2: The End or Another Beginning

(A/N: I gain no profits from this work other then the glow when people comment. I did not write the first chapter. Somebody else write the third chapter?)

______________

There was utter silence for a moment as Naraku fell to the combined force of Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru's blades. The fangs of their father spending the last of their magic to defeat the greatest threat to the world. As the body of their enemy fell between them, two pairs of golden eyes rose and met. The moonlight, full tonight, shed silver light on the battlefield. A silent wind picked up and rushed through the now silent grove of blooming sakura trees. The blood of their friends and their enemies stain the ground around them, but all the two can see is the black night, the white petals in the wind and each other.

The air is warm with spring and the night air is thick with the stench of battle. 'So different then our last meeting,' Inuyasha thinks to himself as he slowly straightens from his offensive crouch. A steady stream of blood from a wound over his chest forms a pool in the white petals at his feet. He knows whose blade it was that stopped the tentacle from ripping his heart out.

Sesshomaru breaks the contact of their eyes, to cast his gaze around the two at their fallen comrades. It had been a year and a half since they last met, since the snow covered black trees and turned the world black and white. It had been a random occurrence, he had convinced himself that it would never be repeated. His eyes land on the still, bloody form of Rin. The silly child lay over the fallen miko. He had seen it, known what was happening but had he intervened to save her it would have been Inu Yasha's body he would be staring at. A bloody puddle was all that remained of Jaken. The toad had been a coward up until the very end. Then he had proven himself by giving his life so that Rin could have a few more moments.

The icy golden gaze moved on, determined not to linger, lest they show some emotion. There lay the remains of the slayer, her demon cat companion also fallen trying to protect her broken body. There was no trace of the monk, other than the prayer beads that had fallen from his grip when the cursed tunnel in his palm began eating him. Wolf carcasses were scattered everywhere, every warrior Kogua had been able to muster, and in the midst of the wolves lay Kouga himself, his legs shredded by claws and fangs, and his heart ripped out.

No one else had come, no one else had believed InuYasha's summons to defeat Naraku, Sesshomaru hadn't even bothered to ask for help, he had know no one would come, to afraid or to greedy. A soft sound drew Sesshomaru's attention from the bodies back to Inu Yasha, who had finally finished his own survey of the battlefield. He stood with his head down, the grief obviously weighing on his heart already. Sesshomaru stepped over to him, minding the splashes of blood and reached to touch his chin, tipping Inu Yasha's head back so he could see his little brothers face.

So many things wanted to be said, the primitive urges that hadn't stirred since the last time Inu Yasha had been this close wanted to say so many things, it wanted to beg and plead for Inu Yasha to remain by his side always. In the end, Sesshomaru could only think of one thing he was willing to allow his beast to utter. "Come home Inu Yasha."

A bitter smile curved Inu Yasha's lips while tears trembled on the edge of his large expressive golden eyes. "Everything's over, I have nothing left." Sesshomaru's hand slid down, to the base of his neck and moved the edge of the cloth away from his brother's shoulder, revealing two punctures. Sesshomaru's fangs ached to taste the succulent skin again. Sesshomaru moved closer and lowered his mouth, his beast growling in approval as Inu Yasha tilted his head to the side, offering the bite mark for Sesshomaru's inspection.

The tip of his tongue tracing over the marks made Inu Yasha weak as his mind was filled with memories from that cold snowy day. His knees buckled and strong arms caught him, "No Inu Yasha. This is simply a new beginning." Sesshomaru smiled tightly to himself as he vanished in a swirl of white petals, carrying Inu Yasha's still form away to his castle to be healed and take his place at Sesshomaru's side.
