A/N: For those that want to know Kagome's story will be told in due time. Her day will come!
Chapter Twenty-Six
Kurama's thoughts plaqued him as the group made their way through the Makai. Thankfully Koenma had been informed and Yusuke had volunteered to help. Everyone along with Yusuke and Kuwabara rode on Puu while Kagome and the houshi rode on the neko. They flew across the sky trying to get there in time. He was thankful for the ride, it meant getting to Sango that much sooner. He prayed that she was okay, he didn't know what he'd do if anything happened to her.
He couldn't understand how Kuronue was alive. Why would he turn on him, it didn't make sense. They had been partners for a long time, centuries. So why would he want him dead? Better yet where had he been for the last century? Something wasn't right if it was really his old friend. He'd find out what was going on. No matter what had happened or the reason behind his friend's strange behavior; he would kill him if he hurt Sango. He was in his Youko form, as he searched the area. Hiei told them where to go, they were close.
Sango was dressed comtemplating her choices, she was injured badly and had no weapons. She doubted she could fight her way to where Kuronue was, nor could she just open the door and take a stroll. She heard the knob turn and layed back down, closing her eyes.
"Let's hurry so we don't miss the fight."
"Can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees what's left of her. Man Kuronue really worked her over." She felt herself being tossed over the speaker's shoulder. "I'm suprised she's still alive, good he can watch her die."
"Yeah," Harsh laughter filled the room. "Come on Kuronue wants her before they arrive. They'll be here in a few minutes."
Sango felt the man begin walking, it caused pain to shoot in her ribs. She kept her breathing even, not wanting to give herself away. They were taking her straight to Kuronue, it was better than she had hoped. She wouldn't allow him to kill Kurama, nor Kurama to be hurt by some sick bastard.
Kurama spotted them standing outside and Yusuke ordered Puu to land close by. Before the beast landed he jumped off and ran over. He stopped several yards away, his heart pounding. Kuronue stood with several men near him, waiting. When he got close enough he shouted. "Where is she?"
His partner looked up and smiled, "So I was correct, you did come for her. Or is she merely second to the staff? I find it hard to believe you came this fast just for a whore."
He felt rage fill him, "If you've harmed her in anyway you'll die. Where is she?"
"So I was right in my first assumption, she does mean something to you. Perfect."
Sango heard their voices but didn't dare lift her head. They were taking her straight to Kuronue it seemed, soon she'd be within distance. What were they saying? She tried to concentrate but the blood was rushing to her head and her stomach threatened to empty itself.
Kurama saw the man carrying her and he felt like he'd been kicked in the chest. He could smell her blood, he couldn't tell how bad she was hurt. His nose picked up the scent of his old partner coming from her body. "You bastard, you will die."
"You shouldn't threaten me while I still have her."
Sango felt herself being tossed off his shoulders to land against a hard chest. An arm came around her waist holding her up. She knew it was Kuronue holding her, then she felt his claws go to her throat.
"Threaten me again and I will rip her throat out."
Silence filled the air, no one dared to move. Sango felt something pressing into the back of her head, right where a necklace would hang. Could that be the pendant the men had spoke of? But how to get it before he managed to kill her.
"Release her." She heard Kurama speak.
"Not yet, I might keep her. I wondered why you would be enamored with a human tramp. Now, I know why. I've never had a tighter fuck, I enjoyed her immensely. Don't move."
Sango felt the claws begin to dig in her neck and moaned. Her eyes snapped open from the pain, her vision was blurred. She felt him turn her body so he could force her to look at him.
"Look, your fox has come for you. Shall I tell him of the fun we've had?" He brought his lips down on hers painfully.
Sango saw her chance her hand came up like she was merely going to touch his chest. Her palm closed around the pendant, it burned into her flesh but she held on. She tugged down hard, it snapped under the force. It stayed in her hand as his lips stayed pressed into her.
Kurama felt his rage consuming him, as he had to watch him. Hiei spoke to him suddenly, 'Whatever happens don't attack him.'
The fox sneered, 'He will die.'
'No, something is happening. Control your rage and look.'
Kuronue felt a wave of pain crash through his mind, millions of memories flooded his mind all at once. Centuries filled him; his childhood, his youthful days, his days as a bandit and then the ones of Youko. It all came crashing back as he stood there with his lips pressed against the girl. Then the day him and Youko had tried to rob somewhere came back. He saw flashbacks of his chain breaking, him going back, pain and then him telling Youko to save himself. He vaguely remembered being taken, years of torture and then nothing. His next coherent was thought after was that he hated Youko, thoughts of revenge entered his mind. Seeing Youko's face as the fox tortured him were there but it was wrong. Youko hadn't been the one to do it. Some youkai had purchased him not long after his imprisonment, he had been the one to do it.
Why had the need for revenge filled him? He heard the girl in his arms moan in pain. Unknowningly his arms had tightened around her causing her more harm. His eyes widened, he had been the one to do it. Other memories came back, what he'd done the last two months came back. Filled with rage he'd gone after the staff then he'd worked with the very same man that had tortured him. Rage filled him knowning that he'd been used.
Sango felt his mouth leave hers to go to her ear, he whispered. "I'm sorry." She sighed in relief, it had worked. She nodded, now what was he going to do?
Kuronue looked up to see the eyes of his old partner bearing into him, they were filled with rage. Rage that wasn't misplaced, not really. He had kidnapped the woman and he had abused her. Yet he would let the fox have his revenge later. The woman was an innocent, she had to be seen to. He could sense the other youkai around him waiting.
Sango gasped when he made his move, he quickly picked her up in his arms. He took to the sky, suprising everyone. She threw her arm around his neck, holding on.
"Dammit, kill them both. She's removed the ward, kill that bitch."
Kuronue looked down at the man that had tortured him for almost a century. The man that had used him, to try and kill his old partner. He scowled at him, he should have let Youko kill the little bastard five centuries ago when they had killed his father. He felt the girl bury her head in his neck, blasts came at them.
The others moved going for the youkai on the ground except Kurama his attention on the two in the air.
