sango turned angrily only for the anger to disappear from her face.



"Kagome your back."



Kagome smiled.



"Since this morning. How you been?"



Sango looked down into her lap sighing when Kagome ran her fingers through Sango's hair.



"I missed you Kags."



"I missed you too, San."





Kagome leaned down and kissed Sango gently, Sango draped her arms around Kagome's neck kissing her back. Neither of them caring that people were watching them now. Ayame sighed hating the feeling of being left out seeing as Sango was her girlfriend now. (Ayame, Sango, and Kagome are bisexual) Kaagome parted from Sango and went to the DJ and asked him to play Britney Spears 'Gimmie More'. He nodded and found and started the song. Getting up on the stage she started dancing and motioned for Sango and Ayame to join her. The three of them together danced to the song provocatively once again forgeting people were watching them. They shared sensual kisses as they danced and when the song stopped Kagome kissed them both before leaving to go see another old friend. Touga opened the door more then a little surprised to see Kagome standing there.



"Kagome come in."



Kagome entered hesitantly following him into the kitchen.



"How was your year in America?"



Kagome frowned she'd not told anyone she was leaving, but Sango and Ayame and she was sure they hadn't told anyone.



Touga blinked smiling lightly.



"Your mother told me."



Kagome's anger soared through the roof suddenly, as she remembered her mother and TOuga naked on the floor of his study. She turned to leave to find not only Inuyasha behind her but Sesshomaru as well. Pushing pass them Kagome left the house and got in her car and sighed before reaching for the door her eyes still closed for the moment. The door she found was being held open by Sesshomaru.



"Where is my pup?"



Kagome stilled instantly an old pain filling her heart.



"Dead."



Sesshomaru stared at her hard looking for some hint of a well concealed lie but found nothing.



"When?"



"Just before I was due to give birth I was in a car accident."



Sesshomaru's eyes widened an he stepped away in shock. Kagome sighed and leaned back in her seat, thinking. THey'd been so stupid before, her for letting her insecurities make her lose trust/faith in Sesshomaru. Him for letting his emotions control him enough to keep him from acting. One thing was for sure; they were two completely different people now, with over a years worth of memories to back their changes. Kagome closed her door and left going home. SHe helped her mother cook a small lunch that they shared silently.Kagome sighed things were tense between her and Rika and had been for almost five months now.



"I'm going to go rest."



"Okay."



Kagome stood and went to herroom, falling across the bed with a tired grunt. For the millionth time since getting off the plane she was regretting her decision to come home.



'Damn, I should have stayed in New York.'



Going to sleep Kagome slept through the night and well into the next day. By the time she got up, showered, dressed, and ate it was almost eight o'clock.



'Ring...ring...'



Pulling her cell phone from her pocket she almost squealed with excitement.



"hey."



"Guess what babe?"



Kagome smiled.



"What?"



"I got the account from today till six months from now I'll be a recident of Tokyo."



Kagome's eyes grew bright.



"Congrats."



"Where are you?"



"My house...the Sunset Shrine."



"I'll be there in half hour."



"Okay."



Hanging up Kagome smiled and looked for something to occupy her time till Jesse arrived. Hearing a knock on the door Kagome answered the door only to see Sesshomaru and Jesse standing there. Both looked her up and down.



"How can I help you Sesshomaru?"



"i had hoped we could talk."



"Sorry already got plans."



Sesshomaru looked Jesse over with a raised eyebrow, his tone haunty.



"i see,"



Kagome wanted to purify his eyebrow off but let it go as she stepped out the house grabbing Jesse's hand after closing the door. Then without so much as a goodbye to Sesshomaru she pulled Jesse toward his car smiling.



"Who was he?"



"My ex-boyfriend."



Seeing the look on her face Jesse let it all go and pulled from the curb quickly. Kagome relaxed her body as they drove away from the shrine, she felt bad about ignoring Sesshomaru like she had. Jesse glanced between her and the roadseveral times before pulling over. Turning to face her he simply watched her for a long moment.



"I think we should just be friends Kagome."



Kagome let a sad smile rest on her lips as she turned to look at him.



"I understand...maybe I should just go home for now."



Jesse sighed and nodded turning around to go back to the shrine. Sesshomaru's car was still there when they pulled up. Kagome frowned and but said nothing only kissed Jesse on the cheek goodbye. Hurrying into the house Kagome didn't feel Sesshomaru's aura in the house but Touga's. Turning around Kagome grabbed her keys and headed for the Manor. Raising her fist to knock she hesitated before turning around and going back to her car.



"Kagome."



"She froze and turned slowly as the wind blew around them.



"You said you wanted to talk."



Sesshomaru nodded and opened the door wider. Kagome ducked inside and silently followed Sesshomaru to a room upstairs she guessed to be his new room. He motioned for her to sit anywhere.



"What happened?"



A sad look settled over Kagome's features.



