Chapter 24: It's Gettin' Hot In Here
Friday night was so long in coming that I swore I thought somebody had set back the clocks as well as the calendars just to drive me insane! I'd went shopping one afternoon a few days before and had experienced the most incredibly wicked time all by myself picking and choosing between several sexy getups before finally deciding on the perfect outfit to wear to The Met. I'd tried it on and stood looking at myself critically in front of my bedroom mirror for hours on end when I was sure nobody was home and I got a little thrill each time I gazed into the reflection and actually saw that it was ME staring right back.
I'd never worn jeans so tight and sexy as the ones I now sported. Extreme low riders were what they were called and as far as I was concerned, nothing had ever been truer. When I turned around to see how my butt looked in them for the very first time, I very nearly took them off and returned them for they were so very low that I could see my hip bones nudging up past the waistband of them. But then I took a second glance, assessing myself as I reckoned the guys at the club would be and decided they were exactly what the doctor had ordered!
Paired with the jeans, I'd found an electric blue sequined bra top that gave me the look of 'more' that I so desperately craved and to go along with it, a sheer overshirt in the same hot shade that I left unbuttoned and knotted just above my belly button. But my piece de resistance just HAD to be the silver belly chain I'd found on the spur of the moment that spelled my name out across the back as well as the front in tiny, dangling, charm sized silver letters. I'd decided to wear my hair down and flowing over my shoulders, giving it at least 200 strokes before I went down to hop into the car with an impatiently excited Kohaku. But not before I'd grabbed my long leather jacket to cover myself - I wanted to reveal my look to Kohaku once we got inside the club and not one minute before. I realized I was fairly trembling with excitement as I slid into my seat and smiled at him.
"Well you look happy tonight!", Kohaku grinned as he pulled away from the curb. "Did Daddy Hara let you out to play?", he asked, yelping when I smacked him a good one upside the head.
"He doesn't know.", I stammered, guilt flooding through my every vein.
"Can't say I e yoe you there, baby!", he laughed, rubbing the spot where I'ackeacked him. "Sesshomaru has some serious possessive issues when it comes to you, Rin. I mean, I have to admire the guy - but MAN! That look he gives when he's totally pissed - he's a fierce little bugger."
I groaned, putting my head into my hands as Kohaku prattled away, praying that he would never have the opportunity to slip up around Sesshomaru and talk trash such as he was right now. There'd be nothing but a grease spot left were Sesshomaru to overhear Kohaku saying such things about him.
"You excited, Rin?", he smiled, looping an arm around my neck to pull me against him as he drove. "Cause I sure as hell am! I'm ready to kick some major ASS tonight!! What if I win the competition?", he laughed, kissing me square in the middle of my forehead before letting me go.
"Don't get your hopes up, Kohaku. We both know you can't sing for shit and the dance you made up for this… it's not too much better.", I said, starting to ge.
e.
"That is SO not true! Kanna told me I have a strong singing voice, Rin!", he frowned.
TRONTRONG, not GOOD, Kohaku. You can be horrible and still have a strong voice, sweetie!", I laughed harder.
"Well… we'll just see about that!", he frowned and pressed the accelerator to the floor, getting us to the club in record time.
I stepped out of the car, taking his offered hand before walking toward the entrance of the place. The door had been painted in metallic silver and huge multicolored bulbs in every shade imaginable outlined the frame. I glanced over at Kohaku and held my breath. I couldn't believe I was actually going to be inside this wonderland within minutes!
Kohaku walked up to the bouncer that was propped just outside the door, thick arms crossed menacingly over his chest. I smiled up at him, squeezing Kohaku's hand as hard as I could and tried to appear cool and collected.
"Jinenji, my man! How's it going?", Kohaku chuckled, slapping a high five with the bouncer from hell. "I'm on tonight! I can feel it, I am going to win the prize toNIGHT!", he sang, turning toward me and doing a little boogie as I giggled.
"YOU? Never! Too much competition tonight, compadre! Trust me! Stardust is back tonight and you ain't got a snowball's chance in HELL of winning over them girls!", he laughed.
Kohaoverovered his heart with his free hand and prepared as if to die of heartbreak while Jinenji just shook his head and waved us on inside. As soon as we cleared the door, Kohaku drug me further into the place and picked me up in his arms, holding me tight and bouncing me around as he jumped for joy.
