The Bleeding Girl
Chapter Two
The first thing she noticed was the pain in her chest, then the sound of men talking. She remained motionless not sure how close they were. "Let's go, she has been disposed of." The cold voice caused a chill to run up her spine. Several minutes passed before she decided to move for the first time. Her breath caught at the pain, tears rolled down to land on the ground.
Light suddenly surrounded her, then she was falling. The magic surrounded her, the lights filled her sight. Once again the ground appeared beneath her, disturbing her prone figure. 'I have to get up, I need to heal.'
Her hand wrapped around the blade embedded in her chest, why wasn't she dead? Her scream filled the air, echoing off the walls. The sound caused her to cringe as she pulled the metal out. It fell from her fingers, blood began to pour from the wound. Quickly her thoughts were on healing herself, closing the wound. Her head began to spin before she was done.
Was she home? The sky met her vision, depression set in. Where had she ended up this time? Should she stay in the well, hoping it would open up again to let her home? As long as she had the jewel it should work. Her hand went up to reach for the small orb, it was gone.
Her eyes scanned the bottom, she could feel it. Where had it landed? The broken chain still hung around her neck. Panic filled her when she couldn't spot it. Where had it gone? It had been there when that man had thrown the sword at her. It had to have fallen off and into the well with her.
The truth set in when she looked down to see where the cut in her shirt was. Where the jewel had been laying against her flesh. Had the force of his blade caused the jewel to become lodged in her? A faint glow began, as if to answer her question. She had just closed her wound around the jewel. Would the foreign object being imbedded inside her kill her? A wave of dizzines washed over her suddenly.
Where was she? Was the man still up there waiting for any sign of her still alive? She began to climb out leaving everything at the bottom. It would be best if she came back for it, after she found out where she was.
The woods were gone, only a few trees remained. She had gone further towards the future but how far? Not far enough, the shrine was nowhere in sight. Her pulse was pounding in her head, should she look around? How much blood had she lost? Her entire front was covered in it, she couldn't just sit here. Her legs buckled at the knees when she took her first step.
Her breakfast was threatening to come up and say hello as she started walking. Maybe she could find help somewhere. After several minutes of walking she found what looked to be a road. It was her best bet of finding help and answers.
Ten minutes passed before she heard the laughter, the soft sound of children. She couldn't see, her vision was spotted. Gasps were heard, what sounded like a little girl screaming. It was incoherent as her ears began to ring. Her legs finally gave out from under her, the ground broke her fall. A hand was touching her shoulder but she couldn't answer.
Yahiko sent the two girls to go fetch Kenshin, he touched her. She moaned but didn't wake up, how bad was she hurt? They had seen the blood covering her front before she fell. What had happened to her? He didn't see anyone else around, was she being followed? Had bandits happened upon the defenseless girl?
He wasn't sure if he should try to move her and carry her himself. She couldn't be much taller than him, the woman was tiny. Where the hell were they? The dojo wasn't that far away. He sat down next to her, reassuring her that he wouldn't leave her.
"There," The girls came running back with Kenshin in tow. Yahiko sighed in relief at seeing the man, maybe he'd know what to do with her.
"I think she'd hurt bad, there's blood all over her."
"We'll get her some help, that we will." Kenshin turned the girl over and frowned. There was blood covering her entire front. She didn't seem to be bleeding at the moment. He picked her up, she didn't wake from the move.
Megumi was waiting at the dojo when he arrived with the girl. She had him place the girl inside to be seen to then told to wait outside. Kaoru came in bringing some water to clean the blood. As they washed her, there was no sign of a wound. "That's strange, where did all the blood come from?"
Kaoru held up the shirt they'd removed from her, "Look at this." Her fingers went into the hole, "Looks like a sword went through here. "Think she was stabbed?"
"Then that would place it in her chest, I've checked there's nothing there. Besides a wound that close to her heart she'd be dead." Megumi grabbed the shirt from her, "Keep an eye on her for me." She walked out to ask them a few questions.
"Kenshin, you said they found her walking on the road. Take a look at this shirt and tell me what you think." She handed it to him, watched while he examined it.
"Looks like a sword or knife went through here, that it does. The blood seemed to flow down and to the side. I'd say she was laying down while she bled. How bad was the wound?"
"There wasn't one. She's pale, cold; almost all the signs for acute blood loss but I can't find a wound on her. That blood is still fresh, it hasn't even dried. No one can heal in a matter of minutes. Plus if she was wounded that close to her heart she should be dead, not walking down the street. Something isn't right, is it possible she wasn't alone?"
