Forgiveness

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Hiei went for the youkai holding the staff, his katana came down and met air. He snarled and turned. The man was nowhere to be seen, he'd disappeared. "Dammit." All the others were being taken care of, his gaze went to Kagome. She was on the neko once more, hovering near the bat youkai.

Kuronue looked down, everyone had been taken care of only he was left. The girl moaned in his arms, she needed to be healed soon. Her arm tightened around his neck and he heard the outraged yell below.
He knew Youko wanted at him, his thoughts confirmed when a vine snaked out the ground going for his feet. He dodged moving out the way.

Kagome saw the vine and turned; Youko was doing it. She told Kirara to land in front of him, the fox didn't pay her any attention. "Hey you, I'm talking to you. I don't care if you are pissed, stop it now. He has Sango in his arms, you could hurt her on accident."

Hiei landed next to him, "She's right, control your rage. The girl is fading we need to get her some help. Stop it, save it for later."

"Hand her over." The amber eyes still filled with rage. His claws ached to shred his old friend into pieces for touching what belonged to him. It didn't matter what excuse there was, he'd touched her. His gaze watched him land but he didn't release her. "I said hand her over."

"Enough, we need to get her to Genkai's. Give her to the houshi," Hiei suggested. The bat youkai walked over to the man in purple.

Miroku gently took his wife from the man, "Sango?" He wrapped his arms around her causing her to scream in pain. Anger filled him at seeing the many bruises forming on her face.

She looked up into his worried eyes and smiled. Worry filled her when she heard a growl then Hiei and Yusuke screaming. She turned her head to see Youko trying to go after Kuronue while the other two men held him. "Stop." Her shout caused everyone to stop, she looked directly at Youko. "You will not touch him. I have earned the right to ask this, no one is to harm him. I want him to come back with us."

"Sango are you sure?" Kagome asked. She saw the injured girl nod with tears in her eyes. "I see," Of course, if for some reason the man hadn't been in complete control of his actions Sango wouldn't fault him. It would remind her too much of Kohaku. "You heard her, if anyone has reason to seek his death it is her. She doesn't want him harmed, don't touch him. Now, we need to get her to a healer."

They arrived back at Genkai's, Sango nodded off every now and then. Kagome assured her that Kuronue was behind them and that the others were keeping Kurama controlled. So Sango let herself try to rest as the two women worked over her. She had asked Kagome to stay outside to make sure nothing happened. If anyone had a right to want to kill him, it was her. Then again she knew that Kurama had a reason to be angry. He'd just found out that his old partner was trying to kill him and he had tried to kill his mother. Anyone would feel betrayed after that, yet she couldn't let Kurama kill him. He'd been used and his mind played with. If he'd been in his right mind it wouldn't have happened. She'd also heard them speak about him being imprisoned. She could only imagine what had happened to him there. He wasn't responsible for his actions, not in her eyes.

If anyone deserved to die it was the man pulling the strings. She would soon see how he felt when she left his corpse to feed the rats. Her body felt a lot better after they were through, she asked them to get Kagome for her. She felt the need to speak to her before sleep claimed her.

The miko walked in and ran to the bed, "Please tell me that you are okay."

"I'm fine, tired. Kagome I need you to do something for me. Make sure they do not blame him, don't let them hurt him. I heard them talking, he's not at fault. Please I was willing to risk my life to save him from it, not let them make it in vain. I was able to save him." A tear slid down her face.

"I understand." Kagome wiped the tear and watched her eyes close. She knew why Sango felt that way and so did Miroku. They would do what they could.

Miroku at the moment was standing next to the bat youkai thinking about jumping for cover. The others were ready to take his head. He understood how Sango felt but his death wouldn't accomplish anything. And the man had beaten and raped her.

"If you are her husband how can you stand there and try to defend him?" Kuwabara asked. His own anger raising, he was with Kurama. They should tear his head off and shit down his neck. "I say we kill him."

"No, if one of you so much as lays a finger on him, I'll kill you myself." Kagome walked out into the large room. Her aura flared as she walked, "I think she has earned the right to decide."

"You would agree with her?" Hiei glared at her.

"No I don't. I want nothing more than to tear his dick off but I made her a promise. I'm sure Miroku feels the same way as I do."