"I KNEW we could do it! Buzz is way cool! And hell, you LOOK old enough to pass anyways, Rin. You look gorgeous!", he grinned, tugging at the collar of my long leather jacket. "Wanna lose the coat? It's gonna get HOT in here!", he broke into song, parodying his own karaoke selection.
"Kohaku, that is SO bad!", I laughed, easing out of the jacket and handing it over to him. His eyes lit up like gas lanterns as he surveyed my sexy get up and I smiled proudly, twirling in front of him, my arms spread wide.
"Damn!", he whistled. "This girl's with ME!"
"You like?", I asked, studying his eyes as warmth and happiness spread inside me.
"LIKE? What's not to like, Rin? I love it! I'll have to keep my eye on you tonight. You have any problem playing the part of my girl?", he asked.
"I thought I already WAS your girl!", I pouted prettily, laughing when he winked at me.
"Be right back, I gotta check in your coat.", he said.
I was looking out over the huge dance floor even as he moved away, excited and eager to try it out. My eyes wandered to the stage in the center of the place and I was just getting ready to walk toward it when I felt a hand on my shoulder. Expecting Kohaku, I was surprised to find myself instead looking into a pair of deep brown eyes.
"Hi.", Brown Eyes spoke up, a slow smile spreading across an impressive set of lips.
"Hi.", I replied, totally captivated. This must be Man Heaven and I hoped I was Head Angel!
"I'm Rico. I haven't seen you here before and I know I'd remember you.", he said, stepping closer to me.
"No, it's my first time.", I answered, feeling his fingers catch mine for just a brief moment before I saw Kohaku's head loom over Rico's shoulder.
"Rin? What have I told you about messing with the help?" Kohaku asked, expertly yanking my hand away from Rico's as he slid his into its place.
"My boyfriend, he's got a possessive streak… sorry!", I shrugged as I was being drug quickly away.
"Hey bud! I don't work here!", Rico shouted toward our retreating backs.
"Sorry, Dude. My mistake. You sure look like you do.", Kohaku said and spirited me to one of the tables surrounding the clear acrylic dance floor. I spotted Kanna, Souten, Hakudoushi, Stephen and Shippo already there as I took one of the two vacant seats available.
"Rin! What's up?", Shippo grinned. "You look great!"
"Thanks. How long have you been here?", I asked. Of all Kohaku's buddies, Shippo was my favorite. He had the same laid back attitude as Kohaku as well the same pretty boy looks. I'd felt comfortable around him from the beginning because he treated me the same as he treated any of the others sitting around the table with us tonight.
"An hour, maybe more. You guys eat yet? The hot wings are primo!", he nodded, winking at me. I knew how much Shippo loved his hot wings, the hotter the better!
"Not yet. I don't want to eat before I perform.", Kohaku said seriously, leaning back in his chair.
"Oh God, Kohaku! Perform???", Kanna laughed, rolling her eyes toward me.
"Hell yeah! I've worked hard on this! Haven't I, Rin?", he asked, leaning forward to take my hand in his.
"Yeah, he's worked hard.", I agreed, wincing when he squeezed my fingers tightly against his. I threw him a look and saw the frown he had cast my way along with the slight shake of his head telling me that I needed to say no more in regards to his performance. I could've told him that as much as I wanted to giggle and pick at him, I was first and foremost loyal to him, nearly to a fault, and would never have hurt his feelings or revealed something he didn't want revealed in front of his friends for anything.
"Rin, want a burger?", Kanna asked, already rising from her seat.
"Sure.", I said and looked over at Kohaku as I got to my feet. "You sure you don't want anything?", I asked.
"I'm sure. I'll eat once I win that damned prize money, trust me!", he said and eased up to dig into his back pocket for his wallet. Kanna lifted a brow in surprise and stuck her hand out, laughing when Kohaku nudged it out of the way and pushed the money into my hand instead. "She's with me, tonight.", he said, winking.
"I see. I'll remember that, Tightwad!", she frowned, taking my arm as we walked to the bar.
"I can't wait to see him fuck up.", she laughed as we situated ourselves on a stool to await our orders. "How IS he?", she asked, reaching into a bowlful of roasted peanuts to dig out a few.
"He's… good.", I said, my eyes refusing to meet hers.
"C'mon Rin! He's totally fucked tonight, right? I am so going to enjoy this! Paybacks are hell!", she giggled, poking a shelled peanut toward my mouth. I accepted it and smiled as I chewed.
