Losing Family
Chapter 3: Losing Family
“Sesshomaru, why does everyone have to come over here?”
“I’ll explain when everyone gets here, but right now we need to get to your mother and brother.”
They quickly left the house and raced through traffic toward the hospital. Just as they walked in they were stopped by two demons Kagome recognized from Naraku’s gang. She tried to dodge around them, but was quickly grabbed by Sesshomaru who pulled her behind him.
“Move or be moved by force.”
“Do what you will, but you won’t get past us dog.”
Sesshomaru snarled deep in his throat and stepped forward which was all Kagome need to dodge out from behind him and passed the two demons. Running up the steps toward the room Souta was in she stopped upon hearing a crash below her. Hesitating for only a few seconds before she returned to her race toward her brother. Pushing open the door to Souta’s room Kagome stood frozen at the site before her. Naraku stood with his hands roaming all over her mother’s shaking body. Tears were in her mother’s eyes as she fought not to cry as Naraku pressed his claws into her skin drawing blood. Kagome was trying not to do anything to risk her mothers life as she slowly moved forward.
“Release my mother Naraku.”
“Now, now Kagome I’m just having a little fun.”
“Let her go or I swear you’ll regret it.”
Kagome pushed her energy out around her. Her anger so great it was almost tangible. Her energy cracked the air around her. Sesshomaru stepped up to touch her shoulder, but was burned by her energy. Kagome’s eyes started to shift from red to violet with her anger.
“LET GO OF HER YOU BASTARD OR I’LL PURIFY YOUR ASS TO HELL!”
“Mind your temper Kagome you wouldn’t want my claws to slip now would you?”
“Koi, calm down. Don’t let your anger consume you.”
Kagome stretched her hands out and formed a bow and arrow just like before. Bringing her hands down she aimed at Naraku and let her arrow fly. Naraku pulled Ms. Higurashi in front of him as a shield, but Kagome was ready for that and quickly pulled her energy back and formed it into a ball and through it forward with all her might. Controlling the ball with her eyes she sent the ball around the room in a dizzying array of colors reflected off the wall and windows. Before sending it straight at he mother who was still being used as a shield by Naraku. The ball of energy went through her mother a into Naraku put it didn’t purify him like he thought it would instead t absorbed all his energy and left him powerless. Kagome turned to Sesshomaru who watched her with amazement shimmering in his golden depths.
“Take my mother out to the truck and protect her I will follow shortly with Souta and Naraku.”
Nodding Sesshomaru walked over and picked up the now unconscious woman and walked out the room and out toward the truck. Kagome walked slowly toward Naraku, the air around her shimmering with her energy. Kagome backhanded him hard across his face sending him flying to the floor. Searching the room for Souta Kagome saw no indication that he had ever been in the room and turned to Naraku.
“Where is my brother you sick son of a bitch?”
“A place where you can’t reach him, a place where no one can survive long and if my calculations are correct he’ll only live another hour and a half without fresh air. The miasma is slowly poisoning him. You’ll never see your brother again and you have no one to blame for it, but yourself.”
“SHUT UP. LET HIM GO, HE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS.”
“BEG ME, Kagome and maybe I’ll consider it.”

“DON’T DO IT KAGOME LET ME GO.”
Souta screamed as loud as he could. Kanna had tricked him, lied to him, handed him over to Naraku without a care in the world. But, he had loved her and trusted her with his life, just like he would trust his gang. The only person he trusted more than her and his gang was Kagome, for she was his savior. She had always protected him from harm, she saved him from their father, bullies at school when they were younger, and even from other gangs who had sought to kill him because of his dealings with Kanna. Even, though they had their disagreements constantly, they supported each other and never judged each other life styles and friends or company. They where family and Souta would be damned if something happened to his savior, his sister because of him. Souta closed eyes hoping he could get out of Kanna’s mirror, he never felt the build of destructive and holy power within him.
Kanna stood hidden in the bathroom of the hospital room, listening to Kagome and Naraku. A small smile stretched across her lips when Naraku told Kagome to beg him to let Souta go. She was so distracted by her thoughts that she never felt Souta’s power build within her mirror. By the time she noticed it was to late with a burst of energy that everyone within the room felt Souta shattered Kanna’s mirror and escaped from the realm of darkness and despair that he had been held prisoner in. His eye glowed red, the only thought going through his mind was ‘Bitch Betrayed Me’ and without second thought Souta separated Kanna’s head from her body with his newly acquired claws. Then, raced to his sisters side.