"About a three weeks before I was due to give birth I went back to the bar with Sango. We sang and laughed and by the time neither of us needed to be driving (No Kagome was not drinking) Sango drove though and as we were turning onto my street this SUV came out of nowhere and hit us on my side. The rest is obvious."



Sesshomaru's mind was a buzz with questions but so was Kagome's.



"Why didn't you tell me?"



Kagome snorted.



"The last time we'd seen each other we argued like crazy, our parents fucked each other, and we basically agreed to hate each other."



"I didn't hate you, I was pissed off with you."



"Seemed like hate to me...you became so cold. Even after I'd thought things through I avoided you. I didn't want to see the same look of fridged resentment in your eyes. So I left things alone and ran from my troubles to America."



Kagome looked over at him and stood to leave.



"It was a mistake coming here. I guess old habits die hard..."



She had almost reached his door when she felt strong arms holding her back.



"I wish to know the woman you have become Kagome."



"What if I don't wish to share?"



"I'll think of a way to convince you."



Sesshomaru leaned down and nuzzled her neck. Kagome leaneed her head to the side her eyes closed for a moment. THen she pulled away suddenly and turned to face him.



"I need to go."



Sesshomaru simply looked at her, his eyes emotionless.



"If you wish."



Kagome leaned back against the walland stared at him. Sesshomaru selected a book from his bookshelf an d sat on his bed. Turning to the door Kagome left it open as she turned and head for the front door.



"Part of the problem rearises."



Sesshomaru made no move to indicate he'd heard her but his eyes narrowed a bit. Kagome sped from the Manor her nervous energy making her leg bounce anxiously.



'What the hell was that.'



Kagome returned home blocking Touga in the driveway. Keeping her keys with her so that they would be forced to ask her to move her car. Laying across her bed Kagome closed her eyes and stared at the back of her closed eyelids. She tried to ignore the moans and screamsss of her mother and the grunts and snarls of Touga. She lost track of time as she lay there, chilled she slipped under her covers. A shiver traveled down her spine when a loud crack of thunder shook her window and the fast, pitter patter of rain took up a steady beat outside. Finally, the noise within the house silenced and only the storm remained. A crack of thunder shook the house, as a flash of lighteneing illuminated Kagome's room a bright white, just as she opened her eyes. Kagome's terrified scream filled the ringing silence the thunder had left behind.



Rika and Touga burst into her room to find a shaking and sobbing Kagome. To them Kagome was sitting in her the corner of her bed shaking and sobbing. To Kagome the flash of lightening had become the headlights of the truck and the crack of thunder was the collision. In her mind tshe was sitting in the hospital covered in blood, looking at the doctors with dead eyes as they explained that she had lost the baby. Rika shook her gently whispering her name softly. Kagome looked up at her with dull gray eyes, the blue in them seeming to have vanished.



~Three Weeks Later~



Kagome still lay in her bed unresponsive, to anyone that came to see her, mute and stiff as stone. She seemed more like a porcelin doll then anything. Touga told Sesshomaru of Kagome's sudden illness and how unresponsive she was. But Sesshomaru neither said nor did anything but shrug and turn away. Rika always brought up breakfast, lunch, and dinnerfor Kagome to eat but never saw her eat only returned to find the trays empty. Rika like always had just left Kagome's breakfast tray and was returning to the kitchen when Sesshomaru slipped into Kagome's room through her window. He like always mashed the food up like baby food before he started to feed her, massaging her throat so the food would pass. It took a great deal of time but he did it, then took his leave always leaving the window cracked.



Touga like usual visited Kagome after he got off work. In fact he was spending more and more time there then he was at home. Touga looked over at Rika as he lay in her bed. He loved her, he knew that much. Even with Izayoi being his mate for well over 700 years. She had been very sick lately do to his betrayal, but she didn't kow why she was sick. Inuyasha no longer talked or even looked at him and Sesshomaru was an icy wall with no way around, over, or under it. Rika had told him of her problems with Kagome as well and he saw it everytime she looked at either of them, the same hatred and resentment.



It was the day before the one month anniversary of Kagome's unresponsive illnesswhen she 'woke up'. SHe just laid there looking as though nothing had changed. Sesshomaru came through her window just as she sat up. Noticing the sudden breeze Kagome turned her eyes toward the window her eyes narrowing when she saw Sesshomaru.



"What do you want?"



"I came to do as I usually do and feed you."



"Then why sneak through my window?"



Turning Sesshomaru dropped out of sight from her window. Just then Touga walked in and Kagome's reflexes sent a ball of miko energy slamming into his chest. Seeing who it was Kagome only slammed her door shut not bothering to do more then glare at him. Rika came running and angrily knocked on Kagome's door before throwing it open.



"Apologize."



Kagome sneered.



"No."



Rika glared at her angrily.



"I love this youkai Kagome and I will not stand you disrespecting him. Now APOLOGIZE."



Kagome's eyes darkened to the color of a thunderstorm.



"I will not apologize to either of you."



"Why not?"



"Because both of you are wrong not me."



Touga placed his hands on Rika's shoulders.



