Epilogue
Kagome walked out of the forest and into the village near Inuyasha forest, which she had the honor of naming Tokyo, as it was now being established and expanded after the events of Naraku's defeat.
After the funeral and memorial service, she had made several discoveries that had left her, and the lives of Souta and Grandpa, in serious limbo.
The first and most important discovery is that, with the jewel whole and purified again, the well had closed up. After a great deal of thought between her and Miroku, they had come to the general consensus that, with the events taking place between Kikyo, Inuyasha, and Naraku, that the well had opened to allow the shikon jewel to travel into the past with it's carekeeper, Kagome.
Until the defeat of Naraku, the demon lord who sought out the shikon jewel and corrupted it, the jewel would remain at least partially soiled. With his death, and the jewel now whole again and kept purified by Kagome, the reason for the well being opened in the first place had been accomplished, and so the well had closed. At least, that was the working theory for the moment.
Either way, it meant that Kagome, Souta, and Grandpa were now trapped in the Feudel era. And all three of them had differing opinions on what this meant for them and their future.
Grandpa, the old man was thrilled to be in the past era. Although he does miss the conviences of the modern era, he grew up in a Japan following the second world war where life was essentially in many ways as rough was it was back then in Feudal times.
Souta, on the other hand, misses his video games and the food, and has been taking his anger out on Kagome in the meantime, although he was beginning to cool off a little bit.
As for Kagome herself, well, she had mixed feelings. She missed her friends in the modern era and going to school, along with Souta the modern conviences, like the first aid and flashlights, and shampoo, perfume, etc.
But on the other hand, being the care-keeper of the shikon jewel, meant that she had a reason to stay here with the friends and comrades she had met over the past few years.
Talking about those friends....
Miroku's wind tunnel was sealed with the defeat of Naraku, and he and Sango initially moved back to the demonslayer's village to marry and start a family.
However, with Midoriko cavern nearby, they had been assaulted by demons more often than they would have liked, and so in the end decided to move back to Tokyo. That way, they would also be with Kagome and the others. The tajiya village was torn down, and a memorial erected for those who fought the evils of the world, including Inuyasha and Kikyo, along with Sango and Miroku's loved ones, and others besides.
The memorial that was formed there was in the form of a shrine, and would help people for many centuries to become.
Kagome had adopted Shippou as a son, and vowed to raise the kitsune as needed.
Kaede had taken a liking to Grandpa, and the two spent much time together.
Sesshomaru, to everyone's suprise, resigned as the lord of the Western lands. Handing off the duties to a distant family member of his, he had come to Tokyo instead, bringing Rin and Jaken along with him.
He spent a lot of his time with Kagome, although she was unsure of his motives.
Finally one day she had asked, and he had replied that he was merely looking out for her protection, since she was the carekeeper of the very dangerous shikon jewel.
After a while, he erected a castle, and proclaimed himself ruler of the Central Lands.
As news of their exploits and that creatures of all kinds were welcome, the population of the village, now city, had swelled.
Although confused by what her future would bring her, for the time being, Kagome was content.
Sesshomaru was the Lord of the Central Lands, and her protector. As the keeper of the Sacred Jewel, her duty for the time being known, she could only face each day one at a time, and be herself, knowing that others in time of need would be there for her.
The End.

A/N: I would like to take this opportunity to thank those that reviewed my story and offered advice as needed. Although lacking a beta (except for the first chapter, which was beta'd by my sister), your comments kept me going, and inspired me to finish my story. HAZ306, Madmiko, This_Mrs_Sesshomaru, demonlordlover, Cocoke5, and others, thank you very much for your kind words, critique, and comments as needed.
As for what's next, I have a few other stories that had been neglected as of late. Two stories in particular, "Pain Hate Suffering", and "Crescent Consequences" are within a few chapters of being finished, and I will get to those next, before beginning to work on the sequel to this story, featuring original villains, new allies, although there will be one character from another anime that some of you may know. :D Heh.
For now, ciao!