"Why?" This came from Kuronue. He was more than prepared to take whatever punishment dealt out. If Youko's eyes said anything it meant death.

"Because you have to know Sango. None of you were there, we were. Sango's brother was once controlled, his memories erased. Naraku took him over causing him to kill not only their father but a few other of their comrades. Then Kohaku turned on her, he almost suceeded in killing her. For months Naraku controlled her brother causing him to a lot of bad things, she still tried to save him. In the end she felt that she failed, he died in her arms. She doesn't blame Kuronue, she faults the one behind it. She asks that none of you retailate against him."

"Hn." Hiei thought the girl was wrong but kept his opinion to himself.

The others started mumbling to themselves but stopped the death threats. Kuronue looked over at the group, his eyes landed on Kurama. His eyes took in the red hair and the green eyes, eyes filled with rage. He didn't make a move but his eyes clearly stated that it wasn't over. Which was fine with him, when the time came they would settle it.

Sango rolled over in the bed, she felt something digging into her hand. Her fingers opened, the pendant was still laying in her hand. That whole time she'd never let go. There was a dark aura around it, maybe Kagome could do something with it. The man had said it had meant a lot to Kuronue. She stood up and walked out the room. Her legs were wobbly at first but soon she was fine.

She found Kagome in a large room talking to the elderly woman, "Kagome."

"Sango you shouldn't be out of bed."

"I'm fine. I want you to do something for me." Sango's eyes roamed over the room. She recognized everyone sitting there, even Koenma was standing there. He stopped talking when she entered. Her eyes ran over Kurama, he was glaring at her. She assumed he was mad because she had taken away his revenge. Hurt filled her at the penetrating gaze, she turned back to the miko. "This is what I pulled of his neck. The one guy said something about a ward being placed on it to contain his memories. See if you can get rid of it for me." She didn't see Kuronue but sensed someone outside.

"Okay." Kagome took it from her.

Genkai looked at it, she could sense the spell weaved around it. "Let me see your hand." Sango gave it to her. "Thought so, it will be permanent."

"Just one of many." Sango pulled her hand back. She'd felt the pendant burn into her hand the moment she'd grabbed it. It was no suprise that a scar had been left.

"Wow, this is nasty." Kagome focused her power into it. "I'm suprised you managed to get it off. There got it."

"Hmph," Genkai was impressed that the girl had been able to remove the curse.

Sango extended her hand, "Thanks, I appreciate it. Is that him outside?" She saw Genkai nod, she wanted to return it to him personally. Upon recieving it back she walked across the room, a voice stopped her.

"Where are you going?"

She turned to see Kurama stand up, she also could see the anger in his eyes. Something else was there and it made her heart ache. Hate burned in the green depths. So he hated her now for trying to save Kuronue. Her blood ran cold, him hating her was only a small step down from what he'd originally felt. She gave him her back, what she did was none of his concern.

"I should go against your wishes and kill him anyways."

"Do it and you will have to kill me." She walked out and closed the door behind her. A hand landed on her shoulder causing her to jump. She met Kuronue's eyes and tried to smile. Remorse and guilt filled them, telling her she'd done the right thing.

"You can't interfere forever." He dropped his hand, wouldn't do well for Kurama to open the door and see it. As soon as they caught the one responsible, he would let the fox have what he wanted. Even if it was his death. "When this is over he will call me out."

"No, it wasn't your fault. Besides it's not like you suceeded in killing anyone, he's fine and so is his family. I can understand him feeling betrayed but you couldn't help what you did."

Kuronue looked at her, her forgiveness touched him. Then her words made sense, she thought he wanted his death because of feeling betrayed. Didn't she understand that it was because of her. Then her words came back, what she'd said before he'd raped her. The girl honestly believed that she meant nothing to his old partner. For a while he had believed it also. Which left him confused. Why would Youko defile her in such a manner if she meant so much to him? Yet Kuronue could see it in his eyes and in his actions. He considered the girl to be his, he just hadn't claimed her yet.

"Oh here, this is yours. It's what they were using to repress your memories. Don't worry Kagome took away the spell." She held the pendant out to him. "Before I head back inside I want you to know that I forgive you and I don't blame you."