"Did you help him?", she asked.
"Yeah. A little.", I answered.
"Poor girl! I mean, Kohaku CAN dance, no doubt about that but his singing!", she chuckled, clutching at her tummy as she apparently thought about it even more. "He loves to sing, bless, but he CAN'T… it's just impossible!", she said.
"I know…", I just smiled.
"He'll enjoy himself, you better believe THAT. He loves stuff like this, you know? I'm just very surprised he didn't want to get pissed before he got up there! Probably because you're here with him. He knows he has to behave!", she said.
"Behave?", I frowned.
"No… I didn't mean anything by that, Rin. It's just that Kohaku is very conscious of how he acts around you. I find it rather sweet! If I didn't know better, I'd think he's got a bit of a crush on you!", she smiled, popping another peanut into her mouth.
"Oh no. No. That's not so. We're just very good friends, Kanna. You know Kohaku - he likes women, all women!", I said.
She laughed and shook her head as if she couldn't believe what I was saying. "Yeah, he's a girl lover for sure but he really likes you, Rin. Really. No joke here.", she said.
"I like him too.", I said because I did, very much.
Just as our orders were placed on the bar in front of us, the announcement came that the contest was ready to begin. With a giggle, both Kanna and I hurried back to the table, which just happened to be front row, center to the stage. Taking my seat, I noticed Kohaku was already gone, as the contestants were supposed to gather backstage before the first performance began.
As I dug into my burger, the announcer came out onstage to set things up and the first contestant was then called on to perform. There were to be five acts that night, with Kohaku performing last. I found I couldn't wait to see him get up on that stage and strut his stuff. Regardless of what anyone else thought, Kohaku always enjoyed himself and tonight, I just knew he was going to be in his element.
We sat through two pretty good acts, one horrible one, one mediocre one and then it was time for Kohaku. Everybody at the table was chanting his name and clapping their hands. I'd joined in as soon as everybody else had, laughing and cheering right along with them.
When he came out onto the stage, I had to look twice. He'd changed, unbeknownst to me, into a pair of very tight black leather trousers and a silver button down shirt that he'd, of course, left unbuttoned nearly to his waist. He looked smashing and I flashed a look at Kanna, giggling when she raised a brow at me before throwing a wolf whistle Kohaku's way.
Spotting us in the crowd, he gave a little salute and then the pounding beat of his song began to sound. I was bouncing in the chair, clapping along as he started to bust into his groove on the stage.
"Damn, Rin! He looks great!", Souten shouted, taking her eyes away from him long enough to give me a thumbs up. Hell, I hadn't known he was going to deck himself out in such hella gear! He DID look great!
Even though he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, the song started out fantastic because he was rapping and getting the crowd involved. I laughed as he jumped off the stage and started walking thru the crowd, I laughed until he made his way directly over to our table and then I stopped, smile frozen on my face as he held out a hand to me and asked me to join him onstage.
"Oh no!", I said, shaking my head as the others around the table urged him on.
"Rin, Rin, Rin!", I heard all around me until Kohaku grasped my hand and pulled me to my feet, taking me toward the stage right along with him. When we reached it, he looked down at me, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Please?", he mouthed before putting his hands at my waist and lifting me up onto the platform where he jumped up to join my only seconds later. He held me against him, dancing just as we'd practiced for three entire days. And then it was as if something just clicked into place for me! I wrapped my arms around his neck and held on as he ground himself into me, rapping out the lyrics to perfection. When it got to the part where he sang…
"It's gettin' hot in here, so take off all your clothes…"
He leaned back from me, grinning as I took over the lyrics from there to sing right back at him…
"I am gettin' so hot, I wanna take my clothes off."
He then slid his hands to my shirt to loosen the knot I'd tied there and cheers went up around the room as we grooved against each other, his hands now low on my hips. With him singing thru the verse once more, I pushed my overshirt off and roped it around his neck, pulling him toward me as I grasped the arms of it, much to the approval of the crowd.
When we finished the dance, we were both panting lightly, a sheen of sweat covering us. I could feel Kohaku's arm around my waist as he took a bow, urging me along with him as we both grinned at each other.
It wasn't until I rose from the bow that my gaze lit upon a pair of very familiar and incredibly furious amber eyes. For standing slightly to the right of the stage and looking for all the world like the tiger I knew he was… was my Sesshomaru.
