Trying to Banish Every Memory
The Aftermath
Without Inuyasha, the world didn’t stop, the flowers didn’t evolve into weeds, and Kagome didn’t die. Her world was shaded by smiles and her heart was pierced by love. Kagome blamed the flu for being bed-ridden as the hopeful faces of her family and friends inquired to her in reckless abandon. Finally, the two-week flu turned into a two-month flu and the two-month flu passed leaving Kagome dazed and confused. Two months since Inuyasha had up and left Kagome. Two months since Inuyasha had ripped out Kagome’s proverbial heart and watched it pulse and fidget in his hand.
Months turned into years for Kagome, and she had almost forgotten about her doggy-eared hanyou and her friends. Kagome became a kindergarten teacher. Children were drawn to Kagome and Kagome to them. Kagome enjoyed every moment she spent with the children, but being almost 21 she felt like there was something missing in her life.
‘Everything happens for a reason, right?’ thought Kagome on a crisp spring night as she overlooked the twinkling lights of the city below her apartment balcony. A sharp knock at the door grabbed Kagome’s attention. The door opened silently and a man with dark hair and an awkward stride invited himself inside. Kagome’s eyes rolled.
“Houjou, what have I told you? You really need to give me that key you made. You can’t just waltz in whenever you want,” Kagome scolded half-heartedly.
“I know. I won’t. I just think we should take that extra step and move in together,” Houjou mumbled.
Kagome ignored his final statement. She wanted to avoid the frustration altogether. The worst mistake she had ever made was dating Houjou. He was a good distraction until his started talking about commitments of any kind. The idea of a commitment to one person made Kagome emotionally dead inside. She wanted that effect because she feared the other option. Kagome left with Houjou as they went on another bland and frustrating date.
Red eyes watched from the black slated roof as Hobo left with his woman. Anger filtered into every portion of his brain. A head shook and golden eyes replaced the crimson. A red and silver flash took off from the roof and followed the couple.
