Where I Last Saw You
Chapter 3: Where I Last Saw You
A/N: Hope you enjoy the latest chapter of my story, but I still do not own Inuyasha unfortunately. And to all of you rude reviewers I’d just like to say…..if my story is so fucking bad then stop reading it! Duh, idiots! But a nice big thank you to all of the mature reviewers who left encouraging messages. Thanks for being grown up enough to call out those jerks who obviously had nothing better to do than to leave mean reviews. JNow on to my story!
Kagome had not woken up until the sun was beginning to peek above the horizon causing the room to be bathed in a soft golden orange light. Her blue gray eyes fluttered open to stare into a familiar pair of amber pools. Still not fully awake she threw herself into the unsuspecting arms of whom she thought to be her beloved Inuyasha. “Inuyasha, I’ve missed you so much!”
Kagome leaned up and pressed her petal soft pink lips against what she mistook for Inuyasha’s lips. Sesshomaru gently pushed Kagome out of his arms. “Kagome, it’s me Sesshomaru. Inuyasha is not here.”
“Oh Sesshomaru, I’m so sorry, forgive me!”
“It’s alright Kagome, I realize that my brother and I do look a lot alike. Are you ready to show me where you last saw Inuyasha?”
“Yes.” Kagome allowed Sesshomaru to help ho heo her feet. After a large breakfast Sesshomaru and Kagome headed to the spot where she had spent her last night with Inuyasha before Kikyo took him to Hell. “Sesshomaru?”
“Yes Kagome?”
“Why did you let me sleep so long?”
“Because you were tired. Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, wonderful, thank you.” He nodded. After a while of silence Sesshomaru spoke his silken voice startling Kagome.
“Kagome?”
“Yes Sesshomaru?”
“How did you let Inuyasha follow Kikyo into Hell knowing that you would be with pup?”
“I didn’t really have a choice.” He stared at her with confusion etched onto his beautiful face so she tried to explain. “Inuyasha made a promise to Kikyo long before he realized that he loved me.”
“Inuyasha was a fool.” Kagome shot him a nasty look that made him stare at the ground quickly. “Forgive me Kagome, it’s just I fail to understand why Inuyasha would keep a promise to a woman that tried to end his life many times instead of choosing to live with the woman he loves.”
“Honor means a great deal to Inuyasha and breaking a promise is very dishonorable.”
“Do you not hate Kikyo for taking my brother away from you?” Kagome remained silent for a moment not really sure if she knew how to answer Sesshomaru’s last question.
“Hate is a very consuming emotion and it can taint even the purest of souls.” Sesshomaru smiled knowing full well that Kagome had skillfully dodged truthfully answering his question. Kagome suddenly stopped short causing Sesshomaru to immediately reach for his sword.
“What is it Kagome?”
“This place.”
“What about this place?”
“This is the place where I last saw Inuyasha.” Sesshomaru’s amber eyes swept over the clearing until they fell upon the Goshinboku tree.
“This is where Inuyasha followed that wench Kikyo into Hell?” Kagome nodded and began padding over towards the huge tree that towered high in the sky above them. Sesshomaru watched in confusion as Kagome knelt before the tree and then stared up into its thick green leafy canopy.
She sat silent for a moment and then suddenly she let out a mournful sounding cry. In a blur of white Sesshomaru was at Kagome’s side. He went to pull her to her feet but she jerked away from him. “Don’t touch me! Leave me be!”
“Kagome?”
“Oh Inuyasha! I need you to be here with me! Not down in Hell with Kikyo!” Sesshomaru grabbed Kagome by the shoulders and shook her firmly but gently so he did not harm her.
“Kagome! Stop this nonsense! Either you can get yourself together or we will return to my palace!” Kagome was immediately silenced by Sesshomaru’s venomous tone towards her. But it still did not stop the steady stream of tears that was flowing down her cheeks.
Down in Hell Kikyo was watching Kagome and Sesshomaru through the mirror of time. She smirked hatefully at the sight of Kagome sobbing over her lost love. “Serves that little wench right! She stole Inuyasha from me now it’s only fair that she suffers the same loss as I did!” Hades crept up behind Kikyo unnoticed by the bitter priestess.
