Chapter 3
In the hut
When Myouga left their shelter InuYasha got back to Kagome. What did Myouga told him again? Oh yeah he had to get her out of those wet clothes. Oh boy she wouldn’t like that if she woke up. He could almost feel the sit’s she would throw at him. But right now he didn’t care about that. It was this or die, and if she woke up and had complaints he would make that clear to her.
He gently got Kagome out of the blanket and started to pull her out of her clothes. He tried to be careful not to tear them apart. Which proved to be hard with his claws. Her clothes were all soaked through. As he undid her of her blouse and skirt he decided to leave her underwear. That wasn’t as wet as the rest and, this way, she couldn’t get that mad at him for wanting to see her naked.
*Now I have to make some fire,... first ... some wood*
He looked in the trunk to see if there was any wood. There wasn’t, there was only something to eat.
*Feh, that means I have to get outside and I have to leave Kagome alone....Well I guess I have no choice* He thought.
InuYasha walked out of their shelter, carefully closing the door, and looked at it. It was a good one, no-one could see it and the clouds where so low that no-one would notice a small string of vapor coming from the house.
After a little walk he landed at the edge of a frozen like forest. Here he could get some wood, he just had to find dry pieces. After a little time he had found enough dry wood. There had been a little hut like building where some was stacked. The only thing he had to do now was get it back to their shelter. He would have to go up and down a couple of times because he didn’t know how long they were going to stay.
He finally got back to Kagome with the last pieces of wood. Immediately he started to make a fire. InuYasha walked over to Kagome and picked her up to lay her closer to the fire. His cloak was beginning to feel wet at the inside too, that meant he had to pull it out and freeze unless he would go under the blanket with Kagome. She wouldn’t like that, but he promised Myouga to take care of himself as well. He took off his fire rat robe and got over to Kagome to get under the blanket. Luckily the blanket was big enough for the both of them. He thought when he dozed off.
He woke up when he felt a shiver. It didn’t come from him but from Kagome. He sighed of relieve. If she was shiffering that meant she wouldn’t die right?
He got a little closer to her to give her some of his warmth. But the shivering continued.
*Why is she still shivering, what do I have to do to stop it* He wondered.
He sat up and decided to take her on his lap. He grabbed her around her waist gently and pulled her up to him making sure the blanket stayed around both of them.
Her head rested on his chest now, he could feel her breathing and her heartbeat. He looked at her she still felt cold but he thought she felt warmer then before. He softly brushed her hair out of her face. *If she would only wake up.* He thought worried, realizing that it didn’t mean much good if she stayed unconscious
“I-InuYasha?” A soft voice dragged him back to reality.
“Kagome are you awake?” he softly asked her. “How do you feel?”
“I’m s-s-so c-cold.” She replied.
InuYasha wrapped his arms around her and got her closer to give her more warmth.
“Gomen.” InuYasha whispered.
“Hmm? W-why?” Kagome was caught by surprise by this. *What’s wrong with him? Is he feeling all right?*
“Because I’m the cause of this. I dragged everyone into the mountains just because I didn’t want to remind everyone that it’s the new moon. I didn’t think the weather up here would be this rough and I thought that I could handle it.” He sorrowly replied.
“But....”
“I knew it was to cold, especially for you and that would have been a good reason to stay in that town for a while. We could have waited to get you some warmer clothes. And I could have just become human and stay hidden.” His face looked sad when he told her this.
“I-i-it wasn’t your f-fault. N-normally I always d-d-do whatever it t-takes t-t-to get my way and this time I went w-without any complain, I forgot y-y-you would t-t-turn human too. I-i-i-i’m the o-one who should b-be s-s-sorry.” The shivering still hadn’t stopped and it made her stutter.
“Baka. It wasn’t your fault at all, why do you always want to take the blame? I did it and we both know it.” InuYasha started to shout at her. But when he looked at her face he stopped. She was looking scared up to him her eyes filling with tears..
*Oh no, I got her to cry. What kind of jerk am I? Am I really that senseless?*
This wasn’t what he had wanted. He didn’t mean to make her cry. To calm her a bit he wrapped his arms a little tighter around her.
“Ssh, don’t cry. I’m sorry I didn’t mean it. I don’t want you to be sad...” InuYasha tried to comfort her.
“A-are you l-leaving me?” Kagome asked in a soft voice.
*Leaving what was that girl talking about?* InuYasha looked puzzled “What do you mean?”
“W-w-well you’re s-so mad at me, I’m sorry I-i made you mad r-really.”
“Don’t be sorry, it’s alright, don’t worry I won’t leave you here alone, you’re sick, you have to get better first.”
“S-so you a-a-are going?” It sounded very weak.
*Why did I say that? I would never leave her alone.* He thought by himself “No I’m not leaving you, don’t worry. Just wait a second.”
InuYasha stood up and gently put the blanket around Kagome. Then he walked to the fire and put some wood on it. Now it could burn for a while.
“You should get some sleep Kagome.” He said in concern.
“B-but what a-about you? Y-you’re human n-now you’ll get c-c-cold.” She said looking at his black hair.
“That doesn’t matter, you need the blanket.”
“B-but we s-shared it b-before.” Kagome looked now as she didn’t understand anything any longer. “And I a-am s-s-so cold.”
InuYasha sighed and got up from his place next to the fire and walked over to Kagome. He put the blanket a little back and sat down again. Kagome leaned against him. He felt her still cold skin against his shoulder. Deciding she wouldn’t get warm this way he got her on his lap again, laying her in his arms.
“Now you should try to get some sleep, don’t worry I’m not going anywhere ... I’m staying right here and take care of yo.....”
That was the last thing Kagome heard before she fell asleep.
