Chap 3. – Training – Part I -
“Good morning Inuyasha, it is time to start our day.”
Some one was trying to make him get up, he was sleeping, and for the first time in days, he would like to continue sleeping like that. The place he was on was comfortable and warm the scent was good and he was not hungry.
“Come on little one, wake up.”
“Hmmm… “
Inuyasha’s arm was grabbed and he was dragged off the futon he was one. He opened his eyes to be face to face with the youkai called Kiramaru.
“What do you want?” Inuyasha was pissed and was demonstrating it.
“This is not the way I thought you would greet me in this morning my yasha.”
“Greet you? Are you baka or something? I am not your roomy, I don’t like you. I… ahhhhhhh… no… no… stop it…”
Inuyasha remember why he was under this youkai hands, he had a poison grip that made him suffer a lot in pain and without air. He would like to cut off this hand, but could not avoid being touched by him and suffer with the pain it could cause.
“Today you will get some more presents and will meet some more people in here. Get ready, we are going downstairs.”
Kiramaru pointed him a bowl where he could wash his face and as soon as the youkai released Inuyasha’s arm, the little hanyou covered his naked body with the blanket and as soon as he was able, he got dressed and wash his face and tried to trim his hair with his fingers.
“Now…now… this is yasha I dreamt last night.”
Kiramaru was smiling it was the first time Inuyasha saw him smiling, at least a real smile, not a smirk.
“Do not forget the zori, let’s get downstairs.”
“I don’t like to wear those, being barefoot is much better.”
“Put them on, now. It is not a request it is an order.”
Inuyasha stare at the youkai with all the hate in the world and then put the zori on and waited.
Kiramamu grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the room, they were going down. Walking in a corridor they went to another eating area, at least Inuyasha thought it was an eating area, because of the table with food and some female youkai sitting around it and eating.
“Morning ladies, this is my new acquisition, Inuyasha, he will be training in the art by all of you and in the proper time, he will be serving in the house or will be sold. As the kid he is he will have to start doing the other chores and help and watch all of you.”
Inuyasha folded his arms on his chest and smirked. He would not act as these youkais, he was not a girl and would not be treated like one. Kiramaru was crazy.
“He was caught two days ago and since then he is under poison subduing, he will need another thing to subdue his power and behavior. “
“I have a rosary and some special ofudas to subdue him Kiramaru-shihan.”
A youkai dressed as a miko said that in a very low and clam voice. Inuyasha was almost jumping over the table and killing her, he actually stood up, but had his wrist grabbed by Kiramaru.
“Sit. Miiko-chan give me the rosary and ofudas.”
“Here they are Kiramaru-shihan.”
“The rosary will be something handful by now my yasha, it will subdue you, and will also make you closer to me, you will see that I do like the effects these rosaries have.” While Kiramaru was saying that, he put the rosary on Inuyasha’s neck.
Inuyasha hold the rosary and was pulling out the rosary when Kiramaru said the subdue word.
“Gaki”
The red rosary started to glow a white bright light and Inuyasha was thrown to the wall, he fell to the floor and was unable to move.
“What was that?”
“That is the word that will subdue you, all the time you try to be a “bad boy”, I will say g-a-k-i word and you will be thrown to a wall or something like one and unable to move for some minutes. You are going to have some broken bones and lot of pain in the process and also can not move. However, I think it is better than having the poison all the time inject in your veins, don’t you think my yasha?”
“Why?”
“I told you. I will break you, and I know this will be a long process, I am not a fool, you are not the first, before you, I had many newbie slaves; they all tried to run away and do other nasty things. And I know you are wondering a way to kill me and run away, and I know that even with the poison, the rosary and all the possible punishments I will give you, you will try to run away before be ready and broken.”
Inuyasha was red in fury and shame. How could he be that transparent?
“Don’t worry my yasha… you will see that not only you but many in here also have their rosaries and they use them for the same reason as you do.”
“Kiramaru-shihan…”
“Yes my dear…”
“Which stage will yasha-chan start?”
“The first one, he is too young, less than 150 years old, for a long period you will have a first stage. The house will have a very young imouto. Even Inuyasha being a he, from now on we will treat him as a she – my yasha will continue to wear during the day hakamas and yukatas, but I want my yasha in a kimono, all evenings. You all must address my yasha, only as imouto and my yasha must address you and the others as Oneesan and Oniisan.
In addition, my yasha must always have zoris or okobos and tabis on. To start the okobos won’t be that high, because my yasha didn’t wear a zori until last night.”
Kiramaru paused for some second to drink some tea, and look at Inuyasha, that was on the floor yet, at the same place the rosary had thrown him. Kiramaru smiled and continued.
“So during the day my yasha is going to do works as a servant, cleaning, doing errands and so on. He will need someone to teach the job at first, so he will be able to perform it properly later on and alone. Ne?”
“Hai, Kiramaru-shihan.” all the youkais around the table replied.
“At night, dressed in red, my yasha will sit quietly on the corner of the main room and observe all of you at work. Ne?
“Hai, Kiramaru-shihan.”
“My yasha this way may learn the ways a royal yasha, unfortunately my yasha will become known and be seen. But I will make it known that my yasha is on training.”
