Presenting His Mate

He breaths in the night air. He had wanted to leave this village and his annoying half brother, but this would be the last time his mate would be around other human women for a while so he had given into her request to stay just for a few more days. This was convenient for him because this put off something that he would have to do once he got back to his territory. The mate presentation ritual. Although, calling it a ritual was insulting to actual ritual. Sesshomaru may act like he was a nobleman, but the ceremonies that came with being the alpha of the Inu dog demon clan gave him a headache. He'd rather be swinging his Bakusaiga in a death blow to a lesser demon. Although, the longer he was away from his home territory the better the chances were that some demon would try to kill the mate of a Tao-youkai. Tenseiga rattles slightly letting him know that Tetsusaiga's wielder was approaching him. Knowing that there was nothing much to do until Rin got back from her bath with the slayer and that resists, he would have to put up with his brother until better company presented itself...,although, his brother was preferred company over the idiot Jaken.
"Thought you would have taken Rin and hauled your ass out of my village by now."
"She wished to stay and this Sesshomaru saw no reason to deny her request."
"Really?" Inuyasha mock asks. Sesshomaru rolls his eyes.
"Believe what you want."
"You're not wanting to leave, why?"
"Do you think it's easy being alpha of an entire clan?"
"How the hell should I know?"
"Ask Koga, the weight of responsibility has finally fallen on his shoulders and he's got problems within his own clan. There aren't enough females in that clan so normal mate pairs can't be had. Every female has at least four males she must lay with."
"How the hell did that happen?!"
"Their male egos that rule their alpha has cost them. Their wish of not having a first born female pup along with Naraku almost destroy them totally has done that to them."
"So, what does that have to do with you hanging around my village?" Inuyasha asks getting frustrated at his brother's skirting of the issue at hand.
"The moment I return, I must head for the gathering place of our clan and begin the presentation ceremony. This Sesshomaru doesn't want to announce his mating to anyone, even if it is tradition."
"Did father?"
"No, but your mother couldn't just be whisked away to be presented in front of a bunch of dog demons. I wish not to have to do this with Rin, but we are the only two with our father's blood line, I'm alpha so it's up to me to continue the line."
"Feh, don't give a damn about half demons do they?"
"That's the other problem, there is a part of our clan that will only listen to those with our father's blood running through their veins. They are more like a sub-pack than anything else."
"Then don't do it."
"You think things are that simple? That damn flea taught you nothing." he says and walks off to follow the returning scent of his mate.

He lands on the large rock. He turns to his left to see the talk rock face. To the right he sees the flat grassland where the rest of the clan would land. He draws out first Tenseiga and finds the slot carved in the rock and embeds the bed. He then draws out Bakusaiga and repeats the process. He smirks to himself. His own sword took the place of that damn sword that wouldn't shut up. He was glad that the sword of hell was right where it belonged. Rin slides off his back and stands beside him.
"Cover your ears, Rin." he states and she does so. The loud barks that her mate make echo across the lands. It takes about five minutes for anything to happen, but when it it, Rin could see hundreds of balls of light in the sky and still hundreds more dog demons running across the ground as they all try to answer their alpha's call. Several dozen balls of light land and Rin could see that these dogs wore blood red armor. The apparent head male of this group kneels before Sesshomaru while the female approaches. Sesshomaru pulls Rin to stand in front of him. The female gets the message and greets Rin first by nuzzling her first before doing the same to Sesshomaru.
"Uh...?" she begins.
"They are the bloodhounds. Father's personal guard you could say. They are loyal almost to a fault and the females would enjoy to be my second, but you are the only female I shall take." he states. The last to land to Sesshomaru's surprise was his mother.
"You took this human as your mate!?" she begins.
"I have taken this human female as my mate!" he announces to the entire pack.
"You think you should continue to lead us when you want take a full demon as your mate?" his mother continues.
"If you allow your bitterness to continue to cloud your mind, then you can no longer be alpha female. Know your place, woman." Sesshomaru retorts.
"How dare you?" she growls showing more emotion than Sesshomaru had seen ever from her.
"Your mating of my father was political, and you can't stand that. He's dead now, so if you want to take up with him then go to the nether realm and have it out with him. I'm sure father would enjoy seeing you again." Sesshomaru replies.
"You!" she shouts pointing a finger at Rin, "You did this!" she was about to attack, but several female bloodhounds were on her quickly.
"Do not threaten my mate, mother. I don't have anymore connections to you, but I do not wish to fight you." he lets out.

"You stood up to your mother for me." Rin says curled up against her mate in their bed.
"Once a male takes a female, any influence their mother had over the male pup is gone. I will kill anyone that hurts you." he says and captures her lips. He was bound and determined to show everyone that a full demon pup could come from a human, no matter how many times they had to try. Besides, his hanyou pups would be far more civilized than his brother ever would be.
