Chapter 1
Hey guys! Back with chapter 1 of Silver Lining! Yay! I hope you liked the prologue, and remember to review!
Chapter 1
________________________________________________________________________
She didn’t know how long she had been lying there covered in blood, but by the time she had regained consciousness, the sun was up and shining in shafts of light through the treetops. ‘What happened,’ she wondered. ‘Why am I covered in blood… oh. Right. That.’
She tried stretching, but screamed when she saw her hands. She looked at her hair, scared out of her wits. ‘Oh god. No, please no. What’s going to happen to me?’ She ran, panicked, to the nearest body of water that she could find, not realizing that she was running much faster than she should have been able to.
When she got to the edge of the small, flat pond, she slowly leaned over, shaking, to see her face. Purple hair spilled over her shoulders and the tips floated ethereally on the surface of the pond. This time she managed to control her reaction, but barely. She let out a small gasp at the sight of her face. The angles of her face had gotten harsher, and her eyes had narrowed slightly, giving her a more frightening beauty. Her eyes were still blue, she noted with relief, but what stood out (and worried) her most were the dark markings on her face. She had thick silver lines along her upper lash line, and bright purple dots framing half of her right eye. There was a small purple moon under the outside edge of her left eye, just above a stripe of darker purple. Her lips had paled slightly, as had her face. She was beautiful, no doubt about it, but she was also obviously - and this was the part that worried her – youkai. She had no idea what species she was, but she was fairly sure that it wasn’t Inu youkai.
What scared her was the fact that youkai and miko were two opposing forces, and she might purify herself if she used her miko powers. The only reassuring thing so far was the fact that she hadn’t felt anything yet, and that she hadn’t died when she had been changed. ‘Even though I’m alive right now, doesn’t mean that if I use my powers I won’t purify myself,’ she thought. ‘I must go to Kaede and see what should be done.’
That said, Kagome ran as fast as she could in the direction of the village. What she didn’t know was that she had gotten herself totally lost. As she ran, she realized that she had no idea which direction to head in. As a human, she had a weaker sense of smell, and therefore was not relying on it to guide her, or to identify people. So using her newfound senses was out. She was too unsure of the consequences to use her miko abilities, so that option was also out. The only other way was to try and determine the direction she was headed by using the sun as a compass. The only problem? She was in the middle of a densely packed forest. She could only catch little rays of light through the trees.
‘Well, now that I have these new abilities, why not put them to good use?’ she thought to herself. She decided that the forest had to end somewhere, all she had to do was keep running long enough to get to one edge, then she could see what direction she needed to head to get back to Edo. So, she took off running. She ran for what seemed like forever. The light waned, and the day turned to night. She kept on moving forward until she couldn’t make her muscles carry her any further. She collapsed on the mossy, leaf-covered ground and slept. Her dreams were full of demons coming to steal her soul or her innocence. As soon as she awoke, she was up and running. This pattern went on for days and days, and she still hadn’t reached the edge of the forest. She was lost and confused. She didn’t know where she should go, or how to get there. Finally, on the twelfth day, she happened upon the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
In the middle of a huge clearing stood a palace that looked like it could fit Sesshomaru’s true form 5 times over, and then some. There were beautiful gardens, with a huge assortment of different flowers; some types that Kagome was sure didn’t come from Japan. She also noticed that the palace seemed to be almost deserted. There was nobody in the gardens, no soldier at the gate, and the gardens, although beautiful, seemed unkempt. Suddenly, she sensed something. It was a very powerful something, and both her youki and miko powers spiked in anticipation and fear. Her subconscious threw up a barrier, and her youki sent out a very clear message to stay away. It was obvious to whoever was approaching that she was a very powerful being, and could fend for herself in a fight.
When her barrier went up, she started, and prepared for the pain, but then realized that nothing was happening to her. Nothing at all. She was, if anything, feeling better than before. ‘Hn. Interesting. I guess that means I can use my miko powers.’ She thought, relieved.
“Miko.” The deep, masculine voice surprised her. “What business do you have at this Sesshomaru’s palace?”

So… I hope you liked it… cause I’m not quite sure of it yet… >.< I have this weird thing… I can see where it’s going to end up, and some key things that will happen along the way, but I have no idea how to connect those things. Oh well. We’ll just have to see how this one turns out.
I am so sorry at how short these chapters are, but until I get my “creative juices” flowing, I might be a bit awkward with my style and such. As I try to write as much as I can at one time (to make sure I don’t forget anything important) I will get better. Sadly, it’s already 1:40 am, and I have yet to complete my goal of 4 chapters + prologue… x.X
Please remember to review… if you think it’s crap now, imagine how bad it will be when you don’t give me any pointers.
