Grudges

Chapter Twenty

Sango felt Miroku's hand land on her hip as they flew back, it caused her back to stiffen. The touch made her feel weird, she wasn't sure why. After all he was her husband, well on the other side of the well he had been. Were they even married in this time? Kagome had informed her that in this time there was files on such things. But she wasn't in any of those files anyways. She wasn't sure how she felt about him being here, she'd put him behind her.

They landed and waited for the others to show, she knew she'd have to talk to him. The last time she'd seen him he'd been naked in the arms of another woman. They still had to discuss that, what was going on now and what about her new feelings? Even if she denied it to Kagome, they were still there. She'd started having feelings for the rogue youkai when she'd nursed him. Now, they were still there and so was he.

As Kurama opened the door for everyone, Sango felt Miroku come up behind her and pull her against him. Anger filled her, her elbow came back slamming into his ribs. She hoped he hadn't forgotten what he'd done before she'd fallen through the well. If so he was about to be painfully reminded.

Everyone turned when the houshi grunted in pain and stumbled back. Kagome pointed at him from her position, "Serves you right."

"I see you are angry with me as well Kagome."

"Damn right, I'm glad to see you but it still doesn't excuse anything." Kagome didn't think Sango should forgive him. It would have been one thing, if Miroku had cheated with someone he loved or cared about. But he'd done it with someone he barely knew and she doubted he could even remember the girl's name.

Sango walked in behind Kurama, her eyes landed on his shoulders. They seemed stiff, as if he was angry. He'd seemed fine before they had headed to Kagome's, why would he be mad? Then she thought about it. There was more people in his house, they were invading him. "Sorry, tomorrow we will look for another place to stay."

Kurama heard her words and didn't say anything. Would it matter if her and her husband stayed somewhere else? It didn't change the fact that it made her unavailable, "No need, you two are here because Koenma has asked for your help. You three can decide on your sleep arrangements."

Hiei put Kagome down, if he was the fox he'd kick the man out. Better yet go throw his ass back through the well; that would solve everything. He didn't like the man's arrival, it would surely interfere with his own plans. Especially with the way the kit was now cuddled up against Kagome's chest. He wanted to rip the child out her arms.

"Kagome take the bedroom, Shippo and Kirara can go with you." Sango sighed, her eyes told the other girl she'd probably be joining her later. "Miroku can you follow me into the kitchen please." She hoped she could contain her temper, no need for everyone to hear them.

She got into the kitchen and waited for him to get in before turning on him. "I'm very glad to see you again and I have welcomed you despite how I feel. But I can't forget what I saw."

"Sango, she meant nothing..." He felt the fist connect with his jaw, the blow knocked him back. It didn't stop, she smacked him again, he stumbled into the chair knocking it over. "Sango, please let me explain."

"What excuse will you give me? You were drunk? I don't want to hear it, spare me. If you weren't such a lech, then the girl never would have tried anything. You instigated it by being yourself. If not her then it would have eventually happened with someone else."

"You're right, I'm sorry. Can you ever forgive me?" He walked over to her, he hadn't meant to hurt her.

She looked down at the floor, yes she could. "Yes but I don't think I can be with you anymore. If you truelly loved me then it wouldn't have happened. I know you care for me but I am not the one for you."

"Sango, lets discuss this. At least talk about it later when we aren't upset. No need to make rash decisions."

"I have thought about it, I'm glad that you are here. I don't want to be with you, not that way, not anymore. Now it is time for my confession." Guilt filled her as she thought about her feelings.

"Sango?"

"There was a reason I was attacked. After I left you I saved a thief, he was being attacked by the Lord's guards. I interfered and killed the guards. I took the youkai in, I nursed him back to health."

Miroku knew where it was going, he could see it in her eyes. So, he was going to lose her. True it was his fault mostly. "What else?"

"I have feelings for him, I know it happened over five centuries ago but for me it hasn't been that long. I'm sorry," She felt the tear slide down her face. She didn't stop him when he pulled her into his arms. She cried knowing that even though her husband had been returned to her, he was still lost to her.

