Beautiful Letdown
Beautiful Letdown
He opened his eyes and found that he was in water. He looked around himself and saw nothing, but darkness. He seemed to be fine.
Where am I?
It dawned on him that he was alive, but still unconscious. The water seemed to echo the sound of his steady heartbeat. He checked his body and saw that he was unmarred. He touched his stomach, but even though it was completely healed it still burned like hell. He decided to swim to find out if he subconsciously knew where that girl was and where the hell he was at. As he swam, he began to see a small light amongst the darkness. The closer he moved, the bigger and brighter it became. Soon the light engulfed his vision and then he saw the face of the girl. He got closer and closer until he was finally able to feel everything around him: the soft padding of the bed roll beneath him, his naked upper body feeling the cloth of his blanket on top of him. Then finally he stopped moving, was flat on his back, could feel every stiff, ache, and pain, and it was dark again. He cracked his eyes open to see the shadow of someone looking down on him. Slowly he widened his eyes and the girl’s face from his dreams was looking down at him. He almost smiled, but then his vision cleared and the girl’s hair bled into black. Something was wrong here. His face fell and confusion was written all over him. He noticed there were no markings that decorated her face. He noted as well that even though this girl was totally different from the girl in his dreams, that they could be sisters because the one looking at him had the same colored eyes like his dream girl. Those two beautiful cobalt blue kind eyes were their likeness.... He cringed away almost jerking back in surprise.
“Who are you? Where am I?” he spat out rudely.
“That’s no way to treat the person who has been taking care of your ass,” she delicately spat back while checking his forehead for any fever. She didn’t feel any high temperature, so moved to a different task of cutting up meat and vegetables for the stew in preparation of dinner. He just laid there in silence for a while.
“Well, aren’t you going to answer my questions?” he asked.
“And don’t you think you can have a little bit of gratitude for the one looking after you?” she retorted.
“I don’t need any help from any damn humans. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Just look at you weak humans, not only are you one, but a female as well.” He wasn’t expecting a full blown laugh come from her. This served to piss him off. She came to his side with a bowl full of broth from the stew. She helped him sit up and gave him the bowl.
“This should help since you won’t be able to eat solid food for a while.”
He gently took the bowl so as not to spill it. As he sipped down the hot liquid, he quirked his eyebrow up at her showing his interest in the reason why she laughed.
“You have no clue do you? Humans might be physically weak, but who is taking care of whom? ... Who is weak and who is strong?” She taps his stomach and he winces. She gives him a smirk, “And who is the one badly injured?” He was so pissed that he shut his mouth grinding his teeth. She saw the reaction on his face, stood, and walked back to finishing her dinner.
“Get some rest, for you will need it.” He set his bowl aside and did what she suggested for his anger with her smart ass remarks had made him exhausted. Hopefully the next day would prove better.