Kagome was on her hands and knees tears streaming from her cerulean orbs for the first time in three years. Kagome had gone back on her promise to herself to never let another man see her weak. Slowly Kagome’s anger was giving way to grief, her brother, her best friend was fading away from her. Her innocence had been stolen from her, her mother disowned her, her life taken from her, and now he was fading away from her. She was alone and in pain. Curled in a tight ball on the floor as Naraku taunted and beat her, made her sink lower and lower into her despair, her pain and that’s how Souta found her, broken. Souta turned red eyes to the man responsible for his torture and his sisters pain. Raising his clawed hand he charged Naraku and slashed him several times before they both were encased in a cloud of miasma. When, the miasma cleared Naraku was gone and Kagome was unconscious. He could smell the scent of the leader of the gang the Assassins Sesshomaru on Kagome as he picked her up off the floor. Exiting the building Souta took out Kagome’s phone and called his second in command, Asamaru.
“Where are you and the rest of the gang?”
“We’re at Sesshomaru-sama’s house. Are you alright?”
“Yes, but my sister is not. We’ll be there soon, stay put.”
Souta walked out the hospital to see Sesshomaru waiting by a black hummer H2. When his eyes landed on Kagome’s battered and abused frame, Souta saw just how much he really cared for his sister and hoped one day he would find someone to look at him that way. Souta drew steady with Sesshomaru and handed his sister to the demon without hesitation. Sesshomaru took her into his arms and handed Souta the keys to the truck which made a smile cross his face and Sesshomaru wavered ever so slightly in decision to let the boy drive. Walking around the truck Souta quickly climbed behind the wheel and started the car. When he saw that Sesshomaru was ready he left the hospital parking lot with a squeal of breaks.
Pulling into Sesshomaru’s garage about twenty minutes later they exited the truck and entered the large mansion through the garage entrance. They walked through a series of hallways down to the meeting room where everyone was gathered. When they walked in they were shocked to see Inuyasha and Kichiro both attacking Sango with swords. Kohaku, Sango’s brother sent his sickle flying toward the group and smiled when it landed between the three separating Inuyasha and Kichiro from Sango.
“You didn’t really think I’d let my sister fight you two on one did you? Sango throw me a sword would you.”
Inuyasha charged at Kohaku who dodged him neatly and proceeded to catch the sword Sango had thrown to him by the hilt. Inuyasha was about to bring his sword down on Kohaku who easily deflected the blow. Everyone watching knew this wasn’t a practice battle, but a real one and knew better than to interfere. But, just as Kichiro was about to thrust his sword through Sango’s back Kagome woke up. Her eyes grew hard with anger and she moved before anyone noticed she was even there. Kagome deflected the sword using her bare hand and sent a powerful spin kick to Kichiro’s chest sending him flying through the wall. Inuyasha and the others stop their battle and stared at Kagome who was enraged to find the gang members being attacked.
“Sango, Kohaku, fall in line with the rest of the gang and don’t make me repeat myself.”
They quickly dropped their weapons and fell in line. Kichiro and Inuyasha turned to her anger evident on their features. They both charged her at the same time and Sesshomaru was about to step in, but the look on her face stopped him. Kagome stared at them as if bored when they charged her and with a sweep of her hand she sent them flying into the already crumbing wall behind them. Inuyasha recovered first and once again charged forward this time scoping one of the swords off the floor as he came at her. Kagome stood stone still and watched as he slashed down at her. But, she deflected his blows using only her bare hands until she saw Kichiro was ready to join the battle and just as she blocked Inuyasha he attacked her as well. The crowd watched in awe of Kagome as she fought with each of them without picking up a single weapon. Kichiro quickly grew tired of her and turned and charged at his original target.
Kagome to busy deflecting Inuyasha’s slashes didn’t notice Kichiro wasn’t fighting until Sango and Kohaku’s cries rang through the room. They echoed in Kagome’s ears until she couldn’t take it anymore. Kagome quickly disposed of Inuyasha by sending a series of kicks to his chest . By the time Inuyasha’s unconscious body hit the ground Kagome was already sitting with both Sango’s and Kohaku’s head on her lap. Tears were streaming from her pain filled eyes when a yell of loss, sorrow, anger, pain, and hurt ripped from her and Souta’s throats. Everyone near them backed up and as her and Souta’s auras flared to life around them. Kichiro backed away from them in fear and jumped when someone put a firm hand upon his shoulder. He turned to she Sesshomaru behind him and dropped to his knees pleading.
“PLEASE SESSHOMARU-SAMA DON’T LET THEM KILL ME, PLEASE MAKE THEM HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL!?”
“YOU KILLED THEIR FAMILY AND THEN EXPECT ME TO PROTECT YOU? KAGOME, SOUTA DO AS YOU WISH HE IS NO LONGER UNDER MY PROTECTION.”
Souta was first to strike he grabbed him from the floor and threw him through the wall, then Kagome disappeared after him and walked slowly back into the room holding the struggling man by the neck as she slowly crushed his vocal cords under her thumb. He clawed at her wrist and ripped layer upon layer of skin, muscle, and joints from her arm in his attempt to get free. Kagome’s arm was all, but destroyed in his need to get air to his oxygen starved lungs, but her grip never loosened only tightened further. His eyes were rolling up into his head when Kagome tossed his body like a rag doll to Souta who in turn punched him in his chest sending him flying back to Kagome, but everyone heard his ribs shatter from the impact of Souta’s punch. Kagome realized her play thing was unconscious and promptly woke him. Kagome turned to look at Souta and they nodded in agreement, they began to chant in unison.