“Still bearing a grudge toward the woman that Inuyasha loves I see?” Kikyo whirled around quickly her brown eyes narrowing into two thin slits.
“What do you care if I still hate that girl who has taken my place in Inuyasha’s heart?”
“You are a priestess I thought that it was below them to hate?” Kikyo rolled her eyes at Hades remark.
“I’m no longer a priestess so it doesn’t matter if I bear a grudge towards my reincarnation.”
“Such time is wasted on hate Kikyo, have you nothing better to do?”
“Not really since I am eternally damned to spend the rest of my days watching Inuyasha love that wench thanks to you!” Hades sighed and turned to walk away. Kikyo turned back to look into the mirror of time to watch Kagome.
“Why don’t you just let him go Kikyo?”
“Because he belongs to me! Inuyasha will forever belong to me!”
“Kagome, the Shikon Jewel can lead us to where Inuyasha is.” Kagome stared up at him stupidly so he knelt down beside her. “Take the jewel off your necklace.” Kagome did as she was told and unclasped her necklace. She carefully placed the Shikon jewel into the palm of her right hand. “Now, wish for the jewel to allow you to see where Inuyasha is.”
She nodded and then held the jewel close to her heart. Kagome closed her eyes and returned to a standing position. Sesshomaru watched as the soft pink aura began to quickly envelope Kagome’s body. ‘Hear me oh great and powerful Midoriko, guardian of the sacred Shikon jewel, I wish for you to show me where my beloved Inuyasha has gone! Please grant my wish for it is the only thing my heart truly desires, for my unborn son to know his father!’
Sesshomaru’s amber eyes stayed glued to Kagome as her face twisted into a look of enlightenment. Her blue gray eyes fluttered open and she stared at him for a long time before speaking. “I saw him!”
“Inuyasha?”
“Yes I saw Inuyasha!”
“Where? Where is he?”
“He is in some elaborate shrine turned cottage on a mountainside. It has a pitch black shingled rooftop and a line of gold trim accenting the roof all the way around.”
“What else?”
“There is a large black stone wall surrounding the entire cottage with a large white dog carved onto the huge wooden doors leading into it. Do you know of such a place Sesshomaru?”
“Yes, that is the shrine cottage that our father had built for Inuyasha and his mother to live in.”
“Where is it?”
“Father had once told me that the shrine cottage was nestled on a mountainside on the northern border of my territory in the Western lands.”
“Well come on let’s go!” Kagome grabbed his hand and yanked him towards the Western lands. Sesshomaru and Kagome arrived back at his palace quickly so that they could saddle up his two headed dragon pack animal named Ah-Uhn. Kagome was anxious to get going as Sesshomaru placed the saddle onto the large beast’s back. He lifted Kagome onto the front saddle and then climbed on behind her. His strong arms circled her pregnant stomach and he took hold of the reigns. Kagome closed her eyes as they took to the skies in search of Inuyasha.
Kagome’s eyes scanned the countryside wildly looking for a glimpse of the shrine that she had seen in her mind’s eye. “Sesshomaru?”
“Yes Kagome?”
“What if we don’t find Inuyasha?”
“Why would you ask that Kagome?”
“Because what if he is still in Hell? What if the Shikon jewel was wrong?”
“Kagome, that jewel is all powerful and has the ability to make any wish that you desire a reality. I am certain that Inuyasha is where the jewel has foreseen him to be.” She smiled at Sesshomaru’s matter of fact answer and then leaned back against his strong chest. Sesshomaru looked down at her to see her eyes still darting back and forth searching for his father’s shrine cottage. He smiled at her devotion to his little brother and silently wished that he himself had someone that truly cared enough for him the way that Kagome cared for Inuyasha.
Kagome’s blue gray eyes caught sight of a pitch black rooftop gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight high on the mountainside. She nudged Sesshomaru with her shoulder to get his attention. “I see it! Over there!”
“Yes, that’s it.” Sesshomaru steered Ah-Uhn towards the shrine cottage and brought the dragon to land in front of the estate. There in front of them was the huge black stone wall with two large wooden doors. On the doors was the carving of the great white dog that Kagome had seen.