Inuyasha was red again, now only in shame, how could that be happening to him, what, during his short hanyou’s life had he done to deserve such a fate?
He held up himself, rested his head on his knees, and continued listening the absurd, that crazy youkai was saying.
“ My yasha will also be trained in a number of traditional skills such as ancient dance, singing, playing instruments, flower arrangement, how to wear properly a kimono, the tea ceremony, calligraphy, conversation, and drinking serving manners and more, as all of you had been trained and are still practicing. Ne?
“Hai, Kiramaru-shihan.”
“You will also teach my yasha to demonstrate beauty, grace, artistic talent, charm, impeccable etiquette, and refinement outside this house, in the main room, and later on in a bed in someone’s chambers. Ne?
“Hai, Kiramaru-shihan.”
“By now, I think I’m done here. I will be upstairs in my office working and my yasha will be with you. You can show him the house and start the training as soon as he finishes his breakfast.”
“Hai, Kiramaru-shihan.”
“Yasha, behave or I will use the subdue word repeatedly. And I know you would not like that. Stand up now. You listened to all you and the others have to do, it is already too late.”
Inuyasha was standing up and walking to the table when Kiramaru, already close the door said.
“Ah… just to make you aware of my advice… and do not forget about me till the dinner… ‘Gaki’ “
Kiramaru glared to the crashed small hanyou on the wall and left the room with an evil grin.

Inuyasha was able to stand and the youkais were helping him to get to the table, they had already prepared his breakfast and were chatting about the entire things he must learn and who and how would teach him each of the activities.
“Sorry, but I can not avoid imouto-chan, but your ears are so cute, may I touch them?” Said one of them with her hangs already touching the cat like ears.
And he heard lost of “I’d love to touch them, too” and by the time they finished, Inuyasha was as red as his clothes and also his ears were red and hot.
Inuyasha used to love being touched there by his mother, but since other people start to abuse and hurt his ears he got too annoyed to appreciate it and he wondered if one day people would stop doing that.
But at that moment, it was different in a way, they were touching him and his ears, but they were not hurting him, they all had delicate hands and their touches were comfortable.
They also touch his hair, and he heard that he was the first with white-silver hair and that would make many clients to like him, in the future.
“I want to comb imouto-chan’s hair everyday.”
“So I will do it everyday.”
“Imouto-chan, you are a hanyou, but since one of your parents is human, the other is a…?”
“Inu...”
“That’s why you are named Inuyasha?”
“hnn… I do not know, never cared about that…“
“You are a inu-hanyou but looks like a neko-hanyou, the fur on your ears is so soft, and your hair, I am a neko-youkai from the northern mountains and you look like the kittens I have seen there long time ago.”
“Do I…?”
“Yes, you do.”
“You also look like a human, if you had dark eyes and without those ears, even with your light hair you could be take by a human.”
“I have heard, that hanyous change to their human form once in a while, is that true imouto-chan?”
Inuyasha panic, he stood up and started to leave the room, they all screamed, trying to avoid his departure. But he would face the consequences. Because he knew he couldn’t be in a place where people would know about his strongest weakness, he was there because that strange and tall youkai had discovered it, now all that females, would know and they would tell any and everybody.
He needed to leave, as soon as possible or they had this fact confirmed by the next new moon.
“Please, do not go, Kiramaru-shihan will punish you hard if you go. And we also have so much to chat and teach you.”
Miiko, the small calm woman, that gave Kiramaru the rosary that subdues him, was holding his hand. She was smiling, and her warm hand was sending him waves of calmness and he stayed. He decided to stay, at least for sometime.
“I can’t stay here.”
“Don’t worry about that now, you will get used to everything in here and also have good friends.”
Smiling she guided him to a room that had an internal garden.
“I will teach you imouto-chan how to clean this area and the proper way to take care of the garden and change the flowers from the vases, one of your daily tasks will be changing the flowers from all the vases of the house… and… “
While she was showing him around, she was listing all his future work there.

Okasan 'Mother' the term used for those who run Okiya
Onsen Volcanic hot springs, a popular leisure attraction for many Japanese, and the home of 'onsen geisha' or 'low geisha' who perform for tourists.
Onsen-geisha 'hot springs geisha' These are usually untrained 'geisha' who serve alcohol and service parties. This is a term for low class geisha as onsen-geisha are not culturally refined nor dedicated to their position much as Tokyo or Kyoto geisha
Minarai The observation period where a maiko trains by observing her onesan
Mizuage 'The flowing of the waters' when a maiko loses her virginity, once this was a traded commodity but Japanese law forbids this practice now.
O-zashiki 'Tatami room' A party or banquet, the term is used by geisha to refer to their appointments
Sake Rice wine, can be served hot or cold. Beware it's strong!
Shamisen 3 stringed guitar style instrument played by geisha. The Shamisen is dismantled and carried in a box between performances. Traditionally shamisen were covered with cat skin for the best sound.
Shikomi An era of training now dying out, shikomi is the period before minarai where a young girl serves as a maid or house girl prior to becoming a maiko.
Tachikata Geisha who dance, often these geisha are more expensive or more in demand than their musical geisha counterparts.