"I'll go with Yahiko and look near where we found her."
Megumi went back into the room, she'd wait and see what they found. She had no explanations to give, she'd just keep the girl alive.
Kagome frowned when she felt someone pressing something cold and damp against her face. Her mind raced upon hearing the unknown voices around her. Where the hell was she? She'd been walking down the road then nothing. Had she passed out and someone found her? Great that meant explaining how she ended up all bloody. A slight headache pounded behind her eyelids.
"She's waking up finally."
She slowly opened her eyes to find two faces peering down at her. Both female, they looked to be friendly enough. Atleast someone hostile hadn't come upon her. "Where am I?"
"Don't worry you are safe. Do you remember your name?"
"Kagome, my name is Higurashi Kagome." She went to sit up, the woman went to stop her. "I'm fine, a little thirsty."
Megumi gave her some water, "Do you remember what happened to you? You were found covered in blood but you weren't wounded."
"Keh," Kagome almost groaned, what now? How could she explain to them that she had healed herself. They'd probably burn her at the stake. Best to play dumb in this situation. "I don't remember, the last thing I remember is walking down the road." Which was the truth, she was just omiting a few facts.
"Very well, you might be suffering from memory loss. Nothing can be done about it, it will come back in time. Please lay down and get somemore rest. I'll bring you something to eat soon."
"Wait, this might sound strange but can you tell me what year it is." Kagome groaned this time and layed back down. She was over a century in the past still, how many more years had passed since that ass had stabbed her? Couldn't have been that many. As soon as she was able she was marching back to that damn well and it better let her go home. This was getting ridiculous, what the hell was it doing? Did it have a reason for it's malfunction? Or was it messing up for another reason?
Kagome woke up the next morning when the girl known as Kaoru came in with some food. She accepted it and thanked her. As long as these people didn't try to keep her here she was heading back to the well today. It shouldn't be too hard for her to find from here. After running around with Inuyasha for a few years, she pretty much knew her way around this area. "I'm feeling better, I'd like to leave."
"Are you sure you feel up to it?"
"I'm fine, I really need to get home." Kagome hoped they wouldn't ask too many questions. She didn't have any answers that she could give them. So far she'd only seen the two women but male voices were heard on occasion.
She was left alone again, talking was heard outside the door. Would she be able to just walk out? Well there was one way to find out. Someone had dressed her in a kimono, she hated these things with a passion. Better than walking out naked she assumed. The door slid open, she was confronted by Kaoru and two males. One was a little taller than herself with bright redhair and a scar on his face. The other was atleast six feet tall, a little bit of bangs in his face. One looked nice, the other looked like he could chew nails.
"Who attacked you girl?"
"Saitoh, we told you she couldn't remember anything. Don't talk to her like that." She turned to the still pale girl and smiled. Seemed she really meant to leave today. Kenshin went to ask Saitoh about any bodies being found in the area. He explained the situation, no one had turned up dead in the last week from a knife wound. Which left the question of whose blood it had been covering her.
"I don't remember anything, can I go now?" Kagome didn't like the way the man was looking at her. It was like he was trying to look into her soul. She felt like telling him he wouldn't be able to handle what he would find. If he tried to stop her, she'd find out real quick if she could purify a human.
"No, not until you tell us what we want to know. Whose blood was that on you?"
"Didn't you hear me? I said I can't remember, don't make me say it again. Now, I'm leaving. I haven't done anything wrong so you have no right to stop me." His hand landed on her arm, he was fast. Her anger got the best of her. She wanted nothing more than to go home and be with her family. Yet she was being teleported through time for some purpose. Now she had this jerk trying to stop her for whatever reason. "You have three seconds to get your hand off me or I'll permantly remove it."
Saitoh tightened his grip, was she threatening him? What did this mere slip of a girl think she could do to him? His eyes widened when she gently placed her hand over his. He screamed in pain when his hand suddenly felt like it was on fire. The arm was released as he yanked away from her.
Kagome panicked when the girl stumbled back from her, the redhead's hand went for the sword at his side. Not again, she wasn't going to be stabbed again. She began to run, the door leading outside by a tall man with a brown hair. She managed to knock him out of her way as she went past. Her senses told her what direction the well was in.
Curses came out her mouth, the damn kimono was hard to run in. It was pulled up past her knees as her bare feet covered the distance. Hopefully no one would follow her, just incase it didn't work. It took sometime to make it back to the wooden structure. She jumped in not thinking about it, her feet hit the bottom.