"To love someone is not wrong, Kagome."



"You are a mated male causing your mate pain and sickness because you can't keep your dick in your pants. My father didn't leave like my 'mother' would have you and the rest of the world believe. No, she sent him away without stopping to think about how I would feel so I for once refuse to consider how the hell she feels. So screw both of you."



Rika turned in Touga's arms and began to cry into his chest. That only made Kagome that much angrier.



"DOn't cry now...you weren't crying when you sent dad away, you didn't cry when you fucked Touga in his study while I was still dating Sesshomaru, and you didn't cry when I tried to commit suicide after losing my baby. So don't cry now that I'm telling you and your cheating ass boyfriend that before I let you cause me anymore more pain I'll purify both of you to the lowest level of hell."



Kagome quickly pulled on a shirt and some jeans then pushed pass them and left the Shrine. She pulled out her phone and called her father, Koichi.



"Hello otome."



"Hey otou, can I come over for a while?"



"Of course."



Kagome hung up and sped toward her father'sd house. He lived down the block from Taisho Manor in one of the other Manor's. Parking in front of the house Kagome knocked on the door. It opened almost immediately to reveal a small brown haireed boy smiling up at her toothily.



"Hey Souta."



"Onee-san I missed you!"



Kagome bent and scooped him up into her arms while moving inside and closing the door.



"Kagome is that you?"



"Yeah dad. Are you in the kitchen?"



"Yeah."



Walking back into the kitchen Kagome spotted her father and her stepmother with her baby sister Kohana.



"Hey okaa-san."



Jenny her father's new wife and mother to her two younger siblings, turned and pulled her into a tight one armed hug.



"Hello dear."



Kagome was Koichi's twin in looks, she had his black hair and his unique eyes even the shape of his facethough it was the feminine version.



"Dad can I live here till I can get my own place?"



Koichi frowned.



"Why don't you want to stay with your mother anymore?"



Kagome finally let her sadness show.



"She's dating Lord Touga, Sesshomaru's father even though he's mated to Lady Izayoi. They cause her great pain and illness but don't care...How could she date my ex-boyfriends father when we were still together? I need to be away from her."



Koichi nodded sadly.



"You can move in today. I can ready a room for you, while you and your father go get your things."



"Why don't you stay here and pick out a room with Jenny while I go talk to your mother?"



Kagome nodded and as Koichi was leaving gave him a hug in thanks, before following Jenny upstairs.



"So Kagome do you want to talk about all this?"



Kagome thought a moment.



"My problems all emerged when I found out I was pregnant by Sesshomaru my junior year.It was our first and only time having sex and I got pregnant. He seemed so cold and unreachable after and then I realized my powers were being suppressed. We argued and avoided talking after I left the day I found my mother and Touga naked in his study. Things between me and Sesshomaru were suddenly over, I was pregnant, but I was disgusted and upset with my mother. Before I left I fund 'comfort' in my best friend Sango. She became everything Sesshomaru seemed to no longer want to be. When we got in that accident I couldn't handle being in Japan anymore. It was after I left that I found you and dad and the rest you know up until today. Today, I found Sesshomaru in my room and I snapped at Touga and my mother, before coming here."



Jenny nodded every now and then and rubbed her baby gently.



"You need to talk to Seeshomaru Kagome. I know it may hurt or be uncomfortable around him, but you'll feel better in the end."



Kagome sighed gently thinking a moment. Jenny nodded and opened the doors to a large room flooded with sunlight. Kagome smiled coming out of her thoughts.



"I think this room is perfect don't you Kagome dear?"



Kagome nodded wandering around the room. Looking out her large window she saw she was direccctly in front of the house over looking the front yard. Jenny settled on the window seat and looked at the room.



"We should call your father and tell him we found you the perfect room."



"No, I'll talk him when I get to the shrine."



"Okay dear."



Souta ran into the room then breathing hard.



"Demon...downstairs...with...Kohana..."



Kagome ran from the room going to the kitchen. Kohana was asleep in her bassinet when Kagome reached her. Kagome scooped her up quickly making a soothing shushing sound to lull her back to sleep when she started to wake up. Turning Kagome spotted a red shirt before it vanished. But she knew the aura of the demon already and with Kohana still in her arms followed it. Walking to Taisho Manor fromher father's house only took about ten minutes she made it in eight. Knocking on the door the door opened to reveal Sesshomaru.



"Where's Inuyasha?"



"Who is the pup?"



Kagome seeing she wasn't going to get an answer turned to go back home, but found Sesshomaru blocking her way.



"Who is the pup?"



"None of your business."



She again moved to go around and found Sesshomaru blocking her way.



"I will not ask again."



"And I will not repeat myself."



Sesshomaru grabbed her shoulders roughly.



"You dumped me right, Sesshomaru?"



He released her weary of their new topic.



"In a manner of speaking."



"Then you no longer have the right to touch me or question me. Tell Inuyasha stay outof my father's house or I'll kill him."