Taikomochi Male geisha, these are more comedic entertainers than cultural ones and are now dying out.
Ukiyo-e 'Pictures of the floating world' woodblock prints of the pleasure quarter areas in the Edo period.
Ko-uta Short shamisen songs frequently performed by Geisha
Danna A long term geisha patron, who supports a geiko financially and enjoys a special relationship with her (may lead to sexual activity, but not necessarily)
Han-gyoku Tokyo apprenticeship geisha
San san kudo 'Three threes, nine times' a ceremony involving taking 3 sips of a sake cup, 3 times over, shared with a partner. This is a part of the traditional Japanese marriage ceremony but for geiko and maiko this is the practice used to bind a maiko to her onesan at misedashi.
Yu-u-jo Literally "play girls" courtesans of the Edo period walled Pleasure quarters. The Yuujo were divided into classes, the highest of these were the Tayu which many mistake for Geisha.Yuujo were prostitutes of varying classes, it should be remembered that these practices are outlawed in post-Meiji Japan and that Geisha are not for sexual sale.
Yu-u-kaku The walled pleasure quarters. Designed to control prostitution and minimise social uprising the yuukaku was a place a man (of considerable wealth) could enjoy himself for up to 3 days. The Pleasure Quarters sent more than one man to the debt collectors. Though samurai were forbidden from visiting the pleasure quarter it was often tolerated; though many kept the charade of disguising themselves for visits.
Oiran The highest classes of prositutes including the Tayu. Oiran had a pleasure ill afforded many yuujo - they could refuse their clients, and could choose why they spent time with. Oiran were seen as a mark of status, if you could afford their prices and gain there interest you had truly made it.
Kemban The geisha 'union' offices, usually held in the kaburenjo for each hanamachi.

Hanadai Flower money, the rate of pay for a geiko. Maiko are usually paid at half hanadai, geiko at full. Geiko may set the rate of their hanadai depending on demand and quality of the service.
Iki Simplistic chic, a style of fashion for which the Geisha are known
Jikata Geisha who sing or are musically proficient in instruments such as the drums, shamisen or Japanese flute. These geisha often accompany the dancing geiko who get more of the glory.
Kaburenjo The meeting place for each Hanamachi, usually contains a theatre and offices and the geisha schools
Onesan 'Older sister' a term used by a maiko or geiko to her elder geisha mentor
Okasan 'Mother' the term used for those who run Okiya
Onsen Volcanic hot springs, a popular leisure attraction for many Japanese, and the home of 'onsen geisha' or 'low geisha' who perform for tourists.
Onsen-geisha 'hot springs geisha' These are usually untrained 'geisha' who serve alcohol and service parties. This is a term for low class geisha as onsen-geisha are not culturally refined nor dedicated to their position much as Tokyo or Kyoto geisha
Minarai The observation period where a maiko trains by observing her onesan
Mizuage 'The flowing of the waters' when a maiko loses her virginity, once this was a traded commodity but Japanese law forbids this practice now.
O-zashiki 'Tatami room' A party or banquet, the term is used by geisha to refer to their appointments
Sake Rice wine, can be served hot or cold. Beware it's strong!
Shamisen 3 stringed guitar style instrument played by geisha. The Shamisen is dismantled and carried in a box between performances. Traditionally shamisen were covered with cat skin for the best sound.
Shikomi An era of training now dying out, shikomi is the period before minarai where a young girl serves as a maid or house girl prior to becoming a maiko.
Tachikata Geisha who dance, often these geisha are more expensive or more in demand than their musical geisha counterparts.
Taikomochi Male geisha, these are more comedic entertainers than cultural ones and are now dying out.

Danna A long term geisha patron, who supports a geiko financially and enjoys a special relationship with her (may lead to sexual activity, but not necessarily)
Han-gyoku Tokyo apprenticeship geisha
San san kudo 'Three threes, nine times' a ceremony involving taking 3 sips of a sake cup, 3 times over, shared with a partner. This is a part of the traditional Japanese marriage ceremony but for geiko and maiko this is the practice used to bind a maiko to her onesan at misedashi.
Yu-u-jo Literally "play girls" courtesans of the Edo period walled Pleasure quarters. The Yuujo were divided into classes, the highest of these were the Tayu which many mistake for Geisha.Yuujo were prostitutes of varying classes, it should be remembered that these practices are outlawed in post-Meiji Japan and that Geisha are not for sexual sale.
Yu-u-kaku The walled pleasure quarters. Designed to control prostitution and minimise social uprising the yuukaku was a place a man (of considerable wealth) could enjoy himself for up to 3 days. The Pleasure Quarters sent more than one man to the debt collectors. Though samurai were forbidden from visiting the pleasure quarter it was often tolerated; though many kept the charade of disguising themselves for visits.
Oiran The highest classes of prositutes including the Tayu. Oiran had a pleasure ill afforded many yuujo - they could refuse their clients, and could choose why they spent time with. Oiran were seen as a mark of status, if you could afford their prices and gain there interest you had truly made it.
Kemban The geisha 'union' offices, usually held in the kaburenjo for each hanamachi.