“Burn his body, torture his soul, make him feel the pain, the sorrow, the anguish, and the pain of loss.”
They chanted over and over until his broken and abused body started to glow a deep blood red his screams echoed around the room. The entire crowd backed away from them with fear residing in their eyes. Sesshomaru was about to move forward when Tokijin was snatched from his side. He went to grab for it, but found he couldn’t move a single muscle in his body. Kagome held out her hand and caught Tokijin by the hilt. Raising her hand above her head she brought the sword crashing down and they watched transfixed by the dazzling light that was expelled by the possessed blade. They could feel the evil from it as if they were breathing it into their bodies. They shivered at the ruthless bloodlust emulating from it. Kagome then handed Souta the sword and watched as he brought it down straight into the demons heart and twisted it as he pulled it out of his chest so that he exploded with the power released.
But, Kagome wasn’t finished yet and neither was Souta as both sets of eyes turned to Inuyasha. Sesshomaru turned to follow their eyes and saw that Inuyasha was to be their next target of revenge. Even though he wasn’t a big fan of his little brother he was the only one who would have the pleasure of killing him and it would be on his own terms and no one else’s. Sesshomaru turned to the crowd of scared humans, demons, and hanyou, his eyes hard.
“Leave this room, NOW.”
“Kagome, come here, we need to speak.
“You can’t order me around, Sesshomaru.”
“I’m not ordering you I’m asking you.”
Kagome walked over to Sesshomaru who wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her tightly to him. Souta watched in silence at the display of affection from the icy demon gang leader. Sesshomaru brought his mouth to her ear so that she’d hear him clear as he spoke.
“Why haven’t you taken the time to realize that you have the one person who you’ve killed to protect your entire life is by your side. Realize that he’s safe and no longer hurt. You now knew what you are, but you’ve neglected the fact that your pregnant with my pup and have placed yourself and our pup in danger repeat ably. Why, when I have the power to save those who where taken from you?”
“Save them, please Sesshomaru. PLEASE SAVE THEM.”
Sesshomaru released her and pulled Tensaiga from it sheath and sent a wave of healing energy at the two dead bodies. Kagome was next on his list for he could feel the loss of power due to her blood loss. Kagome’s arm was repaired as she rushed over to her friends who were starting to wake. Souta sat with Kohaku propped up in his arms, they had been best friends since the first grade and cared for each others like brothers. Sango was wrapped in Kagome’s arms, they had known each other for so that when Kagome kissed Sango’s forehead in happiness it wasn’t taken the wrong way. Both friends opened their eyes and hugged the person holding them.
“Sango, I have something to tell you.”
“What is it Kagome.”
“I’m going to have a baby and as such you and Rin will be with me constantly.”
“Who’s the father, Kags.”
Kagome only smiled a heart stopping smile at her and raised her eyes to Sesshomaru. It was the first time in years that Sango had seen her smile like that. But, following her gaze Sango’s breath caught in her throat to see that Sesshomaru was the father of Kagome’s child.
“Kagome, how did you move that fast and block those swords with only your bare hands?”
“Sango, Kohaku, me and Souta are demons Dark Elemental Inu Miko Youkai to be exact.”
“What about your mother does she know, is she one as well?”
Kagome and Souta’s heart stopped at that statement in their rage they had forgotten about their mother. They pulled Sango and Kohaku to their feet and rushed from the room in search of their mother. They found her about five minutes later in the room that Sesshomaru and Kagome usually used when they were together. She was in her true form sitting on the bed as if waiting on them to show up. A small smile was on her face.
“I see you and Souta have learned the truth about your heritage. The man who raised you was not your real father he was a man I met shortly after giving birth to you Kagome. He was nothing, but a good friend to me through the years. I saw your father again and we were together for about a week before we were once again separated. He was killed in a battle with another youkai. His last words to me was to keep the both of you away Gensyi, but I didn’t listen because I never thought he would hurt either of you. I was blind to who he really was. Your father used the last of his power to split his powers equally between you and Souta. He was a Dark Elemental youkai and I am a Inu Miko youkai. I’m so sorry for all the pain that you endured by yourself that I should have protected you from and I hope that one day you’ll be able to forgive me.”
Kaori Higurashi then stood and walked to the door pausing before leaving the room.
“If you want to talk or even visit you know were to find me.”
With that said she left the room and headed toward her home.
“Sesshomaru, why does everyone have to come over here?”
“I’ll explain when everyone gets here, but right now we need to get to your mother and brother.”