"Shhh.." Miroku stroked her hair, it hurt knowing he had lost her. At the same time he was just glad to see her alive and well. Maybe if he'd been more of a devoted husband, she wouldn't have fallen for someone else. Whatever had caused it, it couldn't be undone. Sango wasn't one to speak lightly, she meant what she said. If she said she couldn't be with him anymore, she meant exactly that. He would try to live with that. As long as he didn't lose her completely, she was too special to him.

Someone cleared their throat, they turned to see Kagome standing in the doorway. "Sorry, just wanted to let Sango know that Hiei and Kurama will be back soon. So we should have some answers soon, we might want to go ahead and fill everyone in."

"Right," She smiled through her tears, she hugged him. "Glad you are here, we could use the help."

"Of course, now what is happening?"

Kurama and Hiei came back to an empty living room and a quiet house. They scanned the area, everyone seemed to be in the spare bedroom. Kurama walked through the dark apartment and into the hall. Surely they weren't all sleeping together.

"If he's touched her, I'll kill him." Hiei walked past the fox, then stopped. "Something is in here." His hand went to his katana and he looked around.

Kurama extended his senses, something was there. It was watching them, seeing what they would do. Suddenly the bedroom door flew open, Kagome grabbed his shirt yanking him.

"Get in quick." She pulled the fox in and closed it when she saw Hiei beside her. As soon as the door shut something started slamming into it. "That was close."

"What the hell is going on here?" Hiei turned to look around the room, the taijiya was sitting on the bed with the kit. The houshi was sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, chanting.

"We don't know, we were sitting in the living room talking. Then we suddenly felt an evil presence in there with us. So we came in here, whatever it is; it wants in badly. Miroku has been able to hold it off but we aren't sure how long it's going to work." Kagome glanced back at the houshi, he had sweat across his brow.

Kurama looked at the houshi sitting on the floor, seemed he was good for something. Then his eyes landed on Sango, her shirt was torn and there was some blood on her arm. He walked over to her, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, it's just a scratch." She blushed at the look of concern on his face.

"Let me see." He sat down beside her, moving the neko out of his way. He couldn't deny now that this was the woman from his past. Even the same companions were with her again. She rolled up the sleeve for him. "Let me get something to clean you up." He went into the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit.

Sango sat there as he tended to the small cut, she'd gotten it when the thing had attacked. It had caught them by suprise knocking her into the stand next to the couch. His hands worked tenderly, his fingers were very graceful. She wondered what else he'd be graceful at.

Kurama's hands stopped when he smelt her arousal, he lifted his eyes. She was staring at his hands with a blush on her face. To test if he was the cause of it, he ran his fingers lightly over her skin in a light caress. He heard her intake of breath and smelt her scent spike.

Kagome's voice broke the silence, "So what did you guys learn and what are we going to do?"

"We learned a good bit actually." Kurama answered her leaving his hand where it was. "Seems Sango was right, someone has this staff. We aren't sure who it is but it would appear he knows we are after him. It would also appear he holds some grudge against me as well."

"Do you have any idea who it is?"

"Sadly, no. I'm afraid I have made many enemies throughout my life. My family has been moved to a safe place. Explains the direct attack." He wrapped her arm up, trying to contain his own reaction. He was tempted to throw the houshi out into the hall.

"How do we get rid of it?" It was the only question Hiei had. He refused to be stuck in this room with everyone. "Can't you shoot the damn thing?"

"Maybe, I can try."

"Wait," Miroku stopped his chanting. "The evil presence is gone, I'm not sure if it simply left or is hiding. I don't sense it anymore. Nor does the ward."

"Keh, who wants to step out and find out?" Kagome asked. She wasn't suprised to see that Hiei stepped up, volunteering. He couldn't go out by himself, she snatched her bow up. "I'll go with you."

"Fine." He grunted when she ran into his back. He stepped out the room, the door was open in case they needed to run in quick. "Nothing is here, it's gone for now."