“Is that-”
“Mine and Inuyasha’s father? Yes, that is our father, the great Lord Inutaisho.”
“Inutaisho?
“Yes, that was his name.”
“I see, so is that where Inuyasha got his name from?”
“Perhaps. His mother wanted to name him something after our father and decided on Inuyasha.”
“The name suits him well.”
“I suppose, but you would know that better than I would.” Sesshomaru then climbed down from Ah-Uhn and helped Kagome to get down as well. “Are you ready to go inside?”
“Yes, let’s do it.” He nodded and led her up to the front doors of the shrine cottage. Sesshomaru opened the doors allowing Kagome to walk in ahead of himself. He quickly pulled her back behind him once they were inside the gate for protection from any possible danger. Kagome clung tightly to Sesshomaru’s left arm as they walked through the eerily silent courtyard that was filled with many large and unkempt jasmine bushes that were now beginning to grow up the side of the shrine cottage. In the middle of the courtyard was a large white marble fountain of Lord Inutaisho and a beautiful human woman Kagome could only guess was Inuyasha’s mother.
“Sesshomaru?”
“Yes?”
“The statue of the woman and man on the fountain, who are they?”
“The man is mine and Inuyasha’s father, Lord Inutaisho, and the woman is Inuyasha’s mother, Lady Myeesah.” Once past the fountain they came to stand in front of the magnificent black stone steps that led up to the main wooden doorway to the shrine cottage.
“This place is beautiful Sesshomaru.” He nodded silently. Inside the shrine cottage Inuyasha’s amber eyes snapped open abruptly when Kagome’s familiar scent invaded his nose. He sat up quickly looking around for the source of her scent.
“Kagome?” He sniffed deeply and then his eyes narrowed when he picked up Sesshomaru’s scent as well. “Sesshomaru! What the hell is he doing with my Kagome?” Inuyasha hauled himself out of bed and hurried to trontront of the house. He waited in the dark shadows of the foyer for them to come inside. Sesshomaru walked in first his sword Tokijin drawn and ready to strike. Kagome padded silently in after him and Inuyasha’s heart throbbed painfully in his chest when he saw her pregnant stomach through her long ivory sleeping kimono.
Sesshomaru sniffed the air carefully and then turned his gaze to the shadowy far corner of the foyer where Inuyasha was hiding. “Inuyasha, is that you?” The hanyou melted at the sound of his beloved Kagome’s voice and crept out of the shadows into the light for her to see him. She instantly ran to where he was and flung herself into his arms. “Oh Inuyasha it is you! I have missed you so much!” Inuyasha glared at Sesshomaru as he pulled Kagome into his embrace as tightly as her rounded stomach would allow him to do.
“What are you doing here with Kagome Sesshomaru?” Kagome turned in Inuyasha’s arms to face Sesshomaru.
“I’m merely looking for you little brother.”
“Feh, I don’t buy that! Why are you really tagging along with her?”
“What aou iou insinuating Inuyasha?”
“You care for her don’t you? Are you in love with her?”
“With who? Kagome?”
“Yes Kagome! You love Kagome don’t you? You want her for your mate don’t you Sesshomaru?”
“Stop this foolish nonsense Inuyasha, I am not in love with your wench. She is pregnant with your brat why would I desire her as my mate?”
“You’ve always taken everything that I ever wanted, so why stop with the woman I love?” Kagome stepped in between the two brothers placing her hands on Inuyasha’s broad chest.
“Inuyasha please stop this, Sesshomaru is not in love with me! He is the one who asked me to help find you!”
“Is that true Sesshomaru?”
“Yes, I asked Kagome to use the Shikon jewel to find you.” Inuyasha pulled Kagome back into his arms and hugged her tightly.
“Thank Kami you found me Kagome! There was a barrier on the well and I couldn’t get through it! I thought I would never see you again! I love you so much!”
“I love you too Inuyasha!” Sesshomaru watched silently as the two reunited lovers shared their first kiss since the day Inuyasha had followed Kikyo to Hell. It was a sight beautiful enough even to tug at the strings of his frozen heart.
